Beats audio or poweramp? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ive run several roms with beats, it is a good improvement over stock audio, but am curious to what people think of power amp and its functionability. Ive downloaded the trial and to me it seems better. Any thoughts?

Never used beats, but have had power amp for about a month and love it. Fiddling with the EQ really made a difference in my car while listening to music.

i absolutely love poweramp, it's one of the few apps i've shelled out cash for -- everything else is a free version with ads or whatever

I have to agree poweramp is awesome. the update with the beats audio actually made it 10x better IMO.

poweramp is soo good that once you get used to it, you actually stop caring about trying newer or diff alternatives. I have been using it for a few years and it keeps getting better and better, even when the dev releases a busted update, they are always quick to fix and will usually take suggestions from users on their forum and make it a reality in the next version, you can't beat that. Not to mention how epic the equalizer is, not even running a 3rd party EQ app and another music player have I come close to the sound quality I get with PowerAmp. Native album art downloader + lryics plugin form musicmatch (older pre player version ftw) , I just don't see how anything can compete with PowerAmp for playing back local music.

when i tried out poweramp i didn like it . It just seemed clunky. I prefer the sense 3.5 music player. It sounds good, looks good, and has an automatic album art downloader
the only time i use poweramp is to have a insane bass eq my friend made if someone wants to hear how loud beats can get

PowerAMP ftw! One of a double handful of apps that I've purchased. Used it on my EVO, even better on my Thunderbolt.

Now that we have gb - any cool new apps available?

I've heard in the past that some apps have never worked on our tbolts cuz we didn't have gb. Now that we do is anything new and better available? I like apps.
Equalizer is a good one if you listen to a lot of music from your phone. Has presets, custom eq, bass boost, and reverb. Works with a lot of streaming apps and music players, makes rhapsody actually sound decent playing from the phone.
I had DSP with a real EQ over a year ago on my dInc.
Maybe some of the higher end games, but apps in general? I don't think so.
And I had DSP with a real EQ on my Touch Pro 2 over 2 years ago...
One of the main reasons that I decided to root the TB and use a GB rom is that none of the available EQ apps on the market supported Froyo. You would have an EQ built in to a few players, like the stock HTC one, but there were none that supported it system wide for use on streaming apps such as Rhapsody which did not have one built in. Hence my suggestion.
front facing camera now works in Skype.

Best player for straight forward listening and quality?

Can you guys recommend me one (or some) of the top media players for music? I've read many reviews but many players seem to be bloated with unnecessary things like online music/radio, syncing, lyrics, and other things that I don't personally need. All I'm interested in is something that presents a very nice UI, is easy to use, can create a now playing list (unlike Ipods..) and can enhance stock sound quality.
From reading, I think my best bet so far is Poweramp but I was just wondering if there were any good free ones out there or others I might want to consider.
Thanks!
edit: Also, to go along with this, I'm interested in what I can use to transfer/sync music from my computer to my phone. With wp7 Zune made it very easy to drap and sync, see what was already sync'd, etc.
If you had a Zune, you might like Ubermusic

I just downloaded the trial and am testing it out now. Yeah, its really good.comparing it with the stock player on my wp7...there's no comparison.seriously impressed. I don't have an sd card or case yet so for now I'm sticking with my windows phone for music at the gym but I will almost definitely buy this app as soon as I do get my full library up on here.
There's no way to use the zune software to communicate with my phone to sync is there? For now I used windows media player to sync but am wondering if there are better options...

I use double twist. Has a nice UI and works well enough for me.
I also just downloaded N7 which is getting fantastic reviews. I only have one album on my phone so kind of hard to really see how it works. Reviews are stating it's better than power amp. So far I like power amp better... anyone try both?
I have both and poweramp wins hands down
Does stock music app already have the equalizer there in settings?
I, in general, hate to use any third party apps that do almost the same as stock unless i removed stock app.

Poweramp is a great app. I tried them all and lucked up Poweramp when it was first released. It is well worth the price. The development has been spot on with ongoing support and regular updates..I I have used it across multiple rooms Samsung stock captivate, cm7, cm9, gnotes gingerbread and have never once noticed a glitch or incompatibility of any kind. The sound reproduction is excellent. I use it for audiobooks and to play podcasts downloaded with dogpile... The ui is intuitive, and still offers tons of tweaks and optimizations... Then there is the fact that the ui, as anything well designed tends to be, is down right elegant and a pleasure to use. Seriously, you will not regret the purchase.

