HTC Announces HTC One S for T-Mobile - HTC Amaze 4G

http://www.htc.com/us/products/htcones-tmobile#tech-specs looks like i have new phone! 720 and VGA front facing! WOOT!

Unfortunately
Display 4.3" qHD Super AMOLED 960x540
Couldn't we just get a custom Rom that's ics + sense 4.0?

just the vga ffc and the super amoled screen, those seem to be the only major sell points, htc seems to be putting out more and more phones, but with less and less actual hardware upgrades

no 720p screen like the Rezound?

I don't want to sound like debby downer, but the only thing that is getting me is S-off on the amaze. I think it might be a while till we see sense 4.0 on this phone but the one s has everything i like. IDK i just wish it came with the quad core i hate how technology is getting held back.

I honestly don't see the big upgrade. The only thing the One S really has on us is size, it's something like 8mm thick instead of the 11 or so on the Amaze; and possibly their new image chip. Other than that, it's just HTC trying to get the super nerds (us) into buying a phone similar to the one we have because it's "new."

Not exactly though, because for people unlike "US" their are people who buy their phone and never glance at XDA or any dev site. So that means they are still stuck with sense 3.0 ect. This phone for the average user gives them sense 4.0 which the amaze isn't supposed to have even if we did get it through the devs. A sharper camera which for me takes the hassle out of pulling at the Fujifilm every time. The size difference. A brighter more vibrant display. I mean for the person who doesn't unlock the bootloader and flash roms, It's an upgrade. Not as much to us but even to us their are some things the amaze don't have meaning upgrade.

True, but the average user prob doesn't care as much about gingerbread, ics, sense 4.0 etc. as we do. Haha.
I'm just bugged by HTC in general. I wish they would do more for customer retention than selling a phone and putting it on the back burner 4 months later. Make us love HTC and be loyal, then more people would stick with them on their upgrade or replacements.

Get an Evo 3D or Galaxy S II?

So I was 99.9% certain I was going to purchase the Samsung Galaxy S II, but now that ive seen the evo 3d, im stuck between these 2 devices.
Spec wise there pretty similar
Both have 4.3" displays
Both shoot 1080p and have ffc
Both are 1.2ghz Dual-core
Both have 1gb ram
Both have hdmi out
Only obvious difference is evo has 3d cam and 3d display but galaxy 2 diaplay is wayyy batter in terms of quality not res.
Build quality of htc evo 3d will be better, im sure, but the GSII is like half the thickness and very light, so thats sort of a draw. Release is around the same time and im sure price wont differ that much.
Which one should a person choose considering the whole 3d thing is sort of a gimmick and im going to barely make use of it???
And how exactly do you know the Galaxy's screen is waaayyy better?

I had galaxy s and have desire hd currently and the s-amoled is much much better than the DHD lcd and the evo also uses lcd. On top of that, the s-amoled plus is big improvement over the samoled so its common sense. Also ive seen comparison shots of lcd vs s-amoled vs s-amoled plus vs retina and samoled plus is easily the best.
Same dilemma here...
HTC = Sense UI, if you buy LG, Samsung or any other manufacturer you will never see Sense roms. Look at Samsung Galaxy S series, 4G, Nexus S etc... all they have is AOSP roms like CM7, Miui etc.. no Sense due to close source from htc, now if you buy HTC phone you can have both worlds Sense UI and AOSP roms.

Yeah, there was a dilemma at first but they confirmed our DHD's come with s-lcd.
about the release date from what Ive heard, the sgs2 is coming out for verizon, tmobile and sprint around june, and evo 3d is also supposedly coming out in june but I think it might be sooner since theres and htc event for the 12th or 14th and pre orders might start soon but im not sure if its for the htc pyramid or evo3d. So who knows maybe itll be out sooner
I Have an Epic right now... and honestly not even thinking about the SGS2 ..
Why the build quality is **** the keyboard causes the screen to wobble everytime i touch it.
Samsung sucks @ Updates...
the drivers are stupid...
alot more development behind the Evo...

