[Q] App dev and how to get your app to show in market for Cyanogen Mod devices? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm hoping somebody knows the answer to my question, I have a friend who has a bit of software in the android market. It used to show up for my Cyanogen Mod7 Nook Tablet, he had everything selected in the market submit software so it showed for pretty much every device I guess. I removed a lot of device because it didn't work well on all. The problem is it also removed it form the market on my CM7 Nook tablet.
SO the problem is he can't see what one to re select to get it avaiulable for me again. Does anybody know if there is some sort of generic device he could select that will make it show for the Cyanogen mod OS on my tablet again please?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

Thanks, I'll look into that one.
I was hoping to find out seeing as we had control of how the app was added to market that we'd find what we needed to select device wise to get it to show up properly without having to do anything on the device my end.

[Q] How to find out, if an app is for honeycomb or not?

hi there,
just got my galxaxy tab 10.1v yesterday. and now i'm wondering how to find out in the market, which apps are written for honeycomb?
what i need is something like a filter-option, like with the ipad and the appstore. there the apps for the iphone and ipad are shown in different panes, and you can easily tell whether an app is for pad or phone.
thanks for your answers
Yes, a filter is definitely needed.
There is already a list of Honeycomb apps being built in this forum. It's pretty hard to miss - it's the thread right above yours

i do know this thread above, and there's a similar one in xoom-forum, too.
but those threads need to be updated by xda-members, e.g. when they "randomly" discover an app. so if no xda-member is willing to update those threads, you'll never get to know the latest apps for your beloved tab
such a filter in the market would automatically show those apps.
If you sign-on in the market and you click on the App name it tells you in the application is compatible with your device.

Not even necessary. If it shows up in the Market, then it's compatible with your device (according to the developer). Non-compatible apps are not shown.
HC optimized is another story. What people really seem to want is a filter for tablet optimized (not just compatible) apps. But for reasons I've pointed out in another thread on the same topic this isn't likely to happen anytime soon.

Somebody should start a google docs spreadsheet and ppl can update it by themselves.
Digita1One was right. The best way to check compatibility for now is logging into your market account on your computer and click on the app name, on the left side right below the name of the app, it tells it's compatible with your tab or not. Just showing up in your market on your tab doesn't mean those apps are compatible. Hope this helps.

Actually, yes it does, when you're looking at the market from your device.

Actually, the market on my tab shows both Facebook and words with friends but then does not allow me to install them.

As I said in post #5, its up to the developer/publisher to code the compatibility of the apps in the market listing. Google doesn't police the market the way that Apple does. Most developers do a good job and mark their apps appropriately; a small number do not.

Does your viewsonic g-tablet NO LONGER appear in the Android Market?

I noticed several weeks back that my tab was not listed as a device in the the market when I visited the web-market. I could see my phone, but not my tab. It had been there. What happened to it? I began to think I broke *that* functionality of it somehow. I mean, I screw with my tab constantly.
I conveniently noticed there was an update for VeganGinger (7.10) so I went for it. Nope. No market device listing. (the 7.10 update broke it, I thot) Okay. Let's try Flashback. Nope. And, it's a *known issue.* Damn.
This morning, I emailed Google: For the last few weeks, I have been unable to "see" my device on the market. My phone is listed as my device, but my tablet has vanished from the list. I am still able to download apps from the tablet. It's just that my viewsonic g-tablet does not appear in the list of my devices. It's inconvenient when I want to install a market app to my tablet from the "web" android market.
A very nice person replied: Hi there, Thanks for contacting us today. According to our records, the device that you are using is not supported for use with Android Market at this time.
The Android operating system is open source, which means that any device manufacturer is free to use Android on its devices. However, Android Market is an application created by Google that is only made available to devices that pass Google’s compatibility requirements. In addition, manufacturers must obtain a license from Google in order to install Android Market on their devices.
For more information about the Android Compatibility Program, please visit: http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html
If you have any further questions, I recommend contacting the manufacturer of your device directly. I’ve provided a link below for your convenience: http://www.viewsonic.com/support/
I was unsatisfied, and a bit annoyed, so I replied and asked: As I mentioned, my device *had previously* shown up in the market.
Does the removal of my device mean that google has changed their device compatibility specs? Or that they are enforcing those specifications more stringently?
Additionally, is there anything I can do to allow my device to show up again? Or am I caught between google and a manufacturer that has stopped supporting their device?
Their answer: Your device wasn't ever a supported device unfortunately.
It does sometimes take a while for Market to recognize that the device is unsupported but once it does it isn't reversible. Viewsonic should have suggestions for alternative app sources. If you have any other questions or concerns, please let me know.
WHAT? Not reversible? Oh dear.
One more question: Will the limited Market functionality I currently have on my viewsonic device continue, or will it "go away" in the future?
The google answer: At this time, I can't say for sure whether you'll retain the access you currently have or not. I'm not aware of any planned updates to Market that would affect this but that doesn't mean they aren't in the works behind the scenes.
So, my fellow Viewsonic aficionados, there is the answer to the "howcum I don't see my g-tab anymore...?" queries. I just thought you'd all want to know.
Dan
BTW, If this info helped you, don't hesitate to hit the "thanks" button, k?

