[Q] Cant play media - DLNA and Play on - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Has anyone yet tried to link their Xperia S to their PC via the (connected devices (DLNA link with PS3 Media server and Serviio), each time i try and play a basic avi file, i get a error message "Cannot show media. File format not supported", although in the stock video player it will play the same avi file downloaded to the phone.
Likewise when playing standard avi's via the stock video player, using the play on feature will again create a error, file format not supported.
Even if a record a movie from the phone itself it will not show on my bravia 46HX803 via the play on feature.
only images seem to work, which i will say the 3d camera images on my 3DTV look really cool.

The sony dlan is limited especially the older tv so you can play (dvd?) mpeg4, mpg, jpeg, mp3, m2ts, few more definately not mkv, avi, dvix xvid
sorry
for refference

look under section connectors-> dlan redenders
This is applicable for most of them even the 2012 tv

Did you try DTS and dolby digital since since i got a home surround so I am interesting

Thanks for the info, the links helped in understanding why i cannot use the Play on feature with Avi's etc.. I will try and see if i can link up with my Blu-ray player. Shame this feature doesn't work and i didnt try a movie with a DTS audio stream.
Still not understanding why i cant stream from my PC DLNA server to the xperiaS via serviio or PSM, again cant play that format but it can if it is installed on the phone?

I basically use a combination of BubbleUPnP and DicePlayer. This will play most video files just fine.

Tcpmp 2010

This is just my personal build that works best for me. Made up of mostly old but a small percentage of new components from BIMBAM & LBE TEAM. Comes with 2 players. One plays FLV, FLV4, RMVB, the other player will not play these but will play MPEG2, VCD, SVCD, DVD & CINEPAK. Both players will play WMV, SVQ1/SVQ3, MP4, AVI, MPEG and many more common audio and video formats. I use one player as my main player cause it handles most formats except MPEG2 & CINEPAK. Both players are skinable.
TIPS:
Some QT files will play if the extention is changed from QT to MOV or AVI
VOB & DAT files will play if extention is changed to MPG. If the codec is MPEG1 they will play in Both players. VOB & DAT files are MPEG1 & MPEG2 videos so all will play.
No build of TCPMP will play FLV files that use the H.263 OR H.264 codecs but other files that use that use the H.263 & H.264 codecs will play.
The LYRIC plugin works very well. All you have to do is put the LRC file in the same folder as the MP3 and make sure the file names match and the lyrics for that song will play automatically when the song starts. The lyrics will not show if the MP3 has album art.

do you mind to send one to [email protected]
I can't access it due to company's firewall
By the way, is your new rmvb plug-in used in this one? Or should I update after install this one?
Thank you very much.

I tried sending it but my Yahoo! is not letting upload attachments for some odd reason. U might want to ask a friend to download. Sorry I will try again in the morning. It does have the new RMVB plugin.
OK I will download at home

Hello,
Excellent work you have done, now if this program exceeds the capacity Core Player to play FLV videos, among many other formats ... Congratulations.
I am glad also that much development for Windows Mobile did not die in many cases ... thanks again.
Regards,
let's see how it works for me. i hope it doesn't crash like other tcpmp builds
great work of this build, specially for compability with MVU, now i can watch flv with fp6 codec from MVU, only problem when playing fp6 with res higher than 320x240 the video lag, hope to see fix for this codec

There is lots of skins floatin around for u to choose from. I personally do not use skins for TCPMP. I use it for one purpose, to watch videos. I think the simple look of TCPMP stands out against skined players.

Yes this is a known problem with TCPMP. FLV4 VP6 videos of a high resolution do stutter. I have found that FLV4 and WMV9 are the worst videos for TCPMP. They both have the same stutter problem. I believe it is the lack of hardware acceleration and not the codecs. Coreplayer has the same problem with WMV9 but WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER is hardware accelerated so they play very smooth.
Thanks a lot for this pack, works great for me
btw are there any players that can play FLV files that use the H.263 OR H.264 codec?

I like TMCP , Thanks
Not able to download the file from 4shared . Any mirror?
Thanks.
thanks for this version. The other TCMP version wouldn't even play MP3s for some reason on my omnia II.
However, I tried to play an internet station .pls file and it says "cannot load URL". But if I use COREPLAYER on the same .pls it plays...
also, when I turn off my screen, the music stops playing.

[Q] cannot play videos via allshare or Skifta (Unsupported file format)

Region: AUSTRALIA
Provider: OPTUS
AVer: 2.3.6
BVer: I9100XXK14
Issue: When using allshare or skifta the native player says it cannot play my mkv's avi's that ive tried to play, they use h264 or xvid codecs so i dont see why the stock player cannot play them as i read in other posts that videos of these form can be played on the stock player. I connect to these videos via PS3-Media-Server for windows and sometimes wonder why it can't just stream it to my mobile like how it does for the ps3.
Also with skifta is there a app player that can play mkv's with soft subs? Ive tried mvideo and rock but they either stutter have HUGE colour artefacts or wont load the subtitles.

