Notification Center/ Status Bar Menu Tweaks & Add-On? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Does anyone know of tools or tweaks to add weather, stocks, notes, favorite apps and calls, etc... into your android status bar menu/ notification center like on the iphone?
Besides installing different Roms which lack add-on functions....

Most of what you want to accomplish will be done with individual apps.
- There are a lot of weather apps that have the option (BeWeather, Weatherbug, and others). Do a Google search for "weather in status bar android market," it'll turn up more.
- I'm not aware of a way to get stocks in the pulldown. I suggest starting with perusing the stocks apps in the market and looking at their features. There are a ton.
- StatusNotes is a great application that will allow you to make notes to yourself. They stay in the notification pulldown, and you can change its icon.
- Smart Taskbar is an example of an application that can give you quick access to favorite apps. It doesn't put them in the notification pulldown, but I'm sure there are apps that do. Also, check out Super Status Bar. It has a lot of options to theme your notification pulldown, and its functionality.
- Not sure what you mean by "calls." Shortcuts to contacts?
*This is not an attack against you or anything, but I HATE when I see "like the iPhone" questions. Soo annoying. Android is a complicated OS, but far more advanced than iOS. If you want to do something in Android, there is a way. I'm sure of it. I've been using Android exclusively for a while, and I'm still learning. It will take time to learn your way around, but once you do, you'll be amazed.

I agree.. I used android for a while, and then bought and iphone 4. Everyone is always saying that with iOS "there's an app for that!" - but guess what... THERE ISN'T! I'm IT support. Android is so much more network admin friendly than iphone when it comes to apps. I ended up selling off my iphone and going with a Galaxy S2. Best decision I ever made.

I somewhat agree. I'm guilty of it myself since I came from the iPhone. I have asked questions before and I have used the "like the iphone". But not to make it sound like "well the look what the iphone can do". But knowing there are people here that have used the iphone in the past, they may know what im reffering to when I ask.
Also, Simba..thanks for the list. I may be checking some of those you listed myself.

Palmary weather pro is pretty legit.

And to think that Android has all this cool stuff like the iPhone does, years before the iPhone did. To reiterate Simba here, not an attack on the OP, but the perception that the iPhone did anything first is my pet peeve. The only thing the iPhone did first was great marketing.

