[Q] Call Recording? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Disclaimer: I am well aware of all the legal issues of recording telephone calls.
Has anyone been able to record telephone calls with their AT&T Galaxy Note? There were some modified audio .so files available for the international version that enabled this functionality, but when I pushed them to my AT&T Note, the phone would not boot
I also tried a few applications from the market, no luck capturing the other person's voice. I love this phone, and had high hopes of being able to record calls.
Thanks for any information or suggestions!

I've been just assuming Total Recall was working like it did on my international Note, but it's not! I just tried every setting I could, and it will not record the other side of the conversation (other than through the mic...) This is really disappointing. AT&T, YOU SUCK! Yet another negative compared to the international version.

I don't suppose you've tried dr.ketan's call recording solution for the international Note? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415310&highlight=recording
Once CWM is available for the AT&T version I'll give this a try (after a nandroid backup), but I don't know how to flash it otherwise.

Try AllCallRecorder. Make sure you go to settings and click on 'Record Other Party".

Yes, these are the audio .so files that I pushed. Since there is no CWM yet, I used ADB to push the files and give them permission but then my Note would not boot up so I reverted back to the original files. I also tried the Call Recorder S application alone and it did not work.

That's odd, it works both on my note and skyrocket... You must have a conflicting app installed.

+1 for CallRecorder...Works perfectly...just wish I could turn it on/off per call via a widget or something.

May I suggest "The call recorder" from market.
I found that it records incoming voice much clearer and i like the auto record setting. The pro version is cheap and lets you record unlimited calls. Ignore the negative reviews it works perfect on the note.

I tried "The Call Recorder" and it didn't work. Well it recorded something, but it saved in a .amry file format I've never heard of, and my Note's never heard of it, either. I couldn't play back the recording from the app, from anything else on the Note, nor from my laptop, trying even VLC! I googled the .amry file extension and couldn't find anything about it, either.
CallRecorder works great, though, with sound quality better than Total Recall that I was using before.

This is interesting. I tried "The Call Recorder" as well and it did not work for me either. My Note was able to play the .amry files just fine, but the other person was very faint and it did not work with a any type of headset. I am going to have to flash the stock rom and try some of these other apps without any other applications since I am intrigued as to why some apps work only for some folks.
I second the CallRecorder again...the call quality is great even with my bluetooth which is huge for me.

WOW -- I have been trying everything I can get my hands on to get this working. CallRecorder_v.1.1.6_trial.apk did the trick. It records both sides out of the box. Awesome! Just to clarify this is an AT&T Galaxy Note

Its a great idea but I want to default to not record and then record on the fly. Hopefully I can find an app to do that.

Does this work with bluetooth headsets on the NOTE? are you guys using any special kernels or roms to get his work? or completely stock rom / kernel? I find this unbelieveable and wonderful if true!
Can someone please confirm that both sides are recorded clearly using a BT headset?
sincere thanks in advance.

rob - thank you very much for responding.
to clarify on other thing, is there any echo, aka can you hear your own voice in the BT headset -- this was the annoying aspect of trying to record with BT headsets using the international version of the note (N7000) which i currently have.
sorry for being to nitpicky, but before i see my international note and purchase an at&t version, i just want to be 100% sure.
thanks in advance for your response to this question.
so, to be clear, what kernel are you using? Da-G seems to have a prerooted kernel....is that the one?
everything else stock -- meaning, stock rom?

I hear no echo in my headset during recording. Here is a link to a call i made with my Bluetooth headset. Call was made in a car with the window down.
http://db.tt/GABhdPdY
As for the kernel, im still a bit green on android terminology, but i followed the instructions on da_g's thread for overclocking and root. Everything else is stock
Hope this helps!!
PS: ignore the goofy call. I was getting ready to move my companies servers into a new data center and wanted a letter of recommendation before i did it in case things went south

Hi biswasd,
Wanted to post for everyone's information. I am recording via bluetooth and both sides are very clear and have not had any problems with an echo using a Jawbone Era bluetooth headset. Have flashed both Da_G root kernal and then his overclock kernal from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504920. Lastly, I am using this software: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1441643 with the Record Calls from set to Standard Android API.
Hope this helps!

In Call Recording possible?

Is in-call recording of both sides of the conversation possible on the X10? Are both sides voices recorded clearly and there is no need to use the speaker in order to record both sides?
Check out v Recorder in the android store. I think that might be what your looking for.

I wasn't looking for a suggestion, thanks though. I am actually more interested in a confirmed report by a X10 owner/user that this is actually possible on the X10 before I buy the phone (I am on X1 at the moment and call recording isn't possible on X1).
I'm afraid that the incall recording uses the speaker to record the other persons voice.
Call Recorder has positive comments for perfect working.
it costs 0.99 pounds.
does (only) work with android 1.x .
Are you sure that the opinions expressed here"http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-opensystem-callrecord-jjDw.aspx"
are positive??
not completely positive ..
the german market gives me a 5* rating for it .. sorry ..
hope we'll find a workaround for it, i'd really like to have a recording option.

