[PLAY-GSM-CDMA][CM9] Darkforest Kernel ICS [v5][WIP][1.6GHz OC] - Xperia Play Android Development

Team Darkforest: Kernel
Maintained by Atarii and Keiran of Team Darkforest, forked from FreeXperia kernel sources
Download v4: http://icxperia.com/keiran/cm9/DarkForest4.img
Download v5: http://icxperia.com/keiran/Darkforest5.img
Features of v5:
Recovery keys remapped
Two way call recording (FreeXperia)
Features of v4:
Added 1.6GHz Overclock
Features of v3:
Forked newest FXP kernel.
Disconnected ALS in kernel - read below.
Enabled some governors that were not already enabled.
SEMC kernel update
About the ALS being disconnected, here I explain:
In v2 of the kernel, I had produced a script inside the kernel and an app that ran the script, and basically what this did was check if `cat /sys/devices/i2c-0/0-0040/leds/lcd-backlight/als/enable` was equal to 1, if it was, it changed it back to zero. The problem with this is that it used CPU cycles and impacted on battery, as well as caused flickering.
In v3 onwards, I have done this: https://github.com/keiranFTW/semc-k...mmit/6f252f86b862c9483bc900a8c1bef73f88f8192c
Atarii mentioned for me to do it, and so I did, and what it does is tell the kernel that the ambient light sensor is not attached, and therefore it cannot dictate the screen brightness, so you could say it is physically turned off.
Sources are at github: https://github.com/keiranFTW/semc-kernel-msm7x30-ics-1
and FXP source: https://github.com/freexperia/semc-kernel-msm7x30-ics/tree/ics-beta

damn you are quick.
i just wanted to make a thread for my new cm9 kernel

did i miss something?

This is based on the CM9 FXP kernel. Data now works on CM9

is this not insecure kernel? its says adb remount operation not permitted and according to google you need ro.secure to be off or something lol. i have no idea if this is relevant for xperia play though.
EDIT:
doomlord kernel is insecure so i guessing the above is relevant to play aswell.

Here i've tried compile kernel for Neo/V users. Thanks to kormatoes for asking me to make kernel for AOKP. Then later i decided to make for Stock ICS too. Thanks to those who help me test these kernel since i've owned Xperia Ray not Xperia Neo/V
[ XNeo AOKP v1.2.431 ] AOKP BASED ROM NEW
- vids record / playback fixed
[ XNeo ICS v2.1.431 ] ICS 4.0.4 NEW
[ XNeo Kernel V2.0 ] ICS BASED ROM NEW Build from 4.1.H.0.4 kernel source for Play ICS Beta
### LOST & FOUND ###
[ XNeo ICS v1.1 Repack ] ICS based rom
[ XNeo AOKP v1.1 ] AOKP ROM
NOTE: [For stock ICS ONLY] If you come from other kernel, please flash this modules using cwm
Updates
// XNeo ICS v2.0 - 4.1.H.0.4 source, patches: ZRAM, smartassv2
// XNeo ICS v1.1 Repack - re-added Intellidemand. swap/ext4 support. tun.ko module in /res/modules
// AOKP v1.1 - added Intellidemand gov (dont use with IO vr, caused reboot when screen off)
Intellidemand:
Intellidemand aka Intelligent Ondemand from Faux is yet another governor that's based on ondemand. Unlike what some users believe, this governor is not the replacement for OC Daemon (Having different governors for sleep and awake). The original intellidemand behaves differently according to GPU usage. When GPU is really busy (gaming, maps, benchmarking, etc) intellidemand behaves like ondemand. When GPU is 'idling' (or moderately busy), intellidemand limits max frequency to a step depending on frequencies available in your device/kernel for saving battery. This is called browsing mode. We can see some 'traces' of interactive governor here. Frequency scale-up decision is made based on idling time of CPU. Lower idling time (<20%) causes CPU to scale-up from current frequency. Frequency scale-down happens at steps=5% of max frequency. (This parameter is tunable only in conservative, among the popular governors)
To sum up, this is an intelligent ondemand that enters browsing mode to limit max frequency when GPU is idling, and (exits browsing mode) behaves like ondemand when GPU is busy; to deliver performance for gaming and such. Intellidemand does not jump to highest frequency when screen is off.

How to make simple ZRAM init.d script
1. Using Root Explorer, got to /sytem/etc/init.d/
2. press Menu then create new file
3. paste these in it
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
sysctl -w vm.swappiness=40
echo "1" > /sys/block/zram0/reset
echo $((50*1024*1024)) > /sys/block/zram0/disksize
mkswap /dev/block/zram0
swapon /dev/block/zram0
4. close and save it as 60ZRAM
5. set permission to 777 or "rwxrwxrwx" (tick all)
6. take note: 50*1024*1024 = 50MB zram disksize. if you want to set 30MB, change 50 to 30.

asked that question on the topic AOKP Neo / v was wondering if your kernel has support for USB on the go, external memory, such as pen drive. Tested with mouse and pen drive worked but I can not seem to have the appropriate drivers. From what I saw in some threads here at XDA need these drivers.
I did the flash, I'm using the AOKP kormatoes, and so far everything is normal.