I like Rocket Player because it works well with isyncr and isyncr wifi. It's free in the basic version and $2 for the unlocker which has more features.
Rocket Player is new but it promises to give Power Amp some competition.
Power Amp is no doubt the best but I don't need all of its features.
PowerAmp might be better than it used to be, but I think Player Pro is the best one on the market right now. It looks great, it's not some custom crazy interface (hello PowerAmp, even though it's a little better in 2.x), easy on battery, great widgets, lots of updates, the browsers are great looking and easily configurable, etc..
player pro
i use player pro it does the same a poweramp . excellent quality eq
I have tried literally everyone out there. Poweramp, Player Pro with the dsp options, n7, google music, the stock music player, installed beats audio etc. The best all around player would have to be a tie between power amp and player pro (with the Dsp addon)... but if you are into some serious sound quality and you really like tweaking and personalizing your sound use Neutron Music Player. It is seriously underrated, but the UI is kinda funky and it doesn't organize your music very well.
I just tried player pro and compared it with power amp. Player pro is nice, I love the interface but it still doesn't sound quite as good as power amp, even with the dsp add-on IMO. It's a shame because I really like the interface on player pro much better. It also seems to run smoother within android.

Jet Audio. The PowerAMP killer?

found an awesome new music player replacement for poweramp...can't wait for more updates!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jetappfactory.jetaudio&feature=search_result
how is it better then PowerAMP? (which i use and is really awesome).
i would replace it only for something lighter, more "basic" and easy to use.
all i really need is a library and a possibility to search.
as of now this seems more cpu intensive... sound setting for optimal output seems difficult and not upto poweramp or music+dsp. although lots of features and settings are present. have to keep an eye on it. definitely not a poweramp killer atm

it's personal taste really. I was a long time poweramp user too, but the 2.0 update I feel just made it too bloated. but hey to each his own.
jet audio provides way more sound tuning features for an audiophile (more than just bass, treble, and equalizer), and I'm currently using that. hopefully it gets even better with updates. if not, then i'll return to poweramp
Ttpod is a very able replacement as free player as it allows folder play as few do

Power amp vs player pro!

Hey guys I've been using player pro on my Android devices pretty much since release but It's getting to the point that I would like to see what else is out there. I've heard power amp getting kicked around these forums a lot so what's its like does it live up to the hype and if you have used both which is better?

Power amp all the way, the best graphic equalizer out there, with pre-amp as well
Poweramp all the way.
Functionality is superb .
Only gripe is album art, 99% of them have art on Windows media but only about half come up correct the rest just pick randomly.

I never tried Player Pro..
All I can share here, I tried default google player, default music player from samsung galaxy s3, and also jetAudio plus, no one can beat PowerAmp, for me..
I purchased the license, and never regret that..
U should try the trial version..
I'd pay at least double again to keep using power amp.
Power Amp for me, as it has the ability to keep the screen alive. So when I'm driving, i can glance at the handset in the cradle and see what's happening.
I like PowerAmp and I think it's the superior player overall, but I use PlayerPro for one particular reason - You can set it to only list your music by Album Artist in the library, rather than Artist, which is great if you have mixtapes and compilations.

playerpro has got a nice damn ui
playerpro +ics skin + dsp pack >>>>> Poweramp > Apollo > Stock > Others
poweramp 4 T W use it since i got my first droid!
Poweramp is an extremely well build music machine and uses its own build-in amp. + skins..
Playerpro has an easy UI and got an external dsp manager(dl. via market) * skins
Both perform very well and its a matter of taste.
Neutron is another music player(maybe the best) but very clumsy UI and hard to set up,because its has so many options..
My favorite is poweramp

