Clockwordmod won't do anything - HTC Rezound

I now have clockwordmod installed and for the first time when i boot into recovery not matter what selection I try it when you hit power to select it just shows the clockworkmod logo. it doesnt go anyway. so i can't wipe data and i can't install from zip.
I tried to uninstall app and went into sdcard and removed the clockwordmod folder so i could just use the rezound's original recovery but still only the clockworkmod recovery shows up and the same issue remains.
so now im stuck not being able to change roms.

Every developer in the Rezound forums says to use Amon Ra and stay away from clockworkmod. You will not be lost using it. Look for it in a sticky in development section. Next time do your homework first.

I uninstalled clockworkmod and removed the folder on the sd card and flashed amonra in fastboot. but when you go to recovery in hboot it still comes up clockwordmod.
what else do i have to do to get clockwork off and amonra to work?

It should overwrite clockwork. You are unlocked right? Try the cleanflash tool from scrosler. Has worked for me everytime. Make sure you do not have any ph.img on you external sd then boot to hboot and use the tool. The Amon Ra link is in the second post. Directions are simple, and make sure the recovery .img is in the same folder as the tool. At least you posted in the right section.

If you have s-off then you should either use rom manager or use fastboot
Most people on this thread use rom manager because its just so much easyer

He's not talking about just the CWR .img file I don't believe. It sounds like he wants a zip of CWR that he can flash via hboot like a radio which would install recovery. I'm not even completely sure that's possible.

It's not. Have to use fastboot. However, if you go to the link site, it has rom manager there as well, which will flash recovery for you...
If that's not good enough, then he's just being overly difficult.
Actually the recovery image was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks everyone

Hmm, actually it is possible (with engr hboot anyway). I just made one in about 2 minutes and tested and it seems to work fine. Flashed CWR from bootloader like a champ.
I'll put it up (if anyone happens to need it for whatever reason) when I get home.
Edit:
Eh, went ahead and uploaded it. Just put on sd, change name, and reboot to hboot like flashing a radio. You should then have ClockworkMod Recovery installed. If anyone feels like trying it, let me know how it goes.
This means one should be able to edit the custom upgrade firmware used in the original tutorial to include this and cut out a few post-rooting steps. It *should* give you CWR immediately after going through the tutorial without requiring RM. I haven't tested that part yet but the reasoning seems sound.
Edit2:
This is ClockworkMod Recovery 3.1.0.2 (latest for mecha at time of posting) btw.

bootloop from hell

i started i started running mik runny yesterday. I dont know if it was somethign with the rom but. I just updated my prl on dfs and once i went to reboot it wont go past the white htc screen and just keeps bootlooping. I cannot figure it out. Ive wiped everything muiltiple times. my nanadroids do the same thing. New roms too. I even did a factory reset. i dont get it My recovery and fastboot still work though. any other suggestions?
Flashed a new recovery img. i was using twrp2.0 i flashed twrp 1.3 to see if i had any luck with that but no dice. Im downloading the latest RUU now and hopefully that will fix it. Im guessing if it doesnt then something happened to my phone. If im not mistaken flashing the PG86IMG will flash allthe partitions so there would be no reason for it to not work unless of course something happened to the hardware?
Btw Hboot 1.4 and running mikrunny when the bootloop started. Im super confused since it booted fine for me numerous times. The only thing i changed before this reboot was prl and i turned fastboot off earlier. one other thing im downloading RUU_Shooter_S_Sprint_WWE_2.17.651.5 radio 1.00.1216 this isnt going to affect my hboot once flashing right? even if i have to re root thats fine i just dont wanna get stuck in 1.5 prison

well im kinda stuck now. I tried to run the ruu for my hboot version and on step 11 system it failed to unzip. so now i have s off still but no recovery. Im gonna try to put cwm back on my sd and hope that it flashes and see if i can get some rom to flash. I cant figure this out i feel like a newb again. fml. Does it matter that it wasnt the first time i booted into the rom for it to be a bad flash like that?
well i think im officially bricked. I ran an older ruu and it failed to unzip system so after much searching i decided to run one of the latest pg86imgs it fully updated succesfully but still bootloops at the htc screen. So now i have a locked hboot 1.5 with s-off. I gotta get some sleep and see what i can do tommorow. from evreything i have read they say im not bricked if im able to do what i have. but i dont understand why nothing will work.

