[Q] So I can know for sure - Springboard, ICS, and GSM voice? - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

I've really been considering a T-Mobile Springboard lately, but getting it banks on the assumption that flashing ICS on it would unlock GSM voice/text, and let me use the Springboard as a phone by putting my T-Mobile USA SIM in it.
One person in the general discussion topic basically said that it would work, but I just want to make sure before I plop $300 on a device when I could have gotten a different tablet instead (likely the HTC Flyer 3G at ~$450). I'm assuming I'd have to delete the /efs folder to keep T-Mobile from picking up the IMEI and blocking the SIM with the voice plan on it, correct? And would I be expecting slower data speeds after flashing? I'm not concerned about that part, just wondering.
EDIT: And as the title suggests, I'm talking about the T-Mobile Springboard, not the international Huawei Mediapad.

ICS and Phone work for my Springboard
I have a T-Mobile Springboard that I purchased on ebay. I just flashed the ICS in place of stock T-Mobile a couple of days ago. I had a T-mobile SIM for prepaid Mobile broadband, and got an error announcement when trying to use the new phone feature.
I called T-mobile and had my plan changed to a pay by the day plan just to check the phone functionality. It works great! I have only used it as speakerphone, but assume you could pair it with a Bluetooth headset.
Note - the IMEI from the Springboard will not work to set up a voice and data plan. T-Mobile rep said it was invalid for a voice plan and asked for another IMEI off another GSM phone. If you already have a SIM and plan for a smartphone you should be able to plug it in and go I expect.

Sweet, good to know, think I may have just decided on a tablet. And yeah, I'd be swapping the SIM in my current T-Mobile phone in and out for phone/data capability, not a separate plan for it.

Yes it works great. Well worth it wont find a better deal

I have a SIM card on T-Mobile for the Value Talk+Text+2GB. From what I read here, this will this work fine for the tablet with gsm voice?

I have the same plan, and the voice does work. However, I am so far not able to get both voice and data to work on the plan. I really bought the thing to use over wifi but registered a T-mobile account to try out the phone feature and to allow me the ability to request a SIM unlock.
Just realized I had turned network data off and hadn't verified all three services worked together - so far the answer for me is no. I turned wifi off and network data on, and now I currently can get voice and text working but not internet over T-mobile network. Trying to open a webpage currently just sends me to the my.t-mobile login page.
I called T-mobile support and was told that since it is a tablet, they would not support both voice and data for it.
Is anyone else having luck with getting both voice and data over t-mobile network?

Thanks for the heads up, that was one of my main concerns...I hope there's a way to get all three working together...

Yes someone please verify that you can get all three working.
Also, v35lee, make sure you're APN settings are all correct.

Areas like user/pass/server should be blank (ie: nothing at all, anything <not set> should be blank)
The other red highlighted areas that you put down don't really matter. If it still doesn't work after that then I dunno... it has to be something else.
I wish we could get a conclusive yes or no to whether or not this damn tablet works just like a smart phone (just like HTC Flyer 3G) so I can decide which stinking one to get.

so eager to get the asnwer too
Seems there is no absoluet yes or no....consfusing....

I'm guessing, since that's the folder I see mentioned in other phone-tablet topics to keep the carrier from catching on.

Is there no ramification (on the phones software) for deleting that folder? Will the carrier just see it as a generic device?

I don't believe so, but you obviously want to back it up elsewhere anyway just in case, and I believe that's the idea of it (carrier unable to detect IMEI and therefore unable to restrict you in some way based off of it).

I don't have any good news on this. I took another run at T-mobile customer service today and was again told that this device was not permitted to have both voice/text plus internet. I can have voice and text on the 2$/day plan or I can have data and no voice on a tablet mobile broadband plan.
T-mobile said "Tablets are not phones!" I demonstrated while on the phone with the rep my ability to make calls and text with the Mediapad.
I argued every logical angle I could conceive, and the rep agreed with any logic I presented for having the 3 services available all at once for tablets. While we were in complete agreement that it would be 'nice' if it would work, he could not suggest a plan that would allow for 'talk text web' on this device.
The rep did say that T-mobile was 'working on' a new plan to allow for these tablets with phone capabilities.

What you should do is just ask for the smartphone value 500 plan.
500 mins, unlimited text, 2GB of data for $49/month
Once that's on your sim or whatever, try to access everything. Don't ask for a plan that doesn't exist.

Could try, but I expect then I would just be out $50 and still only get phone and text. Two different T-mobile reps have said they have no plan that will allow for talk, text, and web for this device.
My experience is as a new customer as my current phone is on AT&T. Possible someone who is already on a T-mobile smartphone plan can get it to work with their existing SIM.
I am quite happy with this device as wifi only for now. Was mostly just curious if I could get the phone function to work. Working now to get a SIM unlock so I can try the thing with AT&T.

Just got my springboard tonight. First thing I installed the rooted ICS leak. Popped in my TMobile Monthly4g Sim (on $30 5gb Walmart plan) and I have phone and SMS but no data. Apps time out and browser redirect to my.TMobile.com... Really want to get this working... Any ideas guys? I'm willing to test. my next step may be a straighttalk byod Sim... If that doesn't work I'll have to move to AT&T and the galaxy tab plus
Sent from my HUAWEI MediaPad using xda premium

I doubt it would work on a ghetto plan like that anyways (isn't that prepaid also?). Wish someone would try a real plan.

MMS settings for X10i on Tmobile USA?

