Google Play - What do you think? - Goodbye "Android Market" - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Google Play really seems to be a relaunch of the market, books and music. They've basically just changed the names. Still, it sounds cool
What do you think?

it looks exactly the same no change lol.

Reply I posted on similar thread in the Wildfire section.
I kind of get the idea, but Google Play? Seriously...? That's the best name they could come up with? ಠ_ಠ
A: Dude, I found an epic app!
B: Really? What's it called?
A: Search for [app name here] on Google Play
Just doesn't sound right

Also, there's one good part about it. A couple of apps are 50 cents

No difference, although Amazon really need to open up the appstore to other nations now.
Is there a new APK now it's known as Google Play?

Aw, market.android.com redirects to play.google.com

Anyone have the new Play Store apk?

i also want an apk of the new play apps >_<
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533862 will probably end up being posted there

Think its a bit childish, the new icon is the only good thing.

I was just playing music in Google Music, it paused, crashed, and then Google Play took over exactly where I left off in the song.
Damn, that was seamless.

though Google Play isn't available in Italy yet, where can i get google play APKs?

try here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533862

Its basically just a name change, and I saw on droidlife all froyo and newer devices will get the new "play" market update pushed.
Sent from my DROID3 using Tapatalk

As most features like music and movie rent arent available in my country the change is mostly a non issue for me - but the thing about how newer apps will be on their cloud and not our phone looks a bit worrying, what about people without an unlimited data plan?

It's insulting! We love Android, stop calling it Google thiss or that.
Where the droid on the MARKET?
FU Google

I love the new design.
The name may not be awesome but it's still a name, it's better than the generic "Market" that leaves no impression after hearing it.

You've misunderstood what they said, check out howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-57391700-285/five-things-you-may-not-know-about-google-play/ the apps are on your phone still.

Google Play is just a Rebranding of Android Market
Check out this page that talks about how "Google Play" is just a rebranding of the Android Market, yet has so many possibilities for what will come next...
http://www.orangeandjuicy.com/google...ndroid-market/
I'm not sure what I think about the name "Play" yet. Not sure if that is very descriptive of reading a book.
But the roll-out was quite seamless and well done.

Hate it. the PLAY is really unprofessional, didn't Google lean ANYTHING from the failure of the PLAYBook by RIM.
It failed because of it's name.
(and it's OS had **** apps)

No, its not that. Large programs usually games, will have a small apk that installs and then once it launches it downloads additional data on the device using the developer's server usually. You don't know how large the additional content will be until you install the app. Now the additional content can be hosted on Google's servers so you will know just how big a game, etc really is before you download it and updates to games will also be easier to push.

Apk Request - NBA Game Time v2.4

So I paid for the League Pass bc it finally let me pay for it but I still get the black screen but w/ audio.
Emailed the developers and they said the issue has been resolved with the newest update.
Can someone provide a download link to their NBA Game Time v2.4 (or whatever is newest) for us who really just want watch lin-sanity? =)
Much appreciated!
it would be against the rules to post any APK here
instead of asking xda to give you the apk, if you said was true you did pay for it (not saying you didn't) why not email the dev and ask them to send it to you?
its a free app and you have to sign in for it to work, I doubt hes trying to get over

its a free apk/app
you have to buy the league pass to access the videos, etc...
since nba game time isn't compatible w/ transformer prime, I installed an apk from a previous version. developer said to install the most updated version as the issues are resolved.
I was able to get 2.4 onto my Xoom using a desktop Chrome extension called APK Downloader. The free trial works great, and I will be upgrading to the paid app when it's over.
why wouldnt you just get it from the store?

I've wondered the same thing myself. They seem to have resolved the compatibility issues I experienced during the previous trial period. Do they not want my money?

again, as I've said previously, it's not compatible with the Asus Transformer Prime. I downloaded the apk for a different compatible android device and installed it and it works fine. the only problem is the viewing.

there was an app that kill wifi for all other devices on the network, and it was abandon from the market ..
There are loads of apps outside of the google store, and well the XS has a few stores of its own built in from sony.
But as for good apps, swype from http://www.swype.com/
Its the keyboard from the Samsung galaxy S series and once you swype you never go back. It takes a little getting used to but it is so much easier / faster / accurate to use!
It was one of the first things I tried on my XS and was so glad that it worked straight off.