Sup man your not bricked don't worry or even soft bricked lol.
You should of waited on that updated zip reason it's boot loopin or lockin up is due to the phone never got wiped before the update....
Here is the CWM that will work for you. You need to put the img in your platform tools for ADB. Rename the img file to cwm then plug your phone in while in hboot. Type fastboot flash recovery cwm.img this will put the recovery back on your phone man.
In CWM you can mount your phone and copy a rom you downloaded off xda. Take the rom you downloaded open it up on your computer make a copy of the boot.img place that in your platform tools folder. Now mount your phone using CWM copy the romwhich will put it on your sd card. Now wipe everything. Then while in ADB type : adb reboot bootloader this will take you to hboot again now type fastboot flash boot boot.img this will flash the kernel for you. Now go back into recovery and flash your rom.
You should be good to go man. Let me know if you have any questions.
This should get your phone working...
The good thing about the 3vo is dat its unbrickable just always keep a Rom u ones work an always erase scrub thing / factory reset cutting shortcuts don't work in rooting/dev world

Ok so now that i ran that ruu that changed my hboot to 1.5 is that gonna affect how the cwm installs?even though it says s-off. Also for some reason im having trouble running any commands for fastboot. Ive followed a bunch of guides made sure the envinronemtal variables were correct ect, ect but none of the adb commands will work. Maybe its my pc idk.
Since i cant get fastboot to work on my pc do you think i would just be able to reinstall clockworkmod by renaming it on my sd like you do to root in the first place. Then use it to wipe and then try reflashing?
U might have to re unlock it if ur 3vo says locked at the top if not u should have no problem

I was able to re run the pg86img with the 1.4 hboot now im back on hboot 1.4 still with soff and doesnt say locked anymore. I also was able to install recovery again but i used twrp 1.3 since none of the download links i could find were good and the ones that were good were disk img. I tried running virus superwipe tool and reflashing a rom again to see if anyhtign changed but it didnt. i really just wish i could get the commands to work to use fastboot and adb.
One thing i just noticed in recovery i went into mounts and system and data were unmounted and cache and sdcard were mounted. Do i need to mount everything and try again or was that the way it should of been?

I read about the 1.5 with s-off issue a while back when hboot 1.5 first was released. As long as you have s-off, it doesn't really matter what hboot you have. You'll be able to flash entire ROMs (kernel included) in one step just like you could before your issue arose, because you have s-off. I sadly don't have enough experience with fastboot to be able to give you an easy guide to flashing cwm onto your phone though, but I hope this helps you at least somewhat.
EDIT: I just realized everything I said now doesn't matter since you're not on hboot 1.5 anymore...sorry about that. reaper24 gave you a link to cwm 4.0.1.4 in post #8 in this thread. Stop using TWRP 1.3, there's already a TWRP 2 specifically for EVO 3D and even the latest TWRP has been having issues. CWM has been completely stable for me on every HTC phone I've ever used (Hero CDMA, EVO 4G and now currently the EVO 3D). CWM 4.0.1.4 is in post #8 of this thread as an attachment (it's a small link in between reaper's post and his signature)

i know right. I think what it might be is something i saw earlier about since i flashed the PG86IMG and it took revolutionary off my hboot that i no longer have fastboot. I tried to run some other commands and got the same thing. So for the hell of it i tried to run revolutionary from hbootand fastboot and it just waits for device. But then when i reboot the phone it will recognize it, but it doesnt stay long enough to run revolutionary. No i just have to remember which pg86img it was that made my phone just stay at the white screen so i can run revolutionary. lol

Amon Ra 3.15 issues

Hey everybody, so I installed Amon Ra 3.15 on my Rezound running ICS 4.0.3 and I'm having issues with superuser. Whenever I restart my phone, superuser gets deleted. I guess a bigger problem is that when superuser was installed and I tried to use WiFi tether, it never worked. I installed su and superuser through Amon Ra, but I guess it didn't take. So now I have no superuser app on my phone and I'm not even sure if I'm rooted. I'm running just stock ICS 4.0.3 with Amon Ra 3.15. Can anybody tell me how to fix this issue or get "real" root access so I can run a tethering app please? Thank you!

