Issues after issues : GPS Tracking Problem - HTC Titan

Alright, i am not a stranger in this subforum anyway so i will kick this in right away.
My Eternity served me very well in GPS Navigation Before (last month, it helped me take the journey to a brand new City to take a TOEFL test and returned home safely)
But now, i just realized it yesterday, when it failed to track down where i was on the road.
I mean, the 3G Signal is fine, i can surf web, i can search location on Bing Maps, but it fails to track down where i am. Sometime it will display something like "Sorry , Bing Maps can't ..." or it will show me somewhere not even close to my house ( i suppose it is where the tower of AT&T located.)
Somehow the GPS really fail on 3g, if i hook it up with a USB cable, or WIfi, it will show me kinda exactly where i am ( with a big circle covered up amount of area show the sign that the phone is not really sure where i am really located in that area)
I am on the latest update from HTC and Microsoft, anybody facing the same problem? I would like someword from someone use AT&T over here.
Thanks.

Wow dude. You are totally having too many issues. Gotta get a new device.
I have had literally zero issues with my Titan. And heck, the GPS lock on all my Windows Phones have been just fast and spot on, especially the Titan. This is whether I'm on 3G or 4G.
Bad luck?
Could be a temporary issue. I know every so often, GPS satellites will go crazy and just not work properly for a day or two and then be just fine.

HTC replied me with a message about letting the "Location" services on (which i always let it on) , so it is no help.
Anyway, i recognized yesterday that whenever i go outside , i will stuck on 3 bars for Signal (which i always had full bars when i went outside before)
Might it be the low-signal problem again?
I don't know if i might end up having the AT&T version which is slow on getting the update
And hey bro... how could you get the Lumia 800 that fast??? LOL

Well the GPS radio does not require you to have a signal with your wireless carrier. GPS is separate from data/voice, but of course it does need the data connection to download maps and directions.
I don't know if the update will fix your issue as the release notes don't say they fix any GPS issues. I haven't heard many people having GPS issues to begin with, so I don't think its a massive issue. Maybe its interference from something around your house? What happens if you go elsewhere?
I got the Lumia because Microsoft/Nokia gave one to me.

Man, i walk out of the house, i get stuck in 3 bars when i normally have 5.
Then i drive around St.Pete , i get stuck in 3 bars no matter where i go./
That's sweet dude... i am currently still thinking about buying Nokia again since i have had bad experience with Nokia before.

Weird. Maybe its the back plate? I read that the backplate has some contacts in it that help to increase overall phone reception, and that may include GPS reception. If you backplate isn't on the phone properly, then that may be causing interference, in which case, you may need to get a replacement backplate.

Ya, might be... but weird, i had had a really good experience with the phone , now it comes out like sh!t?
I should wait tomorrow and try it once more time, the HTC Supporter is gonna call me also. We'll see how it turns out.
Maybe you are right, sometime GPS got luggish for a little bit and be back normal after a few days.

Maybe try to reboot your phone once a day or two, & all will be fine.
I had the same issue once with GPS, & after reboot, all went fine.
God luck

No bro... this thing is so hard to predict.
With 3G , i can get the position after quite awhile... with a big circle around... they normally point at somewhere else... really hard to get correct position.
With Wifi, it catch my position right away, but always with a big circle around... if i disconnect wifi and disconnect 3G too, it will be able to track me down for quite awhile...
Turn off everything before i track my position, i got nothing from the phone.
Hand down, this is kinda clear that i have Hardware failure... but strange... one month ago, it was still fine!

me too!
I am now having the same GPS problem on my euro titan as well grr! Even after flashing several roms it still does not work, and what is even worse is that it sometimes does work!

[Q] Vibrant issues before & after OTA update!