I am using the excellent cooked Energy Rom by NRGZ28 which is also based on the Touch HD and has the in-call recorder included, but it doesn't work on X1. As I said - I am following all the threads regarding this issue and no-one seems to have found a way to make in-call recording work on X1, but if you know for a fact that this is doable please post a URL of a thread that explains how it's done.

try this
Once you have dialed a call, press the notes icon (post-it note with tack through it). This will open up the notes application. From there choose Menu->View Recording Toolbar. The toolbar will open up on the bottom of the screen and will allow you record both sides of the conversations while writing or typing

That's exactly what I meant when I wrote that clear and proper 2-way recording is not possible on the X1.
If you tried your suggestion you will see that you can record your own voice very loud and clear, but can barely hear the other side, which is actually recorded from the ear speaker and not straight from the phone.
I have a SE K750i which, for example, which record both sides of the conversation at the same high volume, perfectly. That's what I am talking about...

Hi,
I have an X10 and downloaded "Total Recall Trial". You had to restart the phone, but after that it record the call like a charm, BOTH WAYS!!!
No "beep" at all. Some recorders have "beeps" every minute.
Will defenitley buy this app as soon as I can. Live in Sweden, so paying for apps is not yet available through Market! :-(
To listen to the calls after I use an app named "aPlayer".

[Q] Call recording?

Hi,
Has anyone tested whether call recording works? In case you didn't know, there IS an API for recording calls, however it silently fails on most phones. Apparently on some it does work:

I have installed total recall on my galaxy s2 and it works but I can perfectly record with loud voice the opponent but i don't hear my voice.. very strange, it is the opposite of Galaxy s..
I have tryed also Call recorder widget but it doesn't record anything.
Some other experince?
Just wanting to keep this alive. Total Recall records the remote voice great but not the local (phone mic) voice.
I did see on another thread with the S1 replacing some system files, from a Taiwan ROM? Is this not possible with the S2?
Thanks for anyone attempting to fix this. Otherwise, I'm happily surprised by this phone everytime I look at it
There is another thread on this already.

It doesn't use the speaker phone to record so it s great quality

Hi.
Just today I founded this app: VoiceRecorder and works perfectly for my SGSII.
Different from Calrecorder is that this app don't show any icon when ready for recording
and also is for free
DarkyRom2 XXKI3 Base ( 2.3.5 ) comes with an in-built call recorder which works very smooth , you can hear both sides very clear and it has a button in the call screen so it's very easy to use ..
it works!
one more app that works!

so which is the best? any of them work on bluetooth?
also WHERE is the callrecorder by dsoft I can not find it in the market. anyone have a link or an apk if no longer on the market?
found the dsoft one via google search.
odd he has 3 that all appear the same 2 free 1 $3 but support appears lacking and apparently it has issues with file corruption you won't know about till you find a file it did not record.
consensus on which is the best/most reliable. I don't mind a pay app especially if the quality and transparent (record all calls to sd) automation is good.

As far as I know call recording will not now nor will it ever work over bt. The drivers don't support it
Hmm it must not be accessing the hardware directly like it does on the touch pro2 - since on that unit it records no matter what I use to make the call speaker handset or bluetooth.
Pity
Is this a hardware limitation or a software limitation?

I think both. They tend to remove it as it is illegal in many areas unless you tell them it is being done before they say anything. I used to use it myself till a buddy of mine found the recording while we were looking over my phone files to troubleshoot an issue and as a lawyer he adviced that I stop using it right away or I could be sued lol

No luck with Csipsimple or Sipdroid. I figured one of these would be the first to get mic/headphone support.

I can confirm that as well, I downloaded "Voice Recorder" from the market to record notes, and it works. What gives? if some random app can get access to the microphone, why can't the VoIP apps do it?
I'm trying to figure out how to make a call somehow as well.
Has there been anything new on this front yet - just bought and rooted a NT and would love to make calls with it
I used skype on mine and it worked well.
The closest I have gotten is with Skype or grooveip.
Skype FCs when the party being called answers. Each version I've tried has acted a little differently so I am still hopeful that an update will work some day. With the proliferation of tablets I know they are working on it though not necessarily for the NT.
Everything about grooveip seems to work but the microphone doesn't seem to be recognized and the speaker does not work. The speaker plays the ringing sound while trying to connect (and the volume is adjustable) but upon answer it does not play and the volume function is Xed out just as it would be when you are muted at the lowest setting. Volume buttons do not respond. Other than that there is definitely a telephony link between the NT and the phone being called. This is version 1.1.8 I'm trying.

Would you mind sharing? I am quite interested in getting Skype to work. No success as yet.
Here's a basic (possibly stupid) question. Is the NT headset jack a mic/earphone jack or just a headset jack? I couldn't tell from any of the teardowns.
im not sure but it could be a lib/s missing or existing one that need to be modified, ill try to look into it ask some devs i know and report back
I downloaded textplus and it is SO ClOSE to working! I can use it to sms and I can receive calls and make calls. The person on the other end can hear me BUT I cent hear them!
Also there is twin thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363215&page=10
and one interesting comment
I also have success with iPhone mic + talk-a-play. I note /etc/astound.conf shows both mic channels ON. Could this be part of the problem? Linux Alsa doesn't work with Skype unless you turn one channel off because the 2 channels cancel each other out. Someone who really knows Alsa needs to have a good look at this file. I don't really understand it, but it definitely gives a description for a mic.