That was the very first thing I did when I installed Amon Ra and it's never worked properly. Superuser app would delete itself after every restart and apps like WiFi tether never worked even when superuser was installed. In WiFi tether the settings were: Galaxy Nexus LTE, Netd, and enable route fixing.
Should I just try reinstalling Amon Ra? Will that even work?

I had similar issues when I updated to ICS firmware.....not sure why. So I used Hasoon's All in One Tool Kit to install it. Worked! I later figured out that flashing the zip file wasn't working for me and that instead I should have updated using the PH98IMG file of amon ra......not sure if you tried them.

So how I installed AmonRa was through Terminal on my Mac. I ran "./fastboot flash recovery recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img" from the computer. I didn't drop any files onto the root of the SD card. Is this not the proper way to install the AmonRa?
The "recovery-ra-vigor-3.15-gnm.img" file is the only file I have related to AmonRa.
The All-In-One toolkit doesn't work for me b/c I use a Mac.
Can somebody please give me proper instructions on how to install AmonRa is the way I did it was incorrect? I'm brand new to Android, but I managed to get ICS on my Rezound and what I thought was the proper way to install AmonRa. ICS 4.0.3 is working fine, but I just want to get root access to use WiFi tether. That's the only thing I want to do. Any help would be so greatly appreciated. Step-by-step directions would be SO helpful. THANKS!!!!
Wait I'm realizing your problem is not amon RA but SU. Are you s on or s off? Did you just upgrade firmware? Because that would make a difference in your root permanently sticking.
Edit: You might be losing root....as I'm not sure exactly what the makeup of your phone is. Try the tool kit and install amon ra and flash su in recovery.
Unfortunately if your recovery is not permanent you have to this again after updating rom, ruu, etc. Someone correct me if I'm wrong ..I've been s off since we got it so I might be off a bit. Again s off and s on makes a difference. Nor sure what you have.
Edit to he edit: I see you are using a Mac.....again are you s off or a s on? That amon ra file is not going to work for you.
Try the ph98img file here..

Using a Mac makes no difference in flashing recoveries or anything. I have a Mac and I use the same exact recovery.img as everyone else

THANKS!!!!

That should have worked. You can always flash the new file in the earlier post. After, do like you did with SU...then flash this file here (in recovery):
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B28uLCcMCyfRazVzMDRmWUxQcVU
Ctrl-S to download the thing as a zip file.
I believe it updates the binaries. It worked for me several times. You can download Su from the market, too.

I'm S-On. Does that make a difference? I'm running 3.14.605.11 ICS. I know Amon Ra is installed b/c I can boot into it, but I just can't get the su/superuser to recognize things like WiFi tether or Titanium backup.

Yeah sounds like you lost root.....since your s-on and you ruu, you have to regain root again. Have you tried flashing in recovery the file from Topgun's above link and post?
You just might have to just redo the root instructions (installing SU), NOT bootloader, through your MAC.....assuming that's how you initially unlocked and rooted. Again I had similar issues so I used the All in one tool kit, which you can't use on a MAC.
Sorry if I can't be of any other help.....but try using the MAC, if you haven't done so already. And then S-Off!

How do I flash in recovery? I know that sounds stupid but I'm still confused about terminology. Does flashing in recovery mean dropping the file on the root of the card and then going into hboot? OR is it putting the phone into hboot and then flashing the file from Terminal? If I do it through terminal what is the coding language? "Fastboot flash recovery"? I'm so confused. Thanks for all the help thus far. I think just a little more help and I can get it. Thanks for being patient everybody.

I would just flash a custom rom like conrom v6. It will fix your super user issues. Flash in recovery means you boot into your recovery(amon ra) and flash the zip(it can be on external or phone)

Flashing in recovery....your file is on the SD Card...not a ph98img.zip file...you flash roms in recovery, for example. But how? Get into recovery (amon ra) select navigate through the flash zip options..(can't remember exact verbiage) select file and you're on!
Flashing in hboot/bootloader...your file is on the SD Card and is name ph98img.zip. The bootloader scans for any files named, thus, and if so, asks if you want to run it or boot (that's why you delete or rename ph98img files when done with them).
Using Fastboot...boot into the bootloader and select fastboot..then you can enter commands from your computer. Fastboot flash [partition] [filename] . A quick google search turns up the commands you might need. At least, that what I do. Hopefully this helps some!
Did you ever flash that file I mentioned up above...flash 'in recovery'
http://download.chainfire.eu/204/SuperSU/CWM-SuperSU-v0.94.zip
Download the above zip file for SuperSU.
Put it on your sd. card.
Boot into Ramon recovery.
Flash the zip file using Ramon ra recovery
then you will be rooted
SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!
TopGun, I flashed the zip file you provided and it worked!!! Thanks to everybody for chiming in!!!! Wifi Tether works and everything is great. Now I can finally take a nap. Thanks everybody, truly awesome to have great community support.

