Account sync keeps turning off???? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

My Account Sync setting seems to like to turn itself off randomly. Is this happening to anyone else??
Some days Ill get my Gmail and Facebook notifications just fine, but sometimes Ill notice I haven't gotten anything all day, go into Settings, and sure enough the Sync option is unchecked once again!
Im on the stock 2.3.4 OS that came with my GS2, all Ive done was root it, nothing else. I don't have any sort of settings on that disable my data or anything that Im aware of, all Ive got is the Power Saving option which turns off my GPS when the battery drops below 30% but this shouldn't affect syncing my Google and Facebook accounts should it??
Last time I updated Gmail in the Market last month, I noticed a lot of comments that this was happening to all sorts of folks so I assumed it was a bug in the latest version. It was just by random chance I happened to go into the Account settings to look at something and noticed it was turning itself off..

Check to see if you have power save turned on. It will turn things off to save battery.
Settings, power save mode.

AHA! I could've sworn all I had checked was GPS but yep my sync was checked too. Durrrrrr.

I have the same issue, but the question is; when the phone gets charged isn't auto sync suppose to turn back on? Mine stays off (t989 for me)

Mine was the same so I just turned it off altogether.

After Gingerbread update Motoblur using Excessive data

After upgrading to Gingerbread I noticed that my phone is now using about 500-800mb a day. I notice my battery is is dead in 5 hours. I tracked it down to:
com.motorola.blur.service.main:10012
Its using 1mb about every minute.
I tried adjusting a few settings nothing.
I'm on Bell Canada, is anyone else noticing this? My corporate sync also stopped working.
If anyone could check their phone and let me know it would be muchly appreciated.
My corp sync works push mail stopped, its configured correctly ... you'll just have to trust me. The manual sync works.
I updated last night and I'm having the same problem.
Basically either I leave background data on, and com.motorola.service.com eats through my battery and downloads 100megs an hour, or I turn background data off, and everything is fine, but I don't get emails anymore.
Does anyone know what's going on? My phone was working great before, and I wouldn't have willingly traded up for a new color scheme and profiles (useless), if it meant I lost my email, and didn't even get new Swype or Chat...

Having an odd issue with the Rezound

This has been like this for the past several roms I've ran. Basically when the screen is off, I do not receive text messages. When I turn the screen on, I get all of my notifications basically instantly. Is there a setting I'm missing here that shuts off connection when the screen is off? Right now I'm on venusaur rom.

This happened to me once when I somehow had sync over 3G disabled, AND have the setting to disable wifi when the screen sleeps enabled
Check account & sync in settings, and check the advanced wifi menu in settings as well.
I always leave wifi off because I have an unlimited plan. So I do have it so wifi shuts off when the screen is turned off and to never auto turn on. Not sure if that has anything to do with not receiving texts.
In accounts and sync I do not see any sort of option to sync over 3G. Overall its enabled though.

SMS has nothing to do with wifi or data. So it shouldn't affect the normal texts coming in.
MMS that is a different story.

Thats what I thought which is why I can't seem to think of what would be causing this. Sometimes it comes through four-five minutes late and other times it will not come through at all until I turn the screen on. This has only been happening relatively recently and I'm in a constant five bar area.

I have the same issue...but I am completely stock, unrooted.
(I am also in a great reception area, and this has started only in the past 2 weeks)

Yeah that sounds exactly like what's up with my phone. Past two weeks is a very good time frame for when this started happening.
I've been having this for a while regardless of rom :/
Are you in some kind of "power-save" mode?
No power save mode that I know of.
Best advice I can think of is to run a ruu again. Then clean install a Rom. That way you will be starting fresh.

