Ics release date? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I was wondering if anyone heard anything about the official ics update...

2013 and beyond.
AT&T never release official date on updates. In rare case they did, they typically blew it. For example, AT&T promised GB update for Captivate last fall. It ended up released in Feb., 2012.

PCWorld Australia says by the end of March, and Eldar Murtazin from Mobile-Review.com said rollouts are supposedly beginning March 1.

Bummer! Whatever I'm satisfied with what I've got!

Samsung's Update and ATT update timelines are completely different. The i7000 will probably get it April time frame. Don't hold your breath for a carrier update.
We will be looking for custom roms well before ATT.

When it comes out for the international version, any chance those can be modified by devs to work with the lte version? With a working camera lol

Not likely at all, otherwise we would already have a million roms ported over from the N7000 forum.

I have the Int Note and been playing with an ICS rom and it's a really nice OS. I can't go back to GB now that I tried out ICS.

ICS is coming to the Intl Note in March, not the ATT version. We'll be lucky to get it by the end of the year.
---------- Post added at 01:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:06 PM ----------
But yeah it will come over the air or through kies. Unless you are rooted and running other ROM.

Yes, official Android updates come OTA (over the air) directly to your phone as a notification.

what's your source on this. All they have to do from INTL to ATT is change the SOC **** basically, is there a precedent for them updating a Euro version of a phone 8 months before a US version of the same phone?

I wouldn't get your hopes up... if you're not expecting it and it comes, its a win win, but when March passes and every day you're expecting an OTA, you'll be sorely disappointed.

All US versions of the Galaxy S series were months behind the international version for the 2.2 release... The carriers have to add in all their bloatware and customizations before they can release it. ICS will be at least another 5-7 months based on prior history with AT& T

Previously Samsung specified device upgrades by region. When they announced the Note ICS update, they did not. When questioned, they still stated ICS for the "Galaxy Note" in Q1 2012. I know how ATT is with updates, but I'm still optimistic. Just makes no sense that previous announcements included region specifications in the actual press release, whereas the Note did not. Only time will tell.

Samsung has a long running history for not releasing updates in a timely matter in the US. When the Samsung Captivate came to AT&T it was the best phone on the network but still was delayed updates for months after the international Galaxy S. Don't get your hopes up.

Not our Note version and only in Germany, so far. But this means it will be rolling, and spilling, to everyone. It is good news; at least until there is some announcement about Jelly Bean and then we can all do this dance over again.
It sux that we wait 6-8 months for the newest OS then only get to enjoy it for a couple months before the best one rolls in.

God only knows how long it'll be before we see it on this side of the Pond. Will this at least speed up the devs getting the source files they need to make custom kernels? The various "leaks" (aka free beta testing for Samsung) have been great- each better than the last, but I believe what they are REALLY waiting on is the source so they can really tweak the kernel.
Before anyone starts flaming on me, I am NOT asking for an ETA of anything.. just wondering out loud if the source files are typically released in short order and if the release for the Int'l Note will be sufficient for us here.
I dont believe a kernel source for the int note will help us since it is different software

Yes we have basically the same physical phone and the idea is the same but the internals are completely different, even if source comes out when I post this message it will have absolutely no benefit to us for kernel help. Apks maybe but beneficial software is a negative.

Most likely if you want to get the ota update or how ever ics comes to us you have to be out of the box stock which is achievable with the stock odin file. When the update comes out you can bet there will be a cwm or odin file on here to get it on your phone the same day so its up to you.

I actually thought it meant, "Our original ICS version had at least 1 major bug that we discovered when testing in real-world situations and we aren't going to release it until it is ready for everyone."
Of course, they could have also meant, "At least one of our 'content partners' (who are paying big bucks to get their advertisement disguised as an application inserted into our release) hasn't actually sent in their app yet and we aren't going to release it until it is monefied for everyone."
LOL im so surprised people are surprised by lack of updates from telus/rogers/bell
we may get most phones before the usa, but we pay for it with our carriers holding back updates

I don't like AOSP ROMs, I was using OnlyOne HYFR B4, and it still has those AT&T things in Wi-Fi settings, and carrier name on the status bar.
Actually they were not big deal but it had some kind of bug, when I try installing an app from APK file, I can click "Cancel" but I can't click "Install".
So, I will be staying on rooted stock Gingerbread ROM with the holoNote kernel and wait for official ICS from TELUS.

Gnex is ICS out of the box.
@JamieD81, we're in the same boat with bricked N7000's. I bought another N7000 with a cracked screen just for the motherboard, since the only place to get N7000's fixed is in Europe. Plus I went thru 3 mainboards on my I9000M. I still buy Sammie's crap, but I'm being a little more careful about flashing roms now. I'm waiting until the official rom is released, and played with enough before I throw my i717 on the line this time.

She said if you can download the update and apply it from HTC's website that would work, but rooting and using different software would break the warranty.

The rep would not know anything except an update currently in the pipeline, that is, already heading our way. Only someone at Tmo corporate headquarters would know the strategic deployment strategy, and they do not talk. TMO tends to release updates later than other companies.
t-mobile tends to release updates not at all...
a few years ago my smartphone was updated for all carriers except t-mobile. everyone went up an android version while I did not.
who cares how much difference it makes... t-mobile is clearly lazier about updating than other companies and need a push to do so.

Well, for my Amaze 4G, they released the upgrade to ICS after about 5 months. And then very recently they did another upgrade, which would be almost a year later. But that first major update wasn't that late.
The way I look at it, if you're using these forums, you shouldn't have to wait for carrier updates. HTC did announce that an update is in the works.

This almost always refers to the international unlocked version and has zero impact on when/if the US carriers (Verizon) will update it. Nothing to see here.

After the knox stuff. I am in no rush to upgrade.
I will wait.
Some more substance to this but more than likely these are for international or GSM versions of the phone, no specifics to US carriers. Indeed VZW will be dead-last to get anything like this but thank God we have the developer community to port/develop ROMs for them eventually!

I'm hopeful but won't hold my breath for a verizon version. I was using Beans' rom then moved to CM 4.4 to see what I was missing.
So you will see a update around July!