First post, long time lurker.
Right off the bat I would like to thank all of you out there in the community who have and are contributing their time and energies, again thank you!
I'm not worried about coming off as a noob (because I am) but I've been experiencing a laundry list of issues since I purchased the phone (T-mobile in the states) and the consensus was that most likely updates would resolve them overtime.
I finally got the latest OTA from t-mobile 2 days ago and my GPS is still messed up! It worked better with the GPS fix I had found on here, has anyone else noticed this? 0 satellite fixes! and also I've been getting this annoying clicking & stuttering sounds during any audio (streaming, playing mp3s). I had read that it was a program running in the background that was most likely culprit. Has anyone tracked this one down as of yet? Last but not least, battery life! After getting the OTA I decided to see if it would make a difference and it seems just the same if not worse! I let it power it self down and then charged it 100% and over the course of no phone calls and 3 txt msgs (No GPS/Wifi, no 3g, just edge) in less than 24 hours it had died. At first I thought the battery life was due to me constantly playing with it but I have since given up using the phone if I know I'm going to be away from my charger for more than 3 hours, this is starting to get to me!
So to boil it down, should I wait for froyo or should I try and get a replacement?
Any solutions or advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Before we suggest anything, why dont you check your system status to see what is using your phones battery life. might be that is a good start.

Wow I know exactly what you mean but If you find a solution to this gps thing let me know
Somewhat of a solution, do the GPS fix along with the J16 update. IE use the 'supl.google' server and 'msbased'
With these two "fixes", I get a lock inside the house and even not being near a window, it can place me either in my bedroom or the living room

Alright thank you very much, that did the trick. GPS issue is now once again resolved. But the main one for me right now is these clicking/stuttering sounds when I play/stream music, any ideas on that one?

Data disconnected

Hello all, I am not sure if any one has mantioned this or not. I looked thru the whole Atrix forum and could not find anything. I just got the Atrix about a week ago. I noticed that after using the data for couple of hours (Streaming music) it disconnects and I dont have access to data till I power off for a while and power on again. it is the same story every time I use data for 1 or 2 hours. replaced the phone once already including the SIM card and still the same thing. Any one having the same problem? Please reply. Thanks.
Am I in the right forum? If not, please forgive me, let me know and point me to the right direction? Thanks.
So you lose data completely? No h, e, 3g? Just bars? I had a similar issue on my captivate if I drove around listening to Pandora sometimes it would randomly stop playing till I went to the next song.

Well, I see the H+, but the little arrows (TX/RX) right underneath it disappear and I have no data connection and all this is happening while I'm in the same spot (In my room or at work at my desk). Also a window pops out saying Network Error. Also, I never see E or 3g. It is always H+ even when there is only 1 bar. Is that normal? Here is a picture of it. It just did it to me. Now i have no data connection unless I power down for a while. Here is another Pic. If you notice, there are no Arrows under H+.

It happens to me on data only without wifi on or off. I was just wondering if this was happening to anyone else. I guess no one used the data long enough to see this problem. It looks like this is a Motorola problem and I will have to return the device. Don't want to but don't want to keep a defective device.

Check your Battery Manager -> Battery mode setting. I think by default it's set to Nighttime sleep, which (in theory) shouldn't affect any music streaming or sync apps until night time, but it's possible that the profile is wonky. Try using the performance option or the custom (even though custom warns you of this very same issue).
This issue finally happened to me today.
I think it had to do with Extended Controls widget not correctly enabling/disabling the data apn.
In settings everything was right but I could not get the network even though it was showing the H+.