I think it depends on which SG2 is available to you, will it be the Tegra 2 or Samsung Orion. The Tegra 2 is very underwhelming, but the Orion is impressive.
If it's the Tegra 2 SG2 (I think Europe is still getting these) get the Evo 3D instead. If you can nab the Orion SG2, get that one.
And the lack of Sense argument is invalid, since the SG2 will have Touchwiz, which Sense phones lack. Some people like Sense, some people hate it. Some people like Touchwiz, some people hate it. Having one or the other isn't really a drawback/benefit.
Personally, I would go with the SG2 (I dislike Sense a little bit more than Touchwiz), assuming Samsung doesn't use a ****ty file system again like the first series.
And really, the whole HTC vs. Samsung arguments are getting real old, real fast. We get it, Touchwiz and the plastic is not your cup of tea. However, some people love it. I love the feel of the Nexus S MUCH more than the feel of the Nexus One, but I like the feel of the DHD more than the feel of the.. Captivate. Preference. Saying "Samsux" is just childish.
Perhaps the only thing I hate about Android is that the community is split between HTC, Samsung or Motorola. There is no middle ground, just like iPhone vs. Android. It's one or the other and people will incessantly argue which is better. It's all preference guys, there is no need to impose your preferences on others so harshly, especially when we are all apart of the same community.
Edit: I also prefer SAMOLED to SLCD, so I am assuming I will love the SAMOLED+ more than the SLCD 3D of the Evo 3D, but I could be wrong.
@XanLinder, it's not about which is better. I'm just pointing out the facts that if you like TouchWiz than get Samsung or Sense than get HTC. You forgot this is htc section HTC = SENSE
Edit: I'm just saying that if you buy other manufacturers don't complain about there's no dev, roms. Look at the Nexus S development section they all thought just because it's a Google phone and it'll be supported by dev just like N1. But it's not they forget who make the Nexus One. Now they're moaning and *****ing cause they want Sense UI. lmao

Super Amoled + at 4.3in on the SGS2 will have a lower resolution than the Evo 3D's qHD resolution of 540x960. I will go for the Evo. You will see the pixels on the SGS2. They dropped the ball with resolution.

Not necessarily because the evo will provably have pentile matrix and the new super amplest plus has 50 percent more subpixels per pixel. Early reviews All have praised the galaxy s2s display, slcd is good but anemic in terms of colors and vibrancy compared to super amoled

[Q] EVO 3D or Samsung Within ?

Is this Samsung Withing (Galaxy S2) a worthy candidate to consider to buy over the 3D ?
Got my upgrade override done yesterday..I want the 3D but maybe I should hold off a few weeks for upcoming Samsung Within ?
Thoughts ?
Seems like the 3D will be the winner because of dev support. Look at the evo vs the epic! Yet another battle between sammy and HTC and devs once again went with HTC.....if you care about custom roms and dev support that is.

LOL really is that so? What is there to believe when its already a fact. Most if not all the devs from the evo (which had the best dev support I've ever seen on any android phone) already have this phone. I highly doubt they will abandon HTC to move to a SamSuck. The within only has 320000 pixels (800 x 400). The 3vo has a 960 x 540 resolution which is 518400. You're losing out 198400 pixels -- no thanks. I honestly feel like my EVO 4g looks horrible compared to my 3vo. I think in the long run the 3vo will have great developer support.

Within will have more built in memory and super amoled screen.
Both running 1.2 GHz chipsets.
Within comes with 8 MP camera (2x5MB) for 3D.
These phones are very close and I think whichever phone will have bigger dev support will win.

I understand that you have hope, but just don't see people leaving HTC for sammy. The galaxy s 2 isn't that impressive if you ask me. It feels cheap, like really cheap based on what many reviews said on YouTube; which I can believe because every sammy phone I've felt had that cheap feel i.e nexus, galaxy series, epic etc. This is my look on it: sam has better gpus, HTCs have the better processors (qc). Sammy has better screens, HTC has better design. If you want to take a chance to see if sgs2 will have a much support by all means go ahead but I'm sticking with my 3D.

The within may not even be close to the evo 3d because they are low on super amoled + screens and their custom processor.. it depends what version sprint gets.
I'll be switching only because I've come to really value smartphone camera/multimedia features and HTC provided no upgrade in that dept (amazingly, given its camera is its distinguishing feature). We'll hopefully see by July24 what the devs can do in that dept tho.

I can understand that; me personally im not really in to taking photos on my phone but i must admit ive been taking a bunch of 3D photos lately. Camera isnt a big deal to me but the GPU is; it seems the adreno 220 was the right choice! I think HTC did a great job with the hardware they chose for this device, but i could live w/o the camera buttons and the side charger port lol....
HTC
I've not owned a Samsung in several years however my daughter has a Samsung Galaxy S that I have played with. I just like HTC better, navigation, touch screen feel, menus etc.
I personally would only wait if there was another HTC dual core phone coming soon from Sprint, I'm stuck with Sprint. I chose HTC
One thing is speaking for SGSII that while we spending many many manhours trying to get root Sammy gave the SGS to Cyanogen guys month ago.
That phone has a large support and dev community all over Europe already.
It will come out rooted and ready for CM.
It's a big plus IMHO.
While HTC is just promissing unlocked bootloade Sammy did it without any promisses or big words.

