[Q] USB KIT Prime needed! - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi there!
After being a long time lurker of this forum, I finally have made the decision to buy myself the prime!
While i was in the USA about 1 month ago, (I live in the UK) I bought a BC Asus Prime!
Works great, Wifi better and better with every update! No GPS!
After looking around i decided not to buy the dock just yet, but i am in need of the USB port..
Anyone know where either.... Ships to the UK, or if anyone has one to sell?!
Please be gentle with me as im new to the android scene, and new to this forum!
Quick replies are always helpful!!
Thanks in advance!

Just give eBay a try, that's where I found my USB Kit. They might be a bit overpriced, but thatstheonly place that actually has them.

Got mine from Microcenter in the States, not sure if they ship internationally?

You need the USB adapter for the TF101 (OG Transformer).
Amazon UK has a couple in stock:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-USB-Ex...1_5?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1329853825&sr=1-5
That price look on-par for what I have seen them selling for in the 'States.

Ive seen them in the states for like 17bucks i think, but as i come home without it i think i might have to but pay the 40 pounds for it!
Does it do what it says on the tin? plug and play usb port?
i need it for EXT drive and usb such as ps3 gamepad...
if so, it might be worth buying!
Thanks!

I have seen these for around $30 in the U.S. I believe there were some being sold at clearance prices for around $15 but those are long gone and as you probably know, it is hard to find these.
I have never used one of these USB adapters because I have the keyboard dock, however if they work like the keyboard dock, then yes you will get plug & play USB for stuff like external hard drives. I was able to connect my external hard drive to the Prime via the USB on the keyboard dock and it worked flawlessly.
As for game controllers, I don't have any experience with them so I don't know.

USB Dongle... where is it?

Anyone know when this will be released? Asus announced it months ago but I have yet to see anything.
Basically it's a small adapter that gives you a USB port without using the dock.
Vapor. Imaginary. Non-existent.
Some suggest ASUS refuses to sell it because it might put off dock sales.
In two weeks I will give up waiting.

Certainly, not with me.
We should all start emailing them. If the next tablet has the same connector, we're bound to see it soonernor later.

i've been waiting for this for ages too !
the lack of accessories is extremely poor - i hate being jealous of all the ipad2 accessories that are available. :-(

Get used to the lack of accessories. The biggest problem with Android is we will never have the variety of accessories that you can get with apple products because we don't have standard ports and locations on Android products even from the same manufacturer. This is my biggest gripe with Android.
For example, my Nexus One has a great car dock and desktop dock but guess what? You can only use it with the Nexus One and no other HTC phone. This seems to be the way for every Android product, only proprietary accessories that don't work with anything else.

Just wondering , but do docks and cases and stuff for the iphone and ipad work with previous/newer versions? I wasn't aware they did
According to ExcaliberPC, it should be released around 8/17.

Cases no, docks yes. Take a look at any generic iPad dock. Like this one:
http://www.brookstone.com/idesign-p...atId=L3_iPodDocks|L2_iPodMedia|L1_Electronics
...and look at the compatibility list.
I'm not trying to give apple credit for anything, I personally can't stand them. But, I do see why third parties aren't jumping to make android accessories, such as docks. You make one for apple, it is automatically compatible with a variety of product. You make one for android, you're making it for one device or you have to make multiple versions to accommodate multiple devices.

Realistically though, just about every android phone uses micro usb. It wouldn't be hard for someone to make a somewhat universal dock. Maybe we should start requesting it.

I completely agree. I really don't understand why there aren't micro usb docks out there. Make it just like the friggin apple one, but slap a micro usb on it instead.
....unfortunately wouldn't help us with out transformers. Damn proprietary connectors!
This is a big let down.
im not paying a $150 dock for a USB slot...
get your act together Asus. Want to compete with Apple?.. Then wake the F up.
Make your product more appealing to developers, buyers.
Samsung's adaptor is $20 right? And its been out i believe.
I second that, would it kill em to add one full or even a micro usb slot to the next model so people don't have to buy the dock! I guess that is the only real advantage of the Iconica over the TF, but the TF is still king in my book.
If micro then we could buy one of these, but I would prefer a full usb port though.

