[Q] phone vs notification ringtone - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why are the two lists not the same? Can they be made the same?
As usual, if my attempt at searching was poorly done (I found only a recommendation for a download, no explanations) feel free to point me to an existing thread.

yeah u can

Apparently I should have been clearer: if it can be done, how do you do it?

sprry but I do not understand what you are trying to achieve. like, you want blahblah.ogg or whatever to be your ringtone and your incoming gmail/sms/notification at the same time?

Ringtones are stored in system/media/audio/ringtones
Notifications are stored in system/media/audio/notifications
Just copy the ones that you want to the location that you want and reboot. It should be able to be selected after it comes back up.
FYI- If you are adding new audio, make sure it has the correct permissions or else it will not show up in the list.

I'm assuming I need superuser rights to move them around.

That is correct. Root is required, with a file explorer, or you can make a zip file to flash.

You can also place them under
<sdcard>\ringtones or
<sdcard>\media\ringtones
I cant remember which, it supports like ogg/wav/mp4 or so, it's the standard way for android I believe

I keep forgetting about the media folder on the SD card.
Thanks for the update. It does makes sense to use the SD Card location so it doesn't get overwritten every time you flash a new ROM.

MiniCM7-2.1.4 no custom ringtones

Hi,
I just installed the custom rom MiniCM7-2.1.4.
When I want to change my ringtone I can only choose from a few that are basic.
In the first version (MiniCM7-2.1.1) I could browse in my folders to search for ringtone.
But I can't choose my own one that I have on my SD card.
I was able to in MiniCM7-2.1.1 but not with the new version.
How am I able to use my custom ringstones?
The steps I take are: Settings > Sound.
And in there I change my ringtone for incoming calls and text messages.
Thanks in advance.

I'll tell you what I did, it worked. Take any ring tone you want and copy it in phone/ system/ media/ ring tones. I used root explorer to paste it. If you had short space just delete rings you never use. I hope it also works for you
---------- Post added at 09:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:05 AM ----------
Sorry I realised I missed folder. The right path is to copy the ring tone you like from sd card using root explorer and paste it to phone/ system/ media/ audio/ ring tones. After that you can go to settings and voila your new ring is there to select it. Hope it works.
If you like, you can also prepare a ROM with more ringtones before installing it. Just unzip, add the ringtones you like to /system/media/audio/ringtones and zip again.
You can grab ringtones from any ROM zips just by unzipping and looking in the mentioned folder.
Here's a link to a post with stock ROMs in case you want some of the S-E original ringtones (or alarms, notifications etc that are other sub folders to audio):

I installed the root explorer on my mobile.
But when I try to paste it in there (/system/media/audio/ringtones).
I get a Warning: "Warning: You cannot paste here because the file system is read-only).
I can only press "OK".
And so can't paste it easly in there how can I be able to make it write able?
Thanks in advance

I rather not remake the .zip file and keep flashing it when I only want a new ringtone.
It should be easyer.
Still though thanks for your response
There's an option in Root Explorer to mount the file system R/W.

Wow quick response I love it!
Thanks again now I'm able to copy my music in there.
Although I see there are only .ogg files in it and it can't read .mp3 files.
Is there a easy way to make those .ogg files or is there a other way to be able to read the .mp3 files?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry man!! It was strange for me you couldn't set your mp3 ringtones so I tried to do what I did the first time again... because it was 2 weeks ago, and I made a mistake in my answer... sorry!! The thing is much more easier than changing format or pasting to phone...
follow the next instructions: open root explorer, go to your sd card, look for a folder called media, in media look for audio (it's like the system's audio one but in sd card), then go to ring tones and there you can paste everysong in mp3 you want without problem of space because they will be in your sd card. there is also a folder called notifications where you can put anything for messages, also in mp3... If you didn't find the folders I mentioned, just create them in the order I told you... sd/media/audio/ringtones, ok? and whatever you pasted in the phone now you can delete it because it occupy space you could need for other things...
I hope to help you now, and sorry for my initial mess... Now it must work you because I tested it before posting it here
Let me know if it worked for you

