[Q] Facebook flash games laggy and slow! - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i just got my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 and tried a few flash facebook games through the internal web browser as well as with opera and maxthon and always get the same laggy and slow gameplay.
is there something i can do to fix this?
do i need to overclock/update something?
i sure wasnt expecting flash games to behave so badly.
please help

Depends what's your firmware and if you are on stock or kang. That information would help.

indeed sorry, totally skipped my mind.
i just bought it so i'm still with the official samsung stock rom and want to keep it that way, only install samsung updates.
my tablet is:
GT-P7510
android 3.2
kernel 2.6.36.3
and i have adobe flash player 11 installed
ps. cant wait for ICS :s

Ah well this helps, you can always install the Flash Player from the market if you haven't and mix it with Google Chrome on ICS, better yet the ICS (Beta builds) are really stable, their milestone 4 is their latest and most stable ICS firmware, except no camera (Due to the original driver's not released)
-ICS eat's up less RAM compared to HC's insane memory partioning
-ICS doesn't support flash but the Flash Player in the market still works on it
-You can clock to 1.4Ghz to ensure that the tablet run's at optimum performance
These are just a few thing's I thought I'd share that may change you're gaming method, besides, Chrome is probably the best browser on a smart device, in a nutshell

is there an easy noob friendly way to clock to 1.4ghz for the time being until we get the ics update?

nothing will help the flash games be better,im overclocked to 1.4 with flash and there all like that still.but to over clock you will need to root and install a kernal that supports overclocking like pershoots kernal. I wish the flash games would not be so laggy myself.

thanks for all the info..i guess i'm stuck regardless flashing to any rom in the flash games issue
i just hope it can be fixed in the future by official updates.
so far i'm not that much impressed on the 10.1 (maybe after the ics update its gonna look a different tablet) but its probably a good idea to pass this tablet to my wife and get an asus transformer hd for myself when it comes out

flash
ive used many roms and its same on all of them,im not sure but i think its a graphics issue maybe not good enough in tablet for games like that. Im sure ics will make the tablet much better.im happy with mine.being rooted and doing different things makes the tablet better for me.customization always helps.

[Q] Few questions from a noob

Hi guys,
This is basically just a thread about trying to find out what ROM everyone is using and what's most suitable for my new G-Tablet.
I understand the first thing I should do is install ClockworkMod, then install a ROM.
My other question is - is pershoot's kernel a major performance increase?
Also, just to clarify - VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition does not play movies very well, correct?
however, VEGAn-TAB BETA 5.1.1 does as it has supported hardware acceleration?
My main use will be web browsing and possibly movies.
Your feedback would be appreciated
I got my tablet last weekend, i have flashed Vegan Gingerbread Ed. and loaded pershoots OC kernel. I can still play video on YouTube, etc. with rockplayer lite. I would suggest thinking about Ginger ed since they are currently working on the hardware acceleration for Ginger ed, however who knows when it will be released. If you are going to watch movies right away, i would perhaps do 5.1.1.
My suggestion would be flash GB, get that working, see what you thing, and then flash back to 5.1.1 if you want the video. Reason i say this is it sounds like you need to do some extra steps (like partitioning your device) for GB, so if you can get that running, and then flash back to 5.1.1, when hardware acceleration comes out for GB edition you should be able to do a simple flash to get it loaded instead of having to partition etc.

any GB rom won't play HD movies very well, but plays dvd encodes, and even HD that's been divxed down to a smaller resolution fairly well, depending on the encode used.
The pershoot OC kernel makes a big difference in performance. About 40% faster when oc'ed to 1.4 Ghz.
I'd go with the VEGANginger, dump the latest pershoot kernel on it, and see if the software decoding performance is sufficient for you. If not then you can always drop back to a froyo rom.
At least that was my plan, and I never bothered to drop back to a froyo,,,

Complete Working ROM?