This may be a stupid question, but has anyone tried a male/female USB cable with the charging cable and a flash drive? It wouldn't surprise me if it worked. Wouldn't surprise me if it didn't either.

Using a female/female adapter works for some devices. There's a list around here somewhere of tested devices. The main factor is probably the device's power consumption, as with most portable devices that have host mode.

Didn't it occur to you that asus could have purposely delayed the manufacture/sale of the usb adapter in order to entice/force people to buy the keyboard dock?

I know the dock is a marketing ploy of ASUS " is just business " but they are acting like Apple now!
Yes, I too wish we could trasform..no pun..the micro sd slot into a usb port but I don't think they make an app/adapter for that

so, were there any tablets announced at CES with USB ports?

As in, real ones. full sized. maybe I missed it but... that's a pretty serious hindrance, in the end. functional connectivity is what's really setting Android apart from the iPad. I honestly think it's a major reason why Android tablets aren't really taking off. all the manufacturers are trying to mimic the iPad, including its limitations. they don't seem to realize they aren't supposed to be targeting people who want iPads; they're supposed to be targeting people who dont want them.
It's also a pretty serious problem given Android's new official ability to connect to game controllers thrrough USB. I know there's ana adapter for some tablet's, but lets face it, those are going no where. people dont like getting another extra adapter just to get basic things like that to work. this is after already using the cable to connect, and after getting the controller. that's 3 things to have just for people to play games well.
good luck with that sales pitch, OEMs.
wow. this is disappointing.
There are two which have been the most popular next to the kindle (which is a piece). the toshiba thrive has usb ports directly on the tablet, the transformer has them on the dock. Both also have a hdmi plug and micro SD, at least I think the new thrive does, I know the original did.
Both of those were pre CES though. Big CES announcement was the 250$ 7" quad core memo370t by asus. No USB on that though I'm pretty sure, most likely a micro SD.

Dock with USB OTG & Charging

Hi All,
I now have the Atrix with lapdock and it's really useful for travel in that I get a small lightweight system without having to lug a company issue laptop. I'd hoped to replace it with Note and a small hub to allow me to use my HDD to move files from say the HDD to my phone or to another USB drive in case I have to give another person files, etc.
Does anyone know if this is available for the Int'l Note?
Been looking but haven't seen much. I could buy a mini powered USB hub I guess but a dock would be nicer. AND if the hub had say 3 or 4 USB ports then I could plug mouse, kbd, hdd, and have one open port. BUT, that's so messy and half/ass looking. Plus I would have to prop up the Note to either type on screen or use a keyboard.
This is about as close as I can think of. http://www.spider-foot.com/battery-...ng-galaxy-note-n7000-i9220-i92h5e-p-1125.html
Im thinking about picking one up if I find that I have a need for a desk dock

You can get a OTG adapter cable for your GNote which allows you to upload and download files, picts, video, music etc to a thumb drive to and from the GNote. I got mine from Amazon for like $3.50 or so. It has a micro USB to hook up to the phone and a USB for the thumb drive. I have not seen much luck on using the cable with a HDD, and I have not tried.

And there is no difference between them physically. Both phones use a micro USB port in the same location and orientation. There is a US version, I dont know why it links the European model in my post tho.
I ordered one and it should be here next week I hope.

Any further info on this dock? Did it receive it yet and are you happy with it? I bought the official samsung dock that is compatible with the AT&T Note but I have a slim case on it so the Micro USB port didn't reach far enough! This one looks nice but it probably has the same issue with a thin case preventing a good contact with the micro USB port.

Want to use your tablet for keyboard/mouse for Webtop?

