Blank (black) Screen X10 mini Pro help? - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Hey, I'm trying to get a friend's x10 mini pro up and running again.
A few weeks ago she complained of a non working earpiece in calls (speakerphone worked) and the notification light not working. And then the whole thing just gave up on itself.
Managed to get it turn on by using an apple usb charger, but all I get is a blank black screen with the backlight on.
Used SEUS to see if I could get it to turn on by reinstalling 2.1 eclair but to no avail.
Are there any suggestions at all as to what I could do?
Anything would be appreciated.
Thanks,
phish

I don't really know to suggest. Try leaving it on charge, plugged into the mains, for a few hours. That might do something..

Left it charging for 8 hours and then some last night. No luck. That blank screen still being the only sign of life and slight vibrate.

I guess that's what i'll have to do. i'll poke around the insides myself beforehand because its out of warranty and I have free reign over what I can do to it regardless of whether it works in the end or not.
Thanks for your help/

+1 on this my girls phone just did like that.

Same exact issue...
My girlfriend's phone started to have the same exact issues, unresponsive screen, failure on the earphone, and display distortion. So I got her the new Mini Pro, and took the U20i...rooted, and placed a rom in it...so far so good. Then I decided to open the thing...see if there was something that could be repaired. So once I took it apart, which is not hard, just needs some patience, got to the flex. The darn thing was broken, but in a weird fashion, I mean, the right part of the flex itself broke, but not the left part. Anyways, I decided to move it, and voila, I finished damaging the flex. It starts, but stays blank. I have decided to take it to a repair center to check the price to repair. If not, then I will buy the pieces one by one, they come around at $55.

[Q] X10 Issue. Dieing then coming back to life...literally

Hello all,
I have been flashing a number of ROMs for a while now, and I decided to settle for EWJET ZeamEx V010ex temporarily as it is beautifully well rounded Stable aand has all the features working i.e. Camera, GPS...etc without FCs.
So I had been using EWJET for 2 weeks, when one day I picked it up to check my Whatsapp messages. It was really slow and laggy, which happens sometimes no biggie. Then it got slowwer and sllooowwer and super sluggish. (slow frame rate and you can see the vertical lines as the screen changes) And finally froze...Completely. Waited for a bit with no response then removed batt. Put batt back in, Nothing. plugged in, nothing. I was sad... very very sad as I have got so attached to this thing. With all these excellent Devs and their ROMs in development .
Anywhooo, now a few days later. (I had the battery out ever since it died) I put it back in and tried for the heck of it and guess what it Vibrated! the way it does when you turn it on. It was stuck in a boot loop though. Hit it with PC companion. back to 2.1 stock. flashed a couple of ROMS. Trip's froyo and Iris. was running fine!
BUT it happened a few times already where it dies like it did before with no response what so ever. I have to take out the batt for a lil over a few mins (hard reset). then it responds. Sometimes it goes all the way and loads fine and other it's just stuck in a boot loop and I have to either wipe everything and stock it. Mind you I'm not doing anything crazy on the phone. either texting, browsing..etc
Could it be the undervolting for the EWJET ROM? doesn't make sense but maybe. I did stock it a few times already though.
Sorry for the long post wanted to include as much info as could be helpful.
Any ideas? Any one?
I'm really not ready to give up this phone!
Thanks in advance!
just flash back to stock and exchange it for a new one with your warrenty

Yeah I want to do that but wont be able to for at least a couple of months as I am away from home. So was hoping I can remedy the problem temporarily. Maybe someone had similar issues.
As for getting the phone wet, Negative. It happened out of no where. I started working again n been using it perfectly. Today, it worked the whole day fine then at night I received a call. after I was done I hit end and it Froze there. power button would turn the screen on and off but nothing else. took out the batt and its been dead ever since. I'll check n see if any of my friends might have gotten it wet while using it though.
Anyone have similar issues?
Sounds like a faulty phone to me, when my phone turns itself off and doesn't want to turn on i take the battery out/in and this always solves the problem ._.
you could have a proximity sensor issue. if you get a chance to charge your battery, I recommend you take off your screen protector, sounds weird, but it might help