I have read a lot of discussions on this site, but have not seen an answer to my question...so, here I go.
I am looking at getting a GTablet...with it on sale now for about $260, the price is really tempting. However, I have not read of a ROM that works COMPLETELY with all of the hardware. Either it "mostly" works, or crashes often, ect. Is there a ROM that works without issue (at least no more issues than the factory ROM)?
Confused?
Here is the lay down
Stock ROM with OC [email protected] .......................working HW acceleration and camera
Enhanced Froyo ROM OC [email protected] HW acceleration and camera
Gingerbread ROM OC [email][email protected] HW acceleration and camera
CM7 ROM OC [email][email protected] have HW acceleration, working camera
Honeycomb ROM OC [email protected] no HW acceleration, no camera
Take your pick, your Gtab should be on BL 1.2 already, do check the tablet status to be sure. Make sure you select ROM build for BL 1.2 if your gtab is BL 1.2 model.
I like VTL Launcher to use with non Honeycomb rom, so check it out. You can get it free in the XDA forum.
Later.

To get things going, I don't really think I will be OC'ing. It looks like the Gingerbread ROM is stable and the latest release with all functionality. Do you agree? Any particular build, website, or videos you would recommend?
Thanks for the advice!

Here is a good website with info about current roms for the gtablet.
http://viewsonic-gtablet-for-dummies.webs.com/rom.htm
My gtablet is on boot loader 1.1 so I can't tell you much about the new 1.2 roms. If for some reason your tablet is on boot loader 1.1 . This is my favorite rom that everything just works .

So, I don't get the feeling that anyone has a complete working ROM for Gingerbread or Honeycomb. Since I went ahead and ordered the gTablet, I will be researching further. Can anyone give me some opinions on the best complete working ROM for Gen 1.2? I will be mainly using the tablet for internet surfing, FB, movies, YouTube, and , of course, the occasional Angry Birds.
Thanks Again,

Go with one of the Honeycomb roms. Just add Opera and Flash and you wont regreat it. Or you can go for the old stable work horse Vegan Tab 5.1.1. It never let me down. Im currently using Honeycomb and now that Ive figured it out Im really liking it. Its got more eye candy then the Froyo rom.
I've tried alot of roms since I got my GTab in October. Currently running Flashback 7.1, a little trick to get into. I suggest trying a few.

I've been running the Beasty 2.2.1 ROM and everything works. It's Froyo but I'm still quite happy with it.
Have it overclocked to 1.5Ghz and under voltaged. Stays cool and battery easily lasts a day or more.

Same for me but I got an intersting anwser by a guy on XDA forum,
here is it .
This is the message:
Bonjour, Mikyreale!
I would recommend using VEGAN tab 7.0. It is the most stable and most complete Gingerbread operating system for the gTablet. If you want to use the latest operating system, but possibly not as stable, then use the Honeycomb-based gTabComb. I use it and have been very impressed with it.
Regarding gTabComb, I am using beta 3.3, and it has been quite stable so far with few reboots and force closes.
Regarding ClockworkMod (also known as CM), make sure you install version .8 and you can get that from here on xda-developers.
You can get either VEGAN Tab or gTabComb here on xda-developers as well.
I have videos on YouTube that show how to install ClockworkMod and VEGAN Tab. Search for user ehunyadi on YouTube.com.
Take care, and good luck!
Hope it will be good for you, My Gtab should arrive in a couple of days.

I'm using 5.1.1 and some times it's flakey (i.e. it's really sluggish if I install a bunch of apps until I reboot, and it needs the .nomedia fix) but overall it works well and I like how it looks/acts with VTL launcher. Gun Bros (Glu) is the only significant app that I can't use.

