Figuring out where my phone's first ROM came from - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in The Bahamas, and our carrier (The Bahamas Telecommunications Company) recently went 4G and are selling the Galaxy S II (I9100) from Samsung Latin America.
The firmware that came with it was labled, "UHKI1", but I have no idea if it's from Argentina or Brazil and I'd like to go back to the default country that it came from since Samsung's now releasing ICS for the S II.
Any idea how to tell what was there?

Not familiar wth the UH handle, but if you search intratech's carrier branded firmware thread ( I think its in Original Development) you might find more help there.

While that certainly did help, it's now added a new factor into the mix, haha.
According to that thread, the phone belongs to the Dominican Republic.
So according to the initial firmware thread:
UHKI1
Firmware info
PDA:UHKI1
PHONE: UHKI1
Date: 05/09/2011
Android 2.3.4
ZTO (Brazil) and ARO (Argentina) have it.
According to the second thread:
Dominican Republic (DOR)
UHKI2:
Firmware info: PDA:UHKI2| PHONE: UHKI1| CSCORKI1
This is getting awkward now...

original Firmware site
I am new to this site...
Anybody wants the original firmware for the particular region/country, find the mobile phone model on the box e.g. GT-I9100LKAINU, then go to the page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II_Series
and search for Product Code / HIDSWVER (pda/csc/phone/kernel) List table...
you will find the required/original details and then go to:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
and download the required package. if u r getting trouble with downloading through Megaupload then you can visit :-
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/
and search for firmware you need....
By doing this you can get the original firmware, detected by Kies and you can upgrade it to the latest version also.
I was irritated in finding the original one for myself. I downloaded several firmware . I was not able to detect it in KIES. But finally i went through the steps i explained and it worked for me.

That'd be a nice way of doing it if UHKI1 was on that wiki listing, however it's not. The listing that it actually is on (your second link which was the first place I went) doesn't make it any easier on figuring it out though.

[Q] Kies won't update

My s2 came from Samsung service with this firmware:
I9100XWKI4/I9100OXXKI2/I9100XXKI1/I9100XWKI4(ODK)
and the message is Kies can't update it .
1.With my old Galaxy S I have only 3 references (pda/modem and CSC).With S2 I see 4 ref?
2.Why this kies message?
3.I have Vodafone Portugal. This is the last firmware(branded or not)?
Thanks for the help.
Look into www.sammobile.com to see if you're provider has a newer firmware posted or not, to begin with. If there is one, and kies is still screwing around, consider flashing with ODIN. The guides are all there, on the same website. You would not lose warranty if you've updated to your provider's own ROM (even the newer ones).

I seems to be some discrepancy here
Ideally Your Phone should have been Boxed with a branded firmware if you think it is not an international version. As far as Intratech's thread is concerned there is no Branded firmware for Portugal Vodafone. But in FUS Web version there is (Check attached Pic) ..... say if your phone is branded you need to flash a branded firmware but the firmware you have mentioned is on your phone is a generic one which pertains to entire Europe (the XW in front of the PDA version KI4). What i think is that you have an unlocked international phone. I think before flashing anything you need to verify what kind of phone you have better go to service center or get in touch with one of the devs post in Intratech's thread for branded firmware and he'll be able to get you to identify the type of phone you have.

[Q] Help regarding S2 ROM!!!

So I recently bought Samsung Galaxy S2, coming from iPhone it's quite tricky when it comes to firmwares. My phone is the I9100G white model and I accidentally tried to flash the I9100 ICS firmware update.. But after researching on the net I was able to flash it back to the GingerBread firmware via Odin software. My query is that will I be able to get and install official firmwares from Samsung or not directly through KIES, if not than how can I shift back to the original firmware for my device which would work on KIES update.. Lastly has ICS been released for I9100G model as yet or not??? Your help would be much appreciated..!!
ics has not yet been released for the original firmware 9100g need to know from which country the sgs2
It's a UK Handset!

I9100 SGS2 is international version and doesn`t matter from which country you bought
I9100G isn't distributed by any of the networks in the UK or even sold direct by any major retailer (well, maybe one). You should be able to check your IMEI somewhere like here to see where it's from.
ROM
Can you recommend any other custom ROM for I9100G model.. I have come across many ROMs for the I9100 but not the I9100G one..

