[Q] A few video questions - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Let me preface this with "Yes, I did search". However, I know I am horrible at searching. For some reason the string I use rarely results in the desired results. Nonetheless, after 30-40 minutes of searching I feel reasonably sure that either these questions haven't been asked before, or the answers are so simple, no one felt the need to ask them.
I've got some music videos on my Note, and I'd like to play them on my TV through an HDMI port.
1) Is there a micro USB to HDMI conversion cable?
2) Is the Note capable of a video output?
3) Is there a way to make a video playlist so that the music videos will play back to back without my having to start a new one every time?
Thanks for any answers... or even links to threads asking these same questions that I wasn't able to find.

1. You need a mhl adapter. Check amazon.
2. Yes, with said adapter
3. Check Google market, there are a few video players that support playlists.
Yes, I called it Google market lol.

Is this the adapter you are talking about? Seems to fit the bill.

Has anyone run video out off their Note yet? Any hints for best results?
Mobo Video Pro just locks up. Couldn't figure out a way to get MixZing to play more than one music video at a time. I tried WinAmp, and I'm sure I can make a playlist, but I'd really rather just have the player open the folder and play everything in the folder.

Oh, I see, so the phone won't charge off the TV, I'll still need to use my OE charger to keep the phone charged?

That's interesting. Does the screen shut off when playing over the TV or does it stay on?

Works on my Westinghouse TV and yes the phone screen stays on. You can buy remotes for your phone as well. Or use wireless controllers to play games over the TV.

If you have a PS3, you can use your existing PS3 controller as well (if you're rooted), since it's bluetooth.
Those adapters support audio out as well? I think I need to scrounge up some extra cash...

Yes they do audio out too.
If you use PS3 controller you need sixasis drivers. You can also use the wiimote with the correct drivers.

Still haven't found a good video player. Any suggestions?
Edit: mvideoplayer is working very well for me.

hdmi out

hi guys,
after abit of help. i bought a hdmi adaptor, from amazon this one http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007K8NNOA/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00
so that i would be able to play content from my phone straight through to my tv. I also bought a new hdmi lead and i connected using the phone charger and lead that came with the phone.
When i plug it all together it shows on the phone that hdmi out is connected and i can display video or photos on the external device. But no matter what i do i cannot get a picture to display on the tv.
Am i doing something wrong? Or does it never work? I tried rebooting the phone i tested the hdmi lead to make sure it works. Is there another option on the phone i need to select to i need to use a different app?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Are you on the stock rom/kernel? I can't say I use this feature as much as I thought I would, but I have noticed some kernels break this feature (though I can't say which ones anymore - been a while) and I've seen some roms break this as well. I don't know if this was a placebo or what, but I also noticed that it broke for me after removing some of Sprint's or HTC's bloatware... I think it was the transfer app, but it doesn't make much sense to me why.
I'd try it on a full stock rom/kernel first to make sure it's not software related. Then try it on multiple TVs. I actually had an experience once where it wouldn't display on my TV, but worked fine on my HDMI enabled pc monitor - same symptoms you're describing. Tried different kernel, all was better. But I've also read about people just having a bad mhl adapter or bad hdmi cable too.
As above it needs to be supported by rom and kernal. Try a stock configuration and see what happens. If that fails it might be a faulty adaptor, these cheap ones are known to fail easily.
i appreciate your guys help. i am on stock rom/kernal. my tv is pretty new. The phone is showing as having a hdmi connection so wasn't sure if it could still be the adaptor? i will try it on another tv at the weekend. if it still doesn't work maybe send the adaptor back?
so it should display whilst playing a film through the stock video player? i dont need to use a special programme or anything else?
It automatically displays whatever is on the phone's screen. No need for anything special beyond plugging it in. It could still be a faulty adapter even though the phone shows hdmi.
Another idea might be to double check your tv out settings on the phone. Make sure those are correct.

SGS2 as a media streamer?

Hi,
Im thinking of using my S2 as a media streamer now I have the S3. Initial tests have been mixed, with the best performance coming from BubbleUPnP and MX Player, Does anyone have any hints and tips that might improve things. Also is there a good, Android to Android remote app? As would be nice to be able to control it remotely.
Any hints or tips would be great.
Thanks.
Sell it and get a proper dedicated device.
Lol, the idea is to keep it as a backup. I'm trying to make the most of it and not just hide it in cupboard.

Well, you're asking how to best pound a square peg into a round hole... but anyways; if you want it to perform its best as a "media streamer", I'd say factory reset/full wipe it, debloat it as much as you can, only install the bare minimum of what you want on it.
As far as remote controlling: http://www.google.com/search?q=control+another+android+device
Thanks for the advice. I know Ill probably end up copying large mkv files rather than streaming them. The mhl cable wont work with the S3 and rather than bin them Im hoping my square peg can fit a hole like this.

You link solves my main problem, I kept finding Remote desktop software when I looked. Not Android to Android. If nothing else makes an interesting project.