I thought the same as you... so I downloaded a program called Format Factory which convert your mp3 to ogg easily... However in ogg format it loses quality and I tried to paste a mp3 song anyway... For me it worked, I went so settings and I chose my mp3 song and now it's my ringtone... If it doesn't work for you try to convert it to ogg with the program I told you. You can find it in www.softonic.com

I'm glad to know your good news!! I thought I was wrong all the time but if you want to try my last advice I think it doesn't need to boot and obviously you have plenty of space to put much more songs in your sd than in your phone now you choose!!
Anyway I'm happy to be useful taking into account I was noob just 3 weeks ago

Well I can't choose if I want a song from my SD card or phone.
It needs to be in the specific folder on my phone though.
If you know a trick how to be able to get songs from my SD card, then I would love to know.
But atleast I don't have to make .ogg files.
I told you the trick before, but I repeat it again here... Basically it's similar to what you are doing in the phone directory but in the sd card... here you are
follow the next instructions: open root explorer, go to your sd card, look for a folder called media, in media look for audio (it's like the system's audio one but in sd card), then go to ring tones and there you can paste everysong in mp3 you want without problem of space because they will be in your sd card. there is also a folder called notifications where you can put anything for messages, also in mp3... If you didn't find the folders I mentioned, just create them in the order I told you... sd/media/audio/ringtones, ok? and whatever you pasted in the phone now you can delete it because it occupies space you could need for other things... it's simple!! I don't know how, but whatever you put in that folder you can choose it later in settings, sound... as if it were a ringtone placed in the phone!! must be magic of this pefect minicm rom!! if the song doesn't appear to you at the first time try reboot as you do when copying to phone... I hope it works and you can put a lot of songs without losing space in phone...

BTW AM USING nAa's MiniCM7-2.1.7 AND ITS QUITE FAST AND MOST STABLE.
Thanks a lot it worked just fine and now i can set message, and even email notifications to the full mp3 songs i have copied into the notifications folder.
Hope they find a way of letting us browse the sd card and set any music you like just like in the original SE KERNEL AND STOCK ROM.
Good to know it was useful for you!! It´s amazing how much we can enjoy our little minis taking into account the monster phones which are out there

[Q] Copy paste problem on stock ROM

Hi all,
I am having issues with copy and paste on my stock ROM. According to Clipper, nothing goes into the clipboard when I cut/copy text. I've tried this in S Memo, Gmail, Chrome, Messaging and Whatsapp, so it should be a system issue. Is anyone else having similar problems? Mine is running PDA: I9305ZHALI8. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance!
Not mine. I've tried copying text from webpage to search bar, and even copied some text from Gmail to Whatsapp.
But...does I9305ZHALI8 exist? Mine is ZHALI7.
Where's your S III LTE brought from? Mine is HK.
Edit: Seen the upgrade. I decide not to upgrade first.
Fix
I hade the same problem, but i found a salution.
First open upp any root explorer app.
data and look for the folder named clipboard.
delite that folder and boot your phone in to recovery mode.
then you fix permissions.
hoped i helped
ansonscleung: I just upgraded today hoping that the update would fix this copy paste issue, but unfortunately it does not. I was on I9305ZHALI7 for almost two weeks.
Curwer: Thanks for your fix! I was hoping I wouldn't have to root but if I may have to do so if it really gets on my nerves...
sry I dont know any other way to fix this, maybe factory reset will but i´m not 100% on that :/

