Custom Rom and Red Pocket - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I know this may sound weird but i have issues sending and receiving mms and my data can be a little spotty since moving to Red Pocket. The sim card installs a sim toolkit, not sure what it installs but when clicking the app it wants to show your account balance. So i did a little experimenting, i returned my phone back to bone stock, wouldnt you know i can send mms without any issues. So next ill apply root and see what happens, then use titanium to remove the sim toolkit.
Just want some thoughts, rom? Kerenel? Aliens in my phone?
Having a brain fart, I believe some of the roms increase then size of the mms that can be sent, wondering if the file size is too large?

Ok so far i can only run stock rooted, unnmaed, and TASK650's ICS'd OUT allow me to send mms on a consistent basis What am i missing?

Prbly having to do something with the hellraised i9100/AOSP ROMs.

Would a bad sim cause this? I'm on Unnamed 1.3.2 without any issues. Thinking heading to the man (att) to get signed up.

No because ICS'd out is an i9100 base

I'm sure it has to do with tweaks made to the mms in these roms, something the redpocket network doesn't like. Might make a trip the att store to see what one of their plans will cost me.

Most likely it's the CSC or the APNs.

I use my i777 also with other carriers, and what i have found is that some roms don't read the APN's that the sim have. So i would suggest you to double check the APN values.
That Sim Toolkit is just a shortcut for service that your sim would have, in my case is check balance, horoscope, new promotions and some more services.

Yeah I found that different roms setup the apn differently. Right now I have the apn type set to internet+mms+supl, not sure if the supl has anything to do with it.
sent from my SGH-I777 w/Tapatalk

I have found on many ROMs if I try to send the MMS from the camera or gallery app they won't send. But, if I go into messages and attach from there they send fine. I'm on shostock currenty, on att. I've tried every variation possible for the apns. The only time I can send a MMS from the camera or gallery is on complete stock, or MIUI. I gave up trying to figure it out long ago.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)

That sucks, I'm on unnamed right now and have no issues sending mms from gallery or camera. But I also had no issues sending from Gophone or h2o wireless. Just since switching to red pocket.
sent from my SGH-I777 w/Tapatalk

I could send from the gallery and camera just fine on unnamed too ... until I flashed S8. Since then even if I go back to unnamed it doesn't work. I don't want to blame S8 for it, but I was not the only one that had it happen just like that. Check the posts in the S8 thread. It was kind of a big thing. There was a ton of posts of people that had MMS break after flashing S8, no matter what they tried or what other ROMs they flashed. While I don't blame S8, one thing is sure .... I'll never flash it again.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)

I'm no android programmer, rom guru,...but i just found something interesting. What i thought might be a rom issue may be a kernel issue, at least for me. I had been running unnamed with DD12/08/11 kernel, great kernel. I had tried siyah 2.6.11 with unnamed and had issues sending mms. I did my little experiment, installed shostock 1.9.3 last night, this comes with DD2/18a, i was able to send 1 mms then after that failed attempts. So i went back to the 12/8/11 DD kernel and shostock 1.9.3 and wouldn't you know i'm sending mms again. So for me what kernel im running effects whether or not im able to send mms. That seems really odd to me, or should it?

Best ROM for USA AT&T User?

Wow the selection of ROMs for my shiny new SG2 is amazing. I got mine from Expansys and was going to stick with the stock ROM but the constant switching from 3G to H+ was driving me nuts and I would lose data connectivity every few seconds. As a result I decided to give a custom rom a try. Right now I have the Cognition S2 rom installed and will test it out for a few days but I was wondering if some of you have already gone down this path and found a good/stable rom for AT&T. Most important to me is stability, battery life and reliable data/call connectivity.
Turn off fast dormancy *#9900# been with Cog for awhile and loving it.
There is no Best ROM, different stokes for different folks and all. You really should just test around and see what works best for you.

