SMS Backup - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same problem- i back up and restore my sms using GOsms, and once it goes past 10,000 on the restore it totally messes up the modem on whatever rom im using. no data will work at all. i've tried many things to be sure that that is what's causing the problem and it seems to be. anyone else having that issue?

Never used GOsms so I can't comment on that, but I use SMS Backup & Restore and I love it. I've got about 10k messages as well and it never gives me any problems. You can also schedule automatic zero click backups.

yes, use this you can backup your message

You guys message wayy to much

My question is, what the hell do you need to save your SMS's for anyway? Sure the conversations are great and nice.. But when you blow a new ROM on.. Why care about them?
People are just Weird! I had a friend want the new ICS on their Captivate so I put it on there and told him he will lose everything as I dont want to do the work to restore anything for him. And he was fine, did the upgrade for him and he was bummed he lost his SMS messages.. I laughed at him for his sadness..
WHY YOU NO DELETE YOUR SMS'S!!!!

DO NOT try and migrate call logs and text messages from an older version of Android!

i have been crashing left and right finally had to do a factory reset.
i was trying to bring my call logs and text/sms messages from international galaxy s2 running 2.3.4
i tried several ways, mybackup pro was the first... then just simple gosms pro backup/restore on sd card
both times it crashed my phone something crazy com.phone.service or something kept freezing, couldnt make calls or texts, etc
anyways, after factory reset 3 times i am just going to lose those logs... this is something Android needs to work on... while i HATED ITUNES... at least i could migrate all my stuff over without a hassle!
it has taken me over 5 hours to setup my Note just like my GS2!

I've had issue with GoSMS just totally screwing the pooch on its backup database, so it might have just been one of those cases for you. I was able to migrate from my XT860 just fine from a recent backup.
I used sms backup+, no problems so far. Restored 8000 texts.
I tried to import my old texts from my iphone using isms2droid and then SMS backup & Restore to restore the file that isms2droid made.
I haven't been able to run my Messaging app since then, and I think I'm going to have to factory reset this thing :-(
I used SMS Backup and Restore. No issues.
Another vote for SMS Backup and Restore. Also, he makes a similar app for call logs called Call Log Backup and Restore. I have used both going from every version of Android from 2.1-4.0.3 and back again.

[Q] Restoring SMS/MMS using My Backup

Afternoon guys,
So i've just updated from ICS (XXDLI8) to JB (DLJ4), used the download from samfirmware and Odin, then factory reset in the phone so that my internal SD was completely fresh/new, all good so far, but afterwards, when I tried to restore the backup I had made in ICS of my SMS/MMS, instead of grouping all my messages together in a single thread per person, it had a separate thread for each individual reply... giving me over 4000 threads O_O
Has anyone else experienced this? If not, I guess there might be a glitch that occurred during flashing with Odin and i'll just re-do it in a bit
I did the same thing but mine worked perfectly. Just try again and good luck
Hmmmm
Ok, so i've just wiped and re-flashed the ROM with Odin, restored my messages and the exact same thing has happened, every message has it's own thread... I was hoping a re-flash would fix any glitch but it doesn't look like it!
Anyone have any ideas?
I had the same trouble with all JB Roms I tried, asked the same question and got no answer/fix. So for now I'm using CM10 based rom's and no trouble.

It's a bit frustrating! But at least it's only SMS/MMS rather than something OS breaking haha. I guess i'll just have to live with it!
Wow, finally I have found this thread....... oh, and I guess im not the only one having this issue then.
Yep, same here. I flashed a rooted stock rom (DLJ4) too and same issue here. I restored all my messages but the conversation/threaded messages are no more.
I did reflash a few times but to no avail.
Can someone please advise me and the OP.....
Many thanks

Same ROM?
Also, I have just recieved a few messages from someone and all three messages show up seperatley!!
Forgot to mention, the SMS app I am using is the AOSP (google)one.
As you guys have figured out, My Backup sucks sometimes for backing up and restoring SMS messages. I flash various different Sammy JB ROMS fairly frequently. I would suggest using a dedicated program. I've always used the free app called SMS Backup & Restore by Ritesh Sahu, and have never had any problems.
Use titanium and use the .xml restore methods in future
AOSP SMS on Samsung based ROMs has that issue. Happened to me on Dragon ROM when I chose AOSP messaging. Worked fine when I flashed again, this time with stock Samsung messaging app. Try reverting to Samsung stock messaging and check. Who knows, it might resolve the issue. Good luck.
Alternatively, you can use SMSBackup+ to backup your messages and call logs to your Gmail account. Works like a charm for me. You won't need to restore the messages as they are just a click away.