[SUPPORT THREAD] JT Inverted Productions JB4.2 Aroma + Quickflash

This is the support thread for JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 Gapps+ mod. If you have questions, ask them here. Do not ask for help in the other thread.
Main thread for downloads:
[APPS]JT Inverted Productions JB 4.2 Gapps+ Aroma & Quickflash
How to flash:
1. Backup your current ROM, if needed
2. Perform a full wipe - format /system, /data, /cache, and /dalvik-cache
3. Flash your ROM
4. Flash the gapps package you want
5. Reboot
6. If you need to restore any data, DO NOT restore data to any inverted apps
How to post a question:
1. Did you perform a full wipe before having this problem?
- Yes. There is no other correct answer to this question. If you answered no, correct that first by backing up your device, then doing a full wipe. This means that you should wipe /system, /data, /cache, and dalvick-cache before you even think about continuing with your report. Do not restore data. If you don't fully wipe, you will not receive help. Doing a full wipe allows you to check to see if the problem is there without any of your modifications.
2. Which file are you having trouble with?
- Please make sure to type or copy/paste out the entire file name.
3. Which device are you using?
- HTC One X/Samsung Galaxy S3/Motorola RAZR
4. Which ROM are you using, and which UI type is it?
- Post a link to the ROM you're using and also mention the type of UI (AOSP/CM10/AOKP). List your kernel as well, if you don't use the ROM's built in kernel.
5. Which recovery version are you using?
- CWM/TWRP/4EXT
6. State your problem with as much detail as possible.
- We aren't standing over your shoulder watching you mess up your phone. Describe in great and excruciating detail what you did to arrive at your problem.
1. I'm going to post my question without doing a search.
Fine, but you'll just get made fun of, or infracted by one of the mods who use this mod. Searching is the first rule of XDA.http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=263
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Do I really have to do a full wipe?
No one is going to stand over your shoulder and make sure you do, but don't expect help if you don't.
3. Why doesn't the zip file flash properly/Why is the zip file password protected?
Too many people don't bother reading the directions, so the zips are now password protected. The password is located in the OP (post #1) of the main thread. You have to read to find it. It only changes on occasion, so keep using the same password until it stops working, then look for the new one. Make sure to read for the changes when you grab the new password. The flashable zip is always hidden inside the password protected zip.
For more information on the password system, please read this helpful post by KidCarter93.
4. My recovery freezes, gives me some other weird error, or the gapps package just didn't flash properly and force closes a lot.
You probably don't have enough /system space. You need around 160MB of free /system space for the full package.
5. Gmail (or some other app) is not inverted after flashing this.
You forgot about FAQ #3. Always do a full wipe. Make sure you don't have duplicate apps in /data/app/ and /system/app/. All AOSP-based ROMs should NOT include Google Apps. Some of them might, so you may need to do some manual house cleaning to get this to work. If your chef includes Google Apps in a CM, AOKP, or AOSP ROM, remind them that Google does not allow this.
6. People app is not inverted/Phone.apk is missing.
Either restore your backup, or reflash aroma and deselect the people app from the menu. Do not use the inverted people app, as this tells us that it is not working on your device. There is no fix, so don't ask.
7. MMS.apk is not inverted.
Theme it yourself. Open MMS app, then go to Settings > theme and set it however you like. The included themes from TUN_D will automatically invert them, however.
8. When using Quick Reply pop up, the message displayed is not always the actual message that I just got. Sometimes it is an older message.
That's an issue with the MMS.apk provided by the CM team. It happens when you do not reply to a message from within the quickreply pop up, but instead bypass it to reply within the app. To get around that, you can disable the pop up, but leave the quickreply option and simply tap the "Quick Reply option from the notification bar. This will trigger the pop up and allow you to reply each time to the correct message.
9. I have problems with ghost inputs, or the touch screen is buggy, in aroma.
Follow the instructions in this post by Wechy77.
10. I don't want this boot animation anymore, or it was installed by mistake.
Delete /data/local/bootanimation.zip if it's there, or, if it's not there, extract your original boot animation from your ROM's zip file at /system/media/bootanimation.zip and move it to the same location in your ROM.
11. Instagram has a problem connecting to Facebook.
Before flashing the inverted Instagram, download the latest Instagram from the market, and log in to give it permission to access your Facebook profile. After that, flash the inverted Instagram, and it will work like normal. An updated version of Instagram is being worked on.
12. I read this whole FAQ and my issue isn't addressed.
Make a post with the following information, and state your problem clearly and in excruciating detail.
1. Did you perform a full wipe before having this problem?
- Yes. There is no other correct answer to this question. If you answered no, correct that first by backing up your device, then doing a full wipe. This means that you should wipe /system, /data, /cache, and dalvick-cachebefore you even think about continuing with your report. If you don't fully wipe, you will not receive help.

- Please make sure to type or copy/paste out the entire file name.
3. Which device are you using?
- HTC One X/Samsung Galaxy S3/Motorola RAZR

- Post a link to the ROM you're using and also mention the type of UI (AOSP/CM10/AOKP). List your kernel as well, if you don't use the ROM's built in kernel.