[Q] Kovicon Hybrid Icon Pack Q's .. amoung other things

So, this here would be my very first post to XDA Forums! With that being said, I think it's safe to say I'm somewhat, if not very much a noob.
But let's get into it shall we?
I recently (2 days ago) flashed the Liberty 1.5 Rom onto my D2. Previous to that I rooted my phone about two months prior using the Z4 easy root app, but shortly after realized I didn't really know what I was doing (all I wanted to do was delete, what I now know is called 'bloatware' apps off of my phone) Then I found Liberty. so beautiful! .. so I figured out how to flash it easily by dl it from my pc and copy and pasting it to my sd card then loading using D2 Bootstrap Recovery.
Okay okay, now REALLY getting to what this is all about..
I saw, and fell in love with the Kovicon Hybrid icon pack. I want it!.. I just don't know how to go about getting it! I already dl'd it onto my pc from a Droid Forum site droidforums.net/forum/xeudoxus/48683-release-kovicon-hybrid-icon-pack.html to be exact. And now I'm not sure where to go from there. Do I use MetaMorph, do I unload the .zip file from Bootstarp Recovery?
Please help!! I'd be eternally grateful!!
Thanks for bearing with my, how you say, noob..ie..ness?
It's all good. Everyone has to start somewhere.
I glanced over the article, and it looks like you'd use Metamorph. I am, honestly, to lazy to type up a full set of instructions, so if you will forgive that short falling, I will direct you over to a set of pretyped instructions:
http://droidpirate.com/2010/08/18/installing-custom-metamorph-theme/
If ya have any further questions, encounter any problems, need some elaboration, etc feel free to ask.
Oh, I understand, I too suffer from said laziness .. Okay, I am looking into it now! This may take some time ha Thanks for responding in the first place! :-D
Omgosh!!! I did it!!! Thank you sooooooo much!!! this is awesome .. now I just need to find out how to change the launcher thing, the thing that normally has the app list button, and phone button and browser .. do you have any idea how to do that???
Congradulations. And, I prob do (or atleast can find instructions if i dont), but I am not sure what you are wanting to change? To a diffrent launcher? Change the buttons that are there? Change the look/background? Something else entirely? Give me alittle more info, and I'll do my best to find you the info you need.
hahah alright, well I tried posting a rather amazing picture that summed it up completely, but since I am so new it wouldn't let me .. Okay, it's the button(s) on your main screen. The one that is normally in the middle, if you tap it, it brings up all your apps. And then next to it usually on the left is the phone button to dial numbers. Then usually on the right is a button for a browser or sms! .. Ya know???
That's usually how it is by default? Unless you mean you wanna apply a new theme to it?
Maybe try PMing me the pic/link?
Sorry to get back like a whole day later! .. I found out it's called a dock. And yeah I was just wondering if I could custom theme that, and where to find different dock icons and such .. I know I could always use Adw Launcher, but I can never really get into that.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
I dont really think you can theme the stock launcher that much. Though custom launchers - such as ADW, Launcher Pro, etc - have a wide variety of customization options.
Gilgamesh, you are pretty wrong. You CAN theme launcher2.apk
If you look at my pink steel theme it is completely different from other launcher2s. It has 4 shortcuts at the bottom 6 items in the menu and a 3d app drawer. I could even make the dock invisible if I wanted to. You can't do as much to the stock launcher (launcher2) but you can still do a bunch of customization.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
Didn't say you couldn't do it at all, just was saying the options were more limited compared to the other launchers. Being that the other launchers have far more options, far more information, imo are easier to theme, and again imo preform allot better; it would, as always, imo, make the OPs life allot easier if he focused on the other launchers.

Recommended WP8 Apps

Hi all. I just got my Lumia 920 today and am loving it so far (except for a yellow tint my hardware buttons have). I have never used any Windows phones before and had a couple of questions. Is there a decent app that will let me put a clock live tile on the homescreen? Also, does anyone know if you can put your own custom notification sounds on it? Thanks for any help anyone could offer.
You should be able to modify sounds in your Settings.
As for the LIVE Tile for a Clock? I would say, give it a Month and I am sure something will come out. Just recently we got the SDK (well, the general public). Also takes forever to get these App's accepted.

Plenty of Clock apps in the store. If they say "With a live tile" then they should have the ability to be pinned to start.
For anyone with the HTC, the HTC app may be pinned and will display a nice large digital time.
I just got my 920 Friday. I too want a live clock that has big numbers. But I tried every clock in the store and so far none have a 'live' tile. I'm assuming that some devs will make them soon now that they finally have the SDK. In fact the HTC clock states that 'due to limitations' it's not live so I expect it will probably be one of the first.
I'm hoping for the same with a calendar. The clock and the calendar are the two things I dislike about my phone. But give it a month or two.

I love this about my HTC 8X. I wish this app was available for other Windows Phones or something similar to it. Just like the other member pointed out, the SDK has only been out for a few weeks. Should start seeing some more apps popping up.

It's unfortunate that there have to be exclusive apps.
I mean, no one is going to buy an HTC phone just because it comes with a big clock live tile.
What's the benefit of exclusivity?
Why not help further the entire Windows Phone community?
I have the HTC 8X and I quite like the integrated clock / weather tile.
I would just just as happy with two, separate, tiles.

WANTED: Ditching GO Launcher!

