super charging ! can anyone confirm it? - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hey guys
we know that sony claims the SXS will fully charge in 45 min
however so far mine needs about two hours to fully charge, and many other people confirmed this
while there are some people say it charge fast
so let us get to the bottom of this
who can confirm that his device charges in 45min ? and is the charger similar to the old sony-erricson chargers? or is it a new Sony branded super charger?
is it software related? that can be solved with the ICS , or it's the charger that matters

I think it does indeed charge fast, It just takes a few days for the battery to kick in I think.
There was a post from someone about it, and after a few days it does indeed pick up with charging.

that's what I thought at the begining and some people said that
but what made me confuesed is that other people relate the super charging to the new charger !
where some others ( like me ) got the old charger which is even branded as ( sony erricsion !)
so in a few days I will reply back if the charging speed has changed or not

yes have the same impression

Got mine XS last night ran the battery down 1%, full charge took 3 hrs this morning. Although it said 100% I powered off the phone and carry on charging until battery gauge showed complete charge.

from the articles and reviews I read... my understanding is that from a depleted battery it would charge up to 80% in 30 minutes and then slow down and charge the remaining 20% at a normal pace. This was to not cause damage to the battery by going to full charge at the fast pace.
Cheers

Correct. And this is using the new "Fast charger" Sony bundled with the S, which gives an output amperage higher than standard USB.
With the "old" charger it takes a lot longer to charge.

My charger output: 5.0 vdc, 850 mA, same as motorola charger.

My XS charger outputs less than my HTC charger. Charging from 10% to full on the latter takes over 3 hours so how does this super charging work?

Please take a look on this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545002
They're mentioning that it's possible to receive two different chargers in Xperia's S box: EP800 and EP850. They're completely different chargers, and have very different outputs.
EP800 has output of 850mAh, and EP850 has an output of 1500mAh.
For those with 'super charging' available, could you please confirm which one is the charger you have received? Those that are charging slowly, which one you got there?
Would be nice to know that. Unfortunally, no one posted on the 'What did you get in your Xperia S Box?' thread which one was the charger model shipped with their boxes.
I think this was one of the 'selling points' for Xperia S, so this should be available to all...

EP800 here - bought from Expansys.

I have the ep850 charger. I have the phone for 6 days now. Let the battery empty yesterday then plugged in the charger. After 30 minutes it was around 45% charged. Took 1h 40m to fully charge.
Sent from my LT26i using XDA

AFAIK they never said it only took 45min, I heard 1hr 10min.
And if you have the EP850 (fast charger) it does indeed charge in 1hr)

Same experience here. 1 hour 15 minutes from empty to 100%.

Looks like people from the netherlands got some good deals.
They got the new charger (EP850) and a voucer for a smart wirelesss headset pro aswell.
People in denmark get the old Sony ericsson charger (EP800) No voucher, no leather pounch and no smart tags either.

That goes for the UK too.

Anyone know if the EP-850 is available for purchase anywhere? A quick search turns up nothing.

But there was a extra screen protector in the box, and regarding the smart tags, sony denmark has announced that they will send it to the one who has bought the phone. But the missing super charger is almost cheating, as it has been mentioned many places as a feature of the phone.

I've been doing a search aswell with no luck. I'm guessing it will available later on. Because you can buy the EP800 separately. So we just have to be patienced.

Charging issue

Did you guys notice the battery take too long for full charge? Especially charging while in use. It seems doesnt charge at all
Could anyone help me out? I was charging and surfing web the XTZ at the same time, but the battery even went down by 2 to 3% in 3 hours even though the tablet was charging. Is it common or should I exchange it?
Thanks
Is this with the charger and cable it came with? I am not having this problem but different chargers and cables can cause issues
Sent from my SGP312 using Tapatalk HD
Yea I had mine at 10%, put it in to charge. Come back home 6-7 hrs later and it's only at 44%?!?

Yes. I used the original charger and cable. When I let the screen on while charging, it seems like its just preventing the battery run down, instead of adding more charge. I guess I got a defective battery. When the screen off, it just take too long for full charge, like almost 9-10 hrs. I test the cable and charger with another device it seem working fine. How long it take for you to do full charge when screen of btw?

