flashing ROM - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello.
i already root my phone with odin and xw kl1.now a want to install Lite'ning Rom but i cant find one with KL1 firmware base.
if i want to change default ROM i have to search a ROM based on my kernel ( in my case XW KL1 ) ?
thanks

Wrong area, your going to get flamed big time... You can flash any base, Doesnt need to be one that matches your current.. Id recommend backing your default base/ROM up tho.

you can flash any ROM it doesn't have to.match.with what your on just make sure you make a backup before flashing if you get stuck just pm me I'll be happy to help and I'm sure devs and users will help you I'm sure I got the help I needed ..try omega ROM 10.4 I think that's on wkl1 ok good luck

4.0.3
If I flash my S2 with 4.0.3 did it keep arabic caracters, i have now Andoid ver 2.3.4 ??
BB version I9100XXKH3
Ver number
Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3
Tks

omega stock and blue black installed.works fine but no battery saving so far.
is there a top 10 of custom ROM regarding battery saving.i'm not interested in high quadrant score.i'm not using the phone for games.

No. There isn't a 'top 10 of custom rom regarding battery saving'.
For the simple reason that everyone uses their phone differently, everyone has their phone setup differently (apps, etc) and no two phones come out of the factory exactly the same. You won't have the same experience as me if you use the same rom/kernel as me (or anyone else).
Try a bunch of roms until you find one that works well for you.

Its not like I don't want to help you but mostly all of your questions can be answered just by lookin' into the "Android develpment" section of this sub-forum.
You can find everything you need there; from instructions about how to flash a ROM to the ROM itself.
As for the best ROM, well, there's aint much custom ROM for the Ace now. But a stock XXKPH might be the one you lookin' for.
Used it for almost a moth now and still no SODs or crap like that.
Hope this help.
+1
KPH is what you are looking for.
I've used every rom out there but I find it the best one.
Use cf-root kernel on it & apply some tweaks. It'll fulfill all your needs.
Don't forget to hit thanks if I helped you!
Code Rom is the best till now .
Fast, stable with darktremors apps2sd and ext 4 support in nexus ace .

As you can see from comments above; such 'best ROM' is relative to each people.
One may want features that others dont and vice versa.
You should try one by one and find which suits you best.
Thanq guys for ur replies. Im unable to find my present firmware(DDKA7) not even here
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-s5830.htm.

You don't need to go back to the same firmware. If you want to go back to froyo then you flash with DDKC1.

The thing would be void warranty if you want to get an exchange... they do check your firmware version.

yeah if there wil b any damage in future, i need to flash previous firmware b4 taking it to samsung care. So thats why i asked
Hey!
I think all ROM-s DEVELOPERS and others, who may include needed things in ROM(custom ones)are WORTH for BIG RESPECT(developers are doing what they can and after that they MAYBE can IMPROVE, already made out ROM-s)!!!
CHEERS!
try stock 2.3.4 + custom kernel cf-root... no any kind of bugs for me..
If you really want a stock gingerbread firmware (stock means no modification at all, no custom kernel) then I can suggest 2.3.3 KPN from Spain. No SOD so far, wake up lag almost does not exist (both problems are in 2.3.4 KPH).
However, if you can live with a from time to time SOD or with the wake up lag, 2.3.4 KPH is enough. Also, if you go KPH, there's a lot of custom ROM for it now.

I agree and vote for KPN. Haven't encountered any SOD yet ( I use my SGA as a portable hotspot for an average of 6 hours a day, and with KPH, SOD happens twice a day) Hope it stays stable..
2.3.3 XWKPN is the best for me

[Q] I don't have ANY feature of VILLAINROM 3.0

Hi all,
I flashed the ROM yesterday and I can't see any of the ROM features.
I mean, I can see on phone info Villainrom 3.0, Android version 2.3.5 and ninphetamine 2.0.5, but there is no difference at all between stock Samsung ROM and the ROM I flashed.
I downloaded it twice and I flashed through recovery and I made the wipe required after the flash. Any idea of what is happening?

