[Q] how to dual boot ubuntu and android? - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am considering buying either a Archos 43 (16 gig) -OR- a Samsung Galaxy 5 media player.
They are similar in size although the 5 is newer and prob technologically better since the 43 came out 3 or more years ago.
I like the Android operating system. But it has a few quirks. So I like Ubuntu since it's FREE! and it's kinda like windows...
What I want to know is how to put Ubuntu on either devices as simply as possible .
I am giving the 43 the edge since Archos has software to load another operating system (like Ubuntu) next to their Android system.
When I say 'Simply' I mean without rooting.

was just going to suggest the same thing
There are very few android devices that have native ubuntu running 100% due to lack of drivers so by running ubuntu in android, sure its a bit laggier but 100% working

[Q] [IDEA] Dual-Boot

I am waiting for my Archos 70 to come in. It should be here the 6th. and I was just wondering would it be possible to dual-boot windows on it? Sorry if it sounds stupid but this is my first tablet and just wondered if it would be possible.
and the reason why i would like it is because I would love to run android as the main platform but would also love to be able to run certain programs like Rosetta Stone while I'm on the go.
Not until the ARM version of Windows becomes available. You might be able to CE but I haven't seen anyone do that yet. You will also need to install the SDE to dual boot.
sorry to sound noobish but what is sde and CE?

SDE is the "Special Developers Edition" of the Achos Firmware. You install it on your Archos & it will let you boot into a developer's menu which you can use to boot into other operating systems (at this point, Linux Based stuff including Android).
CE is the old-school embedable version of Windows that was used on PDAs & stuff 10 years ago. It is the precursor to Windows Mobile. It is still used in some cash registers & other specialty machines. Maybe you could manage to install it on your Archos...you won't be happy!
If I do use windows i will only use it when I want to use Rosetta Stone if it's compatible. But if we can do that we can switch between android and windows whenever we want?
NOOOOO.
You could only install Windows CE if ever.
And that is not a PC Windows.

[Q] windows on a nook

Just wondering if it was possible to install windows (xp or newer) after the bootloader is hacked.
I got bored and looked at all the minimum requirments and the nook tablet meets all of them (except for hdd requirents for vista and 7) however i don't know anything about processor architecture and compatibility.

I don't mean to smash your dream, but there is a 0% chance of that happening. Window XP will not work on ARM.
Windows 8 will be the first version with an ARM port and I seriously doubt even the Nook Tablet has the horsepower / memory / emmc space to run it.

[Q] Asus FHD 10 ME302C (x86) boot windows 8?

I know it's possible to unlock the bootloader for the FHD 10 but how would I boot windows? I noticed people flash rooted images after they unlock bootloaders, would booting windows be the same? Would I need to create a windows image and then flash it like one would a rooted image?
Here's how to root the FHD 10 . Flashing full versions of windows 8.1 on and android x86 device seems like something no one has done yet. It will be awesome when it happens though.
Technically the hardware could support Windows 8, but I doubt we'll be seeing anyone trying to bring the OS to the ME302C. There just aren't enough developers interested in the tablet and it's not as simple as putting windows onto a new computer is.
windows on mobile devices (all versions) does not get as much support as android. and they are not open source so their hacks and mods are very few.
A $250 Win 8 tablet will draw in developers. I believe a lot of Asus Transformer Prime Devs will be interested.
As for installing windows, your right, tablet bios' are very basic.Either a bios will need to be ported or something like twrp2 could be used to make flashing a windows image manageable.
The biggest problem is getting things to work on x86, even the asus bootloader unlock was written for ARM and needs to be recompiled.
Another problem is storage. Even 32GB is not enough for Windows (not RT).
If you managed to install OS on SD, it's a different story.
Windows 8.1 has a minimum storage requirement of 16 GB. Installing programs would be best on a micro sd card. Although the fhd comes in both 16 and 32 gb. Enough to install microsoft office and some other productivity apps without a sd card.