I guess I shouldn't have said "best" - what I really meant what - looking for some success reports from people running particular roms/modems with AT&T. More often than not reply posts are from users outside of the USA so I was finding it tough to gauge issues here in the states. Of course this is to be expected since none of our carriers are selling the phone yet.
Illicit Hero - thanks I did turn off fast dormancy based on the recommendation in the Cognition instructions.
im with fido, which is rogers which is AT&T and I cant say there are any problems with any of the roms. I am however using Criskelo at the moment without a single problem
ROMs are generally non region specific and the most you may have todo is put in the correct apn settings for Internet and mms, but there is a thread for at&t apn settings so you should be covered there.
As far as modems, just work your way though them till you find one that works well for you, your best bet is starting the with newest and working down till you find a good one.

^ what he said. There is no region specific roms. All roms work fine, just enter the apn if it doesn't register automatically.
I use leomar rom for stock, it has every possible customization and theme available thru rom kitchen app. And then there is cm 7 for pure android fun.

[Q] Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) 911 and Fixes/Roms

My girlfriend recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V). I enjoy all the features I get from rooting, etc on my G2. I saw the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile and have installed it for her. I wanted her to be able to have root, remove bloatware and have the lagfix (voodoo, assuming it is still needed) working. As I was getting ready to find her a good ROM this CM 911 dustup happened. It's ok if she keeps the Samsung ROM, my question is where is this 911 "feature" stored? In other words, what can be done to her phone without destroying emergancy calling? I am pretty sure just rooting it is fine. Removing bloatware after rooting should be good also. I believe the lagfix replaces the kernel. If the kernel gets replaced will that break 911 calls? Is anyone working on a stock GB ROM (as officially released Nov 15) that would have root, removed bloat, and anything else safe that keeps 911 working? I would be glad to wipe the phone, root, remove bloat, (lagfix?) myself and post. I just do not know what is safe to play with. Is this just a radio issue, library issue or kernel issue? Any information would be appriciated. I would like to make her android experiance a good one that still allows her to call 911. I have searched the forums and the web but can't seem to nail down a good answer of what can be changed and what must be left alone to allow 911 to work.
911 operators are drunks anyways... here's some proof, provided from a random Google search.
This is the vibrant forum,sgh-t959 not t959v... very different..
From my understanding, cm7 is the only one with the 911 problem (and any rom coming from cm7)
. Stick to samsung roms and your good. Also the 911 thing isnt the end of the world.. you call them, they cant hear you.. hang up and theyll call you back

Ah, since the download for the updater said "Vibrant" (offical from Samsung) and the model number is so close I assumed they were mostly the same. I see now there is a S 4G forum. Sorry for the mix up. I would assume this phone could have the same issues if CM was ported. Currently it is listed as not supported. I'll move to the right forum and dig some more. Sorry for the waste of space. If anyone knows if these are affected by the 911 issue feel free to chime in. Or if a moderator wants to move this to the othe forum feel free.
Thanks
Lol the waste of space is no big deal and your right, id forgotten that they call yours the vibrant 4g. But still the two phones are very different hardwarewise, idk why.

Sms coming in in batches

I hate asking questions but i havent read up on this problem..
So every night for who knows how long now my text will all come in at once.
Calls arent coming thru but other person can hear the ring over and over and it doesnt ring on my end.
Calls and text will come in after i make a phone call.
my text are recieved but i dont recieve anything..
Its not Att because a lot more people would experience this..
All i can think of is swapping modems and see how it goes..
any other ideas anyome might have??
TIA
What ROM are you on? Last night I had an issue with cm10 905 nightly and got 3 texts after midnight all at same time, 1 from my mom so I know they were likely from the afternoon.
Might have to try another ROM if it continues to be an issue. This was on cm10 905 with uclf6 modem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
There are two things that might be going on there. I have heard similar complaints associated with cm10 based roms, if that's the case reflash is probably the best option aside from trying different modems.
That is also a common carrier issue, i have worked for both rogers and bell, most carriers use the same crm, when a customer service rep adds or removes a feature (voicemail or a text package) or changes your overall price plan some times the system gets... backed up at the switch, not really sure how to properly explain that situation, but technical support is usually well aware of how to reset your account. Its a common problem which is not necessarily shared by everyone on the network.
Just something to think about.

