[UOT?] Overscroll - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have cooked several themes for my gnote in the UOT, however the overscroll glow doesn't look/function correctly. It appears as an arc that is more intense at the middle of the screen. Anyone else having the same issue? I want a complete glow accross the entire screen. Hopefully someone knows what I am talking about, and has a solution for me. Thanks.

Great answer, wish I would have thought of that!
I think it has something to do with the screen size of the Gnote, and the kitchen not supporting that size.

It relates to the actual png (icon) used. There are two effects: overscroll_edge.png and overscroll_glow.png. Overscroll_glow.png is the item in question. Nearly all overscroll glows I've seen are designed this way, to highlight the middle. You'd have to find one that gives the full effect. I guess you could colorize it yourself, and distribute it evenly; I haven't tried. I happen to have an orange one to demonstrate the difference.

EDIT: I forgot to mention where they are located. Once it has been enabled, both files are in the framework-res apk.

[Q] Which png is it for the progress bar?

Cannot figure out which png it is in framework ( I think its in here) for when you are installing or downloading something. Its the solid one, not the stripped one. Anyone? Thanks in advance.
umm it is in the drawable as three seperate png i just cant think of what they are called right now
wait I think it is actually called Progressbar_intermediate1.png 2 and 3 under res/drawable-mdpi

those I already know about. I meant the one that is a solid color for when installing something or downloading. you see it moving along. its a solid orange by default
That is controlled in the resource.arsc file. I haven't figured out how to edit it yet but the color is Def in that file, if I just switch that file only with one I got from an in credible. Theme, it changes

would you mind sharing this file? And where is it located? And if I copy the file over that you give, what else changes?
yea there is only one problem with using this file that I have come across so far and its kind of big. The text color on all buttons is white so it cant be seen. The file itself is located in the framework-res.apk. I was using a program called winmerge to go through and the whole file is completley different but I havent figured out how to edit it nor how to read exactly what is says. I just formatted my laptop and put Ubuntu on it so as of right now I cant get the file to you, You can either search for Indigo_Blue Theme for CM6 here on XDA or blackle(google). The theme is in all hdpi but still has some good looking pngs you can use in your theme. I have resized all of them as well for mdpi but for some reason I get errors when trying to apply them all. If you cant find it I will send it to you here in a little bit though. I have been doing alot of reading and messing my phone up trying to figure out the best way to theme. For one I want to take the spinner out of the nfl program and put it in my theme but Im a long way from that. If you like I can send you over my notes as I come up with more discoveries of what it controlled where and how to edit its defaults to what I want.

[Q] text bubble color...

So... Has anyone figured out if there is a way to change the text bubble color on GB roms? I don't have any experience with xml, so I haven't the slightest where to start going about doing that? Thanks in advance...

Haha. No. The sms bubbles in a conversation. I want to know if there is a way to change the colors.
Check in mms.apk
sent from my bolt of thunder
They are located in the mms.apk. There is two .9.png files that you could edit in order to change the colors. There is a thread here on xda that explains how to edit .9.pngs if you need help.
Where can I find that thread? And I'm guessing that's going to require a bit of adb and xml knowledge?

I am not sure about needing any knowledge in adb or xml editing as I have not tried editing the bubbles the RIGHT way yet. I did manage to change color though.
How did you change the colors? I usually just roll with whatever the theme I'm running does, but my girl is nagging me about changing the colors.

Decompile the apk. Find the two 9.pngs. open them in your image editor. Select the whole image then move each side of your selected box in one pixel so that the black lines are on the outside of the selected area. Don't change any pixels in the outer edge of a 9.png at all. Change the color of your selected area to whatever you want. Save it. Run it through the x9patcher ( I think that's what it is called) and then get your patched 9.pngs from the done folder and drag and drop them into your apk that should already be in a flashable zip file. Flash in clock work and your done.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
If only changing the color, and its a solid color, I generally just load the .9 images in paint.net and use the simple hue/saturation adjuster. This saves the pain of having to patch it and no worries about affecting the outer pixel layer that controls the sizing. Have not had a problem with this method yet.

[THEME][ZIP][HoneycombStyleDialer&Contacts]

Well I did it again, More Dialers and more Honeycomb. This will probably be my last dialer theme for a while. I will eventually look into recoding the layout for hi-res landscape, I'll bet ya, Dell just copied the one from 160 density, and never tested it.
Anyways here it is, I actually started on 160, but had to build on 240. All dialpad keys are visible at 240dpi in portrait mode. In high res, landscape dialpads will be cut off as usual. Best I could do for now. You'll just have to rotate to portrait I guess.
You can change the backgrounds of course by following my Tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215898
the screenshots in this first post will be at 160dpi, the 240dpi will be in the 2nd post.