I'm playing with asound.conf now, and it seems to be the right place to look. I managed to break HI-Q recorder from working, make 'fring test call' be heard (not me), and even make device stuck from full boot (removing asound.conf from adb shell saved me) =)

Call Recording

Has anyone who already purchased the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 been able to confirm if 2way in-call recording works across mic/speaker, speakerphone, and/or bluetooth headset?
Is additional software required, i.e., CallRecorder, Total Recall, etc.?
Thanks.
I can't say for sure if it works without root but I just rooted mine and installed call recorder the called voicemail and it picked up both sides.
I'm downloading root now.
Did you test the call recorder with a blue tooth headset and were you able to hear both sides?

Just tried bluetooth and only got incoming. Might be able to get it working if you play with the settings though.

Any suggestions?
Much appreciated.
Thx.
I'm new to Samsung devices (been on HTC devices for the last 3 phones), so might this work on our phones?

We can't yet do the install of the update.zip via CWM since we do not have CWM yet, but could we do the "manually replace packed apk files to system/app folder" process to enable call recording?
Thx.

it looks like the update enables a native samsung record button in the dialer.
has anyone tried to install this yet?

Will someone who is rooted please try call recorder app by skvalex. From the play store. You will also need to download Alsa app by skvalex as the Samsung exynos processors require the use of the Alsa app in conjunction with the call recorder app. Hoping blue tooth call right cording works once Alsa is installed. You have to go into settings in call recorder and then go to advanced experimental features to download and activate Alsa app.
Thanks in advance.

I just tried it and using Alsa it wouldn't even make a recording file from the handset so I switched back to "Standard android API" and it's working again but still no go from bluetooth.

Yeah. I thought you needed to be for CallRecorder to work at all but either way I'm definitely rooted.

Well this sucks ballz.
i'm afraid we're going to need a custom kernel to get call recorder app working. if you look at the original note (both at&t and international) forums, you'll see that the exynos processeors route the call audio completely differently (the kernel controls). VS. Qualcomm chipsets which route directly from audio source to the DSP chip inside the phone....
long story short....we're going to need some kernels for each gnote 2 (i.e. sprint, verizon, at&t, tmobile)....frankly, I"m a verizon customer, so hopefully some of our talented rom / kernel chefs will take a note of this thread and build a kernel that works.....
the waiting begins.....fingers crossed....

Exactly.... This is why I'm still on the s3 as well. It works right out of the box with call recorder by skvakex.
If you root however, it will stop working. Choose other in the phone type. And android app for the sound input. Also aac for the file type.
any updates on kernel development?
BTW ---- I just bought an LG Spectrum 2 (LG VS930).....awesome phone! Screen is gorgeous and best of all......drum roll...
call recording works out of the box, no rooting or other tweaks needed.....call recorder app by skvalex....
bluetooth call recording works as well!!! both sides perfectly clear....just an FYI.....still hoping the Gnote 2 gets some kernels and roms soon that support this as well.

That was the case until the JB update...have you had any luck or has anyone with getting call recording to work on Spectrum 2 since the update?
You could use the Closed Framework and the Call Recorder plugin for it, its supposed to work quite well.

[Q] Skype Voice Calling on 4.4+

I use voice chat on Skype a lot, but I also love the speed from 4.4.1 + crpalmer's kernel + bionic libs, however, there's one thing that's keeping me away from that speed, and that's voice chatting being broken on 4.4..Does anyone know a fix for this or know what kind of problem it is? Is it a 4.4 ROM problem or a kernel problem? Whether stock kernel or crpalmers, whenever I initiate a Skype call, it literally kills my ears, it makes this extremely loud screeching and static-y noise that never goes away unless I restart my phone...Anyone know what's up with this?

Have you tried last night's CM 11.0 nightly build? I specifically posted in that thread (which is where you should be looking to see if there is anything new) that I had pushed changes that *might* fix Skype problems and asking for feedback and yet I received 0 feedback.

Oh alright, I'll try it out right now, I'm booting into recovery, I'll get back to you with results in about 5 minutes.

Sorry for double post, I just wanted to make sure you saw it, but, Skype calling still makes that horrific static noise as before, thanks for trying to help anyway though.

What version did you install? (Specifically)
Are you using your phone as a phone, speaker phone, headset, bluetooth?

I'm using my headphones to test the Skype call audio, and I'm testing 20131211. I'll try speaker phone audio right now.
EDIT: I don't even hear anything when Skype calling through phone speaker, no call tone or anything.

That sounds like the behaviour prior to the changes I pushed. I just double checked an a wired headset is working fine for me.
