[Q] Contacts and Facebook - Motorola Droid X2

So I had a HTC HD2 that I could merge facebook and phone contacts into 1 contact on my phone. I got the Droid X2 and that feature is not available. Is there a rom or something out there that will fix this. Have multiple of my contacts so annoying.

That is frustrating, I know. I don't know of anything that will do it for you. I've always had to do it manually. When you see multiples of your contacts, select one of them (one without a picture, usually). Go to edit contact. Once you are there, press the menu key again, and you will see a menu pop up with a "join" option. Press join. You will then see a screen with the contacts that match up with that one. Select the one you want, and it will sync the contacts.
Yes, it's time consuming and annoying, but I haven't found a better way.
FYI: When you flash different roms, be prepared to do it all over again.
Hope this helps!

if they're named the same I gotta say I think they merge automatically.
as mentioned above, I had to manually "join" one of them, cause the guy has his FB name reversed last/first, but other than that I think they all did it automatcially.

It will merge automatically for the most part. There were a few cases where my contact on phone and Facebook had the same name but I had to merge them manually

Thanks for the response. I have tried that per the instruction booklet and there is no "Join" option. I have contacted Verizon about this when I first go the phone and they where stumped as well. Their response was to contact Motorola and see what they say. LAME!! Im thinking about flashing to another rom and see what happens.

Weird contacts sorting problem

Hi All,
Just bought hero last week and transferred my contacts from E71 to Hero using Outlook and HTC Sync.
The problem is, People program mixes up the list of my contacts. Here is what I see when I launch it:
My Name
A random set of contacts starting with A to Z
A..
B..
C..
..
..(and so on)
Z..
- a divider line -
Remaining contacts with A
A..
..
- a divider line -
Remaining contacts with B
B..
..
..(and so on)
- a divider line -
Remaining contacts with Z
..
- a divider line -
Why does Hero shows some contacts without dividing them into alphabet? I have checked that all my contacts are "Phone" contacts and they show up alphabetical in Outlook (and was in E71)
are the random ones at the top just ones with Company names??
I know that happens on mine if i sync across contacts that have nothing in the 'Name' field in outlook, and just a company name instead.
No they are totally similar contacts. All of my contacts has name field and I do not use non-Latin characters. This is actually pretty weird. I'll try to add some screenshots when I get back home..
Thanks for the response

That happened to me as well. I realized that for those contacts, I only had information in "Surname" field (even the first name was written there) thus it would add a space before this info and the space makes those contacts float there. This also applies when you have first name but no surname. HTC Sync sucks. To fix it, you can open these contacts in Outlook, change the name, change it back to original but in first-last name fields, save again, and then click the dropdown "File as" and select something else and select it back to "First, Last name" and then sync again... Something like this

Thanks much man!
This really helped. Since the number of irregular names are limited, I've edited them on the phone.

With Regard to Weird contacts sorting problem with HTC
I had the same problem as leventbb, etc on a brand new HTC Thunderbolt...and the old posts were 2 years ago so apparently HTC hasn't fixed it. For those who run in to this as well, here is wat I found. As much as it seems the contacts are out of order, in my cast it was because there was nothing in the last name field so HTC for some reason, but not in all cases put a space in front of it. So...if I chose to go to the very beginning of my contacts, the order was: those with nothing in any of the name fields, those which I just explaned that show now as having a space in front (only on the card, if you open it up it looks fine); those which start with numbers and then regular A-Z. When I tried copying the first name, delelting it and pasting it back and saving, it went into the correct A-Z place, but then all of a sudden was back in the "wrong" place in front of those contacts starting with numbers (because of the space that is back...). I am assuming it's because the Thunderbolt just synched.
To fix it, I found that by placing my cursor in the Last Name field and using my backspace key, that even though it acts like nothing is there, when I save it, it goes back to it's "right" place in A-Z and stays there.
Hope this helps someone else. It was a real problem when I thought contacts were missing when looking alphabetically, but could find them when I searched...

[Q] Utterly stupid importing of "All Contacts" from Google.