Are any of you running anything like Juice Defender? Maybe you can download Juice Defender to help you find the option to allow screen off operations.
Alternatively, you can try going to: Settings, Power, Power Mode, change to High Performance.
> using my Rezound/Vigor
No Juice Defender or anything here.
And I just noticed this. I went to send a text message and turned the screen off. I went to check twenty minutes later to see if there was a reply and the timer was still going. After a few seconds of the screen being on it said text sent. This is a huge issue.
Yo
Did you try Gorillas suggestion above?
My Zound sleeps too deeply for me unless
Power setting is High Performance mode.
Worth a try....
I don't know where that option is. He said it was under power settings, but there is no option to select modes from there.
.
Nick,
Check Settings - Power - see 3rd item down from top "POWER MODE",
choose it and see Economy, Norbal, and High Performance.
Choose High Performance and your radios will behave better, at least
mine do.....
That option isn't there. When I click power it goes, battery status, battery level, battery use and fast boot.

Push Notifications Don't Work With Screen Off (Gmail, Talk, Voice, etc.)

Recently I disabled the best wi-fi performance option (I enabled it on accident while messing around with settings on launch day) which obviously increased my battery life dramatically by actually allowing my phone to go into deep sleep. But now I hit a new issue.
Before I go on, I want to state that I DID apply the SmartSync fix and that my data IS working while my phone is in deep sleep.
New emails I receive with Gmail app do not get pushed to my phone as they should. They are anywhere from 5-15 minutes late if they even show up at all. If I happen to turn my screen on, automatically I get the notification of new emails.
Is anyone else having this issue with Gmail or any other app? I find it strange that while I have data (wi-fi/3g) enabled and working with the screen off, emails still come in delayed.
Any help would be appreciated. I have searched around and most of the answers I came up with (regarding HTC devices like the One X) had to do with SmartSync messing up the connection or someone not having the notifications enabled. I'm at a loss 0.0
EDIT: I tested this with Google Talk had my main account up in Gmail and in another browser windows my other Gmail account. Added both of them, talked to my self, if my device screen was off, I would either get it 1-2 minutes late or not at all. Once I turned my screen back on, the notifications poured in. I also tried the same scenario with my main Gmail account logged off (in case it was canceling out the messages to my phone, which it wasn't) and I had the same outcome. I edited the title to reflect that this isn't a Gmail only issue.
EDIT 2: Did more tests, I tried turning Wi-Fi off completely and running the same tests as above to my surprise everything worked as expected. I initially thought it might be because of my 5Ghz Wi-Fi band, so I tried it all again on my 2.4Ghz channel -- had the same problems as before. Somehow the issue pertains to your screen being off and Wi-Fi being on.
EDIT 3: I just tried streaming Pandora and shutting the screen off (maybe WiFi WAS somehow shutting off) Pandora kept playing no problem. I messaged myself on Talk, got the notification right away. This is very bizarre 0.0 But it might confirm this only happens when the phone is in deep sleep mode... Still doesn't answer why it doesn't happen on 3G or why notifications sometimes still come through.
EDIT 4: Still no fix but I have discovered that for some reason if the screen is off ANY data doesn't go through. Let me explain better:
If I have some thing like Pandora running then it will continue to run once I shut my screen off. But if WiFi isn't being used and I turn my screen off and then lets say I try to connect to it with Cerberus or ping it from my PC or something it will not even though the router reports it as connected.
Very strange behavior.
This is interesting...maybe the wifi performance toggle is associated to the smartsync, and all?.....I will say that with it unchecked I am getting some really really good battery life here compared to previous phones....but I also notice at times when emails are not pushed till I wake the screen during the day....Also the fact my wifi doesn't automatically reconnect to my house when I get back from work till I wake the screen...little things like that...
Havent messed with the best performance setting but will try it today now...

Have it, and it is unchecked. That's the weird thing, wi fi doesn't actually turn all the way off because SOMETIMES I do get the push notifications (late, however).

what is the smart sync fix?
When I installed this app, my cpu reduction and frame rate reduction was enabled. Does that mean this is standard with this phone. Does using this app to disable those setting improve the performance?
Issue continued overnight, tried various other things and nothing seems to fix it. I want to get my notifications but I don't want to destroy my battery life xD is anyone else having this issue?

It's definitely not a hardware problem because if that was the case the phone wouldn't work with wi fi almost at all. My wi-fi connection is rock solid even when the screen is off, just for some reason it won't notify I have the messages until the screen gets turned on.
I did some tests on my gf's stock phone and she's having the same issues, I told her to do some tests on her parents wi-fi when she goes there. I wonder if sgt slaughter has any news.
Btw if you definitely need them on time and need to be on wi fi but don't care about battery life that much just enable best wi fi performance.

