[off topic] Google Play: Worst name Ever! - Motorola Droid X2

Google is coming up with some meaningless product names. Google+ is ok, it is signifying the augmentation of the whole Google experience. But, Google Wave? What is so wavy? Google Play??
How is the market a play thing? How does Google Play Music , Google Play Books make sense? Well, Google Play Music sorta makes sense... But why Play? Aiming at Playstation-esque name or Apple's Gamecenter?

Agreed 100%
Play as in Playing a movie is a nice idea but because of the other definition... Wow. Please Google, correct this fast! Please some up with another word!

Edit: I believe it's a Google is everything idea...Google can Play all...maybe a haha to Apple
Sticks and stones will hurt my bones, BUT names will never hurt me...I dint look at names, just icons or widgets, do you?
This isn't my DX2

Wave was from Firefly, thee best sifi show ever made!
In the show, they used "waves" to communicate with people across the verse. If you look, you can find things like "not to fret, everything's shiny captain!" I guess one of the devs who worked on wave was a fan
But renaming the market and stuff is kind of bad. If Google wants to make fun of apple, they should just make a free game where you are an android and you have to eat apples and have links and pics to the game all over Google products

The new name is kind of odd but I do like the new market logo. I use a few of Google's apps regularly and everything has improved. Google Music ACTUALLY syncs the new music you add to iTunes the moment you add it. Earth used to do this weird thing to me where it would go to street view, then immediately zoom back out. My mom uses Books and she is saying good things about it. Im not really digging the Music logo but hey, its just a logo.

Anyone think Motorola will put out an update to fix the blur market icons that no longer work?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk

Theres a new market? What version is it? I have Build Version 3.4.4. Is that the current version?
I agree, the whole "play" thing is odd. Seeing "Play Music" in my apps is funny. It doesnt sound like an app name. More like its telling me what to do. lol

I don't think mine has been updated yet. I hear it will be updated over the next couple days though. I tried deleting the data in the application settings and restarting the app but my app still says "market". It had me accept the terms and all that when I started the app and it did say Google play though. Im running cm7 so I don't have to worry about the update messing up the blur launcher.
Sent from my MB870 using Tapatalk

Maybe it will be a good thing. I mean if Motorola has to do an OTA to fix their broken links in blur maybe they will take the time to fix.other bugs and give us an official 2.3.5 update? You never know!

3.4.7 is the build number.
Did everyone else's app icon get changed? Mine looks kind of like the old one.

The English teacher in me is coming out, so prepare for the dorkiness. I believe Google is using the term "play" in regards to its definition of "employ oneself in diversion, amusement, or recreation." In which case, Google Play makes absolute sense. I am going to employ in the amusement of apps, music, books, movies, etc. To me, it makes more sense than iTunes. Tunes refers to music. So by definition of name, it doesn't make sense for iTunes to have movies, books, or anything non-music related.

Google play music is pure crap! Do not buy music! You don't get to play your music which you paid for and downloaded on any other app and you don't get a downloaded music file to do with what you wish. It's all just stored cache. Apple giving them pointers or something? This is gay!

Pulse is okay, I hope flipboard comes to android.
It would be nice but I recently took a survey with News360 and they're currently working on Twitter/Facebook integration. It could possibly help me forget about Flipboard.
Man...if only I could code, I would have started working on an app just like Flipboard called Scrapbook. LoL. I wouldn't be surprised to see Flipboard appear on Android sometime after Christmas. I still wonder if Apple doesn't pay some of these developers not to work on both.
It seems silly as anybody who can program, can just take your idea, change it a bit and put in on another marketplace.
with that being said , flipboard to me ,also is far more better in providing iformation than any apps i tried on android os.
just by searching word 'cancer' , in these apps vs flipboard , one can clearly see the difference ....
hope flipboard coming to android soon ...

That is true.
Apart from the tremendous claim for their attractive layout, this is a real problem.
There is not enough personal customization of content, and most often, the status updates chronologically.
Ive never had the chance to play with it but having seen reviews, I would really like to use planetary on android.
I would pay 4.99 on the market for that
What do you mean there is no Flipboard-like app? Theres Google Currents which is superior
I was currently searching for planetary. Only thing i found , was this thread.
Can someone port it for android? Or am i asking something incredible?
I have flipboard installed on my tab. In the play store says isn't compatible but you can instal it if you download the apk from other source. Once installed the app says in the first time open that is not made for this screen size but works perfectly!

Hey guys I cant even get my library of music to show up. Mine is just blank. Any ideas?
I had this problem on the bionic and was able to fix it using the following steps. I deleted the pre loaded music app using root explorer, but I would try it first leaving the app alone, who knows it may still work.
1) Go to manage apps
2) select the downloaded Google music app
3) wipe the data
That's it! Load up the app and it should prompt you to allow the app to link with your Google account.