Really appriciate the responses guys.
Just to clarfy a few things.
I have been using "SMS Backup & Restore Pro" (for a while) and it has always restored my messages without any issues (threaded messages restore properly). These were usually ICS Roms and "AOSP" JB Roms.
So I'm guessing its not the app itself. Having said that, I will try the app someone mentioned a few posts above- which links to Gmail. Sounds good.
Also, the person that mentioned about Titanium backup, I think you might have the answer.....I usually restore all apps and settings via Titanium. When it gives me the option for XML or Snapshot (I think), usually I choose XML but this time I chose Snapshot. So, I will reflash again and restore with Titanium but this time choosing XML. I will let you know if this works.
Finally, the person who mentioned about reverting to Stock Samsung messageing app, I have tried it but still get the same issue.
Thanks to all of you for responding and for your suggestions. :good:
I will get back here once I have reflashed. :fingers-crossed:
Thank you
ok guys.
I have flashed a few different Roms now and still have the same issue.....even with the samsung messaging app.
This is really frustrating me now!!
@ Slaphead20, can you advise me on how you did the .XML restore?
I tried but can not seem to find the option.
The option after I flash a ROM where it asks me whether I want to choose XML or snapshot doesnt seem to have appeared with the Roms I have been flashing. (Omega/sotmax & Haldric)
Hi, well tbh I just tap on the titanium loss for each one and restore, so I'm going to check in the preferences menu and see what I might of set up to get it working.....back in a bit!

I can't find the exact setting, so it might be a case of having to delete the titanium app settings backup that it creates on ext sd and re configure the app, but in the menu there are two relevant entries but I'm not messing with them to experiment as all is working for me......and if it ain't broke........ ..

Restored SMS after flashing a new ROM, broke SMS

NOTE: I would have preferred to post this in the dev thread, but alas, I am new to the forums (as a poster, not a reader)
[EDIT: To be clear, I know this wasn't caused by the ROM. But it did happen after flashing a popular ROM, and I thought it was relevant to mention which one. I'm very happy with SWG 2.23.]
Just wanted to warn people who are flashing Stock w Goodies or other ROMs and attempt to restore their SMS. I tried to restore my SMS data via My Backup Pro after flashing Stock w Goodies 2.23. My SMS stopped working altogether. I spent a significant amount of time on with Sprint tech support to resolve this issue after doing the following myself:
Update PRL
Update Profile
Factory Reset (via TWRP)
I then searched the web for this problem and found this solution (search for "cant-send-an-sms-on-your-android-ics-custom-rom-read-this" among others that describe the same process. Basically, it says to dial *#*#4636#*#* into the dialer to access a test mode (Phone Info) that lets you see your SMSC number along with GPS, data, and packet info. Mine was blank, and displayed an error when I selected "Update" and "Refresh." In any case, this didn't solve the problem.
So, Sprint had me do a data reset (##72786#) and enter a password. Didn't fix it. Then they did a bunch of crap on their side that also didn't work.
The solution that eventually worked was for them to reassign my MSID# (##261514# to edit on your phone), which had previously been my phone number (but usually isn't according to the tech). I checked the SMSC number afterward to confirm that this fix didn't just replace it via another method. The SMSC was still blank, so no change.
I can't be certain which process I did that screwed this up, but I'm near certain it was my attempt to restore SMS data after flashing the ROM. Either way, one should avoid restoring SMS via a backup app.
ive always restored sms
never had a problem
You should remove the name of the Rom from the thread.... Since this is a popular Rom known to be stable you're just adding negative feedback that isn't deserved... As well, backing up sms with apps has usually been painless for me.. But I've never used that particular app so I guess I can't be sure