Actually more like a Smart Sync break ... The built in settings/app put your data connections to sleep when your phone goes to deep sleep; this is done to save battery when phone not in use for extended period.
Some folks hate losing the data connections so a flashable "fix" is available for the "problem" ... Look around; you'll find it
Sent from my EVO using XDA
its a sense problem, there's a thread in the one x forums on how to fix it. I'll post when I get home if I can find it. it shuts down to a 'power save' mode after a while plus after midnight or 11 or something.
Just wanted to update that I installed a custom rom that contains the WiFi fix mentioned and although my WiFi doesn't seem to drop how it did before (at least after one day) my notifications are anywhere between 4-10 minutes late on average through WiFi. This seems to be across the board for Exchange email, Gmail & Google Voice.

Yes my setup also had the wi-fi fix, I can even see my phone connected to the router when the screen is off, the connection is strong.
I had a suspicion it was probably the basic transfer rate of the browser and for some reason I could not adjust this on my fancy 100 dollar router with dd-wrt flashed onto it so I set up a repeater with my older router on stock settings. It seems like the notifications are coming through better now (albeit not instantly) but at least I don't have to turn my screen on every time. It might be a placebo effect or just luck (because at times it does work even with my other router).
EDIT: Ignore the italicized sentence. It was just a stroke of luck, the problem came back.
I'm out of ideas at this point xD
I am having a similar issue as well.
I am rooted and running Fresh Evo LTE 5.1.1 which has the "Disabled SmartSync deep sleep mode" already installed. I also leave my WiFi off (for the same reason as the OP outlines - messages are just plain not arriving or if they do it's after I turn the screen on).
I use gtalk as my primary form of communication on my phone and what seems to be happening is messages from my two closest friends are never arriving. It's hit or miss but seems to be ~45mins after my screen turns off that they send a message and I never get it. One is on Sprint on my family plan and the other is on Verizon. The weird thing is that if I look in my gmail > conversations the messages aren't there either.
I haven't been able to verify any SMS messages that I haven't received but I have noticed that my email notifications seemed a bit wonky but this issue may be fixed with changing my "push" hours (which is retarded to have factory set to only push email between 8am - 8pm).
Question for the smart kids in the class: When does the phone reach "deep sleep"? Is it around ~45mins after the screen turns off?

I also have the dual core mod which I BELIEVE sets my deep sleep right away which is probably why I have the problem more often than you do. One question just so we can start gathering facts large scale, if you're on 3G do you have the problem still? What if you turn 'best wi-fi performance'?

Correct - I have this problem on 3G. I run on only 3G because the problem is more prevalent on WiFi, but still very common on only 3G.

On. When I turn it on it pretty much eliminates the issue, it acts just like 3G. But for me 3G is almost perfect (a couple seconds of delay but I can deal with that). Remember though that if you leave it ticked on it will destroy your battery life.
WiFi is on, best WiFi performance is on as well.. I'll run it this way a couple of days and see if I can replicate the problem.
I just wanted to say that I've been having similar issues. I have tried turning on best wifi performance, but I don't think that is helping. For one thing, when I have that turned on, when I wake the phone, the wifi is often times not connected, and it shows 3G. Then it will connect to wifi shortly after I wake the phone. On top of that, I'm still not getting notifications on time. I was notified of an email when I woke the phone that actually came in 10 minutes earlier. Hopefully HTC/Sprint is aware and working on a fix.
Still no fix but I have discovered that for some reason if the screen is off ANY data doesn't go through. Let me explain better:

android tablets and notifications

now this may be a dumb question since i don't consider myself new to android, i've changed three android tablets so far, rooted my phone, installed and tweaked dozen of roms on it, so i know some relativelly average things about android, but this one puzzles me:
on both my tablet and phone i have facebook and gmail applications. they are basically the same .apks since i have a backup of them on a sd card and if i format one device, i often use restire the apps from the sd card.
and you know how you get an instant notification on your phone if you receive a fb message or an e-mail? that doesn't happen on my tablet. it seems that a couple of minutes after i turn off the display on my tablet, it drops the wifi connection (a power save thing i suppose).
is there any way to ensure a constant wifi connection on my tablet so that i receive email/fb notifications in real time and just not after i turn the display on?
this may be only an unchecked box in my network settings, but i really haven't noticed it
thanks for your help on advance