If you haven't flashed custom ROMs or updated your firmware yet, your build number in the About Phone screen will (sort of ) tell you. It's a code that can be deciphered.
What is the build number?
type keyboard *2767*4387264636#

XW is a generic Europe code that could be many countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Nordic, Spain, United Kingdom).
LA1 means it was build 1 in January of 2012.
I believe you can further narrow down what country by finding your CSC by typing *#1234# into your dialer.
is india or bangladesh
I think you should be able to flash through Kies when you revert to the stock ROM. Here is a list of official I9100 firmware, I guess you could find yours in there.

Yea exactly, thats what i want to know how can you revert back to the original firmware that would work with KIES..
Sent from my GT-I9100G using XDA
Two options.
1) Original firmware that came with phone; search for said firmware on Samfirmware.com, flash according to any instructions they have for flashing firmware downloaded from their site.
2) Latest stock firmware you'd normally get via Kies; get the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on XDA/Google). This will allow you to download the latest firmware for your phone/carrier/country that you'd normally get via Kies (might be the same firmware which came with the phone, depends on whether carrier has pushed a firmware update since or not). Flash this firmware you download following the instructions in Intratech's firmwares threads on here.

[Q] Need unbranded Australian firmware

Howdy.
Hoping some one can direct me to a working unbranded firmware for SG2.
I have obtained one listed at Sammobile:
I9100XWLP8_I9100XSALP4_XSA
4.0.3 2012 April I9100XSALP4 Australia
But it is not in english (I think it's polish or something) and just crashes the phone so another working one would be more useful I think.
If anyone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.
Also, assuming a working firmware exists, is it likely that the phone will stop crashing on start up or is something else likely to be causing this problem. Thanks.

1. Wrong forum
2. Flash this firmware, it's the newest unbranded one and contains all the languages.
Thanks for that. I can't find a link on the web page to down load the firmware.
You can get I9100XWLP8/I9100XSALP4/I9100XXLPS/I9100XWLP8 which is unbranded AU stock ICS from Checkfus. Search for the PC version on here/Google. Then choose Android/I9100/Australia GT-I9100LKJXSA in the pulldown boxes. On the left hand side it will populate the product code/PDA/CSC/phone fields, then click 'check firmware'. This will give you the the details I mentioned in the first line.
From there, click 'download' & it will download/decrypt an Odin flashable firmware package you can flash following the usual instructions for flashing firmware with Odin (put the package you download in the PDA section of Odin).
Thanks for that,
Does anyone have a straight link to a download please. I'm not in a position to install software just to obtain a download.
Also can anyone advise why the device boots in to a non english language when loading Australian firmwares.
I have tried about 5 different "Unbranded australian firmwares" and they all boot in some language I can't work out. It's eastern european or something.
The phone must be in out of box state when these firmwares are loaded because it doesn't just boot up like when I first got it. There are a series of what appear to be questions I have to answer before the phone will start up. Then it crashes.
Also does anyone know why it would just crash on a new firmware that apparently eveyone else can use without problems. Is there something else I need to install apart from the firmware?
Do I need a kernel or something else with these firmwares?
Any useful help appreciated. Thanks
Does everyone have to read in those characters in the box before they have to post. I find it very difficult to read whats in the boxes. It takes 5 or 6 attempts before this forum accepts my codes.
I found a web site where you can lookup if there are firmwares available.
I'm not allowed to post it
its the home page for that checkfus program
Unfortunately there are none for Australia. Can anyone suggest a working set of droid OS downloads I can use to get this phone working again please?
Full wipe, flash stock ROM, it will be in English.
There are many stock roms for Australia at Sammobile.
You can also use check fus down loader
I am still trying to get a download for unbranded Aust stock ROM GTI9100. Sammobile does not recognise a search for this phone so maybe they no longer support it. I agree trying to get a simple download without having to join another site or get hit with malware is well nigh impossible it seems.
Hi @trebleguy , install this first .

now when the fone restarted hell broke loose
my sim was locked saying i need to enter some code to unlock my fone
felt literally like cryin after doing such a blunder..would hv been better off with the orange splash screen
please help
thanks in advance

Hi there. I just took a look at the firmware you flashed and seen the problem straight away.
I9300XXBLH1 Download (Thanks To SamMobile!)
Base Firmware: I9300XXBLH1 (4.0.4)
Region Europe
Country: Nordic Countries
Carrier: Unbranded
Build Date: 31 July 2012
Modem: XXLH1
CSC: NEEBLH1
Change List: 928452
Notice above that the region says Europe. And for it to work on Indian Networks it needs to be an Indian Unbranded firmware.
So the reason it because of the Region you downloaded was not the one needed.
I would advice either going back to the firmware you had before, or finding an Indian Official Firmware mate.
Hope this has helped