KA15 + this kernel (don't know if it's the latest build, got it from sirkay directly):
Slow charging in the end is because of simultaneous video recording and GPS logging (will get even worse now because I added automatic bluetooth enabling ).

I'm using this kernel on I-Scream 10 and it working good so far, the only thing you have to do is flash stock kernel with stock WiFi modules reboot and then flash back to this kernel and woala WiFi is working. That is how I did it working when crossing from NightElf kernel to this one.

[KERNEL][ALL '11 MDPI] MESA v4.8 (STOCK ICS/CM9/CM10) [31 DEC 2013]

First of all,
Code:
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM/kernel
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
Ok then, now that u've read the disclaimer we can continue with me and this kernel.
Frankly i'm no dev, just know a little bit of linux thus i know howto compile kernel, and i like tinkering with kernel to include what i like.
by that i'm learning as i go, so go easy on me please
About the kernel name, MESA stands for Man-Eating Seals of Antiquity, codename for kernel 2.6.32.

Roughly features of this kernel include:
- base on Sony's official 4.1.B.0.587 kernel source, so i build this from ground up. patched to upstream 2.6.32.60. ics kernel should work with stock/custom rom based on stock ics 4.1.B.0.431 or 4.1.B.0.587, and jb kernel should work with source based jb rom eg cm10, aokp and pa. personally i've tested this with expeacer's exmiuiv4, lasan's miui, stock ics, fxp's cm10 and aokp jb.
- updated to upstream linux 2.6.32.61.
- hybrid kernel, support stock/stock based, cm9/cm9 based, cm10/cm10 based rom.
- patched with Con Kolivas's patchset that includes bfs task scheduler v0.404, so this is a bfs kernel. stock kernel and all of custom kernel here so far uses cfs cpu scheduler. read about bfs cpu scheduler here.
- oc upto 1.8ghz and using 100mhz steps. default boot only use 1ghz.
- uv sysfs interface to modify voltage. i also decrease voltage abit. for anyone who wish to use stock voltage, heres stock voltage table
- cpu governors includes default stock ondemand, interactive, powersave, perfomance and userspace, i've added ondemandx, intellidemand, smartassV2, smoothass, interactivex, brazilianwax, scary, lulzactive, lagfree, smartass, minmax and savagedzen. default booting governor is interactive, its been updated/backported from kernel 3.x. read about cpu governors here.
- disk io scheduler includes deadline, sio, cfq, noop, anticipatory, zen, bfq and vr. default booting disk io scheduler is sio. read about io schedulers here.
- dual recovery, cwm and twrp. access cwm by pressing volume down button and twrp by pressing power button. also can swap those keycode by adding "swap.recovery.keycode=true" to build.prop. phone will vibrate slightly before entering both recovery as indicator. also included autoroot which wont give problem with miui rom, init.d startup script and unsecure ramdisk for adb root access. v4.7 got twrp 2.4.3.0 and cwm 6.0.3.9.
- swap and zram support.
- ext2/3/4 support.
- usb otg support.
- ntfs read/write with fuse module built in.
- samba support with cifs module built in.
- wifi modules integrated into kernel, then added into ramdisk. it will be insmod directly from ramdisk and existing wifi modules in rom wont be touched.
for full itsy bitsy changes read the changelog.txt in download folder.
and to comply and abide with gpl, source diff also included in the download folder.

Howto install:
1- be sure u already unlocked bootloader.
2- download correct kernel for your rom and phone and make sure md5 checksum matches. jellybean rom should use the kernel with "jb" in filename. or just use the new hybrid which support cm9/cm9 based, cm10/cm10 based rom and cm10.1/cm10.1 based rom.
3- if kernel downloaded in *.7z format u need to unpack it using winrar or 7zip.
4- flash the kernel via fastboot.

Troubleshoot:
- ini.d script not working? read this
- stuck at booting after flashing kernel? wait a little bit longer. kernel needs to run some script when booting.
- still stuck at booting? wipe cache and dalvik cache via recovery.

2- if u got sudden reboot, after the sudden reboot, paste content of /proc/last_kmesg to pastebin and give me the link.
3- also tell me which phone u use, with which rom and which kernel.
what is that logcat and dmesg thingy u kept talking about? google for it.

So far only Fera's kernel in combination with McSqwizzys98 Rom is ablé to give Wifi and SmartassV2. I was searching for this combination (even made a thread in Q&A for it).

Maybe good to know:
On this Rom (with fera's kernel and also with your kernel) I also haven't got data (need to do the *#*#4636#*#* trick).
Thanks for your efforts, though. If I can test again, I'll sure do it.

