[Q]from infuse to note - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

one of my friends just did the swap from an infuse. he stuck his sim card in and didnt have no data coming in or out. so he called att and ask them. they said that you cant use the grandfather data plan with any lte phone. so my question is did att give yall the same crap? if so what did you do

You need to have an lte sim card. You can keep your unlimited plan. I switched from the infuse without any problems. They just gave me a new sim.

yea im currently going through this with att. I will be keeping my unlimited data for 30 a month but they've submitted a ticket to firgure out why im not getting data as well. I get wifi but no 3g or 4g but i saved my chat session to my computer so if they tell me ive lost that plan i will take further legal action bc ive had this plan since i got my iphone 3g so im currently awaiting my data services to be restored. I thought it would be just a sim swap but i was WAY wrong lol. Still love the note but hate the loops with att

Unlock vibrant for at&t

Hi. I just got my vibrant yesterday and I got a couple question for it before I will root and unlock it. After I unlock it and put in my att sim card will I get charge or be force onto a data plan or can I used it normally without a data plan? B. Should I block incoming data and then use it. Finally C. What is this $10 dollar data plan that I read about on other thread. thank you for your answer.
I'd really like to know the answer to this as well. I've been alternating between an N1 and Vibrant on AT&T using my grandfathered 5GB dataplan. Can they recognize the IMEI?
I use the Samsung Vibrant on AT&T with a grandfathered iPhone unlimited data plan. AT&T hasn't noticed.
However, AT&T will automatically add a data plan to an iPhone if you try to use it on their network without a data plan.
so i guess ill update and try to answer your question incon. I just jump and root, unlock, and put axura 2.2.6 (very nice btw) and im using the phone well so far w/o any sms about data plan. I turn off data roaming and just used wifi since im on school t1 internet anyway. As far as them recognizing the IMEI, I'm still unclear but i've been checking my att account often and it still said that im running on w580i SE. Hope it helps any1 that looking to used this great phone on att unlocked. BTW I freaking love my vibrant. It ridiculously awesome!!!!.

[Q] AT&T 4G Speed on GS2 (HSPA+)

I am new and I could not post this as a reply to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983 in the Developers section so I created a new thread here.
I called AT&T CS and the rep told me that I needed a new sim card to access the 4g network and to call when I receive it in a few days to call back and change my iphone unlimited plan to the smartphone unlimited plan. He said to only speak to a supervisor in order to keep my unlimited plan. Just feels risky. I live in San Antonio TX and he assured me that HSPA+ is defintitley working here and LTE is actually working although I don't think there are any devices available from AT&T right now that support LTE. I currently get 3-5mbs on Speedtest and I am wondering if i will even see a difference with new sim card. Is it worth even switching to smartphone plan? I don't wanna risk loosing my unlimited plan if i am not going to see any difference in speed anyway. Any thoughts?
I have the unlimited data plan with at&t , Im getting H+ with my old 3g sim card. with up to 6mbp Supposed to be getting 7 . I dont think you need a new card for 4g? Not sure tho dont take that for fact It might be true! Most Att store employes Dont know what the hell there talking about. They do more screwing you then helping you. Keep your sim and dont tell them you are switching phones. Wate for more info from people here before you decide
Bump.. Any info?
If you search, you'll find several topics on this. Short story, you do not need a new SIM card, but in order to get the full speeds of HSPA+, you will need to provide AT&T with an IMEI number from a AT&T 4G phone. You can't use the Galaxy S2 IMEI because it's not a USA based phone, and it's not in their database. Just look up an IMEI for an Atrix or some other 4G phone (you can go to the AT&T store and look up the number on the floor model if you want) and give it to them. It doesn't need to be unique. Tell them you got an Atrix, not a Galaxy S2.
You should speak with a supervisor to retain your unlimited plan, or else they might switch you to a limited plan.
Otherwise, you can stay as you are, and you can access HSPA+, but not the full speed (assuming you're in an area that has the full speeds available).

at&t data plan question

I am putting my micro sim card from my 4s in my gs3 when it arrives.
I know data will work as both phones are hspa+, but should I have att switch my data from the iPhone plan to smartphone plan?
I am more concerned about mms, sms, and voicemail working properly....something with provisioning.
Thanks....
When I switched from the iPhone 4 to the Galaxy S2, I did the same and swapped sim cards and didn't switch the plan. A few days later the phone started having problems connecting to the internet and ultimately stopped working so I had to switch from the iPhone plan to the regular smartphone plan and it's been working fine ever since.

If you don't mind me asking, I see in your sig you have (or had) a One X. It has a micro sim but has to have the LTE plan w AT&T. When you put it in your gs3 did you switch back to the smartphone plan or leave it alone?
I ask because I had a One X for a couple of weeks and returned it. I put my micro sim back in my 4s until my gs3 arrives. I have a good friend who is an Assist Mgr with AT&T and he told me I'd be ok leaving the data plan alone because LTE falls back on hspa+. The "play it safe" in me ended up having him revert it back to the iph plan anyway as messages/emails are a critical part of my job.

Galaxy Note on Tmobile 4g Prepaid plan

So we know the Note can work on Tmobile's network.. as well as HSPA+... And for $60 tmobile offers Prepaid Unlimited everything 4g.. although 4g cuts out at 2gb then on to 3g... well just wondering if anyone's done this? Are the sim cards the same size.. and is it possible to port a phone# to a tmobile prepaid plan? I know I could possibly find this info if I dug around but I'm on the road and shouldn't be even writing this.. can't beat speech to txt..
I gotta have that speech to text app. Never saw one that good before.