Dear Community,
I'm happy to have found Themer and would like to fully replace all Go Products. I don't trust that chinese crap with its adware and random lockups any longer.
Questions I'd love to see answered:
1. How to enable animations like in Go Locker?
2. Advantages over all other Launchers?
3. Which is the best replacement for Go SMS?
4. Security advantages over Go Products (pretty self-explanatory given the fact that Go Products come from China)
Even though not everything might fit this forum, I'd like to have your experiences as detailed as possible.
Thumps up will be given. Trust me.
Update: Themer looks cool, but doesn't seem to be the right option. I want 3D and I would like to place my app icons on my home screen like I used to. Any other Launchers you can recommend? C'mon, don't be shy!
PLEASE ANSWER. Thank you.

Hi SecUpwN, let's see:
1. We've just started, lock screen integration will arrive in the future once we are more stable.
2. The biggest advantage is that we offer the only one-click theming experience. Other launchers do allow you to add themes, but then you'll always need other 3rd party apps. With Themer, everything is included.
3. Hard to say, that's personal preference, but there are many great alternatives out there.
4. Well Themer is being developed in Irvine, CA. We can assure you that we only release quality, non-risky features and updates. The only push notification we use is one to "show off" your theme, which helps spread awareness for Themer and also helps keep it free. It can also be turned off.
Hope this has helped answer all your questions, feel free to ask more if you need
Thanks for answering, @ThemerSupport! How can I have a cool theme by Themer and place my own apps onto the home screen? I'm REALLY looking forward for that lockscreen feature! Having it, I could use Themer as an ultra-stylish locker and have a fresh home screen with my own apps on it. Aww man, maybe next year..
You can still add your own app shortcuts by longpressing the app in the drawer, then dragging it where you want on the home screen.
Same thing with any widget.
Of course, this likely ruins the aesthetic of the theme.
You can go to Menu > Advanced Settings > Unlock Widgets
And move things around to accommodate your additions.
Furthermore, you can just add an extra home screen and have your way with it!

I decided to ditch Themer as long as it doesn't provide basic features like NOVA launcher. It's sad, but without beging able to add icons to the desktop without destroying the theme, I don't want it. I'm using NOVA now - and it works just awesome.

[MOD][XPOSED] TickerToast BETA! Turns toasts into notifications in the status bar.

I am done with this. Module discontinued. I'm done fighting with that icon.
This was initially a request from http://www.reddit.com/user/Angelic276 on reddit. I decided it would be neat so put some time into it. Please note this is still quite buggy and the beta isn't up there just cause it sounds cool. Honestly, this was done as an experiment, and I don't think it will ever be perfect.
Doesn't work:
-Icon
-Sometimes toasts that are in a long "line up" will be delayed, this usually occurs after three or more toasts in succession.
-Code sucks
-?
All the goodies can be found on the repo (source, download, etc.): http://repo.xposed.info/module/ryebread761.tickertoast
Exactly what I was looking for. Great job.
This actually sounds like a good mod. I'd like to see it grow :good:
Seems to work pretty well. I dont really mind toasts, personally, I'd rather somehow disable tickers in various apps (Is this possible?)
Anyway... one app that it didnt work with was "Rescan SD Card". It simply crashes the app, which is an app that only has two toast msgs as 'interface'.
Just so you could fix the bug easier... unless I'm alone with this.
I'm not quite sure I understand why toast notifications became popular when notifications are the standard. I hate feeling like I have to read it fast or I'm going to miss something important. If you want to show a brief message that removes automatically, just cancel the notification bar one.
There always has to be something in an OS that causes anxiety, I swear its like a OS rule that all systems have.

Like, for example, if someone writes me on Skype, it will show a ticker of the name and msg of the sender. I'd rather just it shows the skype "new message" notification icon. Some apps have a "privacy" option - alot dont. Not that I've any idea whether or not this is something that could be done with xposed, it was just a thought... a bit offtopic too, I'm afraid

Ah, that does sound extremely annoying and breaks with normal Android behavior. May I could recommend a replacement via Tasker where it detects Skype message and creates a fake one of its own.