I don't have a Razr but I have run into this a couple times. On mine, I'd click the song and it would just say something like failed to play the stream, or some such thing. Anyway, you are limited to 7 devices on Google Music. If you do a lot of flashing roms, each time you flash a new one, it's counted as one device.
If this is the case, you have to go to Google Music using a web browser on a PC and delete some of the devices listed there. To do this, click the gear icon at the top right of the page, then music settings. You'll find them there.
You sir deserve a genius award

LOL, I don't know about that. Talk to my friends and family and find out about all the stupid things I've done in my life and you might have second thoughts about that one. Anyway, from the sound of it, it sounds like you got the problem fixed. Glad to hear it.
If you ask me, it's kind of stupid on Google's part. The error message I mean. Don't know if it comes from the Android OS or directly from Google Music but it seems to me they could program it to tell you that you have too many devices attached to the account. The way it is now, you are just left in limbo. Oh well, all's well that ends well I guess.

[Q] Hot to get Google+ videos to play in the Google+ app?

I just got my EVO LTE a few days ago, so I haven't gotten around to rooting it yet.
On my original EVO 4G, when I click on a video in the Google+ app, the video plays IN THE APP!
On this phone, it opens a web browser and takes me to the Google+ site where the video is located. And once I'm there, the video's wont play!!! Flash is installed and up to date.
I thought a file association dialogue was supposed to open and ask me which app I wanted to play the video? Is there any way short of rooting (which I don't want to do for at least several more days)??? I changed the association from the default browser to Chrome beta, but Chrome can't play the video's either.
In app associations, there is something called, "streaming link", but the only option to choose is "Streaming Media Player". That's apparently not playing them either.
Thanks.
The same thing happens to me when I click to play a youtube video.
Karate kicked from EVO 4G LTE using Tapatalk 2!

I will search the dev section in the hopes you understood that.

So why then do these videos not even play in a browser? It's bad enough they don't play directly in google+, but they don't even play in the browser that opens when you click on the video!
I don't think that is because of the Apple thing.
same thing happened to me. I downloaeded MX player from the market and instaaled it. Somehow the problem is gone. I restored back the Google Video play and ask me wich player I want to chose from. Both work perfect now.
Well, I broke down and rooted today. Couldn't take it anymore.
In other news, I see Apple decided to finally update their stuff to state of the art 2010. You go, Apple!
Oh, and don't forget to file a lawsuit against Google for stealing your map idea.

Use google for searching the APK, just search for "songza apk", the first one to appear is the apk4 .us site, donwload it and try to use it. If it says that you are outside the US, assuming you are rooted, just download Orbot, a Tor's Client. I live in Argentina and like many others, can't use Songza or Pandora, but this little app do the trick. Search it on the Play Store.
Once you launch it for the first time it ask you for rooted permissions, then it ask you for the apps that will go trhough Orbot, click the "Select Apps.." button, wait for the list of apps installed on your phone and then check Songza, go back and when it shows you the Large button press for 2 seconds, it begins to connect to the Tor network, once it goes Green.....ALELLUYA!!!!!
Luanch again Songza and there you go listening for your favorites tunes!!!!
Remember to go through the Options in Orbot for uncheck the "Start with the system" option.
By the way, with that little bastard of Orbot, you can make any app "shows" you on the US, like I said before, I live in Argentina, and besides Songza and Pandora, I use Last.fm, Hulu, Rdio, and so on...
Good luck!

[Q] Google play content

So I live in Lebanon, and have had to live with the dissapointment of not having any access to any books or music from google play. I thought that that is how everyone over here had things.. until I had to borrow my brother's nexus today and noticed that his playstore, despite having been registered under the same country as mine, had clearly all the content available from the us. His homepage in Play store had apps and as you would scroll down there were book suggestions, music suggestions, and even movie suggestion. He even said that he has bought books on it without any problems. Ive been using ebook reader to buy books so far but have noticed that many books arent there. Why is the content available on his device and not mine? We both use the nexus 7, though admittedly the only difference is that he hasn't rooted any of his devices whereas all of mine ( my phone and tablet) are rooted..... the content didnt come up on my device even after I added his account on my nexus. The versions for the playstore are the same as well. Anyone know why this may be and if there is any for me to get access to books and music on the playstore?

Nope. Its working perfectly fine for both of us. Im wondering now, If maybe he just happened to update his google play while he was in the US and whether that couldve been the reason? That he happened to update it when he was there as opposed to updating it when he is in Lebanon? But if that were the reason then it should be enough for someone to use a VPN or tunnel while updating the app and he should get the content he wants which Im pretty sure people would have figured out a long time ago and not now :S so im confused. Maybe he just has a lucky bug or something?

NO ... its working fine in that it lets me buy apps but it still doesnt show me any books or any of the US content. My brother can see the US content even though he lives in Lebanon. Thats the problem that I want to know if I can get the same content as him. When I said it works perfectly I meant that it would open I can browse through apps and buy them, but not that I managed to get the same content as my brother.