I recently have run into Droidmote. I have a good setup at home but wanted to use my Asus Transformer as the mouse and keyboard. Took me 2 weeks to really find something that worked. Not sure if anyone is interested but I thought this was a cool find. Definitely worth the $2. Just put this on your Photon (or other android device) https://market.android.com/details?id=org.videomap.droidmoteserver
Also posted one of my worst videos of my life posted on youtube lol, due to me being too excited. This is also the same dock I purchased for $29.99 btw

What is a good android box?

Hey,
I was thinking about an Android box thingy and there are many cheap options.
I would like to play around with some emulators (PPSSPP included) with a USB controller I have and watch some anime ^^ I'd also not like to spend in excess of ~$35 (max $45)
Any good cheap boxes that can do that? Preferably that support Lolipop since I love its UI.
I've seen ones with Amlogic S802,812 and 912 CPUs and RK3188 and 3368 CPUs.
Which one is decent? eBay links would be appreciated ^^ Thanks! (OpenGL ES3 support would also be nice.)
RK3188 drives my LighInTheBox mk809iv. It's got 2GB RAM, 8GB EMMC, a full sized USB 2 port, hdmi, microSDXC port, runs KitKat 4.4, comes with Kodi pre-installed. I rooted it with Kingoroot.com, so that I could run a vnc server on it. I remote control it with my phone which running the free Valence app, or sometimes I remote it with Screen Sharing on my Mac. It plays nicely, and I get decent enough Wifi speeds. It's run everything I have thrown at it. A quick search for mk809iv will bring up a whole lot of these devices, even some with 16gb EMMC. Some will arrive pre-rooted, others will not. Look for Realtek Wifi for best compatibility if you intend to flash it (which requires a PC). It is fun to play with, but looking back on the experience, I'd rather have had a small Android phone with MHL/hdmi-output, as it would have been much easier to set up if there was a screen on the device itself. Just a thought. Used Galaxy s3 handsets are getting cheap enough now, with the same functionality. Cheers!

Yep! Any suggestions regarding TV apps, websites with TV shows, forums for TV boxes and input devices? I don't really think the bundled remote would be something I'd wanna use. I've seen wireless small keyboards with trackpads, do you know anything about them?

The forum I use for my Android devices is usually XDA, right here.
I used a USB keyboard and a mouse to set mine up.
For the record, I rooted my MK809 IV, which has an rk3188 SOC running KitKat 4.4, with Kingo Root, to allow me to run a VNC server, because I use a free Android app called Valence on my phone as a wifi trackpad/mouse and use my phone's keyboard to type on the Android TV. Root allows me to use the free RemoDroid app to control my Android TV from my phone or tablets from anywhere in my house.
Kodi comes on mine, and it's a free app in the Play Store anyway. I tried to set it up last April, but it kept crashing. If you are into that sort of thing, it is a very capable media server for sure.
For playing local files, I think MX Player is the champion app.
I ultimately bought a Logitech k700 keyboard with built-in trackpad to use with mine - I purchased it refurbished on a Newegg special for fifteen dollars! I take that keyboard everywhere with me. I love it. I prefer to use an actual mouse, but since I bought the k700, I have not missed mice enough to actually plug one in. I like it because it is nearly full-sized, but still compact, and it comes already set up to use a single USB wireless dongle. Range has been great, and after almost a year I am still on the first set of batteries.
Just today I was looking into purchasing the remote that came with your TV box, so please, let me know if you like it.
I bought a Hubman USB 2.0 hub in case I need more ports. It seemed like a good idea to have it, but I have not actually plugged it into the Android stick yet. I'm sure it will support a mouse, keyboard & usb thumb-drive just fine.
I don't want to go too far off-topic, so if it's okay with you, I'll pm you a list of apps I use for video. Nothing seems to slow down my aging rk3188 quad. Your rk3368 octa-core is going to be fantastic! Would you please post a link to the auction? Even if the auction is closed, I'd love to take a look at the device. The price you paid is unbelieveable!