Hi. If you keep using the data nonstop, you will see that it will happen to you more often. I read some where in a forum that Motorola is having some kind of a power management problem on these devices (Atrix4G & Bionic) where it over heats and effects the RF radio and Motorola is denying it. I am not sure how much of it is true. I can not find that article.
Here. I fond it. Every one, read this.
http://androidcommunity.com/motorol...-suffering-unfixable-power-problems-20110126/
Hey all, Guess what I just found out. After talking to few AT&T tech support about the problem I am having with the device, they transferred me to Motorola tech support. Guess what they told me. The Motorola Atrix 4G is not a 3G device. It is only strictly 4G device. WOW. That sucks. I thought this was E, H & H+ device. That is not what I was told in the AT&T corp. store when I went to purchase it. I was told that it is a 3g/4G device and if there is no 4G network it will drop down to 3G. But I don't think that is the problem. The device is defective. Just now I power off and power back on and it is working fine so far and I don't think we have 4G network in my area.
Update: 03/11/2011 02:13PM PST PDT
Hello all. I am just doing an update. I went and replaced the device one more time (3rd device, 4th SIM card) and it is still the same. It keeps disconnecting from Data every 1 hour or so. I finally called Motorola tech support. The first level tech support could not help me, so he transferred me to second level tech support. The second level tech support told me that they are going to try it on their own devices that they have and call me back the next day. So they did. She called me back the next day and told me that they could not duplicate the problem (of course). So she said she is not going to let it go, she is going to sent it to the engineers to see if they can find out what the problem is and she is going to call me back on Monday 03/14/2011. If they still have no solution for this, I’m going to return the device and reverse my upgrade. It is just a shame that Motorola (being the first in communications) has to get beaten by other Competitors.
any update on the issue? im starting to have the same problem with my atrix.
Unfortunately, this seems to be happening to quite a few people. There's a longer thread on it here:

Nope. Even Motorola Level 2 & 3 Tech support could not resolve the problem. They wanted me to sent the device to them for more trouble shooting. I finally returned the device and reverse my upgrade. I suggest you do the same if haven't past the 30 days.

Problems with the amaze so far...

Here are a few problems I have with the amaze so far...
1) Fluctuating service. I hate this. I will have all the bars showing and then all of a sudden I get no service. What's up with that? The sensation would at least holds two bars at all times. (Oh and no wifi calling!)
2) Overheating issue. This phone gets too hot for no reason. For example I browse for 15 minutes and bam..its really hot. I make sure I exit apps by hitting the back button and my brightness is at 15%. There's no excuse for this.

4) wifi turning off??? I could be on wifi for a good hour and everything is OK, then I turn on the phone again to use it and I'm not connected to wifi anymore. I manually turn wifi on and off to get it to work again.
5) On the bottom in between the menu and back key my amaze has some light leaking through. Its tiny. I didn't notice it until it was completely dark but its there and now I can't help but keep staring at it. I wish I had a camera to take a picture of it.
6) Lastly and the most annoyong thing for me is a clicking sound. When I pick up the phone it sounds like something getting snapped in place. And its almost everytime. Wtf is that. haha.

the no wifi calling thing sucks, will be fixed with root/update so meh
my battery drains about 50% when i'm sleeping, though this may be to mediocre service that goes in and out, going to try and shut mobile network off tonight and see if it fixes the issue
Though I agree with most of the other "problems" ya'll have listed...
I was told by 3 representatives, and one sales person (who sold me the phone) that you have to activate the new sim card included with the device to take advantage of the new wifi-calling that T-Mobile is rolling out (this includes the new GSII on t-mo). - I spoke with so many because none of them could activate the new sim correctly...and were baffled themselves as to why it was so difficult...haha.
Honestly, I havent been able to test wifi calling because the place where I'm renting has never worked with mobile devices, except for apple devices (of course...haha). I may report back here later when i go somewhere else with wifi.
Just wanted to pass on some info I was told by 4 separate people - they all claimed that's what a memo showed on their system when they pull up the AMAZE and GSII.
I come from a mytouch 4g, i have the same issue, suddenly i have no service then it's back on again. Never had that with the mytouch...
Well, I have had mine since launch day. I have a little but not much light bleed. I have had no heating issues. Last night out at bars I saw the signal issue. One sec I could speed test and pull down 14. Then I would notice no 4G symbol, try to speed test again and it would say no signal. Still love it though, nice and fast!!
My buttons light up when it's dark, but not when it's light. Is there anyway to turn this light sensor off and keep these lights on so I can see my home, menu etc buttons?