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually not using a screen protector. Never liked the feel of them.
It's dead now and not even responding to the charger.
Oh well, seems like I'll have to wait a couple of months to see if i can get it fixed/replaced. Dang guess I'm gonna pull my W850i from the darkness temporarily. Hahaha
Thanks for the help all.
it has a stock screen protector, look REALLY close at the corner! :-D use a razor or knife to take it off, TRUST me, you wont scratch it, it is COMPLETELY scratch resistant!

try wall charger, usb charger on computer, wall usb converter, and if all else fails, download flashtools, and in the'drivers' folder, there is 'Gordons Gate drivers' install that on your computer and the usb should work.

Nope, Still no response from phone.
I don't know about the screen protector though. I see it. but I don't feel comfortable removing it. And it seems like I wouldn't be able to put it back.

[Help] Sony Xperia U ST25i Bricked by Water Damage

Hi there i'm just posting here as my girlfriend got her Xperia U last month and up until last night everything was fine until she went to the toilet and it fell out her jacket pocket, down the toilet >.>
So she came waltzing out saying what happened, it was still working after it had been down the toilet but the touch buttons starting going, funny? If that's the right word? So I told her to remove the battery, and the sim but then I wanted to try and see if it worked, I place just the battery inside and booted it up and it would first vibrate, show the sony logo, proceed to the Xperia logo, and then the screen would go black and repeat the process (Bootloop). So I thought to place it in an airing cupboard or wrapped in tissue on a radiator just to see if anything happens, to help dry the inside out or something like that, but now the phone doesn't even turn on, and I plug the device into the USB charger or my laptop and nothing happens.
I've had it on charge 30-45 minutes and it's not booting, but whilst it was on charge I could see a faint pink/red led light to the right of the Sony logo at the top?
If you are reading and want to know, this hasn't been rooted or flashed in any way or form, I updated the device a couple weeks ago via Sony PC Companion to get the new software update Jellybean and this succeeded fine and improved the device performance.
Thanks for reading
You shouldn't have turned it on, there is a chance that it's permanently broken because of shorting.
You could try to open the phone up and get some 99,9% alcohol and then use a brush to get the parts which are affected cleaned.
Also next time if you get your phone waterdamaged you should put it in a bag of rice and then wait for about 2 days and see if it works. The rice removes the liquid inside the phone and it might work.
How in the world did you get an official jelly bean update for Xperia U? :|

If an electronic device drop in water, do not try to turn it on, remove battery as fast as you can.

I understand and I take your advice for future reference after researching I seen a post from someone relating to my model and that I should try using Sony's Update Service software, not the PC Companion. I followed on screen instructions and my device is now back up and running running on 4.0.4 (sorry if I called it jellybean I am clearly senseless). Everything is working perfectly fine apart from the wi-fi, there is a widget on the homescreen which allows you to turn off services like (data, sync, wi-fi, bluetooth etc etc.) and the wi-fi in the widget is turned on and looks as if it's scanning, when I go into the Settings, the on/off button for bluetooth is highlighted (allowing me to select it on/off) but above that is wi-fi, which is not highlighted, but when I select it, it then opens up and says 'turning on wi-fi' and just remains at that stage.
I kind of gather the water must of damaged the wi-fi component or I may be wrong, is there anything I can do?
Cheers.
The phone might break a while after the water because of corrosion, u should put it in rice or open it up and clean it.

Thanks for your advice it's really appreciated I think the best we can do is find out if we are covered as this is a contract phone, I'm just worried they might turn round and say 'Well it's your fault, you dropped it in the water.' lol, but we'll see eh?
Thanks again!