I don't know exactly how long. But charging and using the device at the same time is no problem and adds charge at an ok rate. I would guess that a total charge would take around 4 hours but it is a guess.

Have you tried Stamina mode while charging? I believe it shuts down some background processing while the tablet is asleep. Might help speed up charging.

I did some research and this is what I came up with...
-- the USB charging seems to be hard-limited to a maximum of 500mAh intake. This is consistent with the original USB specifications, although no one really adheres to those anymore anyways. Charging with 500mAh is bound to take a long time and presumable even light usage (screen-on + sufing) will prevent charging at all and still drain the battery or keep it at the same charge level. I consider this a quite major design fault and wonder why Sony did this - if they had any strong reasons (overheating near USB port due to the thin build and no heatsink properties of the material?) or if it can and will be adressed later on by software (I am not sure if that is the case...)
-- this also means that using different chargers (if they work at all, the Tablet seems to be picky and did not make use of two generic ones that were tried, only a HTC wallcharger was accepted next to the original Sony one) that put out more than those 500mAh will either not work or they will deliver just the 500mAh the USB port accepts as a maximum
-- however the charging cradle contacts will readily charge the tablet with up to 1500mAh
If one were to assume the worst of Sony one could say they probably limited the USB charging to a minimum to push the sales of their original chargers. On the other hand one can argue that SLOW charging is actually better for the battery longevity, so Sony could defend that move with that reasoning...

There is a thing that while playing "heavy" games and charging from usb connected to pc it even dicharges. If connect it to stock charger (1.5A) it manages to charge but very very slow. There are chargers for 3.1A or even 5A which will charge your device very quickly.

Have you actually tried one of those with success? If so what is yout exact serial number for the XTZ ? As I laid out in my post a little bit above yours the XTZ seems to not take more than 500mAh via USB even from any charger...

I guess this how they boost the sale of their dock and avoid overheating..limit the USB output. They also sell the micro USB and charger on sony website. Dont know if it could make any difference.
I had my tablet plugged into my pc and while I was using it the battery actually went up a 1 or 2 percent. I got mine two days ago so maybe it's an early production issue?

I noticed that if I set the brightness to the minimum, I would be able to charge while screen on. If I set to max or somewhere middle, i would not. did it happen to you? if not I think my battery got issue then.
I believe mine was on auto brightness for that moment. I did notice that in the last two days, full brightness drains the battery A LOT. Within 2 hrs of screen time I was down to 55% battery

Just got mine XTZ and so happy with it, but same thing it take so long for charge it even with the wallplug.
I just notice, i have the XZ and if i use the cable directly on the phone it take a long time for charge it too. But if u use the dock my phone charge in less than one hour ( or maybe a little bit more), So i can guess is a usb limitation on the sony product (or maybe a marketing trap)
Sorry for my English.
In my case, since i've the Galaxy S4 ATT version, i use that wall charger i've not tried the one that comes with the tablet but the S4 charger is a 2A while the Tablet Z is 1.5, with the S4 one + stamina mode + auto brightness + special mode(only 1 core running under clocked to 1036Mhz, conservative governor) my tablet charges ultra fast from 10% to 50% in 1 hour and half or even less, also my standby time is up to 8 days at full battery.
If you have your tablet rooted and you want to use my special mode, just download CPU Adjuster from Play Store, give it root permissions, then create a screen off profile, 1 core, max 1036Mhz and that's it.

why should it be like that? We have a 6Amp battery in there and if it WOULD charge all the time with 500mAh max we would have a charging time of 12 hours. But if the battery reaches 80% charge charging will be much slower. That means if your statement would be true, we would have charging time of over 14-15 hours.
I charged mine in 6-7 hours. 6000/6=1000 so it´s normal for our 1,5 Amp charger.
Okay, tested it. Shorty story is, there is no difference between charging via dock and charging directly via USB port.
Long story:
- variation tested: SGP312 (WLAN 32GB)
- Battery percentage at start: 58%
- Charging time: 70 minutes
- Charger used - the one which came with the Tablet. The dock does not have a charger in either case, you have to use the Tablet one (which I do) or a 3rd party charger for it.
The only difference between the tests is that once the USB cable went directly into the Tablet and once the USB cable went into the dock.
Battery percentage after 70 Minutes with USB cable: 80%
Battery percentage after 70 Minutes with Dock: 81%
So basically, it got from 60 to 80% about ~1150mA / hour independently of the charging method.
As a sidenote, bringing it from 80% back to 58% took 28 minutes of playing a 1080p mkv at full display brightness,

[Q] Charging not strong enough?

