[Q] Are there any ways of getting a free Android developers account? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi is there any way to get a free developer's account for the Android Market? Or will someone be willing to let me use theirs or buy one for me in exchange for a favour? I am only 16 and my family have no credit cards, and I haven't seen an option for bank accounts on our bank. I have also tried to contact Google but they completely ignored my emails.
PS I'm only going to host free apps.
Thank you and as for favours, if anyone needs any Android hacks or general help for Android, PSP or PC I'll help them.
Cheers

Hey, I understand your trouble, but you don't need an android dev account to use/ create apps, just to publish them in the market. You can just download and install them straight to your phone.
There is no way I know of to get a free account.

Hey mate I cannot pay them the $25 dollars because I do not have a credit card and they do not accept the bank that I use, if I could pay in cash or a gift card I would do that in an instant.
I also want to publish apps to the Android Market for the world to see my work.

How about using friends credit card and pay him by cash

Another option is to use alternative markets where you don't have to pay in order to have a developer account.
I don't know in which it's necessary to pay or not, but some of them are:
apktor, aptoide, getjar, handango, onlyAndroid, slideMe, appoke...

Favor to ask re: Amazon App store

Hi all. Not asking for anything that is stealing....
I am a NC user in Canada.
As of yet the Amazon appstore is not available in Canada though I have it installed on my NC it won't let me download or purchase any content for geographical reasons.
I am sure this will change soon, but in the mean time I am missing out on some nice daily deals! For example swiftkey is available free today!
I am wondering if anyone would be able to pm me the apk they download for free from the appstore. I figure if I get it for free on the day it was offered free I am not taking anything away financially from them, I am only getting someone to act as my intermediary until the appstore can work for me.
Would anyone be able to?
Would greatly appreciate it!!!
I'm fairly 100% positive that Amazon is still giving money to the publisher for every 'free' app that's downloaded through their app store, so you are still taking something financially away from the publisher, even if not from Amazon. Past that, the code is still protected and not 'free' regardless of the initial cost to the user.
Possibly but fact is I am not asking for hacked app and currently it is free. being in Canada I just font have access. I font think I am asking much.
From 1.1 Nook Color with 1.1 ghz overclock
I don't think it would work anyway as the apk for the app wouldn't be tied to your Amazon account.

Also I think Amazon can tell you're in Canada. It's the same way Hulu and other video services can tell your not in America. Unless you use a proxy then you are sol.
I tried to install the apk on my phone. It installs but when you try to change the swiftkey settings it throws an error about not having the amazon app store installed and to install the app store to use.
Has anyone tried using a usa vpn for getting apps off amazon?

thats why i cant buy it but if i have the apk on a free app i want to see if it will work
The fact that.it doesn't cost the.person downloading it anything does not suddenly make it free and available for the downloader to distribute it as they see fit. The Amazon store is the distribution method the publisher has chosen this time, if they've (Amazon or the publisher) decided that Canada isn't a place they want to sell or allow Amazon to give the app away, that's their choice, and someone giving you the app is no different than someone giving you a paid version from the Market.

that is your opinion which is speculation it is more likely due to is sues that have nor yet been setup fact is if I drove 1 hour to south and got on few wifi there then I would have no problem.
Thanks for trying to be more of a problem than a solution.
I hope you never mess something up on your nook color as technically the stick image posted on xda wad nor felt released by Barnes and Noble dip you would be also doing something illegal.
There are cracked versions of this pretty program floating around but i wanted a legitimate version knowing it will only be a matter of time before the store goes live here and I will miss or on the offer.
Actually, it's not illegal to hack the NC. At least not in the US. They can void your warranty, but it's not illegal to hack it. What you are asking someone to do is illegal though.

I didn't say hacking nook was illegal. But using an .img file of the stock Rom to restore to stock is. B&N did not open source there OS version for release. That img file is not the same file as their update files. This is the whole OS to flash back to stock.
And while what I asked might have flirted in a grey area look around at what is available on xda that is normally pay software. I merely asked for a file being offered free on the day it was offered as such. If you have a problem with that make your own thread and don't [email protected] on mine.

I am afraid sideloading will not work too, as Appstore will need to authenticate your credentials first.
While Swiftkey is a great keyboard app for mobiles, I find Thumb Keyboard to work better for tablets.

