[Q] Is EH03 2.3.5 still the best or is the latest update better? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recently got the RAZR MAXX (opinion still forming to rate the maxx) and am giving my son my old Fascinate so he can play games and listen to music. The Fascinate was rooted but going to just go back to stock to wipe it clean and let him start from scratch. My question is, earlier driodstyle recommended staying with eh03 because he felt it was the fastest at the time. But 4ish months ago verizon pushed another software update and was wondering if that was working better than eh03 or if I should just stick with eh03..... Any responses would be helpful... Thanks...

I'm rather new to the fascinate only had mine for about a month, however the first thing i did when i got it was allow it to ota to the newest release which was eh03. I haven't heard of anything newer than eh03.

That OTA was just the official OTA to EH03, rather than the leak that came out a few weeks prior. There was a leak for FA16, but nothing official ever came from it, and no one did anything with it as far as custom Roms or anything, so it must not have been worth it.

to the op, your thinking about ed05 froyo...eh03 is the latest ota update from verizon.

2.1 leak return

So i'm told that the 2.1 v3 leak is the same as the ota 2.1. same radio version and os version.
So since i'm on the 3rd leak and everythings the same can't i take it back and replace it without the verizon people knowing that it's the leak. This way i can get a new phone that still has 1.5 on it and root it?

good idea? bad idea? why?

I think it depends on where you live. Honestly, I don't think they'll care if you're on the leak either way. I went to my VZW store and told them I was having lots of problems with my phone because my friend updated me to 2.1 (partially true, i was having problems. ) And they wiped it for me, said if it was still giving me trouble then I could replace it. Which it was so I did. It can't hurt to try. It's not like its illegal to update to the leak. Not even sure if it voids your warranty. probably does but meh. Good luck

Flash back to 2.1

Can someone lead me to the files I need to flash my Fascinate back to 2.1 from the Froyo update. I'm not sure what files or Odin i need to do this. I'm having an issue with my 3G disappearing and dropping since going to the OTA froyo and never had problems with it on 2.1 so i'm trying to go back to stock 2.1, maybe even try to goto Froyo again [maybe something got corrupted or something]. Before i got about getting a new one, i'd like to see if I can flash back to 2.1 and get it working again.
There's a stock package that you can use to Odin back to DL09 (eclair) here. That same thread gives an easy way to get back to froyo if you want to try again.
Alternatively, if you're just having connectivity issues, you could simply try another radio. Some people have a better time with DL09 modem, at least compared to EB01 and EC01 (not sure whether anyone finds it better than the current one), and you can Odin just the modem here. You might want to try this first and see if it does the trick. DL09 modem works fine with leaked froyo releases, so it should be okay with the official one.

Here is an all together Rom, Theme, Radio, one stop shopping for you courtest of nitsuj17, cause he is that nice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1013312
And a link to fix everything, instructions, files, programs, another one stop shop, but for fixing tour oops during the learning process, courtesy of me, I am helpful but i don't think anyone ever accused me of being nice. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
Have fun, learn away, and don't be scared of it. Trust me, I have only heard of one person not having success recovering their phone, that was today so it is still undetermined if they were successful or not. Don't you wish a car had that kind of success rate.

Do you think changing the radio version or whatever will fix my problem here. I mean in my search to find out if anyone else has been having their 3G randomly disappear i havent see to much report. I just dont get how it was working fine with 2.1, once i installed froyo it started this problem, now im flashed back on 2.1 and it seems still "broken." Even the Verizon techs had no idea what was going on with it when i took it in. I mean can software screw up the hardware?
I was told by a Verizon rep that they knew that this OTA update would cause this problem in a certain percentage of devices and they just sent me a new one. The second in 2 weeks. When I went in and complained they just went straight to the computer and ordered me a new 1 both times, no ?'s asked really. Just hope you're still under warranty.

When did random reboots start?

Hi.
I am about to unroot and go back to otb stock. I am wondering if anyone knows for sure when the random reboots that I, and several others encounter, first started because I need to know whether to do the OTA after I go back to stock.
From my memory....... :
Wasn't there 2 OTA's?
And the random reboots started after installing the 2nd one?
So should I just install the first one.......orrrr......does it automatically only give one OTA direct to the 2nd one released?
Or should I not install any OTA's at all and patiently wait for Gingerbread........
Thanks!
We have MR1, MR2, and MR2.5 but I think only MR1 was an official OTA (dont quote me on it tho since I have been rooted since I got the phone and have never received an OTA). I think the reboot issue has been a problem for a lot of people for the entire time and isnt a new thing. IIRC MR1 caused quite a few reboot issues but not for everyone. I personally ran w/o any reboots until I got to 2.5 and even then I have only ever had 1. Its just what works best for you.
You will be waiting patiently for quite a while for official GB from what I have heard on the boards but you can always try out some of the GB ROMs that we have already.