Hello,
when the tablet was in the charger with 1000 mAh and my GF was playing plant vs zombies 2, it was not enough and was dead in 2 hours. So I put there the official charger 1500 mAh but then still it was not enough and was dead again.
Right now I tried to turn off the Location, Wi-Fi and she is playing. But is this normal??? Jesus you should be able to play with all the functions turned on and in the charger, not???
Edit: so it was emptied again even with everything off...
Edit2: i will try the origin cable because I used a different one

Did it show the charging icon while she was playing the game? I'm curious if it might be plugged but not recognizing that it should be drawing power from the charger...
Because charging cables are differently wired, you MUST either use the original cable or a cable which is definitely known to have the same wiring as the original one.

Differently wired how? I didn't realize there were wiring differences, please elaborate if you can, feel free to get technical.
I tried plugging my Z2 Tablet into a USB cable from a powered hub (computer off though), which I've used to charge my phone and my Kindle, and I know it wouldn't have much power, but it wouldn't charge at all, no charging icon, nothing. I've had no trouble charging it with a dedicated charger though.
~Troop
So yes,
1. the charging icon is there
2. I even logged the history and during playing the plant vs zombies 2, the power is oscilating around +- the same level but still going down slowly as a trend
3. I tried today to get the power back to 25% and now I am charging it. I have the battery widget where it shows getting mA about 390 to 890 maximum. But even it is the original charger, original cable and the charger is 1500 mA it seems that the maximum level is 890???
Can someone else try Batter monitor widget what they get from it???
Edit:
It sucks. It announced even today DURING charging from the original charger and cable that the charging is not strong enough. Wtf?
Edit2:
Here they say it is charged under 3 hours. Not my case :-/ http://www.digitalversus.com/tablet/sony-xperia-z2-tablet-p19609/test.html
Ha, that is really funny. I am from the Czech Republic and called the Sony support. They forwarded me to Xperia support. At Xperia support the girl said that she cannot provide me exact information because official release date here is 8th of April so she doesnt have the manuals etc.
Then my type is 511E3 which she again was absolutely no aware what is the type because I should have 621 or maybe 521 but not 511.
So I can try the support line next week with the question how many mA should go to the tablet during charging.
But what she said was also that the charging time could be up to 6:20. But more than 6 hours? Maybe it was about the Z1 model? And also told me that playing games with the charger will still result in draining the battery.
I need some other guys here who can test it with playing some games and check the mA during charging...
I don't have a Z2, but just wanted to mention that cnet saw the same (no charge while playing) in their review: "[..] the tablet lost power even when it was plugged in to the mains" http://www.cnet.com/products/sony-xperia-z2-tablet/2/.
I never experienced any of this. There's probably a problem with your unit.

And have you tried to charge it during heavy playing of some game? Which game, how long?
Can you test how much mA are you getting from the charger inside the tablet (battery monitor widget can do this)
I tried it yesterday playing "The Cave" for about 1 hour. Tablet was charging using a four port no name charger and a different cable the that the one provided.
I did not really check for anything , I just noticed the tablet got mildly hot.
I did not measure the current while playing, but I did earlier this week-end though.
I tested 3 chargers plus the provided one. A Galaxy S III charger, An ASUS TF300 and the 4-port no-name I used yesterday.
If I recall correctly I got around 0.9A from the GS3 and original charger and around 1.2A from the TF300 and 4-port ones.
I do some more thorough testing and let you know. I use a device on the charger output to measure how much current is coming through.
How long do you guys charge the tablet? I started with about 19% and to full 100% it was like 7-8 hours. It was turned on without wifi (stamina mode). I will try to charge it while turned off but still it is strange...
I dont know. Battery life is ok but the charging sucks for me. Any ideas if it is just me?