- CWM/TWRP/4EXT

Is there a pool on how many posts before the first profoundly retarded question surfaces?
How do I make my phone black this looks way cool! I'm a super dark person and white is not my friend. Haha I kid l kid great job here guys!

Perhaps mine will be the first dumb question...
Here goes nothing - hope this isn't too dumb.
I see that the new download is jusTunbean_aroma.v4.0b.zip and what I downloaded yesterday was jusTunbean_aroma.v4.0.zip. I checked the changelog and didn't see an update. What's the difference between the 11/10 and the 11/11 version?
Thanks in advance. Let me know if this is a dumb question - don't want to flash for nothing, but also don't want to be one of those annoying noobs.

As far as I know, gallery and some other 4.2 stuff was removed due to errors. Also, CM file manager was changed. If 4.0 is working without any problems for you, then don't worry about updating to 4.0b. If you have issues, then update.
Aroma 4.0/Gapps 4.2a/b/c working with CM10 4.1.2 (i9000) , or not?
The new (4.2) cam/gallery and keyboard are working fine ... (other sources)
second the password was a goal on the wrong side my opinion, because the spamming goes on ...
thx for advanced

If someone has trouble with ghost inputs, and doesn't know, what to do, here is my little guidance:
There is a little work with it before you can make it work with touchscreen:
1. download "JusTunBean Aroma 4.x..."
2. download "update-binary" from here
3. copy "aroma-config" from JusTunBean.zip (It is in META-INF/com/google/android folder) Edit with notepad++ add calibrate("0.9718","4","1.0176","-9"); to first line. (This calibrate values are for Xperia ray)
If you use another phone and has trouble with ghost inputs then serach a rom in your phone thread with aroma install and find calibrate values.
It should look like this:
Code:
calibrate("0.9718","4","1.0176","-9");
### LICENSE:
#
(if you are on other phone, search for your calibrate numbers)
4. copy modded "aroma-config" and downloaded "update-binary" into the zip (META-INF/com/google/android folder) and overwrite old ones.
5. copy zip to sd card and go into cwm.
6. choose install zip from sd card, and it works with touchscreen.
Thats it.
p.s.: You must do it with every new release of course.

You can download in pc, and extract using password with 7zip or winzip or winrar. The Zarchiver is for that users mentioned, who wants download direct to phone. (I don't use Zarchiver, so i don't know, how it works)

Try to use Chrome -- it works.
This is a question about the theming:
I suppose this is to TUN, I don't use any of the custom themes, and I am on a Note using CM10:
when I am in Instagram, the words for "more comments" I assume is black on the black theme. I mean that when a person has more than 5-6 comments and you want to click it to see more.
Then the other thing I saw is in Facebook, when writing a message, I couldn't see what words were being typed, was just black on black.
Does anyone else see this?