You are correct Beast there has only been one official OTA. My wife is not rooted but I am
Well I went back to stock because I was gonna try to go to Verizon today and swap it out.....
I find it funny this exactly what I was going to ask today myself. I'm also running bamf remix 1.8, have tried all the radios and even installed bamf 2.0 for GB with the Mr 2.0/2.5 radios. Still got reboots. Now I want to go back to stock and unroot so I can go back to the store and swap it
Just wonder if its worth it, maybe if they let me swap SD cards
I just un-rooted my phone about two days ago. After, I did the OTA update. I hadn't seen any problems until today. I live in a 4G area and work in a (up until Monday) 3G area. Since Monday they have been testing out a 4G tower. I have had 4G until this morning, I just figured that they were still testing it out and had switched it off. Well, about an hour ago I got my first Reboot. When the phone came back up I noticed that the 4G had just came back on. I'm pretty sure that's what triggered my reboot. So in short, as long as they keep the 4G going I don't have any issues.
Just curious is the update worth doing? And if i do it do i go ahead and install the GB bamf rom and radio? or just go back to my current 1.8 remix?
im curious what you guys have your phones overclocked at? I am rooted on the RC3 bamf 3.0 and the only time I have seen reboots is when i had my phone overclocked to high. now that im at 1.42 on the bamf cpu (I disabled my setCPU) and it has been solid.

Any way to get back to gbread?

I am perfectly happy with ics but I haven't seen a thread stating if you could just rsd back to. 173 if you installed the cheesecake leak. Hopefully this will generate a positive answer from someone that has actually done it.

It does turd. Day 4 here and I'm currently RSDing right back to stock then onward to .173
Couldn't take the following anymore:
Pull down curtain becomes TOTALLY unresponsive at random times. Hot reboot required to fix.
After dialing a phone number, talking, hanging up and the going to make another call, the previous phone number I dialed is there causing me to dial a 20 digit number
Google Voice notifications do not stay in the curtain. They notify then automatically get deleted.
WiFi connectivity drops out random, dconn and reconn to fix.
Prepare for De-Turding!
...and now you know, folks, why we're apparently getting another Gingerbread update prior to ICS. Development can be fun, but be certain--Motorola knows what they're doing.

Did you do a full wipe after you installed the leak? I have a few minor issues but its still running good. Froze 30 apps though lol
My Wi-fi is bad on Gingerbread anyway.
For some reason, this Razr doesn't have the signal strength of all the other Android phones I have.
Note, while writing this message, I had a signal Drop out again ffs
Mine acted a bit strange until i did a factory reset, running zero problems since Sunday

Should always wipe after a major update like this.
I installed the ICS leak via Cheesecake and have since RSD'd back to. 173 and re rooted. Just follow the fastboot instructions and you'll be fine.

as usual people once they get their update they been crying for months now now want to go back to previous rom before update lol

Personally, I've been very content with GB. When I started seeing all the ICS leak posts, I got curious and thought, "why not?"
I've tried it, and actually thought the leak was very nice. However, I felt better going back to stock for now as it looks like a new GB OTA will be released soon, and hopefully ICS not too far after.
Really liked what I saw in the ICS build.

Everyone on the leak will begin to experience what I did. It's unlikely, but possibly, that I have a defective phone, so it'll happen.
I did do a factory reset, full wipe etc. and everything was incredible for about 4 days. Then as someone else so eloquently put it, ICS started to "Turd" on me.
Once it does that 100 times or so, you start thinking about "DeTurding" which is you're only option.
sadly, ICS isn't ready, nor will it be if we wait on Motorola.
Devs, start your threads! I'm willing to pay you to finish ICS!
Any chance you have a link to the files?

the cool thing though, is that we have "the" ICS base including kernel to build off of.. granted, we can't make many kernel tweaks beyond what's 'allowed' w/ a locked bootloader, but I believe having an ICS kernel directly from Moto will help w/ the CM9 builds etc..
Lots less to go wrong w/ having proper drivers etc. to work off of.
(hopefully anyway)
EDIT:.. I just fastbooted back to .173 and all seems well
I just installed ICS today, and I haven't experienced any of these problems at all. I'm curious as to how many of you factory reset after the install? Everything I've read says factory reset after install does the trick.
I absolutely love ICS! (but I'm glad to hear RSD works if I DO run into any problems)
\\Carved into this thread by my ICS RAZR//

I was trying to fast boot back earlier today and it it would get to the 5th item of flashing and give me an unknown error and fail. Luckily Matt G was able to flash back the 4G radio for me. He mentioned deleting the OEM lines will clear the errors.
I am not the greatest when it comes to command lines and all that junk. I have only ever used his utility but 1.5 wasn't restoring the 4G either. Now I have 1.51...
Is RSD just simply download the file, select the "uncompress and flash" or is there some other modification needed to flash the file?
Just hoping someone with a bit more know how can chime in.
*UPDATE:I re downloaded everything and it worked. Must have just been a bad DL of the RSD File.

Testing Razr Maxx and need advice

My everyday phone is a Verizon Galaxy S3 that is suffering from 4G problems since an OTA update in March. I have tried everything to restore its former glory including flashing back to ICS and installing every update and firmware from beginning to end. I can get 4G coverage but no longer get it at home or work where it really matters.
So I got my hands on a used Razr Maxx to use as a comparison as it is known for good reception. Much to my surprise the Razr acts pretty much identical to my S3 as far as 4G goes.
After some reading I have seen some other Razr users complain about signal degradation since Jelly Bean... so I want to flash back to an older software to test again, I am currently on whatever the latest OTA software is.
I am a complete Razr nOOb so any advice and input is appreciated.I would prefer a stock Rom. I also need rooting directions and such.. I didn't notice any pre-rooted stock roms.
Thanks

Razr has a locked bootloader and you cannot downgrade once you update it. So if you're on JB, you cannot go back to ICS.

You could try a custom rom, after a upgraded to JB my signal started to suck so I installed a kexec based rom 4.2.2 and it got better somewhat..
