Emulator gaming - Wildfire Themes and Apps

We all know Wildfire is a bit (lot) on the slow side, but, surprisingly I was able to play and complete several PS1 games on it, yes 3D games, on Wildfire!
So far I played:
Playstation 1 (FPse):
*Gran Turismo 1 - played nicely, was able to win few races in simulation mode (if you played GT1, you know AI is a bit hard, even more in US and japanese versions). I'm big GT fan so I don't enjoy it if it isn't on wheel or joystick (got PS3 only for GT5 ).
*Resident Evil 1/2 - completed, very nice gameplay.
*Metal Gear Solid - stuck on electricity torture after defeating Sniper Wolf (can't press the button fast enough, but, no big deal, I completed the game 10ish times), nice gameplay overall.
*Tekken 2 - works fine, smooth.
*Twisted Metal 2 - nice gameplay.
*Few other games.
Super Nintendo (SNESoid):
*Mortal Kombat # - No problem, smooth, fun, got my a** kicked, though.
*A lot of other games, all played smooth.
Gameboy Advance (GameBoid):
*Pokemon: Fire Red Version - best game ever , playing it currently, smooth gameplay.
Note: Games were played on CM7/RemPuzzle Lite, clocked at: 528-748 MHz with ondemand governor (PS1) and 352-691 MHz, again, ondemand governor (SNES, GBA).
So, did you play any game? If you did, share it!

Gameboy Advance:
Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
Castlevania: Harmony Of Dissonanace
Pokemon Emerald
Zelda: a Link to the Past
I have also tried Need for Spped Carbon for the GBA, but it's really laggy once you try to use multitouch (multiple controls at once)

Are you running overclocked or stock?

Wow blast from the past. This was the whole reason I rooted my phone to start with back in the day,so I could o/c and kick ass on tekken3. No place on my phone anymore for games but loved that period/phase I went through.
Fspe served me well, but I think it was a little awkward to understand at first if I remember right.
Sorry ramble over.lol
Tekken 1,2,3
Hogs of war
Lots of others but can't remember.
it made sense in my head !!!

I played tiger snes/ GBA. sound is so laggy; have to turn off the sound ?
I also clock to 328- 729. on demand. it's doesn't help.

Hey Can anyone advice...how to activate and where to download these emulator games...

1. Download the emulator application, e.g. GameBoid.apk is for Game Boy Advance
2. Download the BIOS (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS), to simplify, the thing that makes the emulator application think your phone is a Game Boy Advance, Playstation or whatever.
3. Dowload the actual game and enjoy
I cant supply you with links because this is kinda considered warez, but i will send you everything in PM if youre interested.

how are we suppose to download and install BIOS?

Well, only some emulators require special bios, those do "heavy" emulation, simply, if you want to play game boy advance, google gba bios, it should be in .bin format. Download it and copy to sd card, then, start the emulator application and it will ask you to locate bios, just navigate to the .bin file and select it, done.

one question...
Is there any Android nintendo DS emulator? if exists, how is named, and how can i use it? thx

Thanks

it seems like wildfire can handle every gba/snes/genesis game, but on fpse:
diablo - laggy
tomba - laggy
harvest moon - found running good at 50 fps, lol
medievil - laggy still, sometimes is playable..
Chrono Cross - laggy
CM7 build 57, 652-768 mhz on smartass, is really there anything to improve gaming perfomance on this device?

FPSe on the wildfire with no gpu? How is that even possible! Is it all software rendered?

I tried FPse emulator, I tried both Resident evil and Gran Turismo 1.........
I faced problems on both games.......
I have the Digital controls set, But On resident evil i couldn't attack the zombie, I pressed all the keys but no use...... On gran turismo, I couldn't get the car to run, Which key to use.
And Can we use the touch panel to control the games, It would be awesome.
And what other games can you play on it.... Please help

i dont know what could be the problem, when i was playing all touch keys worked just fine, you should disable the sound im fpse though because sound is performance killer. id try different version of fpse first, then try to fix it if it doesnt work.

Oh I can drive the car on Gran Turismo,.... It was because the Gsensor driving was on, so it drove backward when I pressed the key........ Everything else works good.
They say you have to press the R1 to aim and X to fire.... but it only works sometimes.
so I can't use a knife on resident evil, and on landscape there is no R1, R2, L1, L2, how to fix that?