Hi All,
Before you say it, I know what I'm doing and understand how Google contacts work, I had a HTC HD2 (thanks Pongster and XDA!) and I am used to Android.
I know how Google contacts work, infact I submitted a bug fix to AweSync to fix up their syncing of Google Contacts with Lotus Notes.
Why does the Samsung Galaxy 1 (and 2!) show me _ALL CONTACTS_ when trying to SMS people? or when I try to save a newly dialled number into contacts, it shows all contacts?
I don't want to SMS an email address! I don't want to sift through 1,300 contacts yet this idiot phone is showing me them.

http://members.iinet.net.au/~scottylans/diddlyderp.jpg
http://members.iinet.net.au/~scottylans/derpphone.jpg
It's listing email Address's in the SMS TO: field - yet I've CLEARLY unticked "All contacts" and I've made it only show contacts with a phone number.
What is wrong with this thing?
EDIT: also, forgetting my ring tone every time I reboot isn't impressing me either.
Okay, I can't answer all your problems, and I do agree that the management of contacts on this phone is pretty poor, but there's obviously ways round certain issues.
One thing that will immediately help you is to use the contacts app to send SMS, rather than the SMS app. Select your contact (filtered as shown in your post) and you can swipe them left to SMS or right to call. That's a pretty handy feature.
However, if you're sending a message to more than 1 person you're back to square 1. I'd strongly recommend getting GO SMS Pro and GO Contacts (both free) from the Market. They're excellent replacements and I'm sure you'll be a LOT happier with them.

It does what you describe above. I don't know what you expect it to do though. You dial a number, click "Add to contacts" or "New contact" to either list all your contacts or create a new one.
is there any solution to this, i quite like the messaging app, but find it quite annoying when i have to search through hundreds of contacts, or else exit out to the contact application to text some1 who's actually in my contacts list ....
Its not a deal breaker for me, i prefer the stock than go sms or handcent, or any alternative i've tried, so if there is no fix i'll grin and bear it but if there is please help out
.... its not that i prefer the stock to any other, its just that no other provides anything that makes me want to move from stock, and since both will be running anyways it seems pointless to be wasting battery .... also i found double contacts problems with other apps aswell

Why? I think it is a good idea, since I very often MMS to email addresses! It is very handy to automatically downsize an image to MMS size when you are sending it to a person who you know will be looking at the email on their phone (e.g. my friend in Japan doesn't have MMS at all, over there nearly everything is email).
Been wondering about this too, i know the contact app you can customize what to show, which is fine, but the sms app show everyone you have been in contact with on google. Only "fix" i've found so far is to use another SMS app that can filter the contact list.
The solution is very simple. Just open display options in contacts and select only display contacts with numbers. Also untick everything that you don't want it to display. I don't save any numbers in phone or sim card so I save it to gmail account.
Even if I select only gmail it shows lots unnecessary contacts. So I went to gmail on my laptop and opened the contacts (phone book or something like that. Its been over a year so I don't remember)
I created a new category (u can choose an existing one) and transferred every single contact that I needed under it.
And thats it. Everytime I format my phone I just go to contact display settings on my phone and only choose the category that I made. And it only shows the contacts that I need.
It works also if u want to save a contact. I chose to save contacts to my gmail account when it asks. And everytime u save it saves it to the category that u choose.
I have been using this over a year and work flawlessly. I remember beig sick of choosing amongst 1000s of contacts.
I tried to explain as I could. If there is a problem ask me I will try to help.
Edit:
I realized this doesn't answer ur question about sms. This doesn't fix that SMS list behaviour.

How to add new contact to Google or Exchange

Hi,
Need help to clarify this operation.
Let's say, after dialing a new phone number, I want to add that to a new contact.
But I want to save that contact as Google contact or contact in MS Exchange account. I fiddle around the phone for 10 minutes, but could not figure how. appreciate if anyone can provide solution to this.
My phone is AT&T Galaxy S2, loaded with Unnamed 1.04 rom. But, it should be very close to stock samsung rom, in term of adding contact.
James
I have no idea about MS exchange since I don't use it, but I do know a way to save them to google.
Save the contact like normal, and then select the contacts tab. Hit menu (the left most key at the bottom) and select 'merge with google'. That will update the contacts in both directions.
Ok, finally figure this one out.
Open "Contact", then hit "menu soft key"->"More"->"Settings"->"Save new contact to"->"Always ask"
Glad you found it, that is probably the better way than the method I found.

Double contact shows up even when deleted? Help please.