Yawn... Please use the charger and the cable which come with the device (which I bet my grandma on you didn't)! Other chargers or cable have either too low current or wrong wiring (which disables fast charging) or both.
The charging time over USB is 4-5 hours, like the first generation Tablet Z.
Yawn, yawn, if you took a look then you would read from this topic that I use original cable and original charger.
If the battery is 6600 mA and charger 1500 mA then the minimum for charging is 4,3 hours approximately. And as I said my maximum charging is 890 mA. So either something is taking 600 mA during the charging or the charger is bad or the cable is bad or I dont know.
But if it is in the stamina mode and still the maximum charging is 890 mA then something is weird.
I am asking now for about 5 times. Could somebody test during charging how many mA is going into the tablet? (You can use Battery Monitor Widget from google play).
Neither Xperia support is able to give me clear answer because the Tablet was not officially released here (which is funny, I have it).
Thank you.

Dude, then simply go and exchange the charger if it is faulty. No need to make long XDA threads out of that.

Its not about charger. Or maybe it is. I want to know exactly how many mA are going to the tablet during charging. Nobody was able to give me the answer. It could be faulty charger, faulty cable, messy apps in the tablet (which I doubt) or whatever.
And Sony support, Xperia support is not able to give me clear answer to this. And also another guy in a review had similar problem. If we are in a Z2 Tablet topic then I supose that this is the right place to ask such questions... Not?
You can't just do 6600 divided by 1500. You are losing current all over the place when charging. It will probably be at least 50% wastage in heat, resistance in the wires etc etc. Also, the charger may say it does 1500, but that is peak when it's brand new under perfect conditions and the internal components will age and become less efficient over time too.
If you are using the tablet for a game, it will be running the processor at max power and drawing lots of current and all the heat it generates from the cpu and the battery during this time is wasted energy don't forget. If you want to battery to charge, you will need a charger that provides enough current to power the tablet and another 1000ma or so on top of that to charge your battery.
I bet Sony will state somewhere that you can only use it for low power activities like watching videos while on the dock if you want the battery to charge.

Thanks a lot!
So it just means that in general with the original charger you are able to get to 10-13% per hour. So in average usage 9 hours of charging, heh. I saw yesterday (have to check it at home) that I had also around 20% per hour.
But in general these figures are normal and the usage of a battery with a little bit more heavy tasks is not very good. And charging can take a LONG time. I tried to charge it while turned off and I think you can get there below 6 hours.

But in general these figures are normal and the usage of a battery with a little bit more heavy tasks is not very good. And charging can take a LONG time. I tried to charge it while turned off and I think you can get there below 6 hours.

mm.after read all of reply above, it is quite weird that only get 800mah while using 1500mah support charging cable? Maybe can try better quality of cable and also the power source, it is very crucial to get that. I have try some trial and error with different cables and charging with my galaxy s3, i find that with good quality of cable, i managed to get 1000mah max , but if using with cheap cable or power bank, i only managed to get 400-800mah. even after a long time using the original s3 cable, it will reduce to only 600mah. So my advice is try charging with different cable and find the best cable to charge ur device, if it is 1500mah supported, so i think it should be support to 1500mah. Thank you.

No, it is not weird at all since the tests were done with the screen turned ON, draining half the power.
The first line, battery only, tells you how much the screen and semi idle state is draining, with brightness at minimum. Cranking brightness up to maximum increased an extra 2.5% per hour drain if I recall correctly.
Charging with screen off would be about 20% per hour, or 5 hours to fully recharge. More or less in line with what people is reporting.
Code:
Battery only: -721 mA (-10.79%/h)
Official charger (1500mAh): +719 mA (+10.76%/h)
So, 721+719= 1440 (+21%/h), pretty close to the rated 1500 for the charger.

Qualcommc chargers

Does anyone here have certified Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 chargers? How long does your Z3 charge from 0% ti full? what's the brand of your charger. mine is the quick charger from docomo and don't really charges my z3 significantly faster compared to stock charger
Sent from my D6633 using XDA Free mobile app
Anyone else that have any experience with the Quick Charge 2.0 for Sony Z3??
I'm looking into this as it takes the phone forever to charge.
I'm buying the Tenergy charger as I write this.
I have 2 T-Mobile Z3's that I will drain to about 5% both. Plug one into the stock charger, and the other into the "Quick Charge 2.0" charger.
I'll post the results somewhere when I'm finished with this little test.

