[Q] PPTP VPN connection failed using the MobileAP from Dell Streak [Official ROM 407] - Streak 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two phones with the same SIM card.
1. Samsung Galaxy S2
After activated MobileAP, my iPad will be able to connect to my PPTP VPN server.
2. Dell Streak 5
However, in my DS5, the connection to my PPTP VPN server seems blocked.
Anyone face similar problem?

Hello CharlesCCO,
After reading the whole question 2 things came to my mind so i though to describe you in detail to pass you some decent knowledge which may be productive for you.
Well, there are two conditions which i think is in your case;
To start with the first, as you have 2 mobile phones and you are willing to connect vpn on both...If you are trying to use vpn on both simultaneously then it is not possible with every provider because not all the providers support simultaneous connectivity. So, i will recommend you to first try to connect vpn on different time interval on you both phone. If that does not work then, ask your vpn provider either they support simultaneous connectivity or not.
The second part is that, it might be possible that there is some problem with the configuration on your phone. So, you can try configuring it once again. It will going to help you indeed!
I have been using vpn on multiple devices and for that currently i am using hidemyass because it allows me to use 2 simultaneous connection. I am using the same on my lenovo notebook and on my iphone vpn . I have tried pptp vpn as well as l2tp vpn and both are good...
Hope this will help you...and if you have further problem with then feel free to ping me on this forum. i will give my best shot to solve your query

Webserver using mobile connection

I have never got any app that hosts web page to work when I'm using mobile connection.
Wlan connection always works and another users seem to get it working using mobile connection.
Same problem with all ROMs that I have used. How to fix?

Ummm. What network are you on? Remember most networks use NAT so save IP addresses. So your web server might only work for other users on the same subnet of your provider.
A phone isn't an ideal server. Can't you spend $1 or so per month on shared hosting on a server somewhere?
This is why it works on WiFI, as you have a dedicated IP address.
How can an incoming connection to 155.55.55.55 (for example, which covers all your network's users) know to direct an incoming port 80 (web) request to your phone? As opposed to the many other people that would try this?
I think Vodafone UK gives individual Ips though, so you could switch provider if it matters

I do know what NAT is (as it always ruins everything). I was not aware that mobile connection uses NAT as I imagined that operators doesn't put their users under same ip.
I'm not hosting something that any server could, mostly access to my phone:
files, sms, remote usage etc.
So there is no way but change operator?

T-mobile definitely uses nat, as I have tried to ssh into my phone etc. I needed to make a listen server and dial into it from the phone.
So what you are doing needs a unique ip or upnp support (which I doubt android can do). But also it needs an isp that don't block ports or anything.
We use vodafone sims for remotely connecting to remote wind farms, as it allows incoming radmin connections.

I guess that no operator supports UPnP/IGD to poke holes in their NAT.
If it's only for transferring files, SwiFTP supports a proxy server that is provided by the author. SwiFTP doesn't support SSL, and I don't think that I would want to send the plain text password to my phone over the Internet.
Another possibility is a VPN from the phone to the PC or router. Than you can start a server like kWS, Android Desktop, PAW Server, I-Jetty, WebFileSystem, etc.
VPN sounds good, gonna try when I get to home.
I can get connection using vpn.
However if there are no connection for short time or phone is restarted then vpn connection goes away.
I would like it to reconnect asap but it isn't meant to be that way :/
Couldn't find anything to reconnect vpn.
I didn't try the built-in VPNs (Android 2.1), but it works fine with OpenVPN: even when changing from Wifi to 3G it reconnects after a few seconds. You need root for OpenVPN AFAIK. It works great with VillainROM 12 which comes with OpenVPN. There's a guide at the VillainROM forums.
Thanks got it working
Lol huge decrease to battery life, suppose you don't have any hints for that?

