Add AOSP Video supoprt to an app? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Would it be possibly to add video support to this App? (Crunchyroll)
Would it be too difficult or be a simple mod? Preferably some idea's that don't involve contacting the company. Already tried.

No I don't think you could do it. The app is streaming the video so it wouldn't work on the aosp video player. If there was a way to download the video then you might be able to locate the file and then play it. But only if you could download it. You could use the app but It would take so. Each serious editing.

What makes a AOSP ROM so different from just using a ROM like touchwiz ones? AOSP is still android so the app should still support video playback on any ROM as long as it supports the base of which android version the ROMs built on.

The two flash sites I use most often are livestream.com and ustream.com, both failed miserably with skyfire. There's an app for ustream, but none of my channels are available on it.

I dont get any messages saying i need a flash plugin or need to update my flash, however the video never plays either. Tried on both 3g and Wifi. no dice. Its very low on my priorty list and froyo will take care of it so its not a biggie.

Cant find anything using the search, sorry if there is already something.
When I upload video to youtube from the phone it is fine. As soon as I edit the video in Video Maker and upload it, it squashes it at the sides.

use video converters found in this thread and use it to resize:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263350
the thread is for different purpose (ignore that). use the softwares.
I had the same problem, I had to add yt:stretch=16:9 to the videos tags on youtube. It stretches it out but still gives a screwy preview image.
I found that this problem only occurs when exporting the video on 1280720. All other resolutions are fine. Hopefully Samsung will fix this problem.
Just tested with latest samsung firmware (2.3.4). Problem is still there, your fixes still work. I will use the 720x480 res fix.
Thanks.

because there are no drivers my friend. you should really read up on these things! with no drivers we don't have a lot. especially hardware acceleration for video and other 2d related things. only way around is to use gingerbread. all else have no drivers.
Better to use Skype...that will work in Roms..

Anyone thinking of installing the Google Gallery camera app, don't 1080p FC's.

Anyone who has a P769 should be warned that the new Google Camera/Gallery APK has a major flaw on this phone.
I can't seem to find a fix for the google camera app to allow 1080p to work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340858
If you attempt to change the video record mode to 1080p, you'll end up getting force closes. It just doesn't work.
Why use it? If you are using stock android 4.1.2, you are better off using the stock LG video recording app since 1080p works.
Also, Photo sphere just doesn't work in anything less then 4.2 either for obvious reasons.
Good to know thank you.

Subtitles Support

Dear all
I feel very sad because Z Ultra doesn't support subtitles for watching movies from Movies app.
The only way I find is to install any other app like VLC etc.
These small required things makes me miss my Note II.

I think the Movies can give full support for Movies purchased through the SEN store. Same with Apple's apps I suppose. MKV files also does not have sound. I think this is due to the codec licensing issue. Installing VLC is the only option unfortunately.

I don't really see the hardship about installing a free third party app like MX Player.

I use third party apps whenever possible for a couple of reasons.
1.) They are normally better than stock apps.
2.) To avoid the very issue you have just encountered when swapping devices.
Thats just me though each to his own, I agree it can be frustrating when simple features get left out
Sony heard it. Now MOVIES app with subtitles support. Thank you SONY.

Yup, got it last week. It is also possible to play videos in the background now (i.e audio). Not sure if it was there before, but i didn't notice it until the latest update.

Have you tried BSPlayer? It's a third party video player which HAS subtitle support.
Give that a go and report back.

I used to play videos by Dice Player. However, my concern was why there was no option for subtitle support for the default player in Z Ultra? Which in general I have seen in other mobile device.
I thought it's the basic required thing in all video playing apps.

True LordManhattan, but third party video/music players are always better, depending on the application and support of course.

Sure, but i hate having unnecessary 3rd party apps installed, so i'm not complaining when Sony updates their stock apps with new features