Brilliant Corners; it's basically Vegan but newer and better, and on the 1.2 bootloader.
Just a couple notes on extra features/items that don't get much mention...
Wifi location: Only works on GB and HC roms
HD Video: Supposedly works on Froyo with full HW Acceleration, but full HW accel doesn't mean much if you can't even open the file. That is to say, so many videos need to be re-encoded to take advantage of the hw acceleration on the stock player, you might be better off just sticking with compressed 720p or 480p (there was a time not so long ago when DVD's were considered the best quality) content, which can play just fine on GB and HC.
Settings: ON many TnT derivatives, the settings app lacks several key controls. Swapping in the stock settings.apk can help to do things like install third party keyboards or access account and sync settings. Details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14566837&postcount=331.
Games: Popcap-Peggle and Plants vs Zombies. I have not found any kernel that plays these games consistently other than one specific one for Froyo:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128866 .
Usability: The handy little cursor location tab in GB and HC is hard to live without once you have used it.
Touch screen: I have found that it is most responsive to touch on honeycomb roms, for whatever reason.. Just anecdotal, nothing i really tested.
A note of personal preference: I have had my gtab for 6 months and still not found a ROM I am totally happy with. I am on a customized version of TnT at this point, and I am about as happy as I can be. I have developed a real affinity for the TnT status bar. I like that it is a little bigger, and easier to press the buttons on. It is easy enough to swap over the standard settings app when you need to use it, as long as you have root. The only thing lacking from my perspective is wifi location and that handy cursor.
Also this is a great thread. Maybe I only think so because I have never found that "perfect" rom. Keep the discussion going and maybe someone will put together a ROM that finally hits the nail on the head...
Personally I would go with vegan ROM the newest version which ever that one maybe, I right now am still on vegan tab Beta 5.1 and I haven't had a single force close or shut down yet.

I've got a g-tab from my friend and he wants me to flash a new ROM on it..
I see it appears that there isn't a "perfect" ROM that fully works. My question is simply which ROM is the most reliable/stable/fully featured?? I need the camera to work for sure.
I don't wanna try multiple different roms and would like someone to share their experience with the different roms and recommend me a ROM.
Thanks.

would like to know this as well. i may be missing a step, but i've downloaded opera and the new version of flash and can't get this to work. (set the agent to desktop btw)
Until then, i'm sticking to froyo (Calk+Clem Combo V5) with VTL Launcher. The VTL Launcher gives me HC-like bells and whistles with the stability of Froyo.
gTabComb - camera app
Has anyone been able to fix the camera issue on this ROM?
I have build number GTabComb_b3.3_bl1.2
Any help is greatly appreciated.

[Q] Is it time to upgrade from froyo?

I bought a gtab for my son back in January and, with the help of this forum, rooted it and installed the vegan-tab 5.1.1. Sin then it has been the perfect little tab for him (and me). Is it worth looking into the HC roms now available. I would have to upgrade the boot loader as well but it looks like there are plenty of helpfull instructions on the forum to help me with that. I guess the question is are the HC roms that much better than the nicely running Vegan-Tab we are using right now?

It's not even close. Once you install HC you'll wonder what took you so long.
Calk Clem V6 Overclocked to 1.5ghz is still the best daily driver imo. It's froyo based and is just too fast and stable for me to move on from.
GtabComb runs on either BL.
I've tried pretty much all of the roms available for the gtab. While I like the look and feel of the HC roms, I tend to go back to Froyo or Gingerbread as they are more stable and run properly. Check into apps that you want to run and whether Flash is important to you.
Flashlight is a new one for me as of tonight and seems fast without issue with any apps yet. Beastrom is one of my favorites.
Sent from my Flashlight V1.1 using xda premium
I like the HW acceleration in 2.2 but people over on Slate droid are making a HW accelerated HC port.
If you want a working camera and good general performance, then Calk Clem V6 Overclocked to 1.5ghz is a good choice, I run VEGanTAB 7.1 BL 1.2 Overclocked to 1.5ghz with working camera, latest ADW EX, Adobe flash and market. Both are super fast and UI similar to Froyo. I personally prefer the old UI over HC.

ICS on this phone is still horrible.