I have never had an issue restoring sms messages when using any custom rom including flex's so you must have managed to screw something else up yourself.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I've never had an issue restoring sms or mms via mybackup. Except that it takes a lot longer than the built in backup, but that is not Rom related.
I know you probably tried a lot of troubleshooting, but to conclude that it was Stock with Goodies and publicly warn people was premature. Did you try flashing radios or some other update that if interrupted could damage phone?

Removed ROM mention to avoid undeserved and unintended negative association.

I don't think that was my conclusion. But I edited the title and post to avoid confusion.
Since none of you have ever experienced this as a result of restoring SMS data, have you ever experienced an apparently spontaneous change in the MSID during a ROM flash or data restore? The thing I can't figure out is how it happened. Logic would suggest it was one of the operations I performed along with flashing the ROM. This is what I did:
Backup Data via My Backup Pro
Dirty Racun
Flash TWRP
Backup
Factory Reset
Flash Stock w Goodies
Wipe Dalvik and Cache
Reboot
Restore Data (I restored SMS, MMS, etc. separately rather than as a batch, just because I didn't want my phone busy for that long.)
SMS was the only thing that broke. Anyway, I'm glad to confirm it wasn't the ROM and to know that I should be able to restore SMS just fine in the future. I appreciate the responses and the feedback. I thought maybe I had a problem others would want to avoid, and couldn't find this problem anywhere in the forums.
You should just use sms backup pro, its a seperate app, but it never gave me any problems, and titanium backup is good too.

I usually don't trust or like any of the root-enabled utilities to backup my text messages (TiBu, MyBackup, ROM Toolbox, etc). I've stuck with this since my first ever Android phone and it has never failed me. Ever.
I still have every single message from my original HTC Hero (not that I restore that backup, I don't want 50,000+ messages on my phone, I just keep it for backup purposes).
Stick with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&hl=en
You can even set it on a schedule to make sure it backs up every x number of days/hours/minutes/whatever.
That's the one I'm talking about, its the best.

I'm on Stock w/ Goodies and never once had an issue backing up and restoring SMS/MMS using Titanium.
You said you used dirty racun for S-off before flashing ROM. I suspect that's what broke your data and required reprovision. Most everybody that used lazy panda for S-off got broken data and had to call sprint to reprovision, myself included, both times.
And I agree with the others , SMSbackupRestore is the best for this function.

Ive used both MyBackup Pro and Titanium to restore my SMS with SWG and never had any issues

Missing SMS Content

Has anyone experienced any issues when restoring their SMS's (I used SMS Backup+) and all the SMS's have absolutely no text in them? I even did a manual import of a csv file and it did the same thing. This happened on a rooted rom as well as non-root stock rom.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

S6 EDGE SM-G925F(international) Smart Switch PC Transfer Problem - Applications

Hi. As the title says i'm constantly being hit with this issue. Whenever i try to backup my phone via smart switch PC, it backups up everything except APPLICATION data.
Like, i have about 70 apps on my phone which hang around 10GB of space. It says there are no applications installed and won't back them up no matter what.
I've tried this with an older version of smart switch, as well with the latest one. I'm stuck and i don't know what to do.
Strange thing is that this worked last time i did this, few months ago. But i can't figure out what is wrong this time, as it's the same version of smart switch.
Anyone know any workarounds? Thanks in advance.
Has anyone ever experienced this particular issue? I'm still stuck and would like to back up my phone. If anyone can help me out, i'd appreciate it, thanks.

Sorry for late reply. I am not rooted, can i still backup everything to titanium/helium? Also i've never heard of hope before. I am mainly looking for a way to backup everything without being rooted. It used to work with Smart Switch but not lately. It's the app data that i want the most to back up.

For titanium backup and helium root is required. And apologies I didn't mean hope I meant Google. Google account can back up app data I'm sure
