[Q] Play . google instead of market - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone know if the Devs are working to get the new play.google app to our phones with or without custom roms?
Out phones are listed are supported however no update to my market app yet.
**Grip**
WTH would google switch to play.google.com and not stick with something a little less childish for those that are actually trying to get android in to the mainstream business enviroment. Basically i have to tell people to allow play.google.com through firewalls now instead of market.android.com sounds funny to me.

Mine just updated. Had to re-accept the EULA and went on my merry way like normal market. Not that big of a deal really.

Unlocking the market

Hello everybody, I'm new to the SII scene, coming from an Acer Liquid background.
I'm having a little problem : i can't access «protected» apps on the market, like Riptide, Livelocker, ...
I don't really now how I'm supposed to unlock this without doing anything dirty.
I think it's not something that could be solved through market enabler, as friends with the same carrier as I don't face this problem.
Thank you for your help !!!
Tolki/Gary
So, I tried a few things, but can't manage to find a clean solution :/
Does anybody have any clue on the precise origine of this ?
go to market. settings. content filtering.show all apps. thats the only thing i can think of.

Apps will be filtered depending on your handset. Certain apps are for certain handsets only (E.g. Trackball alert for the Nexus one). You can't see games like Riptide as they're meant for tegra2 devices. The easiest way to view them is to download chainfire 3d and choose the 'Fix market' option, it'll then let you view all tegra2 based apps on the market.
Thank you for your help, but I still can't see LiveLocker... And I fail to understand why :/

Humble Indie Bundle for Android

Just a heads up. Edge is absolutely phenomenal on the Touchpad.
Hi, how did you manage to get Edge (EX?) running properly?

No, I was just wondering since it can cause issues. But for me Edge works with and without it.
Edge EX is also working fine for me on CM9 Alpha 0.6. I didn't do anything special, it just worked.
*ETA: Which version of CM9 are you running? Version 0 and 0.5 had an issue with some games that has been fixed in 0.6
Whole pack is amazing so far. Goo is just amazing and fun same for osmosis and edge is a nail biter. Haven't tried the last on but assuming its half as good as the other three your in for a treat its also the biggest at 150 megs. They all load and play fine on cm9 6

my only issue is that i noticed it doesn't show up in the android market as being installed. however i was able to get to an 'update' option which then said 'you cannot update this app because you did not purchase it'. is there a way to install apps thru the marketplace when you've purchase them elsewhere (sounds ridiculous to me).
i had this happen when i wanted to update an app that i had paid for thru the market quite a long time ago and i ended up clearing the market cache and reinstalling the app with no problems. however, this doesn't fix the issue with these games.

You won't be able to update through the market right now. Osmos and Edge have in app prompts built in to check for updates and allow you to download them. Updates for the other two will be posted to your humble bundle download url and they are working on making a Humble app that does install through the market and checks for updates
http://humble.assistly.com/customer/portal/articles/332858-humble-bundle-for-android-faq
Q: How will my Humble Bundle for Android games be updated? A: If there are any updates to the games, we will post them to your download page. There will be a timestamp, letting you know when the newest version was posted.
Also, the latest builds of EDGE and Osmos will have an in-app update feature -- if they notice that Humble Bundle has a new build, it will show a dialog box asking if you'd like to update. We're hoping to work with the developers to have this feature added to the other games.
Finally, we're beta testing a Humble Bundle Android app that will organize your Humble Bundle for Android games, and alert you when a new version is available. We'll be sure to let you know when the app goes live!

Short answer is go back to the same page you downloaded from and updates will be posted there.
If you want to check if there is and update you can check the game's Google market page. If an update is available, the update button will appear, but you won't be able to use it.
You can also check the Humble Bundle's Twitter feed as they have been posting there when updates are made available:
http://twitter.com/humble
Eventually, there will be a separate Humble Bundle app that checks all your Humble games for updates and downloads them if there are any, but that app is not out yet.

[Q] Strange popup ad

I have been using a clock program called wf & clock widget for a few months on my p500h and it has been running fine, no popups. Recently I decided to install tape a talk and I have been getting a lot of full screen popup ads. I uninstalled tape a talk but the popup ads persist when I check the weather with wf & clock widget. I have used some antiviral antimalware programs but it is unable to find anything.
I have a rooted phone with permissions programs and the sort. I just want to know how this weather program may have gotten infected from a dev point of view . As of this moment, I am unable to get rid of the problem.
Download from the market - airpush detector
MoPhoACTV Initiative
I ran airpush detector and it did not find anything. Is it possible that tape a talk installed something into another application? I didn't think android apps could do that.
As long as you got the app from the android market then no. If you got it from a non sucure site then it is possible
Interesting, although I cannot believe it. Many people who have downloaded the tape a talk free version have had the same problem. I hope I do not need to reset my phone in order to change things back to normal.