Why won't the mhl cable work with the s3? Isn't the s3 an mhl device?
Edit: ah, I see the s3 has its own special mhl adapter that isn't compatible with other mhl devices. Bravo, Samsung. WTF.

MicroHDMI audio

Bought a microHDMI cable and I get picture when I hook it up to my TV, but no audio. Is there some setting that I have to enable to get audio? Or does anyone have a fix? I tried a search but not getting any definitive answes. Thanks!
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using Tapatalk 2
Which ROM are you using? Most of the AOSP Jelly Bean ROMs don't have fully-functional HDMI outputs. I'm using Team Baked BlackBean, and it works fine.
i've not found a way to push audio through my micro HDMI cable either, im fully Stock. i havent tried recently though, i'll try now. also, i remember reading a post a while back saying it may depend on which cable you are using (im possibly imagining this though) i'll see if i can find the post.
---------- Post added at 01:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:19 PM ----------
ok i lie, it works fine on Stock. mind, last time i tried would have been march or so.
Edit: sorry, that wasnt an awfully helpful post. have you tried plugging into different devices? just did a quick search, have you tried this?

What has worked for me on a couple of TVs that don't get audio is to turn the volume on the Prime to zero, plug in the HDMI, wait a couple of seconds, then turn the volume on the Prime up.
Bit annoying it doesn't seem to be able to always negotiate audio properly on some devices just by plugging the cable straight in.

ok, i just tried baked and still no go...video works perfectly, but no audio. are you using a specific player or just the stock one? have you tried different file formats or just like youtube or something?
just trying to figure out what the problem could be. also are there any settings that enable sound over hdmi? i assume there isn't but just making sure.
thanks in advance

Mabye its a connection problem. The cable-prime connection is a bit flimsy. I am also on stock and its works great with all players, but sometimes I have to move the cable a bit in the connector to get proper sound.

I am on stock and is having same problem sometime getting no sound. Just disconnect and reconnect the hdmi cable. You will get sound after 2-3 tries, at least works for me
Yup, same here! I just unplugged it and then plugged it straight back in and it works!
Ok I'll try that later on. Thanks again guys
like the other poster stated you need your volume to be turned up on your prime for audio to come over hdmi, weird I know but thats the trick.
If you're on a JB rom - from my own experience, it is unfortunately T.V. selective
The T.V. in the lounge was unfortunately unable to have audio out either, however the T.V. in my room had both the audio and video out without any problems.
Hope this helps.
I am completely stock. I have had to jiggle the HDMI connection with the Prime and the volume needs to be on; if it is off it's a no go for me.
Oh just an update guys. Never got it to work on one tv, worked on all others, so not sure. Must be tv specific for some reason..

Use galaxy s4 with head unit designed for ios

Is there any way to get a car head unit to work with the s4? Whenever I plug in my phone to my head unit using the use cable, it just charges and doesn't play music through the head unit. Anyone know of a way to get this to work?

If the headunit was designed to be used with an iPhone...then no. It depends on a specific format and directory structure in that case.
The other possibility is using it as a USB device, but the phone can't do it stock because of the 'Media' nonsense. What you need is for it to work as a USB mass storage when it's plugged in (which probably requires root).

It depends on the head unit - I know for my Kenwood system there's an app that allows for playback from local storage.

I couldn't get Pandora to work. Local music only. It's pretty stupid, so I just use an AUX cable and use the USB port to charge. I had an idea that someone could rip apart the Kenwood app, and make some sort of hack that plays all audio through the USB port. But I'm not experienced enough to do that and there's probably not enough interest for someone else to get it done.

There is indeed a way to use USB mass storage on our phones. It was an app that was posted to the xda front page shortly after our phones came out
You know I was sitting here thinking after i read all this that if possibly there were a way to make androids react to head units like iOS does. For instance the Pandora crap. That way we didn't always have to grab our phones and look at them therefore distracting us from road conditions. Just an idea and if this were possible?

Unfortunately, most head unit manufacturers have designed their decks to support crapple devices only. There are a select few that support Android. My deck will not play through usb on my s4 but I can connect with bluetooth and browse music on they phone from the deck without ever touching the phone. That will depend on the BT support of the deck. It's a pity that the vast quantity of stupid people on this planet with Apple products still ruin it for us educated people that want nothing to do with it.

How I fixed my Kenwood/Galaxy S4 issue.
sorry if my response is late or outdated but I was having the same issue with a Kenwood head unit I installed yesterday. For me it would not work even with the Kenwood app so I downloaded an app from the Play Store call "USB mass storage enabler"... it's free. I simply opened the app after installing it and told it to enable USB mass storage. Now when I hook my s4 up to the head unit it takes about two seconds to read and then plays my music perfectly. I am able to search by folder, genre, artist Lor album etc. Works perfectly 100% ... even shuffling. just wanted to share if anyone else was continuing to have problems or had any in the future.
