Black or White? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Good day to all!
Is there any difference between black and white sgs2? I mean the performance and built quality of the display and camera module? Or its only the color?
Because some say that white one comes whit worse hardware..
Thanks.

No difference. Anyone who says there is doesn't know what they're talking about.

Pink or limited edtion Silver..
The reason some may say white has the worst hardware is they may of got hold of a I9100M , I9100G or I9100T etc...or a fake which there are many flying around these days....
On the plus side for the black it has better grip and not so easy to discolor unlike the white version...

Yupp Thats the reason..
I9100 Is always same only color is different

What's wrong with the 9100M?
It's identical to international version. M just denotes Canada.
Get a white and put a matte black case on it.
The contrast is beautiful!

My case is slightly different but you get the point about the contrast being super sexy!

[Q]Should I change to the Xperia S From One X?

Hey guys,
Had the One X for two weeks. The screen in particular is really sharp and nice. Though it uses tegra 3, the amount of lag can still be seen.. and the battery really sucks. Rooted and custom roms doesnt solve all this so...
Have any of you guys used both and can comment if its worth the trade?(Have a friend that wants to trade). I really like Sony and its software optimisations (have the tablet s and used a arc previously )
Please share some opinions on this.
Thanks
Most of us have yellow tint. So if yellow tint isn't an issue for you... then no one is stopping you . LOL.
You should change to Xperia S like i did. I'm regret to buy one X. My Xperia S never have any yellow tint issue, just perfect

It's not most of us, its 50/50 of the registered users on the forum...
I still have my 12w8 phone, and my partner as well, and we have no sign of yellow tint (both phones above 40 multiple times)
It's pretty much a lottery if you get the yellow tint, but if you do (unless you order the phone from ebay or so) you can get it fixed/replaced.
The signs can vary, to a light blotch to rather large. Sony has in most countries acknowledged the problem, and will fix it under warranty.
Anyways, in the screen problem thread, there's info with pictures around. It seems to not be limited by batch number, and the problems vary between the devices.
I highly highly doubt it's 50% of the phones in current rotation thru out the world, the One X has this issue also, more likely its as Sony has stated a small percentage that has this screen glitch which u can take back for a clean swap.
This can affected nearly all phones.
Cant really comment on the battery performance of the One X but the screen lag happens in all phones, more then likely future roms will lesson the signs of any lag as they experiment with it more, why not give the phone a few months u haven't had it anywhere near long enough to make these kinds of judgments imo.
The Xperia S and One X are great phones, top of the line and brand new.
No screen issues on my XPS 12w9 version here.

that's why i said "Registered users on the forum"
There was a poll done on the forum and it was about 50%, and yea I agree, it isn't anywhere near a majority.
I believe Sony even said it was a small percentage, and it could even be that the percentage on the forum is about the only people experiencing it or even noticing it who knows.
I don't know about others, but I will consider to be most unlucky with this yellow tint case. I'm having my third replacement with yellow tint yet again. Now I'm waiting for parts (LCD Screen) to fix this issue.
@OP, my current phone and my first phone only had the tint at the bottom (as all the users out there who have this issue), but my second phone was the worse with yellow tint at the sides and top right corner as well.
I don't have a One X so I can't comment on that
If hardware specification ( which is crazy for a phone ) , maybe camera and HTC sense is important for you , don't switch.
But anything else , Xperia wins . The reception(signal) , GPS , screen , sound ( however you will have to play around a bit with the eq) , user-friendliness ( that depends, for me , a LED notification light, the timescape, and the Xperia UI is something i cannot live without) and of course developer support ( which HTC locks its bootloader, and rooting your device will still void your warranty if i am not wrong. Sony doesn't, they will just restore it back ... ) .
But hardware specification still matters to a lot, people have the mentality that quad-core on a phone is so very essential ...

ROMs will make a difference but HTC themselves thinks that the battery is normal. This is what turns me off.. future updates may or may not improve battery unlike the Xperia which I heard has updates to improve battery.
I guess I will go to the store to see the yellow tint and compare both..