It sounds like a network/carrier/weather problem, especially with others mentioning similar issues. If it doesn't clear up within a day, then its time to look at the phone.
Thank you all for the replies
I'm on CM10/LiquidSmooth ROM
CLF6 modem
Its happened on CM9 and stock ROMs as well
It happens more often after some one goes over the data limit or something else is charged to the bill....
It might be ATT after all.... just kinda bugged by it since it happens A LOT even with out any changes being made to the bill/data plan
I'll test out with different modems to see if problem persists if not then im done with ATT

I think the FL6 modem is pretty good. But its worth the time experimenting. After you flash, give it a little time to settle in.

[Q] My phone has started eating incoming texts across multiple ROMs, find the cause?

I was running SHOstock2 v5.4 for a while when I found out that I simply stopped receiving incoming texts. The weird part was that outgoing still worked fine, I just never saw new ones come in. Before realizing I could fix it via software, I had AT&T reactivate my phone, as well as replace the SIM card. In any case, I have been using SHOstock2 basically since it came out (RC3?) and this is the first time I've ever had a problem like this.
Thinking it might be a ROM glitch, I reflashed v5.4 over top, without a wipe. No dice.
Next was the kernel, I flashed Siyah v4.3.3 w/ MS. No dice.
I wiped and went back to AT&T's stock UCLE5 and got a bunch of texts. Hazah.
After that, I flashed back to v5.4, restored all my apps/data, and continued being able to text... but only for a day or so.
I wiped and went back to v5.2, which I'd used for a month or so before jumping to v5.4. I've been slowly restoring apps (sometimes with data, mostly without) as I need them.
Today, I went back to not being able to receive texts. The only thing I can think of that changed today was an update to ExTweaks, but I can't imagine that's related?
I guess the only thing I haven't messed with yet is the modem, which might make sense, but I don't know enough about those to start trying new ones. Moreover, I don't understand why it would work for a while and then bomb out. I see that SHOstock2 v6.0 is out now, so maybe I'll upgrade to that tonight and see if I have any better luck with that.
So, assuming it comes back, where do I look next? Is there any logging I should turn on, or logs I can check, or something? I can't tolerate having to reflash weekly, particularly knowing that it worked for a *long* time before.

There's gotta be some aspect about it that has to do with SHOstock2, though ... as soon as I go back to a stock ICS ROM, no issue. I did it again last night and then flashed to SHOstock2 v6.0. All good so far, no apps/data restored yet. v6.0 came with a lot more apps than v5.4, needs some de-bloat - might be from Google backup, though, since I had just come from a stock ROM.

I was using whatever came with v5.4, and v5.2 (separately). SHOstock2 v6.0 comes with baseband I777UCLD4.
edit: v5.4 was using UCLD4 as well. v5.2 might have been UCLE5? Hard to tell from the changelog.

Earlier in another thread it was said APN's have no effect on text, just mms.
But for other reasons, I tried to use that and other similar apn's on my Sii running Shostock 6.0. It only allows you to select 3 different "apn type" which aren't in the suggested post.

Thanks for the suggestion, but as moopile pointed out messing with your APN will only change MMS behavior. However, if the problem crops up again I may give it a try anyway. I'm on SHOstock2 v6.0 now, but I haven't run tibu to get any of my apps back yet...

Interesting.... Doesn't make sense but anything is possible.
I had this issue on Mystik's Rom as well. Actually was on aberration the first time it happened, Mystik's the second. Both times flashing an i777 based Rom fixed the issue. I had it set up to dual boot semi and aberration. Aberration was my daily driver, but when I stopped getting texts I would just boot into semi and they would come through. After the third time I just went to semi as my daily driver and haven't had any issues since. Don't know if it has to do with semi being based on an official AT&T release vs an international release. All I know is it works.

Happened to me today as well! I'm not getting several texts and some texts are coming with garbled giberish. It's definitely an ATT issue.

Mms messages create a separate group txt msg. Is this normal?