Something very weird is happening on my contact list.
No, I do not have ANY number on my SIM.
No, I do not have any number in my T-Mobile contact list.
I have a friend of mine whose name is DG.
So I wanna send a new text, I open the Message application, tap on the bar to select the contact, write the initials of the name, DG, and usually you should get a list of people who are named so... what happens here is that when I type this specific contact, I see it TWICE.
DG 1702... Mobile
DG +1702... Mobile
Why?
Checked GMail, there is only one entry.
Checked my Contact list, only one entry.
Went to GMail, DELETED the contact, synced the contacts, and it does not show in my Contacts list BUT! This is just weird now... when I try to send a new message, type the name... it shows up DG +1702... Mobile
What the hell?
I thought it could be Skype, or WhatsApp, but I checked the same thing with other contacts who also have Skype and WhatsApp and this does not occur... Anyone?
Thanks
PS: I have checked the other two threads but none give a solution.
One of them may be showing up because of call history and sent history.
This one you CAN turn off in:
messages>settings>general> show sent message history and show call history
One of them showing up may be Tmobile Contact Back Up.
This one you CAN'T turn off.
Option? Root and remove.
Once TCBU sync's it won't let you remove it.
P.S. I replied to your PM already, as well.
Hope this helps bro.

Yeah I saw the reply and replied. Thanks.
The thing is, I don't have any contacts on TMo back up...
And why does it do it to only one contact so far?
Just deleted all my contacts from GMail, and also from my phone, deleted WhatsApp and skype... And when I go type a new text, the number DG is still there...
Guess what... I removed the microSD card... problem solved... No more duplicate!
I wonder why now...

[Q] How to remove At&t Address Book from Contacts

Every time I open contacts it tries to sync with at&t address book. I want to stop this from happening. Any thoughts?
Go into setting-accounts and sync and remove AT&T account. Then go into contact settings-display options and make sure you don't have it checked(if it's an option anymore). Hope that helps.
Edit:looks like in display options, the first phone is for AT&T. Just go into that and uncheck em all.
i dont see any of those settings ...
If you've ever accepted the at&t backup option before, on any phone, you'll have to call up customer care and have them remove it for you. If you've never used it before, you should be able to cancel the operation when it prompts you and it shouldn't pop up again
Edit: I see that you're on Telus so obviously you haven't used it before lol.. You may have to find the service in titanium backup and freeze it to keep it from trying to contact at&t every time you open the address book. I'm sure other ppl using at&t notes have run into this problem before..
Go into main settings then accounts and sync to remove the AT&T account. Once that's done go into contacts and hit the capacitive menu button. Hit more and you'll see display options. Hit that and you'll see all your options to show contacts. hit each one and check off what you want. I prefer google only, but if all your contacts are on your Sim then use the bottom phone option.

I've successfully removed it before without calling them after I've synced. Let me do a little more digging and I'll let you know if there's anything else to do.

Not to confuse the OP, but found an easier way. Go into contacts and hit settings button. Hit more and choose accounts. you'll see all the accounts that are synced including AT&T. Press it and remove.
Edit:if that doesn't work, I got nothing else. The only other thing is to go into contacts, settings, more, settings and choose to save contacts to anything but phone. If you don't do that I think it will continue to sync when you add a new contact. Good luck!

Anyone else having same problem. None of these solutions is useful because they assume options, settings, or items that aren't present.
The Contacts app launches with a dialog about "subscriber" information for AT&T even tho one is not on that telco. Anyone else had this exact problem, understand why these solutions can't work, and found one that does?
I am currently using The Unofficial 2.0 Beta 4 and installed the inverted app kit found through the tools provided in the rom. This is what fixed the problem for me.
You can't remove it. It's not part of the sync providers. The AT&T rom comes with a custom-built Contacts.apk and it's integrated with Android. You'll have to just find/download/use a different Contacts app from the Play Store.
I think however, that removing the AT&T bloatware makes it stop nagging for the AT&T Address Book sync.
I've tried replacing /system/app/Contacts.apk from other ICS builds and it would crash when trying to open Contacts.
If you are on ICS, you can disable it from app management under all... look in the "S's" for Sync then click disable. It may still launch a few times because it is in RAM. So launch it a few times and hit cancel. Reboot and launch contacts again and hit cancel. It should go away after that. If you did sign up for that servce you can disable it online (if you are on ATT).
Since you are on Telus, I am guessing you are running one of the ICS leaks or custom ROMs that use one as a base.

Root then remove AABSync.apk from /system/app directory seems to work fine. Left a copy on SD just in case.
Old Thread, Just to help out though, I stumbled on contacts+ in the android market, it works well.:good:
This worked for me.
On my Galaxy S3 mini, running JB. Contacts, settings, contacts to display. I selected my gmail only. No more AT&T.
I have just fixed this problem via another forum (as the issue is the phone's address book trying to sync with the online AT&T address book).
Go to the Dial keypad and enter *#*#2666#*#. That will bring up the AAB Setting. Click on Registration, and change the setting from 'Initialized' to 'Completed' . That will stop your address book trying to sync with online At&T address book