On Fera's ICS kernel (on McSqwizzy98 AOKPcb lite 2-ROM) I've got Wifi working out of the box (no wifi module needed)
But I'm glad to test other kernels. So here goes.
[Downloading Amin's kernel...] check
[Installing ftf....] check
[Installing wifi module...] check
[Wipe cache and wipe dalvik...] check
[Rebooting....] check
[Activating wifi...] fail
Sorry Amin. Doesn't work in my situation.
Maybe good to know:
On this Rom (with fera's kernel and also with your kernel) I also haven't got data (need to do the *#*#4636#*#* trick).
Thanks for your efforts, though. If I can test again, I'll sure do it.

[Kernel] [ICS] VDS kernel v2.0

Hello guys. Those of you, who have been monitoring ray's dev section, know, that there is such a kernel for GB, as "pure emerald' or "aire's" kernel. But its problem is that it's for GB So i decided to do this kernel for ICS. I'm from russia and 4pda, and on our forum we don't like many "svistoperdelkas", which means that we don't like to have many useless (and sometimes not stable) features.
So, you can understand now, why there are no many features in my kernel which you can find in sirkay's kernel, for example. The advantage of such a kernel is that there is no any trash in it, only main things.
Features:
Clean ramdisk
Removed Fota
ext2, ext3, ext4, vfat, ntfs support
USB OTG support
Init.d support
Linaro
DooMKernel recovery (it's the best, IMHO)
Added smartass2 governor (a very battery friendly one)
Swap, ZRam
2way call recording (uses CallRecoder by skvalex)
And now smth really new (for my kernel at least). Now YOU choose what OC to use. I've got 3 versions of this kernel.
1) 1.4 OC + uv (very battery friendly)
2) 1.4 OC no uv (for those ones, where uv causes random reboots) (not so battery friendly)
3) 1.6 OC + vdd. (not battery friendly at all, only for performance)
Download - link
One more thing. You can either believe it or not. But still. My HDD is dying. First 4GB of it are already covered with bad blocks. Also, the 10th GB is "bad". These bad blocks are "hardware". My linux is installed somewhere at 40th gb, but i think it won't take very long untill it's dead too. The first version of my kernel was downloaded for 260 times. Not so much as on 4pda (2000+ ), but still quite a lot. If every person who have downloaded it donated 1$ for me - i could buy a new HDD. So, if you are not indifferent to me and my HDD, please, donate to me thanks in advance
Wow!!! Finally a new kernel!
I hope it's battery friendly
Aire kernel was my favourite GB kernel
Best regards
:good:Tnx,this is just what i needed....flashed&testing...
:good:
P.s.: I don't like "svistoperdelkas" too...
flashed, i'm trying it :good:
Finally new dev kernel.. Welcome dude! Can I use this kernel for MIUI?

UV aka undervolt
DooMKernel recovery (it's the best, IMHO)

Thats all A superlight kernel, as you can see Hope, that some of you share our (4pda guys') ideals in kernel features. Good luck!

BTW, if you want to support my kernel (i don't believe in that ), you can donate to me thanks in advance

Calm,my friends,i think that you have two different approach in kernel compiling, vdsirotkin's one is good for battery, while sirkay's one is more"experimental" and good for performance,no-one is better than another:simply they are different..:beer::beer:
Inviato da me!

whats wrong with oc to 1.6?? my ray is stable at 1.6 so thats fine for me, nobody forces u to oc, same for governors and shedulers, not a good thing to point at another devs work and telling thats bad mine better
and arcatarc im not sure that the "simple" kernel is more battery frindle or more stable, will test during the weekand

even if it's stable, not a very great speed advantage does not worth battery drain.

im not mad, just my curiosity to know how do you define "trash". if that so, then me too dont like "svistoperdelkas". i always made 2 version, one for users (with features they've requested) and one for me (with only smartassv2 and intellidemand gov, freq max 806mhz, dont UV, didnt use zram, disabled debugging, disabled unused modules).

- No vdd????
Did you test all before posting?
BTW, fast, smooth with new ksgl, wifi works, data works

it has vdd..
about bootimage it's not a big deal...but I'll fix it...
I flashed my phone over 10 times yesterday to test this kernels and you ask me did I test them?

Just asking if you test these things mate. There is no VDD level in CPU setting in CyanogenMod Setting menu, also adb mask controller told me that vdd file dors not exist.
Finally,a new kernel for SDE thanks a lot Amin...keep it up!! I will test it soon and report if it's necessary!! great job...thanks again buddy!!
Edit: well,tested...scrolling is laggier on home screen...and wifi seems to be a little lazy to connect...for example at phone startup it don't connect automatically...I have to go in settings-wifi and press connect manually! Just a little request buddy..if it's possible...can you add all other cpu governor from achotjan's kernel please?thanks a lot

Well I don't have any issue with wifi and CPU governors from Achotjan's kernel are there. Just, battery drain fast, 50% in 6 hours without using.