I somehow figured out the MMS settings for my X10i when I bought it, but now I did the update to the latest firmware and cannot figure out the MMS settings on the $10 data plan on Tmobile USA, can someone check the settings they are using and help me? I'm going nuts over here.
The only thing you would need to change is in the main APN settings, under APN name replace "epc..... " with "internet2.voicestream.com"
There is no need to change anything in the MMS APN.

That's what i tried at first and it didn't work, but I will give it another go, thanks!
Im on AT&T and I had the same problem. Im sure its different between networks (worth a try), But basically I filled in all options in the APN settings. Try surfing the web to find a complete collection of settings.

You can also quite simply call t-mobile customer care and ask them.
They're usually very nice and helpful.
On my X10i its
epc.tmobile.com
and every thing else is left untouched.
But as you've got a $10 data plan, it could be different for you.

Do you receive clear pictures in your text messaging. Like when someone send you a picture in text does it look clear on your x10.
I tried to post a thread asking for help regarding this and no one respond. Dont know why.

[Q] Rogers Data Plan.

I am planning on getting a Motorola Atrix as a secondary phone. I have set up a family plan for my daughter and I plan on putting the Atrix in there.
She uses a flip phone so I didn't put a data plan. If I put the atrix on that plan will rogers automatically give me a data plan?
I have three numbers in my familly plan; one iPhone, one Nokia N97, and an Atrix. All work fine with the familly data plan. For your info, the numbers are getting the data, not the phone. Last year I had a Desire, a Desire Z, an iphone4, a Vibrant, a Captivate, and now the Atrix. All have been in the data plan and Rovers never new what phone I had, but for the iPhone4 because it uses a micro sim.
yes but I heard that if you have a smartphone you need a data plan. I don't want a data plan on the family account. Will rogers force a data plan on it?
rogers requires you to have a data plan only if you are buying a smartphone from them at a subsidized price. if you get an atrix and unlock it you can use any plan you want.
Just don't use any data on it as they will charge you for it and it won't be pretty. Use wifi only and you will be fine on that front
Is there any reason why Rogers Data service wouldn't work on freshly unlocked Atrix?
I have data enabled and all! (as far as I know I went through every data setting and tried multiple permutations, but it always says something "no network access").
The phone works fine for calls though!
Ideas?

Did you get a data plan after all? If not, I'd get rid of that APN ASAP. Their standalone data rates are outrageous.

[Q] Import users on AT&T Go Phone - Lost internet??

Went to london this weekend and Galaxy 2 worked fine with UK sim, then came back and put my at&t gophone dumbphone plan sim card back in - and it worked fine, but on the billing cycle (tuesday maybe?) I lost all internet.
anyone else experiencing this? Or is the game just p for me and ill have to pay for smartphone internet finally?
While I cannot speak for GoPHONE (I am postpaid) I recently was in Panama and used a local SIM while there and upon returning to the states had at&t Internet for a few days and then suddenly nada.
It turns out that my phone reverted to the Cable and Wireless APN settings even though I had re-inserted my at&t Mobility SIM and was using it for a few days.
I chucked it up to a one off occurrence, but it might be worth checking to see if your APN settings are correct.
Dan
well the thing is the internet worked on my arrival in USA for three days, it only stopped at the billing cycle.
I just put the sim in my actual ****ty gophone that i got the sim from, and internet works fine.
Is there a way AT&T can block internet on a specific handset?

[Q] S5. Switched from verizon to tmobile. Questions

Hi;
I just switched to tmobile from verizon.
Using my verizon galaxy S5. Unrooted
1 )I have seen this setting in this forum for APN:
APN Type should be default,mms/supl,dun
My store set mine without the "dun" at the end of the string. Will/what difference would this make?
2) Is there any way to activate the wifi calling feature on my phone or is it a hardware change?
3) I used to use Foxfi for hot spot tethering with no limits. Is there a way to activate it to work on tmobile?
Thank you.
T-Mobile and AT&T utilize the GSM technology while Verizon and Sprint use the CDMA technology. Their respective devices are also different in hardware. So as far as I know you won't be able to use your CDMA phone on a GSM network. Someone correct me if I'm wrong please!

For what its worth, Verizon devices (not all of them, just some. Its hit or miss depending on the device) for some reason, tend to have GSM radios in them in addition to the CDMA ones. I remember though that the Verizon devices wouldn't work on T-Mobile 4G (HSPA+) due to the 1700 MHZ band. But I believe the refarming of the towers made all 4G (HSPA+) go to 1900MHZ, which the Verizon module supports. So that is why its working.
I forget what "dun" means in the APN setting. As you can see, commodor doesn't have it, mine does. Does it make a difference, prolly a very slight, specific scenario difference. Quick search shows that "dun" stands for Dial-Up Networking. I hated Dial-Up so I wouldn't worry that your's doesn't have that specified
To get WiFi calling, you would need to flash a T-Mobile ROM, note, I said ROM, NOT kernel. I believe all the WiFi calling stuff is in the ROM and lib files. So a ROM might work. I don't think flashing the kernel from T-Mobile would harm the device, if they weren't compatible, you would just get a non-booting device. It would stay at the samsung screen. Which all you'd have to do to fix is flash a VZW S5 kernel.
There are many methods to make Tethering work, many require root. I don't think tethering is possible without root. Also, with these methods, it will still use your data, whether its a tiered plan or not, you will still accumulate data usage.
Thank you.