Amazon Appstore Free Apps of the day

I may sound desperate, but I just wanted to suggest something:
Can someone who has access to the Amazon Appstore create a thread wherein he/she can upload and post the Free App of the Day .apk and update it everyday? Or at least post a link wherein we can download them apks, since they're free anyway?
It's just so sad for us located outside the US because we weren't blessed by such privilege. :'(
No offence intended, y'all, so please, no flaming. If you find my post offensive in any way, PM me and I'll remove it for you.
Thanks!
What you are proposing is against XDA forum rules, therefore it will never happen.
I don't believe it even works, does it? Isn't there some kind of DRM attached to the Amazon AppStore .apk files that makes sure it's attached to your Amazon account?

If you think its morally right to do that. Why not just find out what the app is, than use blapkmarket or 4shared to download it?

The point is... they are NOT FREE. They are paid apps that for a special deal, on that day only, is a free purchase via the Amazon Appstore (you can also access them from the Amazon website, but still need the Amazon appstore app to install them).
To link in any other method is to redistribute paid apps.
And it's already been posted that it's against XDA forum rules.
If the only thing stopping you from downloading what is most likely a $5 for free is a lack of Amazon account or not living in the United States, morally I see nothing wrong with that. But that's subjective, and if it's against the forum rules I suggest you just do as others said and find out what the app of the day is and go download the .apk online.
I suggest moving to the United States. It's not that bad here, promise.

So long as you don't lose your job and get sick, that is.
I much prefer the Leonard Cohen view of America ... "the cradle of the best and the worst".
For anyone who doesn't know how the "free app of the day" deal at amazon works from a developer standpoint:
Amazon will tabulate the sales and pay the developer 20% of the full list price of the app for each "free" transaction.
Essentially, Amazon buys each "free" app purchase from the developer at a reduced cost.
If you pirate the app or download it from anywhere besides Amazon, on the day it is offered, then you still burn the developer out of the money that rightfully belongs to them.
Amazon does this to drive traffic to their web site, and to score more money in advertising and hopefully repeat business. But this app is not free like other free apps - Amazon still pays the owner of that app for each person who downloads it.
Please do not do what you are suggesting. It doesn't seem like a big deal at first, but knowing this now you will see how wrong it is.
I don't find your post offensive, a lot of people probably do not know this.
Hopefully this can serve to make more people aware of how the process works with Amazon.

Hi guys I can use your help in a form of a little guidance in getting getting my payment stopped on an Android market app, it's called " Bakery Story " it's a free app for kids when the app is opened it tricks kids in buying gems of some sort, my 6 yr old daughter downloaded the game and I saw an email receipt from Google for $100 .Verizon said they can't do anything, bank said call Google, I tried contacting Google but a dead end. Any advice would be helpful. Thank you.

I would try contacting the developer and tell them your story nicely and say if you would like to resolve it. If the developer is a decent person, they should work something out with you. However, if they won't work with you, I would call your card company and have the charges reversed.
Thanks guys I tried both methods but no results no reply from dev and bank said because it was my debit not credit card if was credit card there would be third party involved which could be disputed, Google said they're not responsible for on app purchases.

Technically it is your fault. Not saying you shouldnt be able to get a refund but you should of kept an eye on your kid or thought her to be more careful. Granted she is only 6, but its never too early to start.
Anyways, look in the settings. Maybe you can prevent things like this in the future.

I remember that Apple had similar issues and they ultimately placed a setting in iOS to toggle 'In App' purchases On/Off. I would do some research on what happened there and see if it helps in your case. You can dispute charges on a debit card, as I had to do that one time. The other party will be given something like 30 days to respond to your debit card company. If they do not respond, then the charges will be removed from your debit card.
On a different note, perhaps it would be a good idea to use a pre-paid credit card that can be topped-off for making purchases from the Market. I may look into this myself.

Yeah I dont see how he can't dispute it because even though it's a debit card, i assume it has the visa/master card logo on it and thus is still backed by them for purchases you did not enter a pin for. Email or call visa/master card directly if your bank is giving you the runaround.

Now I have my AmEx linked and any issues are just a click away to fix.