Are you trying to stream to your phone using the ps3 media server remote device using Allshare? That doesn't work for me, but if you enable media sharing in windows media player and access your files through the windows remote device in allshare that should work fine, (Open media player, switch to library, and enable the options under 'stream').
Alternatively download and install UPnPlay and MX Video Player from the Play store. If all your devices are on the same home network (local) and you have enabled media sharing / shared folders you can simple browse for the file using UPnPlay and play using MX Video Player, which also plays subs! This combination will play most things you throw at it, make sure you render to your device when playing, if you try rendering to a dlna enabled tv or something else etc you may get a 'file format unsupported' error.
Hope this helps. If you need any more help just drop a comment
I tried skifta with mxplayer and after a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy long wait it worked (had to enable subtitles myself but its no big deal). Is it normal to have that wait? is it different with unpnplay?
Thanks for recomendding MX player its sooo much better ill thank you once everything works out!

Give Unpplay a shot, it's free so you've got nothing to loose, and no it's not slow at all. I use Unpplay to access media from my NAS drive. I didn't find Unpplay terribly intuitive to begin with (probably just me) but stick with until you're successfully streaming
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
It works with both i tried =D!
But wezi i think i should recommend you skifta ! I think its much more to offer . But thanks for the MX recommendation i thank you very much.
Good to hear it worked, and i'll check Skifta out also

I use MediaHouse to browse my network for DLNA sources: NAS & WMC 7. It is much better than Sony stock DLNA player--which is a featureless afterthought/sick joke. MediaHouse then calls up MX Player, and it's codecs handle the same video sources that Sony DLNA refuses to play....

This is about right. Third-party DLNA viewers such as MediaHouse support on-the-fly transcoding and best-attempt playback.
The Sony DLNA doesn't do this is for the same reason that the Sony Video Player won't play locally stored WMV's for example, because they cannot be played back by hardware rendering. The Sony DLNA app only supports the same video files as the stock Sony Video Players, those with hardware support.
Third-party apps bypass this restriction and try their best to play it, even if its not supported, so give that a shot.

The problem was that we needed a media app capable of playing photos and music, which MX cannot do..

You can try a video player app like dice player or convert your videos xvid, avi to your tablet s friendly format with Brorsoft Video Converter.
To avoid the incompatible issues, you can convert your kinds of videos to a widely supported format like MPEG-4 first before storing on your NAS for streaming. I've successfully convert a bunch of VOB to NAS before streaming and sharing.

This is a totally pointless post on a thread thats nearly to years old my friend
yes you are trying to help a fellow xda peep
But you should read the whole thread its only two pages long but as you would have seen the player your suggesting as been already offered and rebuked By the op as for the conversion option its a lot of work and time to convert what I can only assume is about a 1 Tb if not more on a nas hence the need to have a nas
Please read all of the tread you are commenting on first
His best option would be ez file explorer to veiw the folders on the nas then selecting the appropriate app with the file being veiwed
As for video players vlc or mx player support a good number of formats
hit thanks if I helped
sent from rooted xts thanks djrbliss and condi
Try with Avia Media Player

[Q] Is it possible to play a DVD off my laptop on my tablet without ripping?

Is it possible to play a DVD off my laptop on my tablet without ripping?
I’ve been trying to stream a DVD from my laptop to my Asus transformer tablet (running ICS 4.0.3), but so far couldn't find a way. I tried VLC for Windows + VLC Stream & Convert for Android combination, but there is no option to directly play a DVD, selecting individual VOB files wont work.
The only way I could manage to get the DVD video to play was to stream disk content though VLC's stream option, but this doesn’t allow any control over playback (Pause, FF, Rev etc..). I also tried setting up a DLNA server with Windows media player, but again there is no option to play a DVD , it can only share video files available on the local hard disk.
Now I'm beginning to think what I'm trying to do is not possible. Does anyone know how to do it ?
Looks like its not possible ??
For now I’m using splashtop HD remote desktop app, frame rate is not always good, but most movies are watchable, guess I'll have to use that till something better comes along.
is that a MPEG-PS VOB File ? then u can play the individual file by MX Player..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mxtech.videoplayer.ad&hl=en
btw u can extract the movies from a dvd using the img file.. sometimes there are 2 movies in 1 vob file
if you still can not play it then send me a sample of the vob

Is there any DLNA player that read also subtitles from media server? I have TP-1042ND and conected HD with movies, my stock S3 player sees nearby device TP link media server and plays movies but without subtitles (they are in correct format as when i download movie to device with them plays ok)... Samsung Link don't see nearby device so can't use it... Only thing i can do i play movie from DLNA explorer via Mx player and then load subtitles form device when i downloaded them... MX player is slow and plays in SW only to see subs on TV... when HW subs are on phone screen and movie is on TV... I try some players from market but none plays subs and movie together.. only movie is shown... Please help if someone know the app that can play it together..
Thank You

Yep, its a good posibility could be the DLNA server software too... because I know that Twonky didn't/wasn't able to serve the SRT to my Samsung TV in the very beginning. After several Twonky version it finally works (but it still won't play imbedded subtitles), and I haven't changed my Samsung TV or it's firmware.
However, BubbleuPNP and BSPlayer has always worked for me, best part is BSPlayer pays embedded as well as the external SRT.
Yes, it have to be problem with router... I installed bubble and bs... it works just like others players without subs even don't search them via online (i was hope it will be able to find them online as it have that option). Looks like media server does not serve the other files other than media files, subs are txt not a media... When you enter the bubble do you see your subs in folders? i can see only music and movies files... I Was try with BSplayer to enter in LAN mode... i run FTP server over the router, i can connect with gosthexplorer but BS asking me for the password and user name i enter correct one (use them in ghostexplorer) but it constantly show incorrect password... Any advice? Maybe in lan mode it can read the subs...
