Problem with Nook Tablet... - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I went and made it so my NT was 1.4.0 and then blocked it using the OTA update provided by AdamOutlier(sp?) and the version number says 9.9.9 now. However, I installed the Go Launcher Ex. Unfortunately, I accidentally clicked the button 'keep as default' and then clicked the normal Nook Tablet home button. So now I can no longer get to the the GO Laucher. Is there a way to get it back? Unable to locate any setting that I can change it back to.

Absolutely. There's a great app in the Android Market called Default App Manager Lite. It's free and it allows you to clear default apps, including what your home button is sent to.
Here's a link to the app's market page; if you access it from your Nook's browser you should be able to open it in the Market:

Until ROM's are available, Here is how I set up my Nook Tablet

These are the steps I used to set up my Nook Tablet and get it set up the way I wanted it. I have tweaked it even more but this is how I got to where I am now. I hope this collection of links to information may help others be as happy with their Nooks as I am with mine.
I am happy to have access to the Amazon ecosystem including buying apps from their app store and watching Amazon's instant streaming video as well as the Google Market and B&N Store. All this with the ability to access Netflix's HD content, an MicroSD slot, beautiful screen, sufficient processor & RAM leads me to feel that this is the best tablet for the money on the market today.
I would like to also thank Indirect, anlog, Loglud, gojimi, romified, t-r-i-c-k, robertely, Brad Linder and all of the other developers and XDA members that have worked on Nook tweaks and/or shared information for the benefit of others.
Just to be clear, I am nobody, I haven't created or worked on anything. I just mined all of this information for my own benefit and I thought I would post a copy of what I have found in a single post for those that follow. All of the credit should go to the people who created the posts that I am linking to.

On an unrooted tablet (not sure if it makes a difference), I just downloaded the APK and ran it like the others. Installed and ran without issue.
Thanks for taking the time to put all this info in one place. Great help for a Nook noob like myself.

Does anybody have a link to the SWIPEPAD apk file by any chance? Unfortunately I am only side-loading, hence my problem getting it via the traditional market.
I really have tried to get this a number of ways, and in a number of locations, but have kind of hit a roadblock! What's ironic is that it would have been quicker for me to ROOT my device and load it via google, rather than waste the time I put into trying to side-load it LOL!!!

There is an app called AppManager which was used with the Nook Color which will put 3rd party apps on your default launcher home screen for the nook tablet without the use of a 3rd party launcher such as ADWlauncher for Go Launcher EX.
Download Nook Color App Manager from the Android Market. This will allow you to place 3rd party apps on the home screens.
or if you've installed apps and can't find them, hit the "n" key to bring up the menu bar and choose "search". Then start typing in the name of the app and it should come up, allowing you to start it that way.

is there another place we can get this, it is no longer available on the market.
I hate to revive an old thread. But I was reading through the NT how-to's and stuff and I came across the App Manager reference but it's not available on the market anymore. Is there another app or something we can do to get app shortcuts on the NT home screen?
A couple of seconds on Google gave me http://www.appszoom.com/android_applications/tools/nook-color-app-manager_ykey.html
It doesn't work on 1.4.3 though. 1.4.2 is fine.
That links back to the google play store that doesn't have it anymore. Anyone have the APK? The NT I have has 1.4.2 on it.

[HOW-TO] Install apps not showing up in Marketplace

Note: Root access is required in order for this to work.
Since I've found a workaround to install apps not showing up in the marketplace and haven't seen anyone address the issue other than rewriting system files, I thought I'd post this for people who (like me) don't know how to use the first method.
1) search for the app you want on Google in your browser, ie "xxx android"
2) click on the result leading to the Marketplace website (IMPORTANT: be sure to open the link with your browser and not the Market!)
3) click the "Install" button
4) you will be prompted to login, enter your info (you should only have to do this once)
5) this time, choose to open with Market when prompted
6) click the "Install" button and your app will download!
Hope this helps anyone

When I try this method, the search finds the program I'm looking for but as soon as I log in and open with "Market", not the browser, it replies with "Program not found". So I guess it doesn't work for me.
Thanks for the suggestion, anyway.

What app did you try? I can try the same one and see if it works for me. If it does, I'll try to see what went wrong.

It was iBird Pro. It cost money, but just try to get to the point to where it try's to confirm whether or not you really want to pay for it.
Thanks,
rodorr
Its not working for me either which leads me to believe its the app. Go ahead and try another free app just to see if the method even works.

Thanks a ton, less hunting for apks now
I checked Evernote, and Evernote shows up as downloadable for the Nook Tablet without using the work around.