Go to Settings > Wireless & network settings > Press Menu > Advanced, and change Wi-Fi sleep policy to Never (or Never when plugged in, to avoid drain your battery)

noup... i gave up after a few days... the battery drain is too big... even when it's pluged in, the charging process takes a lot since i'm almost constantly using it, in such a case, it almost doesn't charge

U can use that app to like turn on Wi-Fi every half hour for a minute or so to check for notifications, and then turn off.

hey... i need help with tasker... i seem to have programmed it to connect to wifi every 30 minutes, to check facebook, gmail and tapatalk, and the profile is on, according to on/off switch in tasker itself. but when i check notification icon, it says "no active" profiles.
also, i would like to write you how my profile looks like, but i don't know how i realize that tasker is a powerful app, with a lot of options, but they seem so complicated when trying to adjust them. :/

Hmm...first try installing tasker as a system app and see if that fixes it. Also check accessibility settings as it may be listed there.
If the above doesn't work then it may be a problem with your profile.

Issue with cfroot and notifications on wifi

Ok, this is a good one. I'm a long time root/custom ROM person all the way back to a G2 and I've not heard of something like this happening.
I got an S5. Rooted it successfully with Chainfire's auto root as described here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaZvtGwwziQ
All was well, but after a few days, I began to notice that I was not getting notifications regularly. After quite a bit of testing, and here is where it gets really weird, I was able to determine that:
-When the phone is connected to wifi and
-When the screen is off
I get NO notifications. Gmail, Facebook, Life360, nothing comes through. I've waited 5+ minutes to get one, and nothing. Then, when I turn the screen on, they all come flooding in at once. If I disable wifi, notifications come through fine. This makes no sense to me. SMS and MMS however, work fine regardless of root and/or wifi connection.
I spent quite a bit of time with a TMO rep who did all she could do to no avail. She said I should return the device for another one, which I did today.
On an unrooted, brand new device (no apps installed either), I could now get these notifications when connected to the wifi. Strange, but ok. So I rooted it, and the SAME problem began again. No notifications when on wifi.
I must have sent 30+ emails to myself trying various things to get it to work on wifi, but no dice.
I checked to make sure wifi stays on when the phone is alseep, and it was.
I checked the Samsung push service was active, and it was.
I am on the ANCH update.
I am seriously stumped here. I suppose my next step is to unroot it and see if the problem goes away. I am really surprised that no one else has reported this!
Thanks so much for your time and input. This one is killing me...
Chris
Well, I just took the NE6 software update via Kies, and nothing has changed.
I should also have said in the first post that when on wifi, and the screen is ON, all notifications are instantly delivered.
/sigh
Again, thanks for any input.
Chris
Have you tried different wifi access points? You could have background data disabled under power saving mode. I remember seeing an option to block notifications while the screen is off. I can't remember exactly where the option is located tho.

Thanks for the thoughts. Really appreciate the input.
I have not had a chance to try other wifi access points yet, but will do that today I hope.
I did check all the power saving modes, and all were disabled.
I'll look for an option to block notifications when the screen is off, but it seems like if that was turned on, then I wouldn't get notifications regardless of being on wifi or not.
Interesting note though: Last night, on wifi, I did get notifications for some emails. So it does "work", but they are very, very delayed. I'll try and determine how delayed today as well, but for now, I will just leave wifi disabled
Again, thanks very much for any input.
Chris
Did this ever get fixed? I've been experiencing the same issue it's driving me nuts. I have my phone set to not sync, I'll manually sync but it will take several minutes, if ever to sync. My phone is getting good wifi speeds between 60-90mbits down, and I can browse the Web without delay but stuff that syncs... Facebook, Gmail, etc. All have an excessive delay.