Definately seems there is a (buttons) light sensor, they do basically stay on at night, not in daytime.
Prolly see some update/option to this in the future, keep em' on or leave to the sensor.

The sim is not controlling the software, but it can affect what information is communicated with t-mobile.
I don't know what you mean by you don't have this feature. Among other ways to activate the hotspot capability, you should find the "Wi-Fi Hotspot" app on the device.
Just to repeat/clarify my original statement/post: The Amaze 4G and the GS II (according to others) allow you to activate the wifi hotspot feature, have your other wifi-enabled devices connect to your phone, but when you try to access the internet with those wifi-enabled devices, you are prompted to upgrade your plan to include the $15/mo. plan.
I hope this is clear to all.
Te whole service popping in and out is starting to drive me nuts!!!! 3 bars of 4g then nthing! 1 bar of 4g then it turns into 2 bars of 2g! WTH!?!?!? Never had soo many reception issues on ANY of my Tmo phones!
Dosent seem to matter where I am when this happens as it happens often, far too often!
I have to assume that of all the connection point inside the back cover of the phone at least ONE of them is some sort of antenna?????
Cmon Tmo?!?!?
Even if it does warm up, I doubt that you will feel it if you put it in a case. Unless the phone is burning up..then yeah.
I am coming from a HTC sensation 4G and it had WiFi calling and WiFi hotspot feature.
The manual that comes with the amaze shows how to use WiFi calling also the one on HTC's site,
If I could put the sensation Rom on the amaze I would be happy as the sensation had what I want working,
I love the feel of the Amaze it feels much more masculine and fits nice in my big hands I find my self not mistakenly touching the softkey's as much.
Also I can seem to figure out where 4gb or the Rom is as it shows only 9gb for storage and 2gb for something else
On another note I have seen a post that shows an Amaze with WiFi calling, the had an earlier firmware,

I'm probably going to get flamed for this, but you guys can probably still exchange the Amaze for the SGS2. I'm really not having any of the problems described here. It dropped the GPS once yesterday... that's about it so far.

why would you get flamed. only 99% of the people on this site know more about the devices theyre holding and things their carrier offers to them then the actual employees, one of the most known things probably being the grace period you have to return/swap out your phone if you want... noooo, no reason to be flamed.

To those who are experiencing issues with the Amaze especially after returning it a million times before buyers remorse is up, I recommend testing out the GS2 aka Hercules. Other than the resolution this phone is really great. The resolution isn't that noticeable unless you have OCD.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I jumped ship to the GSII. So far I'm happier. The amaze does have more bells and whistles but it was a bit heavy for me and the GS II has got - not substantially - but improved battery life and a more visually appealing screen. Also my eyes aren't great, so I actually appreciate the lower resolution screen which keeps the icons bigger. I can see the pixels easier than on the qhd of the amaze, but i have to be "looking for them" to really notice.
Some people are having better luck with their Amaze so just like a ton of other companies out there these days...there's a big quality control issue.
Looking service is really getting on my nerves now and i dont like this any more. Wonder if there will a fix for this from HTC or Tmobile

GPS Problem? But is there really?