I'm running a rooted VZW Samsung Galaxy Note II on a T-Mobile network.
No Custom Roms being run.
Model: SCH-I605
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband Version: i605VRAMC3
As best as I can explain rhis. Normally on my previous phone even girlfriends siii. If you recieve a an mms message with an image etc it is all contained in one txt message thread. I even have examples if need be on this from my backed up older messages.
But on this phone anything new with an image mms message does not go to the default txt thread it makes an entirely new thread like its a group txt. Is this normal for this phone or is it nornal cause its basically global anyone else have this same issue even though maybe you never thought it was an issue?
Yes I can recieve mms. But its simply not working as expected or desired. See images.

Mine does because I have an international ROM.
When I had VZW TW, I had no such issue.
I'm wondering if it is something TMob blocked though, but I don't think so. My friend had an HTC and it had the same issue, but I never was able to resolve it and most people who asked on the Tmob forum had no clue what they were talking about.
I'd try reflashing to stock and see if that makes it any better.

Well see I think you hit the nail on the head.
You have the same thing cause you have an international rom.
Well basically when from what I've read because I am using a tmobile sim on a verizon phone, the phones treating it as a global or international phone. Which is perfectly fine if that's what it does.
And I think at this point you've helped me determine with at least a 75% probability that this is the issue I have.
Thanks for that.
Hopefully this will help others who see this and wonder as well. Cause it does appear to be normal considering my setup.
As for the rom I have I just rooted it. I have not installed any rom so it's still the VZW rom for america or whatever, I.E. it's stock just rooted.

Well see I think you hit the nail on the head.
You have the same thing cause you have an international rom.
Well basically when from what I've read because I am using a tmobile sim on a verizon phone, the phones treating it as a global or international phone. Which is perfectly fine if that's what it does.

Sorry I don't follow what you mean by international hub?
You just mean international should work the same way? It shouldn't work two different ways?

Yeah, I wasn't positive if you just asked in the wrong area.
I'm guessing under LTE and mobile options you have international checked, which means it won't work...
In other words, I guess you might be stuck using a third party app for group messaging.

Global is checked off I thin is what you mean.
But thing is not really careing about group messaging. I know group messaging works.
I can send it out to multiple folks etc.
What's happening to me (see if ic an make this make more sense.)
Lets say you and I are friends and we text back and forth.
I have one text thread from you and you have one form me. We txt back and forth it always goes there no problem.
Then you send me a text with image. Thus an MMS.
Now I get a new thread likes it a group thread to myself and you.
So if you look at my messaging list you see one thread form you and only you.
then the second thread from me and you.
Normally that would just go into the single thread we text back and forth in all the time.
That make any more sense?
You can see in the images. I highlighted the two conversations.
and I added a screen shot of the odd man out message. they one should have jsut gone into the other as one thread.
Least that's how it has worked on my last two phones.
I haven't had this thing happening since I was back on Nokia NGAGE. }:>D
In short as I think about. Probably the esiest explanation is that any mms message I recieve is being treated and handled as a group message. To which I am wondering if this is the norm or because im not using a verizon sim in a verizon phone.

I have the EXACT same issue on an AT&T S3 running Hyperdrive 15. Doesn't matter what msg app I use, no change. I flashed to CM10.1.2 recently and the bug went away. Couldn't help but to go back to Hyperdrive tho despite the MMS issue which is BEYOND annoying.

For our phone, group MMS only works correctly on our native SCH-I605VRAMC3 base. You should be asking in your ROM's thread how to fix it, or if there's even a possible way to fix it. Good luck.

It won't let me post in the ROM thread because I don't have 10 posts under my belt and I don't want to just go around posting nonsense so I do. No amount of searching/reading has led me to a conclusion so far.

You can still make a thread in the AT&T S3 Q&A section. I'm just saying people with AT&T S3's will have better knowledge of MMS bugs particular to that model than VZW Note 2 users, make sense?
Like I said, for our phone, you have to be on the native base for MMS to work correctly. So if Hyperdrive is not on the native AT&T S3 base, that might be your problem. But I have no idea, just like anyone else who is likely to read this thread, since it's in a forum for a different phone on a different carrier.
Good luck.

See images.

Just wondering if you ever found a solution to this. I'm having the exact same problem with my S4. It's a verizon device and I'm using it with Bell, a Canadian carrier. Seems to work great except for that mms issue and i can't figure it out for the life of me. This was the only thread i could find trying to address this issue.