for future use, thanks!
update:HCPhoneThemev2 (without glow): icons updates, jog tabs now HC Style, and in call buttons now stock instead of transparent( just mute, bluetooth , and speaker).
update: Aug. 16 - HC Theme with Glow uploaded. Its slightly involved to add glow, and since I resized buttons to fit all densities, you'll noticed the pressed square effect, that's about the best I can do. Glow Color is actually much brighter, but the dark background darkens it. All icons updated in Glow and Regular version. Also added stylish highlight for tab selections.
I have tried to change the layout at hdpi to fit in the landscape dialer, I dont think this can be done via .XML, although it sure looks like it. the .xml calls out the Button Grid Layout as well as height and widths, I have tried changing them all, even ones I knew were not correct. Best I did was change the total layout allowed for buttons, but buttons size would not change. I saw in the .smali code where it calls to get height and get width, so I would think .xml controls it. Even I change the .png sizes it would still center them in the same spot in the layout I think.
Oh well, portrait is more than fine with me. I usually use my phone in portrait and try not to rotate it because Im on 220 lcd density right now.
Looks great @ 180 density.
Thanks!

working on it, noticed a lot of icons still needed top be updated as well, should have some screenshots later today.
OP updated, Glow Version ann also updated many icons for both version.
this was good to help me learn how to create glow effect, I may be able to do another one with a very thin effect, like an out line, but I like the larger effect my self. It doesnt matter a whole lot to me, I was satisified with original version.
Waiting to hear your feedback.
would like to see this on a lighter background if anyone has one.

The blury .9 png's can still be fantastic! Reminiscent of a lightsaber. Maybe Star Wars themed over HC could be cool
ok, I'll check it out later
I can get back, call and voicemail to glow as well as voicecall in landscape. I could make the glow effect smaller so you dont see the edge of the button and looks cut off... would probably be better, this is a really bright blue, but doesnt look as bright with dark wallpaper. I dont think I could make the glow effect on the numbers so small that it doesnt get cut off, because the numbers and letters take up so much room it would have to be a 1 or 2 pixel glow and that would still probably get cut off, unless I did similar to the bottom buttons and just use a generic gradient bubble background, but that doesnt look as nice.
Ill keep playing around with it when I have time, based on everyones feedback.
Seeing as how, CRT animation and gingerbread Overscroll looks a bit too involved for me. Quite possible for someone like DJ or Fards.
edit: idea: how about changing the bottom 3, .9.pngs to not touch the button edge, and have a transparent horizontal oval in the center, so it doesnt overshadow the icon. And.. I could try to edit the dialpad keys to "round" out the glow so again it doesnt look so boxy. I'll give it a shot when I have some time.
progess made.. sort of
heres what I got, changed quite a few things,
lets hear what you think, I will look into making the glow.png oval instead of square, maybe that will help.
and the .9 button glows area gamble, some will look nice, others too large, etc.
change jog tabs to HC style. also change in call buttons such as speaker back to stock, just those 3.
next release will likely be last for this project. probably because I use phone so little and would like to focus on other things.

[Theme] BNB For Eclipse 0.4

To begin... make a backup 1st.... not responsible for damages while left in the parking garage.. enjoy the game!
This theme was made with permission of "thebowers". It's his creation. I brought it into GB land for the X2. I don't know if I did everything he did but I can tell you that I have made image edits galore for resizing purposes and to get all the new GB images not yet themed. I have also edited the crap out of a lot of xml's so things should work 100% smoothly out of the box. I have also incorporated some inverted apps which, I had nothing to do with. Credit there goes to thebowers, ecsnead and B-Boy. I themed the Phone and I started on the other 2 but, then, I saw someone else already did pretty much the same thing. So, I just used that. No need to waste time. That would be bouchigo. You can find him on rootzwiki. I also made a few apps myself because once I got going on 0.2.2, I got carried away.
Also, I changed the boot animation. It matches the theme oh so well. Credit there goes to Versatile1 because he made it.
Before we begin, I will list all the apps I have included. For ease of use, I highly recommend getting rid of any app on the list from your phones data folder first. For example, if you downloaded Facebook from the market, remove it from your data folder. Not saying you HAVE TO, just putting it out there if you run into issues, you know how to fix them.
Also for the market... this one you do HAVE to do... First, verify that you DO NOT have a vending app in \data\app!!!!! If you do this will not install!!! You will need to uninstall updates before flashing... Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>"ALL" tab>Market>Uninstall Updates
Will it break your phone if you don't do that? No, it just won't install a market... at all!
Lastly, I have taken the time to guide every .9.png file in the framework and in every app I touched. What this means to you.... If you want to make other changes, everything will decompile and recompile without error. Of course you need to add the dependencies if your editing systemui or settings but thats a blur thing. Not something I did.
Now.. onto the part anyone actually cares about..
The theme is located here.... No.. over there ----> ok its actually back there <------
If you see any issues or think of anything else to add let me know.
Here's whats included
framework
SystemUI
Calculator
Camera
Contacts
Dialer
Phone
Facebook (Inverted)
Gallery3D
Gmail (Inverted)
Google Quick Search (Inverted)
Keyboard (updated from 2.2 to be darker)
Settings (Inverted)
GTalk (Inverted)
Market (Inverted)
Google Voice (Inverted)
Some of these apps will be called dark or black in the app drawer. Example: Facebook = Dark Facebook