Hi all
Theres alot of talk about GPS problems with this device.
Im a Navigational Officer with a marine survey company and GPS troubleshooting is in my day to day line of work.
The biggest problem i have with new units is well theyre built in Asia and then these units get shipped over to the USA and Europe. So when they first get turned on they are expecting a satalitte geometry for Asia.
These means it can take a long long time for devices to get a lock. Once it gets it though future times you use the device should be nice and quick an easy. Now the equimpment im using is completely different to the Tranformer Prime but the stuff i use is worth millions of millions of dollars. So its safe to say if it can take up to several hours for a first time lock to occure with a million dollar piece of gps equipment how long will it take for a tablet? Most of the time i have to reprogram the card and tell it its at a certain lat long this reduces first time start up to maybe 40-50 minutes before it gets a good strong signal. So bare that in mind when your saying GPS isnt working with the device have you really tested it?
Now i dont have my Transformer Prime yet ( preordered through amazon uk) and when i do there will be a extensive test done on wifi and GPS and some tweaking to improve them best i can. But here are some suggestions you might consider.
1. WIFI - yes turn your wifi . Yes i know this sounds stupid but it helps the tablet find itself that first time it tells it ohh im in this country and i need to look for this. Do this several times then turn your Wifi off and try GPS on its own.
2. Leave it alone - I know its hard to do but just turn your GPS on and then just leave it dont move it touch it play with it. Just let it find itself and the satalittes. After finding itself a few times it will become quicker.
3. Wait for Update - Im in not doubt that a good firmware update will fix this problem in the future even with masking from the aluminium shell of the transformer its still going to be able to get a GPS lock even if its just a handfull of sats and technially you only need 4. With a new firmware it will allow the device to find itself a little better. I do it in work all the time reprogram for different regions.
I hope this helps anyone. But the end of the day GPS isnt instant guys. Tom Tom and Garmin have made it look easy the end of the day but thats with the programing of the units in advanced that allows for fast geometry fixes. Just be patient.

great post. I know I haven't really really tested mines because I got impatient after a couple mins..lol plus never really took prime outside yet. thanks for the info. patience is a virtue.
tomorrow im going to cold boot from airplane mode, let it sit outside for like 30 minutes in navigation and see what happens

Nice summary. I think the amount everyone here has learned about the workings of GPS is college equivelent. But other tablets don't require any priming or special conditions to work. They just do. And that includes Asus' own TF1 and Slider.
Quite true other devices dont have the same problem you are right. But you have to remmber Asus have rushed this tablet out on the Market so to beat the competition. The firmware might not be as up to date as they may like and some nessicary tweaks may need to be in order. Im sure Asus main concern are other areas of the tablet like getting it to power up and run. GPS fixes are more secondary.
I could be wrong and there could be a defect with the tablets ( i hope there arnt any problems) but im hopeing with new updates sat tracking and lock will become much quicker.
While waiting for Prime, I upgraded my OG Droid to Samsung Galaxy Nexus. No GPS issues. And compared the TF Prime to my wife's Samsung 10.1 Tab. No GPS issues.
Couple that with Asus Rep from TF1, and I expected better. Disappointed in GPS perf.

People have tested it with an external Bluetooth receiver and it works well. If it was a general s/w issue I'd imagine it wouldn't. And remember, it's the OS that talks to the GPS chip not s/w that Asus had/has to develop on thier own. The chip itself is made by Broadcom and is similar to what's in the G-Tab and TF1 so there's nothing unique about the Prime compared to other HC devices (GPS wise).
as we speak my tablet was put into airplane mode i did a reboot now it is sitting in my window and running gps test looking for satellite not going to touch until 930 and see if we find anything
Fare enough put in my place hahaha. Well they are only suggestions with what ive observed with other GPS equipment. Truth be told im not familiar with Mobile and Tablet GPS, more of the high end gps surveys stuff. Thanks for the input
Good luck, It may or may not work but just thought id over some ideas for what ive observed in work

What you added was great - I didn't mean to seem negative. You're kind of coming in to the play in the fourth act. If you like GPS related stuff there's some really good info starting around page 33 on the big-ass GPS thread with the poll attached.