Thank you! Will be great :good:
Got in the mail today, it definitely charges faster. Phone gets hotter as well.
I'll compare it to the stock one sometime next week when I have time. Busy weekend
Plugged it in at 65 percent, now 25 minutes later I'm at 95%.
I'm actually watching the percentage go up as I'm typing this.
6 minutes after typing this I am at 100%, and the phone is at 106°F. Which is perfectly acceptable in my opinion.
I wouldn't suggest playing any type of cpu/gpu intense game while charging with this however.
I do notice coil whine coming from the charger... I won't be using this to charge over night so I'm not worried about the noise. It's not loud, but coil whine is something extremely annoying to me xD
I'll be using this charger if I need that extra boost. (After work if I have plans for the night etc...)

[Q] Total time to full charge Z2 with EP880 ?

Hello guys, I have a question , I've bought my new Z2 D6503 for a week, I charge it with EP880 charger (Input ~250mA) + EC803 cable from 1% to 100% about 3h30m, but in my country, people have EP880 charger with 300mA Input and take only 3h10m to full charge so I borrow their charger and test with my phone, it takes around 3h20m, so are my charger (250mA) and charging time normal ?
Thank you for reading, please help me, I'm very worried about it
I dont actualy know but with basic math we can
Sony standard charger-
1500mAh

Thks for your reply, but 2:20hrs from 1% to 100%, are you serious ? @@, if you get a look at the info in your charger, at Input line, you will see 100-240V~250mA or 300mA depend on your market, I can post 2 kind of the same EP880 with different input current if you want to check, I aslo see the revew from phonearena, they took 212m~3h32m to charge it full, but I don't know what kind of charger they used. But do you think there is a different charge time between 2 same phone, ex. D6502 and D6503 ?
Sr for my bad English, cheers!

Hm... maybe yours has QC 2.0 so you can reach nice time like that .
So can you tell me, with 2 kind of charger above, which one I should use ? And does the charger time around 3h30m prove that my charger is still good ? Or maybe cable problem ? Because max current pull in my phone with both of them only 1100mA, no more

LG promo cradle slow to charge?

I just got my cradle and it took 4 hours for my battery to charge. Is that how long it's supposed to take?

Its meant to discharge fully and then charge your battery.

I don't understand. The battery was fully discharged in my phone then I put it in the cradle. 4 hours later the light turned green.
I've noticed it's pretty slow. I don't know if it's 4 hours, but it's definitely at least 3

Your phone will never truly fully discharge the battery (safety measure) it has to save enough to shut down properly. So that is part of it... I don't know if the cradle is set up to fast charge either... I doubt it, considering the phone should last longer than four hours any way. I'm happy to have a FREE extra battery, and cradle... It charges the battery, that's all I'm really looking for... I you are unhappy with it, I suppose you could send it back...

I'll try to remember to check mine next time. I don't think it takes that long though!

No such thing is happening. Please do not spread misinformation.
It charges slower than the phone because it does not have Quick Charge, it's a very simple charger. Label says it puts out 1.6A at 4.4V, which means the battery probably charges at about 1A on average. Charging is never 100% efficient and charging does not progress in a linear fashion, it slows down past 80% to near-trickle, otherwise the battery would overheat.
Chargers don't discharge batteries to charge them. This isn't 1990 and our battery isn't NiCad.
I just don't know why they're calling it a cradle. You're not resting your device on it. Those are cradles, this is a battery charger.
THIS is a cradle: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...ue&ref_=ox_sc_act_title_2&smid=A1LWHYTZATVG8I
However, this thread is otherwise interesting, I've used my battery charger for a few cycles, meh, it charges my spare battery overnight.
I know this is an older thread, but what's the experience with this cradle? I just got a used V10 on Swappa with this cradle and it does seem like it's taking a while to charge. I have no problem with how long it's taking, but I need to know if it's defective so I can do something about it on Swappa.

It doesn't have fast charging like the phone itself... It's fine.
Common sense isn't all that common