Believe it. Android apps can be used to install apps that you know nothing about. Mai ly if your rooted or got the app from non approved sites. You should never install apps that you are not sure are clean like the ones from trusted markets or here.
And I just checked as u didn't think tapatalk offered a free version. And I couldn't find one. Where did you get it?

You could try an alternative like virtual recorder. It has in app ads only and quality is very good. You can get it on market.
If it does what you want you can delete tape a talk then.
Alternatively if your android is rooted you can use lbe privacy guard to deny it permissions such as net access so it might not get ads pushed to it then.

Not tapatalk, but 'tape a talk'. I only get apps from the official android market. Take a look at the feedback regarding the ad problem.
Normally I would not be asking about this kind of problem on this forum, and I thank everybody for the replies. I am mostly just curious about how this sort of problem can occur and how these apps can affect other apps, even ones that are apparently trusted and from trusted sources. You can never really trust a developer fully - I purchased the first Android phone available and have seen countless developers screw over their app users. It's really too bad since there are so many good developers out there too and it's hard to tell the difference.

How to you prevent google play upgrade?

I have the apk for the 3.4.4 market. I froze the market updater but when I install the Market apk within 5 minutes it updates to play. Is there a way to prevent the upgrade?
What's the big deal with preventing the update? Looks like exactly the same market with a name change to me. Just wondering what I'm missing and in no way trying to be a jerk.
Sent from my ADR6400L using xda premium
You dont want to stop the update because if you do, you will not be able to get apps or update current apps with the old market.
Anything else that relies on the newer market will fail as well. I doubt you could stop it anyway..
Install an older version of the Market and use Titanium Backup to freeze the Market Updater...but there's no good reason to not update.
The new market is great! LOL, it is pretty much the same. The only difference if you have a tablet and that allowed you to purches music through the app. Again looks pretty much the same. New name

personally the name change is annoying as all hell, google quit trying to program your brand name in my brain, when i want to buy and app or something i want to go to the market or to the store, not go to the google and pick up a new app.
every-time i'm in a rush trying to pull something from the app market i can't find the bloody icon because i'm looking for the market or in the old location on my app drawer, minor change i know but i have caught myself cussing at google when i needed to re-d/l my gps app after it crashed during a trip i as on a few days ago.
any chance of renaming the new app back to market without root?
Just use a launcher and if already do, just change the name duh..lol that's what I did ....

I also would like to learn how to get around using Play. The new terms seem to allow Google to read my sms messages and record the message routing. I don't think my correspondents would appreciate having their thoughts being part of Google's repertoire.

What conspiracy theorist cooked that up?
The only way to get around using Google Play is to not use android. What you're asking is the equivalent of saying you want to use an iDevice without the app store.

Memory needs > any update
I have a very good reason for not wanting auto-upgrades. Radio Shack misled me about the HTC Wildfire S and now I've got jack for memory. I have four apps installed, use only the native message app, and I'm lucky to have 25mb free. Anything less than that and the phone works as well as the Pony Express does today.
FWIW, Tandybot told me I could always install apps on the SD card. In theory, yes, but so few app devs code apps to work in that manner. Lesson learned.
kite edit: SNIP! No need for that kind of attitude around here, I'm afraid.

Rooted, any suggestions?

It's been 2 years since I've rooted my last device. I'm a bit out of the loop with rooting. So what's your guys opinions on some good rooted apps?
Maybe there's some good apps for cosmetic changes? I've tried a few launchers, but they all feel very fake and tacky.
Of course I should learn how to use Titanium backup, I'd say that is a pretty common apps that rooted users use, eh?
Thanks ahead of time!

My favorite is blackmart. Tons of paid apps for free. Just google it and you can find their homepage to download it from. Other than that I usually only root to get free tethering but I found a way to get that without rooting this time so looks like I'll be holding off until we have some stable ROM's.

Yup. Not sure about YouTube (I think you need Xposed for that) but definitely Ads that appear all around some apps. In certain apps, the Ads totally disappear cleanly but in others they leave a black bar behind. That's depending on how the apps are designed.

Last time I checked out Cydia, it was for downloading paid apps for free. Correct me if I'm wrong.
However, Xposed is not for that. It's for making specific customizations to your ROM, as if it were cooked right into it. You need Xposed framework and specific modules for it to work.
Also, you're right about Samsung devices not being supported yet (work in progress).

Aw man that sucks. I had to leave ATT because even though i was grandfathered into the unlimited data plan, they would start metering me after 3gbs and i just couldnt stand it.
Ya they are being sued by FCC, lets see what happens, they start throttling at 5gig these days, but would surprise me if they did it at 3gig, they are not transparent at all