Last question, but do I have to flash this zip every time I restart my phone? I'm trying to figure out why the root didn't stick in the first place and what I need to do to prevent losing root. I don't use any custom ROM's, just use the stock ICS that was in 3.14.605.11. Not upgrading to .12 until I know it can be rooted.
Also, I am trying to find a ROM that gets rid of the VZW bloatware, but leaves as much stock ICS as possible. Looking through the Developer section at the list of ROM's there, they don't have many pictures of what the ROM looks like on the phone. So I'm hesitant to go through them all to see which is closest to stock ICS. If you guys know of any I'd appreciate those recommendations also. Sorry for being such a noob about all this stuff, but a man has to start somewhere.

[Q] AmonRa parsing issue?

Hey all, just received a replacement rezound under warranty due to the charge port being all muffed up, and of coarse the first thing was unlock via htcdev which worked fine.
Here is the issue.. when trying to flash amonra via fastboot or PH98IMG.zip in bootloader it won't flash. For fastboot it says "unknown error" and as a PH file in bootloader it says "parsing..." for a few seconds then disappears without flashing anything. I've re-downloaded and checked md5's and still get the same errors.
My last rezound was s-off and that whole process was quick and painless and I don't understand why the same procedure I used on my last rezound isn't working now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you flash in fastboot usb? (And, to be perfectly clear to avoid a dumb question, does hboot reflect that you are unlocked?)

indeed *** unlocked *** is displayed at the top on hboot. and ive tried "fastboot flash recovery (nameofrecovery.img) with nameofrecovery changed to what i have it saved as and no luck. even tried relocking and ruuing too just to make sure it wasnt the software messing everything up.
Can't remember but can you try to S-OFF first? (It's been so long, but I can't remember whether you have a custom recovery already on).
Ah, one other stupid thing.... have you tried a different sdcard?

I was thinking about the sd card being the issue but it installed an ruu via ph98img.zip perfectly fine bit its worth a shot. And on unlimited.io's site they say you need to be completely stock with root and as far as I know amonra is the only way to root on a stock ruu. I managed to s-off tho after using hasoon's tool to flash amonra. I'm now completely stock again after ruuing back to gb then accepting ota
so I'll try flashing amonra again and report back. Thank you for your help!

You can install any custom recovery and use it to flash SuperUser. The root option in Amon Ra doesn't usually work by itself anyway.

Oh ok thats good to know actually. just cant seem to install any custom recoveries lol. i chose to install amon ra 3.15 with hasoons tool and for some reason i have 3.06 installed.. dont know how or why but i do. tried to install 3.15 with his toolkit again and got the stupid error again. i dont know what to do at this point lol. never had this problem with the last rezound. i am s-off now but do not have the recovery i want installed.
should i try ruu'ing again and start fresh?
and for what its worth i do have the jb hboot installed just to see if that was the issue. had to use fastboot commands to install it so i dont think thats the issue. i think its the download for amonra 3.15 i have. if anyone has a personal copy of 3.15 that is confirmed working and is willing to share it itd be greatly appreciated.
To use the fastboot commands you must be unlocked. With the parsing error. That will sometimes happen if you have a file called "update.zip" on your sdcard. Try seeing if you have one of those files. If your HBOOT does say s-off. Flash the GB RUU. Just so you can verify everything has changed. and then restart with the ICS RUU then flash a recovery. This time not with that tool.

Thank you for the response. i tested to see if i really did have s-off by doing just that. ruu'd back to gb without a hitch. then accepted the ota. so im thinking ill just ruu the ota (3.14.605.12) and see what happens. and im with you on not using the tool again. ive heard really good things about it but never used it personally until today. my old method worked well i just didn't know what else to do at that point lol

To s-off you got to do the wire trick. But RUU then don't use the tool. lol Lets us now if it works out.