Yep. Your choices are to use Amazon (which works fine) and keep using the Market app (updated one, if needed, for HC roms) to download updates & freebies from the Market directly on the device.
And continue to scratch your head at the mess that is Android.
I'm glad i sold my Gtablet and got the HTC Flyer when Best Buy had them on sale.

And now, we return you to the thread.
So, is anyone aware of a way to clear/change identifying info from the g-tab to restore this ability, or do we collectively think it's a lost cause?

Not having it show up in the web store is not a big issue for me. Just download from the market on the tablet?

I am betting that it has something that needs to be changed in the build.prop in /system
If we can figure out which part needs to be changed to transmit a different ID to the market, then I imagine we as GTablet users should be golden. I can still buy and install on the device, just not from Web Market. Oh well....I still have 2.3.7 and very few other users do...yay Cyanogenmod!
Same problem with 10s
I have the same problem with a Viewsonic 10s. Mine has a stock rom and installing the market apk didn't work. Will flashing a new ROM fix things? Or having Root access allow installing apps from the SD?
I still have a few says to return the tablet so if things don't resolve themselves soon, back it goes.

No. I have flashed three times since this discovery, to no avail.
You can *still* browse and install the apps from Android Market to your device.
*The only functionality this affects is the ability to install an app to your tab when you're browsing the Market from your PC.*
Dan
Doesn't the 'market fix' that changes the device ID to allow more apps to show up, already accomplish this?
build.prop... what device= do you use??

I was using 'olympus' as the device= in my G Tab build.prop but recently found I could not install the Eye-Fi app... so I changed the device= to 'sholes' (same as my original Moto Droid which downloaded the app just fine)... bust still no love on the G Tab.
what device= are you folks using in build.prop on your G Tab?

So the CoD ELITE app was released on Android today! But NOT on (my) Atrix! But I transfered the APK from my Captivate and it works just fine!
The resolution is off, it does not take up the full screen. Maybe one of you mad scientist can dissect it for us?
It is just a port of the iOS version so it leaves a little to be desired, but at least it does work even though the Market says its not compatible..

Thank you WiredPirate for posting the apk. Surprisingly, this app is not available in certain countries like mine. And you just helped me (and probably others) a lot by doing this.
You are welcome!
YEAH, thanks a lot WiredPirate, it's not available in Panama either...
Sure, no problem. If they ever update it to fix the resolution problem I will post that apk for yall!
cod elite
it's on the market for atrix now. terribly made app. just ported from iphone. doesn't fill up full screen or have any button functionality. actually, doesn't have much functionality at all. basically check stats and that's it. stupid iphone ports
=)
Thank You very much
Yea, I wish they would fix the resolution. I keep seeing resolution fixes in the updates but still no luck
Hey WiredPirate, do you care to post the updated .apk? I would greatly appreciate it.
[EDIT] I mean, I greatly appreciate the effort thus far, but when I load up the app, it won't show the login form. Just the background with a banner at the top with the logo on it. :/

[Q] Full Market Access on Nook Tablet

Hello XDA,
I was wondering if there was a way to achieve full market access other then using the CM7 rom? Do any of the other roms/rooting methods under "nook tablet android development" do this? Can anyone confirm?
Thanks for the help.
Root, install gapps, and voila--market access.
I do have market already on my tablet however I know there are some apps that dont show up in the market, I usually side load apps on that dont show up but if I were to just get them from the market it would be much easier and convenient.
Change build.prop to look like nexus S that mod is in apps & themes section, still wont give you all access but its the best you can do. Also if you're outside the US download market unlocker from android market.

You need to edit the build.prop for that. It's not very hard, but can be a little tricky. Search around (here or on google) and you'll find good instructions on that. The following thread links to quite a few helpful tips and tricks for NT, and editing build.prop is one of them:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415812
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for all your help everyone. I should have done the smart thing and looked at the Intro/Newbie Thread. I was able to modify the build.prop, looks like Ill have to stick with it for now, not exactly what I wanted but its a start. I shall just have to wait till the new CM7 is released.

update beta2 release(app) FLIPBOARD (official beta)

yes you are right but most of the posts and topics look nice, neat and clean.
and I think something is still better than nothing....
what do you say?
compared to the browser....you'd have to argue the need for this, it was designed for the phone (GS3) and all that's been done is ported from there. If they developer made a bespoke tablet version then it'd be nice. but hey, thats my beef with ICS at the moment, many apps are stretched and look wrong
I like it alot.... Thanks for sharing,I hadn't seen the other thread so glad to have the app on my og evo and touchpad

I was working on it.... Never got it right, as it appears I was only able to change the UI fonts. The article fonts themselves appear to be set remotely and just displayed locally. So it didn't even fix the biggest issue with the fonts which is in the articles themselves. It only fixed the UI and header fonts. I was going to post the APK anyway, but I found a force close error when trying to add new feeds, so that made things not so nice. Add to that the fact that for some reason, the APK wasn't installable unless I re-signed it, that makes it difficult to switch between versions without uninstalling/reinstalling, I decided not to post the modified APK.
If a developer type wants, I can send the modified APK directly. I'm not going to post it here because it's A) not stable and B) didn't achieve the intended purpose anyway, and C) I don't want to have to support something that's broken/unfinished.
Anyone that knows how to decompile/recompile an APK can do the same thing I did. All I did was reduce the font sizes in the XML layout and values files. As I said though, that didn't have any effect on the actual article content, which appeared to be defined remotely.