Touch screen problem

Hello everyone!
My sister accidentally detached the screen of my phone because she was taking it from me. After that, we take it to the repair center (a store only in a mall) and they said that the screen is unavailable for now. The repairman suggested to take out the battery from the phone until the screen is available to order. One day I tried to turn on the phone with its battery inserted to see if it still works without the screen, I thought of the phone was still working fine because it still vibrates when you powered it on and I immediately removed the battery after doing the testing. It almost took 2-3 weeks until the phone was repaired (the screen replacement has no warranty). Then we got home and played with my phone. Suddenly, the touch screen doesn't work, I have waited for a few second then it works again. It keeps happening like that and there are times that the screen completely doesn't respond to my touches until I reboot my phone. The apps that I were using that time are responding well only the touchscreen does not responds well.
I am using a custom ROM while my phone is being repaired.
So here's my question:
Will touchscreen problem exist or occur if you didn't turn it on or use it (powered off) for a few weeks?
The phone that I'm using is Xperia Mini Pro SK17I. I have also tried other custom ROMS like CM10 and CM10.1 but it just makes my touchscreen worse.

Hey there.
What a coincidence, I just went through this kind of problem. Sorry to tell you this, but the screen assembly you bought is defective and there's little you can do about it, save for flashing back to stock and hoping for the best.
I ruined my xmp's screen and had to get a replacement part. I was in a rush so I bought a new display from the first store I came across with. Result: the touch digitizer was deffective, pretty much useless on CM10.1. It worked for a few minutes, but then it stopped responding until the next reboot. Touch response was sloppy, and two-finger gestures were all messed up.
Flashing back to stock ICS helped a bit, but it was far from ideal. I had to cope with it until it finally drove me crazy and I threw it to the ground. The glass shattered, many pieces flew off from the phone. Saved enough money for another screen and I'm just fine with it. No problems even after doing exactly what you described.
Word of advice: get a new screen assembly, and flash back to stock while you're at it.
Would you tell us how much the good assembly costs? Just for reference.

I usually buy these from a local store for about $40. Check the display and touch digitizer quality before buying when possible. If you plan on buying one online, don't go for the cheapest alternative you can find, you could end up regretting it.
I'd recommend buying from "formymobile.co.uk"
Some people might not know this, but the display and touch glass on the xmp cannot be separated. This is good and bad at the same time.

I am now dissappointed with myself because I didn't take my phone for repair to the store where I bought my phone. I have already brought my phone there before because of screen replacement too and they replace it with a good and functional one then that store move its location that was far away from us and that takes us to bring the phone in the nearest mall here in our place.
We found a store inside the mall, they fix it and TA-DAAAAA, a phone with a defective screen. And yes, the gestures are not working properly. I really love this phone but I can't take it anymore for another repair.
I am planning to buy a new phone but not a Sony Ericsson phone. I will buy a local branded phone [Cherry Mobile (Android phone) - search it on Google to see it] here in our country (Philippines). It is much cheaper but has a good quality. I am just a student so it will took me a long time to buy a new phone.
Unless my parents decides the buy me a phone because they also use my phone for playing.

I droped my DNA about 1 month ago and the screen cracked, luckily the digitizer was fine but the glass was cracked bad. Then a week later I guess I was to "rough" with my DNA and I screwed up the digitizer. Al I could see was a black screen with some green and purple lines going on it. So I needed to get it replaced, it would cost me around $150. Everything was working, even the screen, I could still feel the vibrations of me trying to put in my passcode, in other words, it could still recognize me puting in touch inputs but I could couldn't see what I was touching. I put in my head phones to listen to music, and it was fine, the sound was clear and everything. 2 weeks later I go to the repair shop to get it fixed, they put on a new screen and it looks brand new. I get home and I notice the side of the screen is messed up because when I try and press the q button on the keyboard it types the lettet w. So as hard as I try to type the letter q, it won't work. Sadly, I didn't test out my earpiece or the headphone jack. Now I take it back and they order a new LCD and digitizer. I come back in a couple of days so they can put it on the screen works fine. The next day I try to call one of my friends but I notice there was a problem. When I call the screen goes as normal, but when I take the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't come back on. No matter how hard I tried to get it back on, it would get back on. Worst, the earpiece didn't work. I couldn't hear anyone in a call, they could here me but I couldn't here them. I take it back to the repair place, they order like 10 earpieces but it didn't fix the issue. Now they are saying that the problem is my motherboard. So at this point, the only things that don't work are the proximity sensor, the camera because I get an error (cannot connect to camera error), the earpiece, and the headphone jack because its all staticy when I try to watch youtube videos. Yes I have tried many many headphones but the problem keeps persisting. I forgot to mention that my doubletap2wake doesn't work or my sweep2wake. A couple of days later the guy who owns the shop says the problem is the motherboard. I try to get my money back but I had no luck. What do guys have to say? I came in for one problem to get fixed, then I get another. Worst of all my phone just shuts off at like 50%. I can't restart it or anything, I have to connect it to a charger in order to turn it on? What do you guys have to say? They said that when you open up the phone, the pins that holding things in place break off and people get these issues. Sorry for this being so long.