[Q] Advice On Rooting GT 10.1

My problem:
I need to be able to connect by VPN back to my production network. The VPN connection is to a Cisco PIX 515e. Since it's not an ASA appliance Anyconnect does me no good.
My Question:
To install VPN Connections, which I understand works well with a Cisco device, I need to root the Tab. What gotchas do I need to look out for in rooting the Tab? What advice can you give? Are there other options to connect to my PIX other than VPN Connections?
Because of my IT job I have used just about every device out there, but this is my first exposure to Android and I don't want to brick the thing.
I too, would like to know this, as I am also using a Cisco PIX 515e.

[Q] VPN Connection

does anyone know how to make a working vpn connection with the touchpad?
i couldnt get one.
i have win 7
tried vnc too,
did anyone get an working vpn connection?
works for me. my proxy server uses pptp so i download pptp plugin from market and all's good.
I think if you have an ASA you can try the built in anayconnect client provided you have a mobile license activated on the Cisco otherwise use IPSEC on your gateway device. I never played with pptp on the touchpad before.
I saw this but what can I do by joining a VPN?
is there someone who can write up an a quick tutorial for the ones that dont know how to do it.
that would be apriated.
i want to control windows 7 remotly with it

Bump... Same question. Out of all the people who have recently bought the touchpad, there has to be someone out there that can give a short explanation on how to use the native VPN capability to connect to a Windows system. I have searched all over the net for the answer and have come across many unanswered forum threads.
Below are instructions I used on Win 7 to create an incoming VPN connection to make it available to be connected to.
pcworld. com/article/210562/how_to_set_up_vpn_in_windows_7. html (take the two spaces out of the link, cant post links yet since Im a NOOB!!)
Step by Step: Building a VPN (Incoming)
Step 1 Click the Start button, and, in the search bar, type Network and Sharing.
Step 2 Click Change Adapter Settings in the left-hand menu.
Step 3 Click File, and then New Incoming Connection.
Step 4 Select the users you'd like to give access to and click Next.
Step 5 Click Through the Internet and select Next.
Step 6 Select the Internet Protocol you'd like to use. (The default TCP/IPv4--the line highlighted in the screenshot below--will work fine.)

On the touchpad when using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN connection type and enter the host name, I get this error "Connection attempt has failed due to configuration issue with server"
When using the VPNC connection type, and enter the host name and password, I am prompted to fill in several fields that I dont know what to enter.
I use my laptop to log into my Win7 desktop all the time easily via the Remote Desktop Connection app. Hopefully there is something similar coming to the touchpad.
I have an openvpn subscription with strongvpn - this works well for the technically deficient peeps like myself to have an added layer of security when using windows machines in a public wifi area (i.e. hotels)
I asked strongvpn about any support for webos, and they were not sure of any workarounds to date. Any new ideas on this? I am using an open vpn (as opposed to their ptpp). They said that on rooted android devices open vpn will work following one of their tutorials.
If you are technically sound only then you will be able to set up a VPN and solve these kind of issues yourself..Average PC users like me will avoid indulging in these configurations as they are too complicated for us
Why not try an already established, reliable VPN service provider for touchpad??
you can definitely Google them and can choose amongst the choices you get..That would be far easier believe me
[Q] VPN support
I was wondering if anyone has tried vpn support on the touchpad? I am looking at using it overseas as a way to watch amazon VOD while I travel.
Edit: Found out I needed to download a free app from app catalog for PTP support. Works now when I connect to my school network. Also I found out that playon services work too on touchpad so I might try that for netflix.

[Q] Using http proxy over VPN connection?

Hello
I need to connect to my companies network using the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client. At the same time, I also need to use my companies web proxy, when I wish to access the internet and even some internal sites.
Would anyone know, how this can be configured on rooted Nexus 5 or 7 devices (with OmniRom) and on a Note 3 with stock rom, all using Android 4.4.4?
I do know that I can set a http proxy in the Wi-Fi connection settings and also for the mobile data connection. But this does not seem to have an effect, when I connect to the VPN.
Well…? Any ideas how to set this up? Would be quite a blast - company is actually considering buying iPhone 6 Plus… :crying: For rather obvious reasons, that's not my preferred solution
Thanks a lot,
Alexander