Have you checked the rom's thread, specifically the VRTweaks post?
Regardless, you're likely to have more luck asking your question in the existing thread.
Also pls notice a custom rom not always at first impact looks different to stock
Usually custom TW based roms (stock based) got "hidden" tweaks more than "visual" tweaks.
Check under Phone Info (settings) if the flashed rom is running or not
Without reading VR instructions .You have to be doing something wrong following the instructions.

I've been running this since it been released and its very stable and is based on a stock look approach... it is also very easy to customize it to your liking.

Just a suggestion.
Flash stock KI3 from intratechs thread. Original dev section.
Flash csc from same thread if you want.
Root with KI3 kernel from chainfires thread.
That will give you stock but rooted KI3 2.3.5
Can then install jkay app to turn off battery sounds.
All appear very stable.
Don't have links right now but if you can't find them sing out and I'll post the links when I get on my desktop.

newbie. best rom?

hi i just bought my phone last week an I've already experienced some lag even though there's not much apps installed. so now i want to try a custom rom. what rom would be the best for first timers thanks..
If you have 2.2 installed (old baseband) than andy's phoenix rom is the best.
Grab it from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=909242
If you have 2.3 (new baseband) than you should go for Ginger LOL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1118685
hi, thanks for the reply. baseband is the version of android im currently using right? im using 2.3.3. but the link for ginger lol says page is not found. i'll try to search for it in the forums. thanks.

baseband is not the android version. i wrote up a small thing on baseband here.
here is the link for ginger lol (the link in post two is actually the right link except for the four dots):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118685
in my opinion, i would use andy's phoenix rom. follow these instructions:
a) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15309588&postcount=2
b) also, since you are currently using official gingerbread (2.3.3), you need to downgrade your baseband version, instructions found here
thanks for the info man. as i've read, most roms will eventually support the new baseband. so i think, im gonna wait a little longer for that. one more thing though. i though when i install rom, the kernel comes along with it, but as i read it seems that i need to flash my kernel too? thanks for your help.
phoenix rom comes with franco's .35 kernel preinstalled
There's no need to install other kernel.
roms using old baseband is never going to support new baseband...
DUDE I prefer, no need to root your stock rom for installing custom rom.
follow http://lg-p500-optimusone.blogspot.com/ if u want this.
note : I didnt try this but this should work

plain and simple, and stats show... best rom, Mik_os's cyanogenmod 7 port
paired with your choice of either the latest franko kernel or fserves kernels.
CyanogenMod 7 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=946354
Franko kernel 19.4 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518
Fserve's kernerls (personally i use goldenleaf, has the absolute best battery life out there, and good performance) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227682

Thank you for helping me...
i9300 is the international phone, so yes.
The installled ROM, kernel and baseband are irrelevant if you want to change ROM.

Any recommendation stable and fast ROM for me?
Another question if I want to flash to OMEGA 7.0 ROM can I just simply flash from my phone setup now : IMM76D.I9300XXALF6? Because ROM OMEGA 7.0 they use Based on XXALF5...Should I downgrade to XXALF5 then flash rom to OMEGA 7.0 or I can straight away flash base on my current setup?
Still learning and learning and learning and learning....Please don't dont giveup teaching me...hehehe...
Read and follow directions of the Rom you choose. Make sure you do backup first then,if you don't like it you can go back or flash another. Runs are pretty subjective and cater for a variety of tastes so hard to recommend one. Most want super fast with best battery life but there is a trade off

You should always factory-reset when changing Rom's.
It thus doesn't matter what ROM and version you come from and go to.

I'm still running ALE8 with Siyahkernel. Works great after a few customizations and tweaks applied as found here in the forum. Most ROM's have trade-off's (e.g. they want to slim it down and remove libraries or features I consider worth it)
You won't see a real performance difference between Samsung-based ROM's.
Actually you _WILL_ see a difference at the beginning since your phone is then again factory-new without lots and lots of apps and background services.