I would call visa/mc as I mentioned and/or call your bank and threaten to get visa/mc involved since the bank is obviously ignoring rules set by visa/mc (probably because they stand to lose somehow over it).
That's why I use a credit union debit/check card and credit card.
Much more forgiving and easier to work with.
Technically, you're on the hook. You just need to find the right sympathetic ear.
The simple solution, for the future, is to go to your Google account and remove your credit card information. That way you can't buy an app or do an in-app transaction without knowingly putting in a credit card number.
It's inconvenient, I agree, but it's a lot safer.

Sorry, but why don't you buy apps? Because someone else's 6 year old child accidentally purchased some in-game items? I'm hoping you mean paid apps, because an Android device without apps would be pretty boring I would think. Although this same mistake can happen in a free app just as easily, if your not paying attention to what your doing, just blindly clicking on things, and accept charges two or more times. Still, not a very solid reason to stay away from apps I'm my eyes.

Reading around the internet it sounds like you are going to have to contact Google about the situation as it seems that in app purchases go through them not the developers.

[Q] NT use outside of US

does the registration process check on your location/IP address such that if you're outside the US, you're unable to register & eventually use the NT?
i read somewhere here that even on a rooted NT, you can't bypass the registration process w/ B&N to start using (& eventually rooting) it. i've been keeping tabs on these NT forums with plans of buying one for use outside of the US. (courtesy of the root exploit, of course).
TIA for any merciful god/s out there!
also, this might be a good thread for all general concerns on using the NT, rooted or otherwise, internationally
just like NC, it should have no problems.
so, you could easily register from anywhere in the world with no hassle?

yes, i've registered mine from Italy 2 days ago and no problems.
of course the services that works only in us will not work but... for the whole rest tablet is working sooooo good!
I heard from one of the B&N booksellers in person that you can register but you will not be able to purchase anything from B&N outside of US.
But the same B&N account can be used to register up to 5 devices. I am in US now and I will be gifting a NT to my niece in India registered with my account. So whatever I purchase here, she will be able to download and read there without any issue.

YOU ARE A SPAMMER - You're littering your pleas all over the place.
We understand your frustration that not able to use a device that you paid a lot of money for. But that doesn't deprive us of our right to enjoy a enjoyable forum experience.
Seriously, XDA does not have the most behaving forum - Lots of noob and useless posts and that. But your spams are on another level!
This is not a playground that you can come and shout around. Well, even at a playground I guess you have to behave yourself.
I will give you the benefit of doubt that you're new to this thing called Internet forums, maybe things are little bit different over there in India or the forums you used to be, but stop doing it or I'm sure the mods will ban your account very soon.
No one in his right sense of mind will give you, someone we don't know at all, his bn.com account with the credit card information. This is soooooo stupid to ask in the first place and so I believe you have no malicious purpose.
But we still won't.
PS To avoid us being labelled racists or discriminate against Indians, lots of us are *not* from the US nor Europe.

You don't even need a credit card to register your device. I registered mine without inputting my credit card information. You can register with B&N without a card, they just won't let you download anything from their app store. Load the Android market on instead and you'll have access to everything.
so everything is okay now, right?

Paying for an App which is Free

Hi
If I wanted to release an app on the Play Store for free but wanted the option that anyone can pay if they wanted to, how would I go about doing it? I dont want to have two apps, just one paid and one free.
Is it possible to have something similar to in app purchase but thats a way of thanking the dev? And does Google take a percentage from it? Or maybe PayPal link in the app?
Or any other methods?
You can use in-app billing to do what you need.
Google take 30% of your sales and as far as I am aware you are not allowed to link to paypal.
You can find a tutorial for in- app billing here or you can look through the official documentation here.
Good luck.

Lol. Why would anyone pay for something that is available for free? No matter how better the application is, if it is available for free than i am never going to pay for it no matter what. And when it comes to your question's answer no you can't do that, Google Play isn't offering any such option. Yes Google takes 30% of your sales and so does iTunes.

Fact is, some people will pay for something that is free.
Most of the ROM's, apps etc on xda are free. They are done by devs that enjoy what they do and enjoy helping others. People donate to them as a way of saying thank you.
Also, in the past I've put apps on Google Play that are completely free, with a donate version that is exactly the same. People have used the free version, then bought the donate version because they liked it. It's all down to the individual.