I think One uses 5th core 2 operate a phone. tegra runs in a stress, I guess...
I used both for a week or two extensively and ended selling both. One X felt too huge, boring look, Sense belongs to Windows Mobile 6.5 world. While there are ways to make it faster and smoother with other launchers and ROMs, i prefer the stock to be one of the best options like Xperia.
Xperia S felt too long than it needs to be for its screen size, too thick, Capacitive buttons that need practice to get right, and the cover to USB port is meaningless.
Waiting for Xperia P even though the dimensions are again too big for 4"screen. I just love/prefer Sony designs and UI.

Xperia S is a way faster then One X and less battery cosumption.
To prove that, watch on youtube Xperia S VS HTC One X.
Camera is faster on sxs, browsing is faster on sxs (just to mention we still dont have ICS)
which improve this to things a LOT.
Yellow tint issue
Guys, what i noticed about the yellow tint issue. If you have a device from 12W11 and higher, you won't have the yellow tint issue. Most devices beneath have that issue ****.
If you open your batterycover you'll see an number. for example 12w09 you will most chance of a yellow tinted screen

i had a xps from batch 12w12 - yellow tint at the bottom and the top corners. i think at the end of the day its like a coin flip, you either get the tint or not. still waiting on my replacement.
I have the Xperia S and my girlfriend has the One X.
Both great phones, but i'm a tiny bit disappointed by the One X
I don't know if it's because of Sense or because of the optimization from HTC.
But it feels like the One X has more lag and stutters than the Xperia S.
Xperia S is always so smooth, it almost never lags or stutters in any way.
And imo the Xperia S has great batterylife for such a powerfull phone.
Sony will replace if you get the yellow tint problem.. Don't worry about that.. I know a couple of people who had both and have both sold the HTC.. Can't go wrong with the Sony.. Quad core seems to add nothing.. and kills the battery!

well i would suggest u first check what u want in a device... if u want a brilliant screen great camera and dont worry too much about "tons of custom roms" then the obvious choice is Xperia S...
what are u looking for in the device?

GALAXY NOTE vs HTC ONE X (HD VIDEO)

Hi Guys,

The one x was brighter bro but the notes got better blacks
Was wondering how the GPSs was on both phones. HTC is well-known for having great antennas in their phones whereas the Note (as well as GS2) have questionable GPS(but still better than GS1). Thoughts? How is the headphone audio for both phones? Which ones louder, better quality or both are relatively the same?
So far, you've nailed a lot more topics than expected. Those are 2 I actively look for in phones so some clarification would be appreciated.

And what about the COLOUR SATURATION and CONTRAST?Does the onex looks like WASHED out when compared to note like all other ips panels?
I am really in a big problem of buying a phone, and My preference is not colour accuracy, what i want is the awesome contrast and the poping colours of amoled.Thats why i am a bit inclind towards the note and also its BIG screen! !
Heres a link:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606636
On the above link the screen of onex looks more saturated than note
How is this possible that too to a ips panel?
I heard a lot abot its pentile, resolution isnt what should a 720p should show blah blah,,,,does it affect that much?My uses will be gaming, watching videos, browsing etc but NOTMUCH ebook reading.
BTW me too from india
I think the size of the screen of G Note makes the difference! For better I mean

GPS - Sorry bro, havent checked really so no idea on that and my htc is in the service centre so I cant check it now
Headphones - With bt headsets the HTC is of better quality (by a very thin margin) but as far as volume goes both are almost equal, I cant tell the difference as to which ones louder...
Hope I helped bro

I know on paper the full rgb of the htc is superior to the note but I dont find the note inferior in anyway and for movies and games the true blacks of amoled just makes everything pop and I love it... the one x is amazing outdoors, the whites are better... its definitely a brighter screen.... (Q) Questions re galaxy s3 prior to purchase - upgrading from note

I am thinking of upgrading from my note to the s3 as ive had enough of the laggy ics releases (its that bad im back on gb)
I have a couple of questions if you can help prior to ensure im not going from one pig in a poke to another.
1. Does the ics on s3 run smoothly?
2. How good is the camera? is there any pink spots like on the note?
3. Is the screen as good as it looks? i have a little banding on my note is this the case on the s3? also do black backgrounds look black or grey?
4. Will i regret it?
5. Is there any downsides to the phone / firmware?
6. Does the voice software work as its advertised unlike siri?
Just to let u know whilst i love the note i dont use the pen so ik not gonna miss that also the size of the screen there isnt that much difference so i can live with it
Thanks in advance