Problem doing VPN

Hi all
I've setup VPn tunnels to my office on my S9+. I've setup a PPTP from the built in client and IPsec and SSL from the Fortinet Client and none of them are working.
I'm sure that authentications are correct as I use same settings on my laptop running windows 10 and on a iPhone 7 plus.
Anyone with the same problem?
This might not help you exactly but there seems to be an issue with the stock ROM and VPNs. Adguard, which blocks ads via VPN, was also having the same issue and the devs have reported it to Samsung from what I understand. The fix will probably come during a later update since VPN issues are a bigndeal, especially for people who need to use their devices in a corporate environment.
My VPNs include one PPTP and one IPSec/PSK, and they both connect without issues on four different Verizon S9+ phones.

Hola
I just wanted to give you a heads up that Adguard dev's have figured out a temporary workaround to make the their VPN ad blocking features stick. You'll need to check their forums for the actual setting (or use their nightly release which has the setting enabled by default). I have this setting enabled and now I am able to browse ad free for the most part without issues.
I've just update the phone and it's now working yet. Besides that the problem is even worst because I can't even connect VPNs on my laptop if using the phone as hotspot.
I've reported to Samsung and I'm waiting for a call and a remote assistence but if I can get a fix in a few days the phone will be returned because this is a big issue for my work.

I used this functionality fairly frequently with my (Verizon) S8+.
I've just completed about an hour of testing with my (Verizon) S9+.
I tried the USB tether, the Bluetooth tether, and the Hotspot networking on the phone. In each case I established a network connection to the public Internet without issue.
The VPN connections from my Windows 10 system, however - using that S9+ connection - all fail now with one exception.
The PPTP, L2TP/PSK and IKEv2 connections (that all work[ed] with my S8+) will not connect using my S9+.
The one exception is the Microsoft-specific SSTP variant, which tunnels over port-443. That one will connect with the S9+ in all three networking scenarios - USB, bluetooth and Hotspot WiFi.
This seems to indicate that the new phone does not pass TCP port 1723 and/or GRE 47 (PPTP) and UDP ports 500 and/or 4500 (L2TP and IKEv2) through it's network tethering and the WiFi connections.
Bummer.
At least I can still use SSTP to get to my server resources - which is 90% of my VPN needs anyway - but the other connections are dead now.
Connections FROM the phone, using it's built-in PPTP and L2TP profiles to host networks, continue to work properly on the S9+ -- as they did on the S8+.

That is the Snapdragon version? Does it have a special ROM from Verizon or is the stock Samsung?
Maybe that is the difference

Stock Verizon (SD845 8.0) S9+ compared with a stock Verizon (SD835 7.0) S8+. I suppose the difference might be explained by going from Android 7 to Android 8, but I have no way of testing that hypothesis at this time.
(The last phone I modified was a 2013 Motorola RAZR. I've subsequently switched to using my phones as phones, rather than as a hobby. )
If someone has a different experience with employing a networked platform's VPN while using a similar phone in a tethered or hotspot configuration, it would interesting to know.
My own successes with the phone's built-in VPN (PPTP and L2TP) - as separate from the scenario described above -
apparently differ from those of others in this thread for reasons I cannot explain.
I'm in the same boat - a new S9 and can't connect to my work VPN when using the phone as a hotspot. It works fine on S8 and Iphones. Does anyone know how to fix this? This is a critical issue for me as I work remotely quite a bit.

I think there is no fix yet. I had someone from Samsung support connected to my S9 last Tuesday and they could not find anything so they escalated the problem inside Samsung but until now no further news.

CPU - Exynos 9810 - 2,7 GHz, its on Croatian network - T-Com ( T-mobile ) - locked.
New update in germany : G960FXXS1ARD1
Maybe a good patch ...
My S9 unlocked (SD) can connect to my L2TP/Ipsec VPN but disconnects within a minute or so (even if the connection is under constant use.) I have another Anrdoid 7 device (and a Windows 10 laptop) that has no problem with the same VPN/router/WiFi combination and can stay connected for hours. I don't know how to escalate this with Samsung in a way where they just don't blame my other hardware.