fishbowl_00,
Great thinking, but once you get your prime you may have a different line of thought. I've been testing mine for days, using every conceivable configuration imaginable. I've been using GPS since it was released during the LORAN days and have never seen anything this weak!
Mine can usually get a fix outside with a good view of the sky. I even got it to lock on indoors a few times. The problem is it can't hold the lock. Sitting in the same position it will suddenly lose all eight or twelve satellites for no apparent reason and then slowly start searching and maybe finding them again after several minutes. The signals are always marginal. Driving around I can usually get a lock some of the time, if I hold the prime up to the window. Then for no reason it will show me driving out through the forest and then get lost! This is not a one time thing. It happens over and over again.
After several emails to Asus tech, I've been told everything to "it must have a Wi-Fi connection for GPS to work" to "meantime please try to use Google Maps app from the main menu by tapping APPS -> then MAPS icon, please check if your 'current location' is displaying correctly. If not I would suggest to have it exchanged with your place of purchase or you may proceed with a RMA service to have the issue corrected."
Now this morning, Asus has said "Please note that this product is not a professional GPS device and signal performance can be easily influenced by factors including, but not limited to: weather, buildings and your surrounding environment." Never mind that the other tablets and cheap receivers on the market aren't professional GPS devices either, but seem to operate without these problems.
The last straw was when then removed GPS from their specs online this morning on their website. Seems they think that if they pretend it isn't there no one can complain! After all *specifications are subject to change without notice.
Sorry if I sound a little bitter, but I've had it with Asus.
My test airplane mode on, reboot, open gps test, let sit for 30 minutes
Update 1: 10 minutes in we have a really cold prime from sitting in a window on a 20 degree night but we have zero satellites
Update 2: 20 minutes in the prime is now even colder and still zero satellites only 10 minutes left and we will see what happens
Update 3: tablet dropped to 61.7 degrees wow its freeezing but still no lock on gps my test is complete GPS = FAIL

Tell me about it...
People do not turn on your Wifi to test your GPS its a decoy. When you do this of course it will work because Google maps uses Wifi location as well this would just patch it.
If you really want to test the OP theory of the Asia region that is easy, we need some one with ROOT to download a GPS neuter app from the market. When running you can uninstall the current config and download the GPS data.
I would have done this myself but I do not have root with the firmware I received.
Can someone confirm with ROOT?

Is there somewhere outside it can get a clear view of the southerly sky? It should lock then because other's have gotten it to.

i recommend that u use gps status with wifi turned on to find satellites for the first time. it worked for me. will take 10+ mins. once u get a lock, next time is easier. also try this outdoors in open area and not from window sil

Maybe they installed the Eastern hemisphere GPS chip instead of the Western one.

And as soon as your Prime changes location and/or can't access Wi-Fi it will lose lock and not be able to reacquire satellites. For people that only need GPS when they have access to Wi-Fi this really isn't that big an issue. Mapping and navigation while moving (without a wireless signal) is pretty much impossible.

My LTE Evo is useless?! List of Woes:

Alright, so as a techie, I understand that software can be buggy. I understand that updates fix and improve things over time, but sometimes do the opposite. I understand that I should put up with the occasional reboot. However, I DO NOT understand why the hell I cannot use my phone. I am tired, I am pissed, and I have exhausted the thought of how much I regret trading in my evo 3D. Yes, the LTE Evo has a lot of RAW power, but what good is that if I cannot freaking use it?
So, *ahem*, after my angry rant, here is what has been going on with my phone (and getting increasingly worse) for the last month:
4G my a$$ - I live in Houston, one of the the first markets that was supposed to get 4G. The Wimax network, which was aleady spotty, is still a lot more present in Houston than the so called Sprint LTE deployment. Look, I am a patient guy, but when my 3g speeds cannot go past DIAL UP then we have a big problem. Am I seriously paying 230 dollars a month so that four smartphones have DIAL UP speeds? Cmon, Sprint!!
People (HTC stock app) - it does not work. every once in a while, it will start working, but for the past month, I can only dial numbers on my call history. The problem? When I open the app and search through contacts, everything is dandy. But when I click on a contact, I get a black screen. It is a screen where the top notification bar still shows, and the latter still responds, but right below it is just dark. If i click home button, it does go back to home. However, clearing the cache, rebooting, etc, does nothing to get the app working. That's right. Reboot does not work.
Google Play - It ALSO does not work. So you can kinda search through it up until the point I click on an app. At that point, the whole thing freezes and my only choice is to exit out by pressing the home button. Moreover, reboot also does NOT work.
Gmail app. - Please see the last two points. Exact same problem. Except this time, when you click it to open the app, it simply takes me to a white screen. And that's it. Reboot also does NOT work, nor does clearing cache, etc.
:
So, am I alone in this? I do not know what to think. Since around 2008-9ish, when I first got an Android phone, I have never hated a device so much in my life. The worst part is, it used to work. And then it used to heat up a lot. And then right after a meaningful vacation with my wife, it had a sudden death (the screen literally went off when I was using it, never to turn on again. And according to my forum research, I was not the only one who suffered this "sudden death syndrome") losing all my pictures. And then Best buy black tie's thingie got me a new one, which is the one I have now...with a gazillion problems. Thoughts, or recommendations?