How is this a stupid marketing move? The Rezound is in a different class than the Inc line. The Rez is low upper tier whereas the Inc is high middle tier. The Inc 4g will have a qHD display, not the 720p of our device. The Rez successor is essentially the One XL, which VZW hasn't released a version of yet.

I wouldn't say they dropped the ball, necessarily. The Rez just had horrible timing. A month, essentially, before the most anticipated flop, I mean, device on VZW in the Gnex? Then the mighty Razr line. VZW will always push Moto devices harder than HTC because Moto plays nice and HTC doesn't (in their eyes, not for people like us). Moto keeps everything locked down and HTC is more user-friendly. I seriously doubt the Dinc 4g will be marketed any more than the Rez.
EDIT: and the red accents thing is HTC, not VZW, ie the Sensation and every other HTC device of the past year.

Interestingly enough it says on that article (taken with a grain of salt) that it has Android 4.0 with Sense 4. Interesting. If true, I wonder if it could mean that at some point Sense 4 *could* come to our rezound?
This is all about the DROID branding, therefore it'll get pushed hard, but the big thing the article doesn't mention.
Is the dual core, a Snapdragon S3 or S4?
If it's S3, we got it beat, if it's S4, this device is a bit better in terms of raw power and ability.

yes we know this but i think people wanted it natively instead of being hacked in from another phone. you get the point. but i agree newtoroot did a great job, hats off to him.

Great job is an understatement. I'm loving what he did.

Interesting find. Though I am disappointed at how Verizon and HTC are handling the whole incredible series. It has become a budget phone, with the qHD resolution, 1.2 GHz S4 processor and all when other phones are touting HD resolution and 1.5 GHz processors. I hope this is priced at $199 because $299 will be WAY too much for this given that it will be outclassed soon. Well, it at least has the latest processor, albeit underclocked, unlike the dinc2...

Hopefully the price does reflect the lower clock speed and screen size, but I'm hoping that the no-so-large screen and underclocked cpu results in some great battery life
The leaks show it at $299, so I see no reason to buy this phone.
Disappointed with the qHD screen... I would've liked to see a 720p S-LCD like on the HTC One series.

I agree, the original Incredible was the cream of the crop, and they've been decreasing in standout-ness.
If the Inc4GLTE was a One X variant instead of a One S variant I would be more excited.

It seems to have same camera as one series which is a huge plus, as well as native sense 4

Its a 4 inch screen...HD Res would be stretching it
If you look at the phone for what it is, a smaller lte one s, its a nice phone
And given that its less resolution and same processor it should perform as well as or better than the other s4 ones

And pushing fewer pixels might even make the phone even more responsive. Who knows. I don't mind the smaller screens and the screen resolution bump is about all that could be expected.
LTE is a deal breaker for me. Phone will be in the same situation as the Rezound and not have AOSP. I'd imagine battery life would be terrible as well, wouldn't be a HTC otherwise.

Me neither, I'd assume htcdev unlock unless the rezound s-off stuff could help (but I'd assume no).
I really would like one, I've grown to really love my inc2, and i be began to point out all the negatives on other 3g phones...but I really agree that the resolution isn't the biggest downfall, but after seeing the Gnexus...man oh man I don't want to pass it up but seriously the screen size for the Inc4G is truly perfect...

Didn't say it was bad. Would just rather not have it. I don't have it here but I don't even use it when I'm in markets that do, always just stay on 3G. Would rather have AOSP over LTE.

True.. honestly. I've been trying to fix my extremely low data speeds now for a month...few remedy tickets sent out as they would say...3g is suppose to be 600 KB/s...honestly that's great. I would rather have asop ANYDAY over LTE

That was from a Razr template so it had the Razr price. If the Inc2 was 199 on contract I can't see this being higher.