Your S has Swype built into the default keyboard.
I didn't notice the default keyboard had support for 'gesture inputs' as they put it as the phone didn't mention it and I don't think I read it in any review either.
I shall give the default keyboard another whirl then and see which one I prefer
This is freaking awesome. I didn't know it was built in by default. I was using the Chinese keyboard and switching it to English.
Thank you guys!

I get your drift, and I can see how something like that could be really popular. I know some folks are really addicted to these social games where they take turns and play with someone. Taking that idea into a romantic direction would work, I'd think. Something on the order of "Draw Something" or "Words With Friends" that was password protected and was on the order of "Truth or Dare" or something like that might find a huge market...particularly if you could attach audio or pictures. SMS just isn't a perfect substitute because it doesn't bring in the "game" aspect or provide the same kind of "rules" or "choices".

thank you for thinking outside the box to see the kind of app i'm looking for. we do the "texting" thing. i'm looking for something different. something that could promote new ideas and things to do. something that takes some of the control away.
App for Couples
There is a new app for couples out that could provide you with something of what you are looking for.
Search iLoveNote on Google Play for Android Devices. The App is awaiting release in the App store for IOS devices.
I was also looking for a similar app. I found an app so I want to make happy to my girlfriend with my performance.:

Sort results in market/play store?

Hi! Is there any way to sort search results on the Google market e.g. after downloads or views or rating? Thanks.

Not currently possible in the app, but it should be possible on the website.
Yeah on the website it works but whyyyy is Google not integrating it in the app.
Isn't there the possibility to integrate this function in a mod somehow?
Thx
Sent from my NexusHD2 using xda app-developers app
Even on the website, the only options are by Popularity and by Relevance.
I wish i could sort by Rating, by Developer, alphabetically...
google seems to make it on purpose not to let you sort the results... MADAFAKAZ!! :x

It can barely find information about anyone asking about sorting results from play store. xda developers must be only ones who think outside the box.
How we can make it sort every search results as i want.
Like downloads, stars e.t.c.?
Sorting seems to have been removed from the website as well. Damn it Google, why must you turn everything to ****.
I've just had to reinstall after a full reset, and this has to be one of the worst aspects of the play store. I wish I understood programming, but is there anyone can make an app to fix this lack of sortability and lack of filtering?
I'm with @Newtoys, why does google always go one step to far and mess up perfectly good things?
Agreed: Google makes it Harder, not Easier!
Searching for a small business collaboration app
Only returns results with app that have the word "collaboration" in the title?
If I was a developer, I would be reluctant to ever get involved,
how are potential customers supposed to find your App if you don't give it a name that sound too much alike all the other apps in the same category.
And Furthermore: I don't care about the icon, I want to be able to scan an encapsulation of the capacity of the app... Who cares what color the button is going to be on my screen !!!
If Google is the "Ultimate Search Engine" why then can't I use a Google search to go through the Play Store Apps..?
NO !!! Instead it returns a listing of Other Web Sites and the Apps that they recommend ?
I am with you guys on this. Been wondering this for years now. I also found it weird that when I try and Google search this issue, this thread is the only one relevant to our problem. I'd be willing DL a modified play store app even. The worst is when I want to see about any new/updated apex themes and I have to browse a library of themes I've seen before.

lol, exact same f##@ up when im going thru Layers themes !! Usually we need the latest updated themes since they work as expected with updated AOSP Roms...but stupid google wont let me sort a list of apps by the 'last updated' date !!
Any 3rd party apps that browse the entire play store app catalogue and have the ability to sort them by their last updated date ?
same here... i want to sort apps by it size since the day start using play store but never see such feature or any proper useful sorting method in play store.. and when google for sprting apps, i end up right here... hope some1 has the solution for this... seriously...

[SHARE][BOOK] Free "Android Photography" by Colby Brown

so there's a free book on Play Store about making photos with Android smartphones:
The basics, and I do mean basics, are covered here. The book opens with a description of the best way to hold a phone for both horizontal and vertical pictures, and while this may seem obvious to some users, there's no shame in admitting if your picture-taking form could use some work.
This book is written with the Nexus line of products in mind, and it's geared towards users running Android 4.2.2 or higher. If you have a Nexus 4 and are moving over from an HTC or Samsung product, this is a good way to get familiar with the latest version of the stock Android app. Brown provides pictures and goes through all of the app's options. Once you've taken your photo, there are sections dedicated to both sharing it and editing it using third-party applications such as Snapseed.