I never stick with stock roms. I always unlock/root my phones so I can get the best experience. Haven't had ANY of the problems you listed except LTE, but you can't do much about that until the towers are updated/upgraded.
I am alright with 2,3 and 4 and not worried.
I totally agree with you on # 1 ! Man, I just hate my new phone right now. I can get LTE speed here, BUT .. it does not hang onto the signal. Even when I am a few blocks of the tower ! Sprint or HTC have to adjust the treshole.
I was so happy with my 3D. I was able to Skpye w my relatives even when I was inside a room bc the 4G (not LTE) was great!
I do understand about paying $280 for 4 lines at dial up speed!
Right now I am frustrated of Sprint lying to us. 5 cities are ready for LTE, yet the deployment is only 20% complete !!!
The issues you list could all be related to network vision upgrades....
Have you tried switching the phone from lte/cdma to cdma only?
There are areas in Dallas that I have to do that in. Speeds went from horrible to avg .8 mb down and .6 up
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
I think its time for a replacement ..only issue I have is the multitasking
All of those problems seem fixable by clearing data and the likes. the only real issue is the LTE.
Im in KC. At my house on the eastern side of the city I get solid LTE service as of sometime last week or so. Haven't run a speedtest under 8mbps down. Look at the phone, LTE is always there.
Then I drive to work. Not 2 miles from sprint headquarters. 3g is abysmal. I can get 4g if i stand in the right spot outside. Nothing inside though. And when I see that LTE I don't pull more then 1.5mbps down. All part of the upgrade process.
Once you get it the phone becomes a whole new beast. And first run cities are supposed to be totally completed by what? December.. At least in KC.
So the reason your signal is such crap just means that your LTE is coming. Once it does, it's worth it.
Don't have any of your probs except the gmail prob. Seems to happen when its downloading mail and switches from 3g to 4g. Clearing gmail ussually solves it, once I had to login into gmail on my pc and delete the last email, everything worked after that. Not sure what it was about that email...

Ha! My wife's iphone is just as useless as my EVO. Please...
Alright so it seems most of you do not have the problem that I have with the apps having white screen of death, so I keeo being told it is a multitasking problem.. i have already cleared cache and all that, killing apps with task killer, rebooting, etc, but that did not do anything. In which other ways I can solve the mukltitasking issue?

You can't, short of installing an AOSP ROM.

By the time Sprint finish deploying their 5 cities in December to 100%, in another few months after that, another new model of LTE is OUT!
So what do you get out of these LTE phones that are out now ??????????????????????????
Can you see this ?
Mine has been doing this too, a reboot and wiping your dalvik-cache should fix it for awhile.
As for the network speed though, that you'll just need to call and yell at sprint about.
I'm bummed about the speeds so far (in Chicago). I seemed to have better speeds with my Evo 4G (3g service mind you, obviously WiMax will be better than the LTE)
I rooted and lazy pandy s-off immediately. However I just loaded a custom rom after 3 weeks of use (was happy for the most part with stock). Loaded Meanrom ICS and I'm very happy with it. Small bug here and there but definitely glad I did. No major issues plus you get quick settings and a working google wallet plus other things.
Try a different custom rom, it may solve your os/ui-related woes