I updated to 404, and kept it for a week. Now I'm back on GB and oh man it's so much better.
Why is ICS so freaking horrible on this phone?
Compared to GB, ICS is buggy, slow, unstable, unresponsive and prone to hang.
I don't know what you use your phone for, but with mine, I used to play games, browse the web, and listen to music, other than normal phone usage for calls and SMS.
The browser on ICS is pathetically slow and unstable compared to the one in Gingerbread. In GB, you could actually run 720p youtube videos in desktop mode page and it would actually work perfectly. If you do it on ICS you risk hanging your phone and having to remove the battery. Either that, or the browser either crashes or becomes extremely unresponsive to the point even haptic feedback on the back and home buttons becomes delayed. On certain complex desktop pages, swiping becomes unresponsive and responds up to a full second late. Try this on the youtube desktop page or any other big page. Also, the new ICS browser tends to close on it's own for no reason, and as far as I know, there is no way to go back to the home page using it. The only way is to open a new tab, go back to the tab page, close the old tab and switch to the new tab. On the old one all you have to do is simply close all tabs and the browser would automagically put you back to the home page.
Games used to run fairly well on GB but in ICS they are so much more laggy. Some games that were perfectly fluid and playable are choppy on ICS, for example, Wind Up Knight, Let's Golf 3 (which is unplayable), Asphalt 6. The Angry Bots tech demo ran well on GB but it lags like there is no tomorrow on ICS. Another game that used to work perfectly in GB is Riptide GP, after I updated to 404, the game tends to hang the phone after a while, requiring a battery removal.
Other than this, the ICS update has several bugs including malfunctioning led notifications, no compass in google maps (this basically renders google maps unusable), and general clunky feel when scrolling through homescreens, when in GB the whole thing was smooth as silk. Even using a live wallpaper couldn't make the phone slow on GB, while on ICS it looks like even moving a bunch of icons is too much for this phone to handle.
Sure, ICS adds some eye candy such as the NXT theme which I really like, an animation for screen rotation, but I'd rather have a functional phone than a pretty but slow, clunky, unstable phone.
Again, I have no idea why you guys love ICS so much, GB is a lot better in every way imaginable, and as an added bonus, you can use all the Xperia S stuff on it without any problem, including the beautiful new music player.
ICS is simply a slow clunky mess which barely works. I'd love to know why you think it's better than GB.
not true .. it is laggy because it runs on 1ghz .. imagine if ur phone had 600mhz .. laggy as hell but weirdly htc desire c ... can run ics
be lucky that sony actually updated ur xperia ray unlike scamsung they didnt update the galaxy s to ics because its specs cant handle it but it has same specs as our ray
hope u understandd
This is the reason Sony wont provide more updates when they see such threads.....
Remember what they did to XPeria Play users...?
Sony released a Beta ICS for Xperia play and all users started complaining games are laggy !!, it sucks!!, ICS is fail!!... the end result was Sony cancelled ICS for Play..
You are wrong ics runs super smooth on galaxy ace 800mhz older gen cpu

You are wrong.
The user has every right in the world to complain if something doesn't work properly. I don't think the users complaining has anything to do with Play not receiving ICS.
ICS on Ray is slow and it is much worse than Gingerbread for whatever reason. Maybe our phone is not powerful enough to run ICS in the first place?
Also, I would have preferred an update to Gingerbread with all the Xperia S stuff and gingerbread 2.3.7 to this ICS which is exactly the same as gingerbread for the most part, only much slower and buggy.
A smartphone should be all about ease of use, if I have to resort to modding and overclocking to get the damn thing running at an acceptable level of performance, there has to be something very wrong with it.