Well, I upgraded from a Note and I have never looked back...
I will try to answer your questions:
1. Yes, it runs very smooth, much smoother than the Note..
2. The camera in itself is just as good (or bad) as the one of the Note, but the S3 has much better camera software (instant shoot option, etc.) and therefore you will most likely get better pictures. Unfortunately occasionally you will still see pink spots.
3. The screen is really much, much better. No black crush problems and only minor banding.
4. I guess most people wouldn't regret to upgrade to the S3 from the Note as the S3 has so many advantages over the Note (for instance the S3 also has much better audio quality, longer lasting battery, better touch screen sensitivity, RGB-LED, NFC, ...). But of course, the screen is smaller and there is no stylus. So you might miss this nice 'small tablet feeling' that you can have with the Note.
5. Downsides? Well, honestly I haven't noticed any major downsides yet. Maybe one downside is that it feels quite slippery, like a peace of soap, in the hand. But you just have to put a nice rubberized case on it to fix that little problem.
6. Don't know how the voice software works. Have never tested it and do honestly regard it as a useless gimmick.

1 yes the ics on my sgs 3 runs as smooth as butter. I hav my phone since a week now and I have never experienced lag.
2 The camera quality is good. No pink spots.
3 The screen is absolutely gorgeous. You will never notice it is Pentile.
4 hmm that depends.. the SGS3 is definitely more future proof than the note.. it depends on how badly you want the SGS3.
5 Even though there might be a few software glitches.. I'm sure Samsung will release fixes through firmware asap! Btw the blue SGS3 has pink tints in some devices. I have a white model. No tint in mine.
6 As far as s voice is concerned.. I feel it could be a lot better. Hard to pick between the two. Siri is still in beta!
Hope this helped

1. Yes, very smooth.
2. OK, nothing mind-blowing. No pink spots for me, others have reported them.
3. Excellent screen for video playback. Colours are a tad oversaturated, whites are never really white, but I don't mind that.Banding very visible when scrolling through settings etc. Blacks are very, very, very black.
4. No.
5. Opinions will differ. Audio quality for recorded video is rubbish, slight lag when pressing the home button are the only two I've really noticed, but they don't worry me. Edit - redraws/reloading of icons with TW. Various fixes have been posted. I use ssLauncher, runs perfectly.
6. No, S-voice is about as reliable as Siri for me - i.e., not very.
The s3 is a nice phone, the note is more of a tablet. I upgraded from the note also. I really miss the big screen but the lack of black crush is a major plus.
The S3 is as smooth as possible so I don't regret the upgrade.

thanks but i actually tried blue
the black one looks more sexy then blue one
plus you dont know maybe samsung will add more STORAGE maybe 64GB galaxy S3 or more core 1.5 GHz or more 2GB ram like the US version of Galaxy S3

Which colour

I'm trying to decide between the rose blush or the mountain grey. It's had to pre order without seeing the colour.
I thought the rose blush would be different just hoping it's not too pink and more like a rose gold colour. Can't decide.
I'm planning on ordering the cloud blue.
I went with the 256GB rose blush in the end we didn't get the cloud blue option in Ireland. Placed delivery expected before September 4th

It's open is Europe and Middle East.
You can find a good deal @ clove.co.uk
I did chose the cloud blue too. Hoping it will look as good as the official shots
Not related to your original question, but do you know which processor will it be : Exynos or the Qualcom Snapdragon 855?
In France, it looks like it will be an Exynos version (got it almost confirmed with Samsung support).
Not too stocked about that since the Snapdragon seem a little better overall...
I'm trying to decide between Cloud Blue and Mountain Grey. I think I'll go with Grey, simply because that's the only color available for the keyboard case during preorders.
I really like the blue, but I also think the grey will look more professional.
I've gone with the grey and don't regret it. Looks very smart in person
I went with Rose blush as a change from the usual black and grey and I'm very please with it

Have any pics of the rose blush? I'm curious what it looks like in person.