I just moved from att to t-mo's $30-100min- unlim. text and data monthly 4g plan. The sim is the same size- standard. When you get your plan activated, you will be assigned a number. When you are up and running on t-mo, you need to call their porting number. They will get it rolling, and in 2-24 hrs depending, your att# will be active on the t-mo sim and your att sim will be dead. Your att account will also be dead. Your old t-mo # will be replaced by the att #. Order your sim online for $1.99 from t-mobile.com. Make sure you get the whole activation kit. You can only get the 100 minute plan online. The other 4g monthly plans you can do over the phone.
And please don't text and drive!

Hi Sashusmom!
Agree with you. Good place to post a reminder like that, considering EVERYONE who comes here has a phone, and prolly more than half "text & drive"... Driving & Texting is like suicide/homicide without "making the plans".... Its a numbers game, with every text you send/read while driving, your odds increase for a disaster...
K ::::::getting down off soapbox::::: : )
Thanks for your post, i have a few Q's:
1. Did you have to change the APN Settings?
2. And this was on a AT&T Note, not the Int'l version?
3. And what happens if & when u DO run out of min?
3B : ) Is there a way to add min?
4. Can this be done same on Int'l Note?
ty!
Ms D
Yea Im wondering about this plan as well Im guessing I need to get my phone unlocked before going to tmoble if I have the ATT note

thanks for the reply's... I think I'm gonna do this, also I am currently with Sprint paying 99 for the unlimited everything plan.. plus premium 4g..plus tax.. plus insurance makes my bill around $118... So I'd be saving a great deal on either the tmobile4g prepaid or with Straight Talk unlimited everything at $45 .. that would save me more than $800 a year!
So now I need to decide between straight talk via tmobile(see website) for everything $45 or Tmobile at 60 for the same service(I guess). Sounds like Straight Talk uses either ATT or Tmobile towers depending which phone you choose. Any experience with this anyone? Also would I be better off with a international version Note or Att version Note?... I watched a youtube video of a guy doing speedtests using straight talk and the international version of the Note and it looks great!>>>>>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsNggiZeZ6I&feature=related
Also I was sitting in my car at Mcdonalds when I posted originally.. and I was using the Microphone button to txt.. with a bit of typing.
The 4g Plans can be used for the Note? I noticed that the website said for Tmobile capable phones. Tmobile bring your own phone plans require a two year contract. SMH.

Possible to use Vibrant without a data plan?

I just got a Galaxy SIII and my mom wants to use my Vibrant as a dumbphone. When I put the SIM card in it keeps saying "searching..." for a signal. She doesn't have a data plan. Is there any way to allow my mom to use the phone just to make calls and texts?
Try calling T-Mobile. When I leave my contract, they said that my web may be taken off of my phone and I can keep my vibrant. (Unlike AT&T)
T-Mobile claims that you need a data plan to use the Vibrant unfortunately.
No data plan is needed. I use mine without one and it works just fine. Are you sure you have reception at the location you tried it? I think (I may be wrong) that it says "no sim" if it doesnt like the sim, and "searching" if its really looking for a signal.
You should just be able to swap a sim card in though. I've temporarily swapped family members cards into my vibrant with no problem.
You could use T-Mobile prepaid plan $30/month 1500minutes or text. If its an extra line, maybe its cheaper to just get her a cheaper phone that don't require data and sell the Vibrant.

The vibrant does NOT require you to have a data plan. I had my phone cut off for awhile and decided to cut it back on but with no data plan. T mobile did make me buy a new sim card though, take the phone to them and tell them to activate it without data. If its anything like my experience you will just have to buy a new sim card even though yours is perfectly fine, not sure why they make you do that. You may also just be able to "unlock" you're phone and the sim card you have now might work, I have never unlocked my vibrant so you would have to google that. Good luck ...

This may sound dumb.. but make sure the sim card is inserted in the right direction. I've been in a hurry myself a few times and put it in wrong. The first time I spent a few hours troubleshooting before figuring it out.
I felt pretty dumb afterwards lol
Also my wife uses her vibrant with no data plan just fine.
You do have to watch out though because on our plan T-Mobile refuses to block data so if you accidentally use something that pulls data using the phone data instead of wifi then they charge all sorts of overages.
The way we got around that was using the built in miui firewall to disable phone data for everything and allow Wi-Fi.

It is definitely possible. I've been doing that for the past 5 years with my smartphones (yeah I know I'm cheap). I am always around a wireless hotspot so I figured...do I really need a data plan? No!!! I am currently using a pay as you go plan with my Gnex on Tmo I only pay for the number of minutes i may need and text are like 15ยข or something. The best part about it is that I have saved hundreds of dollars not paying for a useless data plan (at least in my case). So yeah back to your question yes you can use your vibrant without a data plan. You may just have to visit your local Tmo store so they can get you on a pay as you go plan or a similar prepaid plan that does not require a a data plan. They will give you a new sim card and you may be able to keep you number but you must ask them. The guy or girl at the Tmo store will try to convince you to stay on the data plan and will probably say that it is necessary to have one on every smartphone...but that is bull**** so just ignore them...good luck. One more thing just to save you the hassle you also have the option to buy a sim card activation kit online at T-Mobile.com but I don't know how that works.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Very possible. I was on T-Mobile and just switched sim cards without telling them. I used mine without a data plan for half a year with no problems. Just makes using it on the road or while driving a little harder.
Yes, it's possible. I've used my Vibrant on pay as you go all along. I'm actually on prepaid plus the unlimited text plan (extra $15 a month).

Tmobile refuses to block data for you, really? I have two smart phones without data plans, and I simply had to just tell them to remove pay as you go data from those lines, and include something called data blocker feature (forget what exactly it's called). After that, it wasnt possible for me to use data anywhere but at a hotspot.