Sony did offer an explanation for this: ICS was made for a dual core phone with 1 GB RAM
although ICS is new and compelling in many ways, we would like all of our users to make an informed decision when selecting what Android™ software to use. We are actually proud to say that our Gingerbread software is very stable and has great performance, so it’s not a bad idea to stay on this release. Ice Cream Sandwich is more intensive, for example in terms of resource usage.
When it comes to ICS, it’s a major upgrade of Android™, and there are a lot of things that have changed compared to the Gingerbread release. Some of these changes affect the performance and stability of the system, for example by using more CPU power and RAM. ICS was developed with Galaxy Nexus in mind, which is based on a TI platform with dual-core processor and 1GB RAM
http://developer.sonymobile.com/wp/...nical-differences-between-gingerbread-and-ics
Phone is phone
Game console is game console
Phone is not a game console, and you would not get same experience....ever.
ICS is overall much better and functional than GB. Who wants to use 3.3" display for gaming has some serious mental problems :banghead:
Try custom ROMs
I have SE Xperia Ray and try almost all options (rooted/unrooted with custom ROMs or not) sincerely Stock firmware a little laggy in browser or then multitasking particularlry at version 4.03 BUT at 4.04 i see it a big difference in smoothness the OS is much stable. The big problem now is 512 RAM, problem until you root your phone and install custom ROM (you need to unlock bootloader without loosing DRM data) delete aplications who work in backround you really didn't need them like update, livemanager I was very happy when i unninstaled Gmaps that all time worked in background even if GPS off, and now I use Igo for GPS Navigation. Now I have KA20.2 ROM and I can you assure the phone are so smooth and stable. My advice: root your phone, unlock bootlader with a safe method ( I used S1) a install a custom ROM, here on XDA you may found so many nice performing ROMs, and of course remove useless aplication who work in backround and eat your precious RAM. And of course before you unlock bootloader and root the phone, install cwm, read the guides, exists a risk, you know so you need to be informed how to unlock bootloader, root your phone, use fastboot and flashboot mode, of course in the case you never rooted a phone.
Best regards.
YMMV
On my device I didn't encounter any bugs, lags or poor performance with the ICS.
It's stable, runs smoothly and has the same battery life I had with BG.
One can't say for a fact the ICS don't run well on this device, since other people have different experience with it. A person my note his personal experience - and it's just fine to do so!

Where i can find i go navigation? it's free?
play games on ICS? ahaha you make me laugh. small screen but still eager to play games? LOL. go get Xperia Play mate, it build for gamers. i feel sorry for you then. GB is history for me. you'll never move forward if you keep looking back. neway, enjoy your phone mate
@MarkMRL: That's been my experience too, though I don't play games.
I haven't tried the latest ICS though, which people report as being much better.
I moved to CM7.2 - it's very fast, with lots of great features the stock ROM doesn't have.
At the end of the day use what you're happy with
ICS is not buggy but it needs time.
Ok so 1.ICS is better looking cause gingerbread is a pain to ur eyes
2. Its better optimized than gb games are slightly better
3. It is not just for non rooted phones. Like it needs lots of optimiztion. Cuz stock one ahs lot of procceses and u have only 50mb ram free at all time so thats why is laggy. But if you supercharge or smurph out you ray-bam its perfeckt
I have 130 apps lots of procceses running at backround 5 HD games i play and i still
have 120 mb free ram so.. you have wrong thoughts about ics on ray...
Hey man I was in the same boat as you, when I first upgraded to ice I asked myself WTF is this **** and I really hated it, it was slow as hell and laggy but you got to know that developers know a lot more than you and that everything happens for a reason. Sorry but you come across asa huge cry baby
A few weeks back I was almost in the same mind set as you are in right now, I thought gingerbread was the best and ics was just crap but boy was I wrong
follow these steps and il bet you'l make another thread about why you love ics this time
1. Backup all your data, contacts. Msgs and pics
2. Do a factory reset/full wipe
3. Use the seus/pc companion and do a "repair"
NOW YOUR PHONE SHOULD BE COMPLETE STOCK MODE
4. Root the phone
5. Go to developer options, uncheck "dont keep apps" and "limit background processes" remember UNCHECK
6. Change window&transistion animations to .5
7. Use se tweaker to get cwm
8. Use hansip87s system ui and framework mod smooth scrolling thing (this makes some neat changes and adds notification and control and status widgets to the notification panel and you dont have to use the stupid status widget and the lame control buttons
9. There are some build prop edits /hacks thread where I saw the code for faster UI and scrolling and smoother transistions
10. If you want to use some of the awesome ROMS here by the awesome devs