I use Mortplayer!!! it has great options!!
Poweramp has the ability to read my mind...just has an awesome shuffle! just wish it worked like it use to for me. since flashing all these JB roms, dlg4 dlh4 dlh8 & li1now, all my playlist i create keep getting erased-or all the songs in the playlist are removed from the lists. very frustrating. have been searching xda for days. have no fc or issues otherwise with PA.
Hi!
I have a question about these two players and also Winamp Pro. I was using MortPlayer till now, but now it's time to change my player. I tried Winamp Pro, it's great but sometimes I find it slow when browsing folders (I have a 32 GB SD card full of music). SQ is great.
But the most important thing that I want to know is which of those uses the least resources (CPU and RAM)? I have Xperia X10i with ****ty stock gingerbread (2.3.3) (is not rooted) and I have problems with twitching, which is just going on my nerves.
Thanks
I like poweramp and I bought it a while back, though I seem to prefer a more clean/basic player. I think I like Google Play Music as a music player.

with power amp you can select different buffer sizes which should stop skipping(I presume that is what you meant by twitching?!)
I tend to go between the two. I prefer poweramp but player pro is very good - I might well go back to playepro for a bit.

Yes. Sorry, I'm not a native english speaker so I'm using google translator very often My music skips when I have less than 100 MB free RAM, and sometimes it skips all the time, but mostly on screen lock/unlock. I'm currently playing with PowerAmp and I think that I will use it as my main music app. I set the priority to highest and enlarged buffer size so no skipping for now. I will try it for a few days and probably buy it.

The sound in Pro Player is a little bit strange, while listening on my hi-fi. I gave up from Winamp Pro because I get force close very often. And PowerAmp seems to use less RAM (28MB) instead of WinampPro (34MB). But one question; poweramp doesn't have exit, so when I stop the music and "exit" from player, it's still in running apps taking 18MB !??? Is it possible to exit power amp so it's not anymore in running aps? I don't want my player to run in background while I don't use it!
EDIT: double fail! I came from Google and didn't see that this topic is for Samsung. Fail 2: I forget to turn on DSP in Player Pro. I think I will use it for now. Thanks!

What music player app are you using?

I have been a longtime user and fan of PowerAmp. It has been the best music player (IMO of course) up to this point. Well it seems
as there is only one developer that manages and writes PowerAmp. This has resulted in loss of functionality to certain degrees, and form
with using PowerAmp on any Android version 5x and higher. Apparently the developer has bitten off more than he could chew in a reasonable
fashion, leading to no updates from a V3 Alpha form in over a year. So all there is in stable form is V2 that works on Kitkat and below versions.
Using V2 on a newer Android version 5x+ results in losses of quite a few functions, but still usable in ways. This leads me to my question...
What are you using for a non streaming music app? I am looking for superb sound feedback, Edge screen functionality, and adjustable parameters
to tune sound feedback such as Hi-Res to take advantage of onboard DAC functions. All feedback is appreciated, as I look forward to your responses.
Thanks much!
I'm still using PowerAmp
PowerAmp is still my app of choice. The alpha can work directly with the HD capabilities of the Snapdragon 835.

PowerAmp. It does what I want and then some.
Hell yeah, poweramp since release here. I'm wondering why I lost the hi-res output option though coming from the N4 to the N8 though? And I used the same apk.
I've been using Media Monkey for years now. Tried and bought them all for android and always go back to Media Monkey.
PowerAmp - Nothing better
+1 PowerAmp
GoneMad Music Player
I used PowerAMP for many years, but switched to Stellio. It's a much better player in my opinion, lots of customization and the UI is so beautiful.
I've been using Rocket Player. My use case is probably different those others, though. I'm a long time iTunes user and have Apple Lossless music. Rocket Player can play those.

Neutron.
Lots of actually usable setting options... like MX Player but for audio. The claim to be for "audiophiles" brought me to it.

I am using both poweramp and the Samsung player from the app store. I like the way the samsung player integrates with the phone perfectly. It is strange that it is not pre loaded with the phone but I guess Google is trying to push theirs.

Wonder why hi-res isn't available, but was on the note 4?
Was a long time PowerAmp user but for some reason, which I can't recall at the moment, I was encountering an issue which lead me to try JetAudio.
A year later and JetAudio is my player of choice. I still use PowerAmp on my Shield Tablet but for everyday use, JetAudio never fails to impress.
Only caveat is that all of its sound plugins, excluding the default one, require you to purchase a license but you can try them before you buy.
What is the name of that music player