HTC makes another first... Meet the HTC J Butterfly

So, there's been lots of speculation about a 5" HTC phone, and it's finally been announced. Not only 5" display, but the FIRST 5" display in the world to offer full HD 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, this one will not be sold outside of Japan. But, they have said that we can expect to see this display in phones around the world in upcoming models.
SOURCE: The Verge
The rumors were true: HTC has been working on a new flagship phone with a 5-inch 1080p display, and we got to see it in Tokyo today. It's the HTC J Butterfly, and it's set for a release this December on AU / KDDI. A follow-up to the previous HTC J, the Butterfly uses the same red and black color scheme and Rhyme-inspired skin, though this time it's running on top of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Inside there's a quad-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064 processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera with an f/2.0 lens.
The real attraction, though, is the 5-inch full HD Super LCD 3 screen — it's truly a sight to behold. The Super LCD 2 seen in HTC's previous flagship One X was arguably the best panel on the market, but we think its successor is the new champion. Color reproduction is excellent, the 440ppi resolution is astonishing, and the screen's slightly curved edges make the image look like it's melting off the side of the phone. It doesn't feel overbearing in the hands, either; the phone's 9.1mm thinness and slim bezel make it surprisingly compact, and we found it was easily pocketable. The J Butterfly's 2,020mAh battery is above average in capacity, though we're interested to find out how it'll keep up with powering so many pixels throughout the course of a day.
While this is a Japan-specific model and almost certain to stay that way, HTC reps told us that its display will be making its way into other phones around the world. If the J Butterfly is anything to go by, you should start to get excited.

I wonder if Butterfly sounds cooler in Japanese?
I'd love this + SD Card slot. I'd screw over my perfect update schedule for it.
Saw it last night, think I may have been drooling lol. I don't know how comfortable I would be with a 5 inch phone though, and no I don't think HTC Chou sounds any better lol
Gf says J chou sounds totally cooler because it's the name of some Asian pop singer lol
I'm willing to believe that the next EVO will see this screen. It'll have to.
Butterfly makes me think of the kyocera echo, glad it's not a dual screen pos

Oh you can bet we will see this phone or one almost identical to it. When, who knows. But it just makes me think Gs3 what?? Note 2 What??? LG nexus what?? This is simple the best phone announced to date...and thats just a simple fact.
I hope on the Evo, it's more of an edge to edge screen. If I have a 5" screen, I want it no wider than my LTE. It's kind of ugly (not a fan of the earpiece), but I bet that screen would make me forget all about it.
I'm kinda done with the constant up sizing of the screen... The Evo lte is almost too dang big already.. I'll definitely be looking elsewhere if 5" plus size screens are htcs only option in the future.

The j butterfly is 143 x 71 x 9.1 mm, our Evo Lte's are 134.8 x 68.9 x 8.9 mm. Only 1/3 inch taller, and the the width and depth differences wouldnt even be noticeable. This phone has me excited, noting that KDDI is a CDMA carrier.
Oh man I sure wish the butterfly was our EVO instead of the jewel...

Nice find. I always said this phone is already a bit too big. But the overall dimensions on the J butterfly are hardly bigger.
I see some pics with a big rectangle earpiece that I Dont like, but some other pics show an earpiece like the OG Evo which I really like. Not sure why the discrepancy.
hurled from my AOKP'd Evo LTE. Enjoy.
Wow what an embarrassing name for a phone. "Hell yeah I got the new HTC butterfly!"

Yeah, but it's a Japanese phone, they have hello kitty phones and all sorts of other weird stuff. The name butterfly probably seems normal.
If this is the model for the Nexus 5 or whatever it is going to be called, it will probably be a bit smaller without the hardware buttons. If it had the software buttons this would be perfect

Yeah, I mean KDDI could've requested something more feirce: HTC Kendo, HTC Oda, HTC Tiger, or hell HTC Daimyo.
I can only imagine what would be added by the time it comes here to the US, and what specs would be updated when it makes it to Sprint. Like a 16MP camera, next generation processor, Android 4.2, etc.? I'm starting to get hot & bothered here.... LOL

There have been a lot of rumors flying around that LG, HTC, and Sony will each have their own nexus device. LGs supposedly will be based on the Optimus G, HTCs will supposedly be based off the Droid Incredible X (which is basically the same as this phone).

Aren't they making a few different Nexus phones from different manufacturers? Like Motorola was supposed to be involved, along with LG, HTC, and Samsung? I could've sworn I saw it in an article somewhere...

Atm I don't believe that they have 1080p screen tech any smaller than 5" ...if they can reduce the top and bottom.bezel then hopefully the phone won't be much larger ..other than that ..which I'd eat up that screen with that chipset and ram..we are approaching pc power..pretty unbelievable