I'm running both 64oid & snesoid on my Uk flipout. 64oid has some sound issues but most roms run ok (using setcpu to boost gaming). Snesoid also has some sound issues but on the whole both run fairly well ...
Lets not forget that both of these emulators & others are still "work in progress" so we can expect some significant improvements in rom execution & hardware compatibilty in the future...

Which games did you try on the N64oid? It will be great if you try Zelda OoT.
i tried psx4droid but the only game i can get to run smooth enuff to play
is yu-gi-oh forbidden memories
sound gets destroyed
animations get abit choppy
I use NESoid to play:
Mario
Krion Conquest
Felix the Cat
Kirby's Adventure
all of those work fine, with a less than occasional audio stutter.
as for the input settings:
im using up, down, left, right with the Dpad
the A-button is J and the B-button is H
return/enter is my start and delete/backspace is my select
I played fpse it's a psx emulator and it worked pretty well, I was playing final fantasy 8 on that emulator, the downpoint was that the screen is a little bit too small for that... gameboid works perfectly

Fpse works on Wildfire (PS1 emulator)

I just downloaded FPse emulator for android and it is working with Wildfire as well.
Tried with Tekken 3, it works, slow, but works. May be I need to overclock a little more (currently 710MHz) to make it work reasonably.
Anyone else tried and which game working smoothly ?
EDIT: O.K. With CM7 RC1 installed without google apps, JIT enabled, overclocked @768MHz and only FPse PS1 emulator app with 15 fps skip setting (for android) installed (trying to simulate gaming ROM for HTC Wildfire), the following games are tested and found satisfactory run:
1. Tekken - found running O.K.
2. Tekken 3 - found a little slow (but playable)
3. Gran Turismo - found playable
4. Digimon world - To be tested (as reported by ms_green)
5. Moto Racer - Full Speed with sound (After enabling boost mode)
6. Final Fantasy VII - Full Speed with sound
7. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater - Full Speed with sound
8. Quake II - Full Speed with sound
9. Tenchu - Stealth Assassins - Playable with sound
10. Mortal Kombat 4 - Full Speed with sound
11. Moto Racer 2 - Full Speed with sound (After enabling boost mode)
12. Moto Racer World Tour - Playable
13. Mortal Kombat 4 - very smooth (40-50 fps) as reported by @Was3k
14. Pro Evolution Soccer - playable (20-25 fps) as reported by @Was3k
15. Mortal Kombat Trilogy - very smooth as reported by @karl23koch
16. Motorhead - playable (30 fps with JIT enabled, @730MHz, sound OFF & boost mode)
17. Metal Slug X - very much playable @40 fps as reported by @ziemjak
Additionally, switch to Airplane mode and enable Boost Mode from system.
I'll add the games in above list as I test them.
Note: Only one mode can be enabled at a time, either HLE or Bios mode (if HLE is not selected, it is bios mode) and in bios mode only, Boost Mode can be enabled.

I have done few steps which makes FPse play faster:
- fresh Installation of CM7 RC1 without Gapps
- Only installed two additional apps: FPse (obviously) and SetCPU for overclocking (@768 MHz)
- Enabled JIT
- Stopped all background processes and put in Airplane mode
and in Fpse settings, set frameskip to 15 fps.
With above changes, I think, FPse is working fine for Tekken 3 (not very fast, but good).
Can anyone suggest what more can be done to speed up the games ?
I think we can have a CUSTOM ROM for wildfire only for gaming without any features like phone, message, google services, etc, etc, then only, Wildfire will be able to play PS1 games smoothly.
Anyway, I will test additional games on FPse and put the result here.
I think this is the best place to requiest a good gaming ROM for wildfire:
Anyone can produce CUSTOM ROM for Wildfire for GAMING only ?

If you're wanting to go to all that effort then why don't you buy a cheaper android mp3 player that has a GPU something like one of the archos ones, you can get them now for around £100 (roughly $150)
Such a Rom already exists. CM7 without gapps in airplane mode.
There's hardly any point of making a gaming Rom separately because it would hardly do much to speed up games. The wildfire suffers mainly because it lacks hardware, which can't be fixed by a rom.
Edit : I don't think most wildfire users bought it for gaming anyway. There are better phones for that.