Yupp s-off'd with no issues. Just want amonra lol. Ruu'd to OTA and am waiting for my battery to charge up enough to flash via hboot. The amonra thread has a PH98IMG.zip but I think that one was the 3.06 version. Dunno. Will report back.

I'm not trying to be a jerk or whatever but have you read the bottom of the AmonRA OP? It has a link to 3.15 I am pretty sure.
Curious. Why you want AR so bad? We have 2 other fully functional recoveries. lol

Since you're on the OTA ICS firmware, you should definitely NOT be running Amon Ra 3.06. You need to be on 3.15. If the md5's match what's on your sdcard and what's on the OP at that thread, it shouldn't be a bad download, but just in case, I loaded it up on my Dropbox and you can try the one here.
As far as alternate recoveries, while I was very impressed with TWRP, it is incapable of wiping boot, so that's a nonstarter. Admittedly, if Flyhalf solved that issue, I'd switch to it. As far as CWM Touch, that has issues with reading sdcard2, as of the last time I checked, or at least with respect to its interaction with various ROMs and their features. For me at least, having tried all of the Rezound recoveries, Amon Ra is my preferred choice.
just push AR manually instead of using the tool:
Unzip the file from the link listed below onto the root of the C drive on your PC, and it should create a folder called Android on the root of C.
1) open a cmd prompt and type " cd c:\Android " without quotes
2) boot to fastboot and make sure your USB is plugged into the pc and phone
3) type " fastboot flash recovery recovery.img " without the quotes
This should push the AR 3.15 to your device. I included AR 3.15 in the Android folder below.
the folder contains a txt file of a few other handy commands that i use. that txt file is for reference only
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aycfqc37tvkhbdl/Android12-14-2012_22+21+19.rar
I ended up flashing twrp and it worked great. Like a previous poster said if it could wipe boot it would be perfect. But it got the job done and am up and running again. Thank you all for your help!

Glad everything worked out for ya. Wiping boot can cause a lot of problems just sayin. So I debating on putting it back into TWRP. Just ask snuzzo in his kernel thread

How to load nandroid backup from HBOOT

Hi folks..... it's been a while for me and I've had a brain drain. My rezound won't boot, nor go into recovery, but I can get to HBOOT. Isn't there some way I can reload my nandroid as a ph98img.zip? It doesn't seem to be working for me.
I'm Locked S-OFF HBOOT2.11.2005

I tried that ..... it looks like it flashes the recovery, but when I try to go to recovery from fastboot, the white HTC screen is up for a few seconds, then the screen goes dark and unresponsive when I would normally expect it to go to (AmonRa) recovery.
Have you tried to use adb and instead of flashing just booting the recovery from there. I'm not sure about s-off butI know there is a difference with s-on

Tried flashing via fastboot ..... no good. So I did an RUU by putting a PH98IMG.zip on the external flash. This worked, gave me a stock phone.
Now, when I go into HBOOT to try to load AmonRa3.15, I'm LOCKED, but S-OFF (this should be sufficient, correct?). I flash AmonRa3.15 via flashboot, but when I try to go into recovery, I see the symbol indicating I'm in stock recovery. So my AmonRa flash never "took".
Any suggestions?

Solved ..... flashing didn't work, but putting the AmonRa Recovery as a PH98IMG.ZIP file on the external card did... go figure
Well, not solved. I try to restore my nandroid backup from AR3.15 and I get, ""Oops something went wrong. See log" Where's the log? There is no log.
I'm having a fine conversation with myself. Hopefully someone else can learn from my mistakes. I tried to restore a nandroid backup from the wrong folder name... that's what caused the "Oops" error. My backup is restoring fine now.

Well everything is alright .... almost. My external SD card is not being recognized in android ICE Sense 3.6 Nils ..... Root Explorer shows sdcard as a folder, but sdcard2 (sdcard ext, or whatever it is) as a file that it doesn't know how to open.
I don't think it's a hardware problem because AmonRa can read the directory structure on the card just fine (and it looks ok from a card reader on the 'puter).
Help?
I put this new problem in a new thread ....... This one's getting old