Phone is phone
Game console is game console
Phone is not a game console, and you would not get same experience....ever.
ICS is overall much better and functional than GB. Who wants to use 3.3" display for gaming has some serious mental problems :banghead:

This is not a "phone", it's a smartphone. It should be able to run games and internet browser. And 3.3 inches is more than enough for those silly smartphone games. Every game I tried is perfectly playable and looking good too. I'm not a "smartphone gamer" (just the name makes me cringe), but I enjoy wasting some time with those little games every now and then (I also have a PSP, DS and PSVita by the way). It annoys me that I was able to play certain games before but not anymore.
The point is that I was able to do all of that when I bought it, but now I can't do it anymore.

Are you telling me your Ray has fully functional led notification and compass in google maps? Or that you can watch 720p youtube videos in the browser (or equivalent heavy browsing) without the crappy thing slowing down to a crawl or locking up entirely?
And no, I'm not crying I'm just stating facts.
Also, firefrenzy, that's exactly what I did when I updated to 404. I know all there is to know when it comes to installing stuff, I have unlocked bootloader and installed a stock kernel with CWM I found on this board, and also supercharged to 100%. Still horrible. I haven't tried ICS custom roms yet.

i dont know about the compass in the maps because i dont use the google maps ever, but i have no problems with the led notification or lag when playing hd video through browser, i have multiple tabs, of xda developers and another bodybuilding forum tabs and im using whatsapp messenger and normal messenger with my earphones plugged in listening to music altogeather at once on an almost daily basis and im having no problems, sure all that is slurping away my battery but that is understandable, only issue i had was i could not charge the phone when "switched off" the phone used to go into a bootloop, but the awesome people here fixed that too

BRO TAKE OFF ALL THAT STUFF,CLEAR ALL CACHE AND DATA AND START OVER FROM STOCK, ICS IS BETTER THAT WAY
AND WHAT DO YOU MEAN UPGRADED TO 4.0.4, SE'S OFFICIAL IS STILL 4.0.3
ICS was smooth for me & it's smoother now i'm on JJ's Hybrid ROM.
Try a custom rom...
Run on 4.0.4 Original rooted with all bloat remove, including all FB stuff. It runns realy good. Sure get a redraw some times after surfing on some heavy sites or a long driveing session with waze. But in may normal daily use, read e-mail, check calander and make phone calls it runs realy well and lag free.
But the Sony dailer is crap, I use exDailer & Contacts, much better and faster.
This toic should be moved to general. Unless it helps developers in some way which i have a hard time believing.

Asphalt 7 unplayable

Hi, guys!! I have been doing many tests, and I was very, very happy with my 7100 and stock ics rooted rom, everything was fine until I finally got ASPHALT 7 working... but, it's totally unplayable, runs very, very laggy and doesn't respond to accelerometer...I couldn't believe it if I wouldn't have seen it, my powerfull tegra2 dual core tablet, running an unplayable game!! Then I tried latest CM9-20120928-EXPERIMENTAL-P3 because of the oc 1,4ghz possibility, but I get the same results, so... desperately I went back to this one "[ROM][4 Dec][HC32] isi-galaxy 1.2.5v with pershoot's kernel", and what I see... THE GAME RUNS NEAR PERFECT!! I have touchwiz apps, samsung apps, DLNA, accuweather... all the touchwiz's stuff (which I have to confess I missed, so an ICS port from 7500 version like the one I'm talking about would be great).
So, I find my self that, after being so mad about getting ICS on 7100, I have to turn back to 3.2 because it offers better performance at last. Yes, yes, I miss google chrome and some other things, but.. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THIS, PEOPLE???