I agree with you on that even when I purchased HTC Wildfire, I never thought it will be ever playing PS1 games. I tried PSX4DROID earlier, but it did not work for me.
As Fpse developer mentioned, he has made this even for ArmV6, which is wildfire CPU.
The point is, since I already have Wildfire now (I know I should have purchased high-end phone with double the cost of wildfire), and PS1 emulator is available for it, why not to get few games which can play decently on it. I think, the low graphic requirement games will play decently on it.
I tried Tekken, and it is playing decently, and as I mentioned earlier, Tekken 3 is playing a little bit slow (with frameskip 20), but still playable.
Edit: I think I may buy it on next payday, I would like to try out some turn based classics like Kartia.
Tekken isn't exactly low end.. its 3D... bad 3d I know lol but the geometry is all done via software on our crappy CPU. Try a 2D game. And RTFM, apparently you can tweak the configuration for better performance. Alas it is only a new emulator, maybe the dev's can future optimize the 3d software emu in time.
I'm curious though... how the heck can you put up with real-time gaming with all the buttons PSX has?!? I have a hard enough time playing Super Mario World on SNES with this touchscreen... its impossible! Though I guess a fighter game wouldn't be as twitchy hey lol

Hey, the newest version has an option to disable sound to get better fps. That will help wildfire users as well I guess.
Oh and about the touchscreen controls: you can map controls to hardware buttons like search and back.

Thanks ms_green for the info.
I confirm, with the latest FPse with sound disabled, the games are running a little bit more faster.
I tried this with Tekken 3 and also with Moto Racer, both are playable now.
There is another thing I noticed:
In some games, turning on boost mode makes a huge difference...(tony hawk 2 from 30 to around 45 fps) however it might break other games...(controls in ridge racer stop working)
To enable it, load the game and then go to settings, system.

@ms_green,
I am unable to enable boost mode, it says "IN BIOS MODE ONLY".
Can you please tell me how to enter in BIOS MODE ?
Get a PSX BIOS file and set it in the emu settings. Don't ask for a BIOS here, because that's piracy.
Thanks for the tip about boost mode. Yeah, I'm quite surprised by the performance! Legend of Kartia runs great, next I will try Alundra... so many good RPG and RTS games on PSX...

Just to avoid confusion: a BIOS file should look like this: SCPHxxxx.bin
Instead of xxxx there are 4 numbers. So you need such a file and then choose its location in system settings.

I figured it out. In System Preferences, I had enabled HLE mode and was trying to enable Boost mode as well. If HLE mode is enabled, Boost mode cannot be enabled.
@ms_green:
Where can I enable FPS to be visible on screen ?
Yes indeed, HLE = High Level Emulation, which is what you use to ignore the BIOS file if you don't have one.
On screen FPS? Its right there in Video settings... this laziness is beyond RTFM.... lmao...

Anyone else crazy enough to try out FPse?

Hey there everyone!
I thought I'd never be able to play something properly on my G3.. but looky there! I actually tried out FPse, and without sound, it actually works really well!
Especially games with pre-rendered BGs (like Digimon World or FF 7) are really fluent with Frameskip to 50 fps and no frame limiter (it's a "fake" frameskip, so it doesn't look horrible and is actually quite fluent.)
Perhaps someone else tried it as well or is willing to try it?
Here're the games I tried:
Digimon World - working perfectly (50 - 60 fps)
Grandia - working quite well (40 - 50 fps)
FF7 - working perfectly (mostly 50-60 fps)
Final Fantasy Tactics - didn't want to boot properly
Metal Gear Solid - didn't get past the difficulty selection
FF8 - Dialog with Quistis where the Background suddenly moves makes BG grey and you aren't able to do anything thereafter
Digimon World 3 - working quite well (~40 on map, 50-60 in-battle)
Ogre Battle and Tactics Ogre - working almost perfectly as well (~50 fps)
Due to the Frameskipping, I wouldn't play too many racers or action games on it... would cause quite a bit of slowdown I think, Sled Storm went at about 30 fps on my device (Lestatious 1.2)
There's a little video I made in case you don't believe me, but I'm really enjoying myself!
FPse $$$ and the size of the games are to big for my 2gb sdcard.. theoratically should run almost smooth.