Hard to expect Microsoft to do anything right. Their whole app is a mess but sadly they make sure to keep any alternative clients from existing or working properly.
The tasker alternative seems like a good idea! Can you point me in a direction on a guide how to do this? (I dont wanna keep the offtopic going in poor Ryebread's thread )

I figured it would be a simple search, but this is the best I could find to get you started: http://androidforums.com/tasker/648438-tasker-can-not-detect-gmail-notifications-s3.html
Idea would be to detect notification, then see if detection still works after blocking the notification using Gravity Box's notification block feature. I know blocked notifications still show up in the OS notification queue when blocked on my Kit Kat ROM. Then create a notification from tasker that has Skype's icon and only launches the Skype app.

What the hell!?! I just saw my first clickable toast from the Gmail app... "Show new email from XDA..." which showed up when a thread subscribe email arrived while I was reading a message.
Really google, what is wrong with you. Now toasts are not toasts, stay on screen, and are clickable? Just show a freaking notification or something native to the app. I stared at it for a few seconds waiting to know what the crap was going on.
OP: sorry for pooping on your thread. Best of luck to you, nuke all the toasts.
On my S4, the notification showed for about as long as a toast, and then it disappeared on its own.
Ya, that's supposed to happen. Do you like that or should I add an option to have the notification stay?

The problem with toasts is that the user can miss them, so I assumed your app would make the toasts appear as notifications and linger until the user dismisses them. I guess the idea behind your app is, basically, to put the toast at the top of the phone so that the user doesn't obscure it with his own fingers while doing other stuff. But since we now have Burnt Toast and Buttered Toast, toasts have become more visible, so I actually find a brief display in the status bar easier to miss than a Burnt and Buttered toast.
In that case, yes, I would like the option to have toasts get converted to notifications so that they remain until manually dismissed. That way, you never have to worry about missing a toast if you look away from your phone. As a further refinement, the user could choose on a per app basis whether that app's toasts will be 1) left as system default-style toasts, 2) appear briefly in the status bar, or 3) get converted to a notification that the user has to manually clear.
Love it, i really hate toasts because they block my view and are annoying.
Would be great if you get the icons to work!

There is 2 apps in xposed to control toast. Untoaster stops toasts and enhanced toast which might be exactly what you are looking for blocks certain unwanted toasts.
Nice module. This is exactly what I was looking for. It would be perfect if you could get the icons to work. It would also be nice for some users to have the option to turn toasts into notifications. Thanx for sharing this.

I didn't want it to die this way either. There became a point though where the code was so bad, that doing anything with this felt like a fight. This is something I did in my free time for fun. I usually enjoy coding, and making modules, but this one became more and more of a chore. As such, I decided to end development and move on.

Please add option to disable Twitter Notifications.

I barely use Twitter as it is, but with Themer installed, every time I install a new theme for Themer I get a notification to "Show off your theme!".
Please give us an option to disable this. I share my Themer Themes by, get this, SHOWING my phone to folks in person. I share Themer with everyone I know with an Android phone as it is.
Just one minor annoyance that needs an option to remove.

I see that that the sharing theme to twitter intrusion is still there. I really do like this app, and I'd pay to make it go away. I realize you want to keep this free, but that notification is REALLY annoying. I know it's not exactly nice to ask devs for ETA's, so I won't.
But you seriously need to get rid of that nag screen. Thanks.
Little tip for Themer here... If you annoy your users, they are far less likely to share it in the way that matters, by showing it to folks in person and helping them install it. My Android life is completely separate from my real life, I don't recommend apps, themes, or roms, unless I'm asked for recommendations. I for sure would never post, "OMG! Rookies at the theme I am running on Themer right now! LOLZ" on any social network. I now no longer use twitter at all, just Facebook and G+.
You want the word spread? I've spread it my way. You want support? Sell the app, its good enough to sell for months now. Annoy users with a free version with ads and such all you want, but seriously, annoying those of us that have been using it for a year?

Oh, by the way folks, you can long hold on one of the notifications and uncheck notifications from Themer all together. Sad we have to do it that way, as we could miss "important" notifications, but it is worth it to me.
