All depends if they detect you tethering.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

I don't know if this is what the OP was asking but I was also curious as to whether the wi-fi tethering was the same in cm9 as it was in cm7?

i'd say use cautiously. they can track the IP, and they may send you a nasty gram. if they do, stop doing it.

Also, keep in mind that AT&T is now throttling your unlimited connection so it may not do you a whole lot of good to do this..

Based on usage? They aren't throttling my data. This is only for small % of people.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium

The only people who are going to get throttled are the people who are using crazy amounts of data... like gigabytes on top of gigabytes. My friend works for att and told me they only screen users who are going above 10 gigabytes a month. At least for now...

verizon data limit?

I have read that there is a 5gb limit, even with the 'unlimited' plan. is it true, or do we have an unlimited plan?
Its unlimited....I asked a VZWireless Rep about a month ago.

5GB isn't a cap, it's the point of bandwidth degradation for excessive users.

Just don't torrent through tethering and you should be fine. I never use 5GB and I use Pandora and streaming sometimes, and I even have downloaded I think a 100-500MB file before.

Wow. I'd make sure you have a tethering plan.
there is a 5gb limit. I went over and was charged for every kb or mb. When I talked to the tech they said u can pay for an extra 5gb to make it 10.. so unless they changed it I would not go over.. google it and u will find the full detailed info about that unlimited = the 5gm cap
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Verizon wireless website states in the fine print a 5gb limit. They have a calculator to estimate how much usage you can get out of 5gb depending on what you your data for.
Sent from my CELB ERIS using XDA App
Show me this fine print..I blatantly asked the rep if there is an imposed monthly limit on data and he answered no. Their external hardware tethering (USB dongle) solution has a 5 gigabyte per month limit or if you tether your smart phone...ie a BlackBerry.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
Upon checking VZW again, you are correct, the fine print is under mobile data via aircards and BB tether. I guess they don't expect anyone to exceed 5gb on a phone alone. I wouldn't be suprized if they raised an eyebrow on smartphone data usage that high though. It's the golden rule; the one's with the gold get to make the rules

I called Verizon today and they said the "Data Plan" for the phone itself is unlimited, but for Tethering it would be $2/mb!! Is that because they assume we use some sort of Verizon approved app for tethering? How would they know the difference? I want to tether, but Im afraid to get charged a radical amount. I use "Wireless Tether", So it uses the actual data plan.

Only if you were to use a Verizon licensed app would you incur tethering fees....wifi tether is fine to use in my experience. It is not impossible for Verizon to monitor your traffic...be aware there is always a possibility of incurring tethering fees..even if the likelyhood is small.

3g slow and tether both slow..

I have noticed recently in the past 2 days my 3g on phone is running much slower. I notice when I try to load a youtube video on my phone it take forever to load. Also, when im tethering to my laptop it too is slow.
This just started recently so I'm curious is it just a network problem or are you guys aware of something going on my phone.
I am currently running:
Bionyx 1.2 with the Ka5

[APP] T-Mobile WiFi Calling for JPK 2.2.1

After many hours of trying to get this working, I think I've finally succeeded.
Please test that both Wifi Calls and Normal Calls are working properly and that Wifi Calling doesn't force close.
Flash this with CWM. This was tested on BiWinning 3.0

I read an forum somewhere where people were calling tmobile and having added to their plan and so long as you have it added "officially" then minutes weren't debited from their plan. people with grandfathered plans won't be able to do this without losing their grandfathered plans. People were having better success adding this feature online with a live chat from tmobile, as some representatives had no idea what people were talking about while others added it with no problems. I guess it matters which rep your get. But there were many people conforming that once the feature was added they confirmed no minutes being debited in "my accounts" etc.

The way Wifi Caling works is that it uses the internet to send and receive both calls and txt(not MMS). So in theory this should work the same no matter where you are in the world. Now there have been reports of it working successfully and other reports where it was not. So for you I would simply goto a free wifi cafe and turn on Wifi, attach to that free wifi and then turn on wifi calling. If it connects then send a txt to verify it is connected. If it goes through then you will have txt and calling as if you were standing in the US. in theory that is.

Sprint has the best value in wireless considering you'll get 7.5 hours for landline calling included from Mon-Fri 7 am to 7 pm, all mobile to mobile calls while on Sprint's Nationwide Network are free, all calling after 7 pm are free, all domestic text messaging as well as domestic data usage are unlimited and free. All this on the Motorola Photon 4G starts at $87.99 ($79.99 + $8.00 Total Equipment Protection) before any NVP discounts and applicable taxes. Remember, both at&t and Verizon Wireless cap data usage per month and charge per MB over the included GBs and T-Mobile throttles data speed to 2G speed until the next billing cycle once 5 GB of 3/4G usage is exceeded.

Hotspot Tether without root for unlimited Users

I am currently stuck on the update without root like many.. but the main reason I root is for tether for my unlimited account.. I downloaded and paid for foxfi (now also pdanet) and it obviously didn't work a few weeks back.. however a new update today and the wifi hotspot works.. creates a vpn to work, but I am currently on it now.. update says for the maxx hd and others doesn't list the dna but I can confirm it works.. maybe worth the 5 bucks to someone here. Just a heads up.. (created this account just for this thread, I usually only lurk)

Great news. Finally! I'll try it.

I have the DNA, and an unlimited plan. By default, when you try to tether up it will tell you to call your carrier to subscribe. You can do it, but you need to be rooted. If you are rooted then install the Android Wifi Tether app from here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
Once you run the app use the following settings:
Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup-Method: Auto
Enable "WiFi-driver reload"
Enable "Routing fix"
This should get you up and going.
But we're not rooted. This is "tether without root" discussion. If you're rooted, sure, you can use wifi tether no problem. The problem is to tether without root.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
If you get the latest wireless tether beta from Google there is an option for non root tether. I haven't been able to test it because I'm rooted but someone should try it.