Crash Bandicoot 3 is not very playable fps~20-30 in the game ,and 50-60 fps in the videos.
Gran Turismo 2 w/o FS 30FPS, slowdown 4:1secs (4 sec in real is 1 sec in game)
With FS it say ~40FPS but:
-FS50 stuttering but almost full-speed
-FS40 sometimes stutter too but playable, slowdown ~1,5-2sec.
But... I have an bug(?) - at some menus, with FS i have only black-screen. Game is still working, sounds playing but nothing on display. That mean's after every race we need to disable FS, go thru menus and at start of race turn it again :/
From where download games?
google playstation one roms or something like that anyways. You know you should only download roms of games you own, otherwise it would be illegal.

Best playstation emulator?

Are there any playstation emulators that are working on the galaxy tab 10.1? All of them seem to have weird sound or poor fps. I think psx4droid worked on the xoom, but it's not playing nice on here.
Would also like to know this. Psx4droid just doesn't run any roms, and Fpse works, but lots of frame rate and sound issues running FFVII ( which according to the internets, is one of the best running roms out there).
I've seen it running really well on a phone, don't see why it should run badly on a more powerful device.
using FPse with Crash bandicoot and it works fine for me !
After I updated to Touchwiz UX FPSE started working alot better for me. Before I wasn't getting any sounds in FF9 and the sounds during regular gameplay were very choppy. Now I am getting 52-60 fps and sound emulation is great.
+1 for FPSe
Went through many emulators and the is by far the best.
Using an older version of psx4drioid (pre v2) works the best on tegra devices, havent tried it yet on my GT but on my old g-tablet it was the best emulator. Version 1.2 or 1.5 if I recall correctly.

whenever i get ff9 fpse wont load it, where are you guys getting your working roms from?
Fpse is the freaking best man, it even works flawlessly on my nexus s
+ 1 fpse
I wish I could get FPse working for me, I have the correct Bios, but when I load any game it shows a black screen for 30 seconds and then force closes. I know the roms are working because they work with PSX4droid (however PSX4droid randomly crashes and sound clips). Do you think its because I'm using the Starburst ROM? Or possibly I have a bad bios file?
FPSe loads FF9 fine if I have the BIOS file loaded, except:
1) Graphics look like crap. There are settings that VASTLY improve graphics quality but these make it laggy/choppy
2) No sound in many areas. Basically, there is no background music
Well FPSe is working great in terms of frame rate and all that ... But yeah getting a weird sound issue where the music in FFVII seems to be chopped off a little.
Notes don't' seem like they are completing or something. Kind of weird.

Runs perfectly smooth with no slowdown in FMV sequences? Because I am not having a similar experience. I have messed with the settings a lot, and I can get generally smooth gameplay and battle sequences (50-60fps) but I cannot keep the FMV scenes from being stuttery/jerky at time.

I have spusync option on under audio and frame limiter + frame skip 50fps. With these settings i get smooth gameplay in any game I have tried including FFVII and FMV scenes.
Try it out, the frame skip 50 fps allows some games to run normal for some reason with out any jerky gerky. (make sure frame limiter is active)
Happy gaming!

i've just upgraded the fpse to 0.10.59, and the graphics and screen size are really good!
Has anyone tried to run emulators on the stock firmware?
I've tried n64oid on the stock firmware and have managed to get mariokart working, but others such as paper mario arn't.

Im running stock firmware. its an emulator related issue, they dont support all games.
So far i tried (working):
Mario kart
Mission impossible
goldeneye (impossible to play though, needs to many buttons xD)
international superstar soccer deluxe (some minor texture issues, works though)
crash bandicoot (60 fps!!!)
lylat wars <3
mario party 3
Ok, so I've taken a risk and purchased fpse (I know it's available via other sources, but meh).
However, I can't seem to get the hardware keyboard working propery - has anyone had similar problems?

Have you used FPse using the hardware buttons?
EDIT!
I've since worked out how to solve this - I disabled the harware buttons in the FPSE settings and then set them - and then enabled it once more.
That seems to do it.