Good stuff man. I noticed a few small things that I thought I would share, nothing deal breaking or anything like that.
1.) I noticed when you're in the middle of unlocking the phone theres like a slight white bar in the unlock tab, this doesn't occur when you switch between silent and audible mode.
2.) When you're in a call and say if you're on speaker and drag down the notifications the call information is pretty hard to see maybe a lighter shade of black?
3.) Some of the press colors are still orange/blue.
4.) When downloading from a browser the status bar is blue opposed to red and you can't read what you're downloading (b on b issue).
Still one slick theme regardless! Thanks!
Very nice work xkape. Appreciate the quick turnaround for 0.4.
I noticed there is something unthemed in the blacked out gmail. When in your inbox an you check an email and click on the "labels" button that interface is not blacked out, it is black type on a white bg. When you scroll on this screen the entire screen blacks out and you cannot read your labels. Not a deal breaker by any means but I am just throwing it out there.
Sounds like the colorchachehint is ok (thats what makes it black when you scroll) but the bg and text need to be switched. I'll take a look at that.

1) Should be an easy fix
2) Just saw that. I tested to see if it was in frame or phone and im pretty sure I just missed it in the framework. I'll find it.
3) Theres just so many of the damn things. Hard to get em all.
4) Never used the stock browser before. I use Dolphin HD. So, this one probably won't get fixed.
I'm adding one... in the phone when you are looking at a specific number in recent. if you click on it for "call details" that screen needs fixed. I think Im also going to darken the text of the unselected tabs. I thought the grey I chose was darker than that.
And by the way.. thank you both for pointing those out to me. I can't fix the theme and make it better if I don't know it needs to be.
I use boat browser mini.
I did some investigationg into the ongoing black on black issue in the status bar. Each app sets that seperately. The only way to fix that would be to either a) make the whole things white again with black text or b) edit each app that points at a black color instead of a white one for text. I will edit it for phone app and for dolphin.
Nice theme, I haven't found anything I don't like. The boot animation is sweet too.
I've never been a fan of just black and white themes, but this looks very tasteful. I'll give this a shot after flashing Eclipse .4 later!
triton, I never was either. In fact, I had never even used BNB. But, I came to feel that colorized themes just didnt work for me anymore. So I decided Id use BNB and edit up to the X2.
Although, I must admit, I am a sucker for those neon themes in Blue or Red.

I've got a list from peoples feedback of a few imperfections here and there. I'll be fixing those real soon as well.
I ran into an issue with the app shortcuts on my home screen not moving to delete. They were frozen. I could add them to the homepage but couldn't delete. I flashed eclipse.4 and everything is working correctly now. I did install that speedy zip yesterday. Not sure if that was the issue or not. Would that be launcher issue or something in the theme zip?

New S memo backgrounds

I want some mew backgrounds for the S memo app but have had no luck searching for any. A transparent background would be ideal. Any idea of how to implement this or a note app that supports transparent PNG files?
Over pulled the S memo app and will decompile it shortly to find the backgrounds. It doesn't seem to save them elsewhere on the SD card. However I'm unsure how to go about making a transparent image.
A white image with an opacity too it, then saved as a .png.. Give me some dimensions when you pull the backgrounds and I'll throw a few different variations your way.

Wow, that's personalization to the max. Are you compiling a truetype of 1-9 or what? However you do it, please share. That'd be an awesome guide.
I intend on just replacing the 0-9.png files in the skin I'm using. If it works out I'll post it here with some screenies. Can you go ahead and make one with 100% transparency?
It's not working. I'll try using the other one you made with Andy and see if I can see the difference then.
edit. Nothing. I'm thinking that the images are used in a different way to make the backgrounds. I'll look into it more and see if I can come up with the answer.
The android one won't work. I believe uploading a png as an attachment on XDA will automatically render it as a jpg. If you figure out which files to revise let me know.
S Memo Background
Regarding color schemes, i believe dark colored notes like the one used in S Planner in handwriting mode will be energy efficient for amoled screen devices and will also look great and elegant on any screen (like when you put it as a widget in the homescreen). I think the handwriting screen in s memo uses a dark gray background with light gray gridlines and an aqua blue font/handwriting lines. This makes it look great and unobstrusive.
Just a suggestion.
Not sure if you guys are already doing this, but you have edit the .9.png files in the drawable landscape and portrait xhdpi folders You cannot just overwrite a .9 png with a standard png or it will not work. I suggest googling how to edit .9 png files as I'm sure someone out there can explain it better than I can.