[MOD]OGG Files For Sound Mods

Ok, I do not have much in means to make PayPal Donations, therefore i am going to try to contribute in some small way.
These are files found from ringtone websites and mp3's that i have converted for your enjoyment and customeizing.
Sorry i do not yet know how to make flashable .zip files to flash for convenience, but i will take requests(within reason), meaning i will do some searching, convert the audio files to .ogg, and place them in a zip file for you to unzip then place into the external sd card for use, i have a folder called System sounds on my external sd.
Please give me time as i can only do this Saturday night and some of Sundays.
Please hit thanks, and if you are in a generous mood, or i made a nice compilation you absolutely love, donations to fuel my wide eyed Monster Energy habit are appreciated!....Definately not expected. Any Developers that would like a my time for some sounds, please contact me as you guys are the ones that keep us all rolling custom!!!
I am unsure if you have to be rooted and unlocked for this...but i am.
I use root explorer as it is free and has everything you need to make these changes.
Once you have unzipped the .zip file, and placed the content in a folder on the root of your external sd card...
in root explorer (with Superuser access granted) go to /system/media/audio then you have four choices.
1. alarms
2.notifications
3.ringtones
4.ui
When working in these folders be sure to click the white box near the upper left that says Mount R/W.
in root explorer use parent folder to top screen(no more parent folder, scroll down to storage click on it, then extSdCard click open, find the folder of .ogg files you earlier placed onto your external sd now one at a time or in a group (Menu soft key, multi-select) use the move function.
use parent folder to get back to the begining of your files, again find system/media/audio then either into alarms, notifications, ringtones place the .ogg files you selected to move. after reboot the will appear in you system settings as choosable ringtone/notification/alarm options....Enjoy
Number 4 is slightly more tricky.
In the ui section if you want to use custom sounds you must first Mount R/W then go to file you would like to replace(ex. Power.ogg, PowerOff.ogg,Lock.ogg,Unlock.ogg) long press the item, hit rename. Then after the original file name( ex. Power.ogg) place the following
.bak (ex. Power.ogg.bak) this should create a backup of said item.
next longpress the selected item and choose Move
Use parent folder to the beginning, then find storage / extSdCard and paste to root of external sd. while in extSdCard fine the item you want to use to replace the ui file you just renamed. make sure you rename the file to the exact same name of the item you are replacing
EXAMPLE if using tranformer.ogg you need to rename transformer.ogg to Power.ogg
then use the move function, once again using parent folder to return to the beginning, then system/media/audio/ui , once in the ui folder paste the newly renamed Power.ogg . once you reboot your phone you should now have your custom sound associated with whichever ones you decide to replace.
I take no responsibility for what happens to your device, if you do not feel comfortable, please do not proceed. I am not a n00b when it comes to unlocking the potential of multiple devices, but i am a n00b when it comes to manually changing system files, but i found this to be an easy, very personal modification that is not too overwhealming for someone with a little skill, and the ability to research further than just my guide, before diving in and changing a bunch of system files.
I hope you all can get some enjoyment and personalization out of this and there are too many people that i do not yet know to thank.
I Personally Thank.. AdamOutler for his outstanding work, scrosler of Scott's Roms, beanstown 106 of JellyBeans, icedventimocha the themer, and TeamWin as they are the main threads and insperation since i joined XDA!!!! Much Props!!!!
Remember Changing Sytem Files Could Damage and Even BRICK Your Device.
So Learn, Learn Again. Then When Comfortable.....Enjoy!!!!
Remember to hit thanks if you found this helpful.
Another note, i noticed some roms have different ui settings, so for example in Cleanrom Ace 4.0.5 there is no Power.ogg you can change...but in JellyBeans Build 6 there is a Power.ogg.

Newly created files missing on PC.

Hi, so I am having this problem, any new file/folder created on my phone (such as downloads or save files) donot show up when I plug the phone into my laptop. There files ARE definitely there, but I can only access them on my phone. However on the desktop side, i dont see any new files, infact, I actually see the DELETED folders.
I'm using CM 10.1.3 with Googy Max Kernel 1.7.5

Nope. Checked it. Besides, if it really was hidden, I wouldnt see the already deleted files and folders as well.
I think the cache/database/whatever-its-called that keeps records of all the files and folders isnt being refreshed.
Oh, and Right Click and Refresh doesnt help.
Is it possible your file explorer and pc are looking at duplicate locations after a 4.2 flash??
Browse to /data/media/0 and advise of any anomalies

Nope, thats not the case. Every folder is where ii should be and no files/folders from pre-4.2 firmware are where they were. I moved them into the proper media/0 folder long ago.
This problem is a bit recent. And I am kinda starting to think if its the kernel's fault. Cause thats the only change I've made to my system in the last few weeks.
Also, any way to maually run the media scanner? via the terminal or smth? I googled around, didnt find much.
Media scanner only helps things show on the phone.
If you think its kernel, change back

Nope. I just did. Went from Googy Max 1.7.5 to 1.7.4a (HUGE sacrifice BTW), but the problem persists.
Here's what i've been doing to test it,
Plug phone in -> look at everything -> Unplug phone -> create a new folder -> plug phone in -> look for the new folder.
RESULT: the new folder doesnt exitst.
soo,,
Restart the phone -> Plug phone in -> finds new folder -> unplugs phone -> deletes new folder -> plugs phone back in -> new folder's still there.
So, its not the kernel, what could it be?
You've rebooted the computer?