[Q] Chroot question

This might be a weird one, but has anyone has come up with the notion of chrooting android x86 inside a pc linux distro. The reverse is quite common ( linux deploy, lil debi etc bundling a debian environment inside a linux device ). I was googling my day to something describing this as something common yet, nothing ( it can be done almost casually on android devices an likewise on major linux distros ).
Has it crossed anyone else's mind ? Whould anybody be interested in postinge something I might have missed or stopping me from trying ( providing sound reasons for not doing so or shouting "this is madness" for maximum drama effect ) .
Whould anyone find it interresting if..... should..... maybe.... provided that i succeeded I post the proccess ?
Hi, yes I thought about this too and spend way too much time looking for a solution like that Plase post if you find anything or even manage to do something on your own. This would totally rock, as I don't want to use any proprietary OS but would like to play some Android games on my computer.
I found a thread where someone managed to do this, but running on the Android kernel. It's still different from running GNU+Linux chrooted, because on the Android kernel runs GNU+Linux and then Android chrooted (kinda complicated ). I asked whether it's possible to have the GNU+Linux kernel running isntead of Android's, you can check it out here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1780378
Also, maybe we can just copy from Chromium/ Chrome OS when they are done implementing support for natively running Android Apps on the OS (which they announcend on Google IO 2014). Hmm, probably not so great (fast) since it will run inside the browser...
A google search got me here. What you guys what to do is a lil different then what i want. I have a really neat device an ASUS TRIO an intel atom powered device.
It has android 4.3 and a windows 10 in the keyboard. The problem is the android 4.3 is so dang old. Id love if it had an update available but only the french tablet asus made that copied the trio tablet only (not dock) got an update to android 4.4. So it got me thinking could I run chrome os on this tablet and gain back more of the support ive lost since the android is so old. That led me to chroot and I know I can run debian but like I said Id love to run chrome os but no one is working on this or I cant find it. Suggestions?
I do not get why this should be a problem. You simply can not chroot into different architectiute (PC is x86 or x86_64). But you can use emulator to provide "bridge" between those architectures. Its called Qemu. You can use qemu binaries for chroot into another architecture. But I do not think that what you want, you area talking about gaming a android games on PC. Thats possible too but I think its not called chroot but its again emulator (not qemu but android emulator) for example AnBox.

WINDOWS 10/11 , CHROMEOS , UBUNTU

Do you think there's any way to install WIN 10/11 on our tablet? (No emulators)[Dual Boot Maybe], even the ARM version works.
I am also ready to install (dualboot) chrome os (CloudReady), but for that we need the device to boot from live usb which maybe isn't available on our tablet, and if it is, please guide me.
I've done my part of research and I've been using the tab s 7+ for about 4 months now. I need windows or a full on chrome desktop experience of windows. My last resort for this will be Linux/Ubuntu, which i am not willing to go for, but will do if i have no other option.

I haven't heard of anyone installing windows 10 even windows 11 on an android tablet like the tab s7
Your best bet would be Linux or smth like that because the kernel would be similar.
Windows can’t be installed because Windows use a different kernel process from Linux and android, nonetheless, I don't know if anyone has managed to run it.

Won't happen.
The bootloader will not allow it and Win 10/11 does not support the Qualcomm 865 SOC.

I don't think the 845 was supported either, yet the Oneplus 6t runs Windows 11 though
Here's Windows 11 running on a OnePlus 6T months before it gets Android 11 [Video]
A talented developer has managed to install Microsoft's new Windows 11 platform on the OnePlus 6T, a device even lacking Android 11.

It loads and kinda runs, but core SOC features do not work.
So no, the 845 is not "supported".
No network, no bluetooth, no sound, partially functioning GPU... that's not a functional device.
An of course the high risk of bricking your device.
it is windows 11, idk if windows ARM would run it but idk, i rather not risk breaking my phone for installing windows
Hi,
I came across this article on how it can be done. https://www.androidauthority.com/install-windows-on-android-868800/

Hi,
I can across this link talking about software that can do it....not sure about the authenticity of the same.
Here's how to install Windows on Android tablets
You can't directly install Windows on an Android tablet, but you can certainly use it on one. Here's how to use Windows on an Android tablet.

I wish this was possible .. now i am selling my tablet over this hhhh i mean cause i need to run windows
While the Windows 11 ARM Versions start to slowley emerge for some android devices, give Parsec a try for your Remote Desktop work. It differs from RDP, since over parsec you can actually use the Host PC's GPU.
There are some android tablets that have Windows 11 up and running: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Xiaom...devices-that-can-run-Windows-11.604674.0.html