Sounds like they messed it up bad when they put it back together. What repair service did you use. It might not even be worth bothering with the phone anymore it sounds like they messed it up when they were in there fixing it. Make them fix the entire thing or make them get you a new phone. Judging by how many problems are present you may as well just get a new phone.
Please press the thanks button if I have helped you in anyway.

Nope, warranty expired a couple of months ago. The weird thing is, my friend stepped on my phone at school, then when I turned it over, it wasn't cracked and what is more bazzar, everything was working fine, the dt2w, the s2w, the earpiece, the proximity sensor, the camera. Then an hour later, those things were back to not working again.

Here is what I would do in this situation. Sell this phone as a phone that is not working and can be used for parts on eBay. Then with whatever money you can get try and buy a new phone.

[Q] Xperia Mini Pro (Sk17i) hw keyboard - screen issue

Hello!
The problem appeared suddenly. I had been using Ultimate HD ROM for over a year with no problems. Few days ago when sliding out the keyboard, the screen went blank. Backlight was on, keylights were on. Typing on that small phone without HW keyboard is absolute rubbish.
Some moment, it just got into bootloop after it crashed while I stopped bluetooth tethering. Flashed the phone with Flashtool, with .587 stock firmware. Issue remained. Opened PC Companion and proceeded to "repair phone". It installed .587 stock firmware again (i guess it's that factory restore thingy). Result? Nothing!
Rooted the phone, installed recovery and Revolution HD ROM. Nothing. Tried to install that "keyboard zip file" while in recovery. Install succeeded, but the problem still remained!
Here is the video of phone and the issue itself:

Is it a firmware issue or hardware? What could be done?
Regards,
kaktebja
From your description it seems like the flex ribbon acting up. Swap with a new flex and you're good to go

Thanks for your reply!
I used a plastic card to put some pressure on that flex. Nothing happened. If flex ribbon would be damaged, why does the screen work in "closed" form? Or it's just matter of time when the whole screen will stop functioning?
eBay shows price 10£ for the flex, with shipping. I would like to be sure it's the flex ribbon thats's causing the issues. As it seems to me, replacing the flex isn't really a nice job either.

Yes it's just a matter of time until the whole phone(yes, phone) stop functioning. I had the same symptom, it was working for a few weeks then bam. I tried to reboot but it doesn't boot, not even recovery. Ordered a new flex (~$15, free shipping), replace the old one, then it comes back to life.
Your mileage may vary, but it should be similar. Look the other thread, they already discussed this there

Okay, now I at least know it is matter of time when it dies. Phone itself is 2.5 years old and been constantly used. So I guess it's no wonder that the flex is worn out.
Is there any point trying to change the flex cable on my own? By seeing Youtube tutorials about disassembly, it seems there's too much hassle and it might be better to order whole frame with flex already. I am concerned about the transportation also. If the flex is already installed to frame, then it might actually work.
Or it would be easier to drop it to nearest service center?

If you have trusted place I think it's better to drop to nearest service center. It took myself(inexperienced) a few hours to separate the screen assembly........ AND the proximity sensor is broken. Flex ribbon got no warranty from the place I bought it [emoji23]
The flex ribbon consists of front cam, notification LED, proximity and light sensor.
Test them right away before leaving service center to claim for warranty.

Thank you!
I will probably drop it to nearest service center. I will not try to change the flex on my own. Too much hassle with glue.
Thanks for pointing out critical spots in changing the flex.
I guess the topic can be marked, as solved. Will use the phone till it dies and then going to drop it to nearest service center.