Oh, well then... I feel stupid? Edit: I didn't see it when I tried searching for it in the Market app.
Just tried it with Google Maps and no dice.
Ok, I tried AVG Mobilation Anti-Virus Pro, and it came back with something like "Sorry but you can't download because you haven't paid for it" and then I got the good old "! Your device isn't compatible with this item".

I don't understand how this can work - if apps aren't showing up in the Market on your tablet, surely that's because Market thinks they're not compatible with your NT. And if that's the case, when you sign into your account in the browser, the same thing would happen of not letting you send the app to devices it doesn't think are compatible?
In browser, the Market doesn't even list my NT as one of my devices, even though I'm signed into the Market app on my NT. Any thoughts on this?
I've had this method work twice and fail a couple times. At step 5 when it opens up the market the app still shows as incompatible but it downloads it anyway.
Torrential91, can you give me an example of an app that this worked correctly for you?
rodorr
I just had it work for Real Racing 2 free version.
I tried it with facebook, but there was no download option, just a note saying it was not compatible with my device.
This method was successful in getting to the app page where i could not before.
I tried "Real Racing 2" and it did indeed work for me. It gave me the message "Your device isn't compatible with this item" but it went ahead and downloaded it anyway. So it does work with some items. Maybe it just doesn't work if there is a cost associated with the item.
rodorr
I know Google maps worked for me. I believe Tumblr also worked this way.
Seems like this method is hit or miss. Can't really say why =/ I'm not a dev in any way, just a guy that experiments with trial and error haha.
Maybe a dev can chime in on this?

[Q] Adding 3rd party apps to home / Android market

I mainly plan to use my NT as a reader, but I am interested in adding Kindle / Amazon App Store / Android Marketplace just to have the access. I've been successful except for 1 thing.
I'm not interested in a special launcher as 90% of my activity is going to be straight from the NT home page. What I'm wanting to do is put shortcuts to the third party apps on the stock NT home page. Before you say it, YES I've read the FAQ.
The FAQ directs me to get "Nook Color App Manager" from the Android Marketplace. 2 questions:
1 - Android market won't let me D/L anything. I login fine with my Google account info, but it tells me there are no Android phones associated with my login and refuses the download. I can see the app on the screen, but can't get it. How do I get around that since I don't have an Android phone??
2 - I've read that with the newer versions, the app manager isn't going to allow me to put shortcuts on my home screen anyway. Can someone confirm or deny if this functionality still works? I'm on rooted 1.4.0 by the way.
Thanks all!
~Vol

I believe clearing data & cache in the Market app will force your NT to re-associate with Android Market.
I believe that is one of your aims.
It didnt work. I'm logged into the Android market through the web browser and my gmail account. Is that right, or is there a standalone app for the NT? When i click the web d/l link on the app I want, a popup comes that says something to the effect of "there is no Android phone associated with this account. Please sign in with another account."
Does that make sense?

It would assist others in helping you if you would differentiate between using the NT or your PC. (Both platforms have browsers and can access a Google account.)
There is a stand alone app for your device "Android Market". I believe it comes in the gApps package when using Indirect's root method.

Depends on if you are using the "Market" app or a web browser.
OK. I think I got it now. I don't like having alot of extra "stuff" on my NT, so I only used the root script to do the root and declined everything else. i went back and let the Gapps install, and it seems to be working now. Sorry for not be clearer in my original question, but all is well now.
Thanks again!
@Vol4Ever
Glad you got it working!

Ok I figured out how to get it to work. Problem was downloading via wrong browser apparently when I was downloading i would always push the "n" button and select web. When I did the following though it worked perfectly fine. Though I will be updating to CM10 seeing as it has been confirmed I have a 16GB and not the 8GB I paid for
Step-by-step:
1) Press "n" button
2) Press "Home"
3) Press "ADW.Launcher"
4) Press the globe (browser) button on the launch pad on bottom of screen
5) Go to http://www.amazon.com/amazonappstoreapp
6) Bottom left corner notification tray will say "amazonappstore.apk Successfully downloaded) Select it
7) Choose Package Installer from the pop-up window
8) Press Install
9) Enjoy!!!

I think I'm going to give up on this one. I had to google what an app drawer is, then, once I found it, I still couldn't find the right security setting to allow me to download from unknown whatevers, and I have to figure out how to download google play after I get the Apk thing downloaded, so I can then download the app store. Ya'll are hella smart because I'm completely lost and so tired of googling everything under the sun, I'm over it, I even tried to read a crash report that was code ugh, so much for doing it on my own. Thanks for helping me out, though, I do appreciate it and kudos to those of you who can sideload and root your devices because that's a whole other ballgame!

It sounds to me like you haven't rooted your Tablet. You need to do that. When doing that Google apps (incuding Google Play store) will be installed. If NT Hidden settings isn't already installed by the root you can find it in the Play store.
I describe rooting under "B" in this post:
