Android os/services still use data even with droidwall enabled - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted my phone yesterday using MyGKernel and installed droidwall.I allowed all apps to use wifi and disallowed all of them from using 3G but android background services still use data.I got background data and autosync disabled. Also I noticed that after rooting my phone, the screen turns on by itself in random times.I'm running Android 2.3.6,please help !

go to settings - wireless and networks/mobile networks/ use packet data, data roaming. both off, to disable data via cell provider.
i dont know about the screen issue, some app waking you unit up?, you dont need droidwall if you disable packet data.

But I need the packet data to be on for a vodafone app called vodafone buzz. Its an app that lets me connect to fb/twitter/msn/yahoo/gtalk for 1 dollar a month and I don't get charged for internet data. But the problem is the android services use data for no reason even with droidwall enabled.Oh and I fixed the screen thing,it was a problem with an app.

yes its a fact of Android you have data on so they connect .
try Better Battery Stats to see if you can pin down further .

Cannot enable 3G Mobile data until rebooting?

Hi,
After turning off 3G Mobile Data (to save battery), I cannot re-enable the 3G Mobile Data again until rebooting the phone.
Specifically, I used Quick Setting on stock ROM to manually turn off 3G Mobile Data, then leave the phone without mobile data several hours. I am never able to re-open 3G Mobile Data except I reboot the phone and 3G Mobile Data is auto available again.
Now, I'm using Fusion 1.2 ROM with SuperPower (which optimizes the phone usage to save battery), and the problem is exactly the same: if SuperPower auto turn off 3G Mobile Data, I can never re-enable it until rebooting ?!?
Please help...

How do you prefer WiFi over Data?

Hi guys,
Do you know if AT&T automatically prefers WiFi over 4G? If not, is there a way to set it so that I can save on my 2GB limit imposed by ATT? thanks

Set WiFi sleep policy to "never" - then the only things that will use cell data when you are connected to an access point are market checkins (but not market downloads) and MMS. Maybe not even MMS.
Note that the phone won't automatically connect to open APs that you haven't connected to before.
If you have wifi sleep policy set to "when screen is off", background data will be over the cell connection.

Sorry but I can't find this setting. I'm looking in power saving settings and the only thing i see is turn off wifi when NOT connected with mobile AP. Does mobile access point mean wifi or cell data?
Settings>Wireless and network>Wifi settings hit menu and select Advanced

thanks,
just checked and its set to never.
I think you want to control access of data retrieval via cell network, right?
what I did was set the receiver options to airplane mode and then only enable the WiFi. That keeps the cell net from connecting. Also d/l an app to monitor your usage for piece of mind.

With APN On/Off, it's a free app. I turn off the data and can still do everything else. It even has an option to keep MMS enabled

turn off data while on wifi to save battery?

While on wifi, do I need to turn off Data in order to save battery? I *think* the phone will use the wifi if its available anyway instead of cellular Data but will actually turning off Data while wifi is enabled and connected save battery?
The data is automatically turned off while wi-fi is connected unless you have some rogue app that insists to use cell data connection.

Note, this is only if "wifi sleep policy" is "never".
Otherwise, it'll go to the cell connection when the screen is off.
The only app I know of right now that can force cell data traffic while wifi is connected is the Market when it does its initial compatibility checks. (Downloads still go over wifi.)

[Q] Problem with connection data

Hi, I have a sony xperia mini pro in 2011 with the 2.3 version, I have a problem with the data connection. When I try to connect to the wi-fi in my router my provider charges extra making me waste money. The settings in mobile networks I turned off the data connection and the notification bar tells me 'Connection disabled date'. I've also try to turn it on without sim and use only and always the wi-fi, access to everything but not to play store that says to enable background data connection or something like that, then I went to the settings and turn the play store was opened without any problems. I put the sim and again because of the traffic data I wasted money.

I don't understand your problem. You don't want to use mobile internet? Turn it off, delete APNs, don't use it.

OOS 3.1.3 whiches to mobile data when WIFI network lacks internet

In my school we have a WiFi network which require you to log in through a web browser. It's the first page that pops up when accessing the internet. But because I have to login before I can use the internet Android thinks the network doesn't have an internet connection and therefore uses my mobile data which in turn means that the login page doesn't show when I try to use chrome. And I have to switch off mobile data to force the phone to use the WiFi network.
Long story short: Is there a way to disable mobile data completely when connected to a WiFi network, regardless of the WiFi's internet availability?
No, there is no way to disable mobile data expect if you disable mobile data by your own.

Or use Tasker to do the trick.
Or use macrodroid to disabke Mobile Data if connected with your prefered WLAN.