Don't panic I have been there and done that.
You should be able to not enter a code and still use the phone offline. If you can do that you should be able to access the functions and see if the ROM is rooted, if it isn't grab yourself a copy of the toolkit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 and use it to root the ROM. Once you have done that you will be able to access root functionality and allow you to run applications such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1846451&highlight=voodoo
Good luck ROM warrior. hopefully you will unlock your device and join us in the promised land.
Personally I got fed up of that shift a while ago so i started buying unbranded phones.

Hi ..Just to let you know that is not true.... I live in Zimbabwe (Southern Africa) were the firmware is XEF.... I am using BTU british firmware in Africa without any problem and getting british updates. I know a lot of people who use all sorts of different country versions in their country... As long as your rom version matches your csc it will be fine. If it doesnt then one can manually change the csc and get official updates of the new firmware version.
Cheers

[Q] Galaxy Ace GT-S5830i Flashing a stock firmware question/help!

Hello guys. Yes i'm a noob and i have tried desperately to find the info out myself but i'm getting myself SO confused, i hope someone can help me out a bit and clarify a few things for me.
I have a SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i which is a United Kingdom model phone unlocked to all networks but it was getting very worn and tatty so i went out this morning and purchased a brand new SAMSUNG GALAXY ACE GT-S5830i phone (identical model) however this one came supplied as locked to the o2 network and is o2 branded on all the startup/shutdown screens.
I figured i could simply re-flash a stock firmware to it to lose all of the o2 branding and return it to the standard Samsung startup/shutdown screens (and possibly unlock the phone to all networks during the process but i'm not that bothered about doing that as it doesn't really matter to me)
On the handsets I have gone into SETTINGS> ABOUT PHONE> and the details are as follows:
Model Number: GT-S5830i
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: S5830iXXLK1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XXLK3
...and these details are the same for both the old phone and the new o2 branded one.
Now then, here's where i'm at: when i do things i'm not only doing them to get to the 'end goal' but also to learn and educate myself along the way, but so much of the information out there assumes that you already know what they are talking about or is just too confusing as it doesn't explain enough. I have gotten myself very confused lol.
I want to be able to 'de-brand' the new phone so that it is just like the old one, and to do that i'd like to understand what i am doing a bit more, like the baseband version and build number (XXLK1 and XXLK3 are bpth quoted in the 'About Phone' menu) and i don't understand what file i should be downloading as all i can find is labelled as GT-S5830iXXLK3 so would this be the correct firmware for my handsets as i thought they were listed by Baseband (which is XXLK1 not XXLK3 but the bit in the phone's build number says XXLK3 even though the actual phone's Baseband says XXLK1) can you see why i am confused? lol!
I'd like to be as sure as i can be prior to flashing so i don't make any silly mistakes.
I have:
KIES software,
USB Drivers (i think)
ODIN v3.07 software,
Standard Samsung supplied USB cable,
Windows 7 32bit.
Can anyone help me to understand why the firmware sets are in several split files and help confirm which firmware i do actually need for the baseband type of my two handsets.
I'm also intending to make a backup of each phone prior to flashing so i hopefully do not brick any devices. Maybe i could even read the firmware of one phone and flash to the other? Perhaps i'll just stick to finding a suitable stock firmware and keep it simple
Any help, information, education is all appreciated, and i hope as a noob to the forum i haven't breached any set rules with this post (i don't think i have but you never know!)
Kindest regards,
Drew
United Kingdom.

So clearly i can see the difference here between the new phone with it's o2 network branded firmware, and assume that the only thing i need to change over on the new phone is the CSC part, which ODIN looks like it can do by simply adding a new CSC file in.
Anyway, i went to the SamMobile Firmware site and have downloaded:
GT-S5830i - United Kingdom - BTU
PDA: S5830IXXLK3
CSC: S5830IBTULK1
Version: 2.3.6
Date: 2012-11-23
...which gives me a zip file named: S5830IXXLK3_S5830IBTULK1_BTU.zip
Here's where i just got more confused lol... the thread you pointed me to gets a bit confusing as lots of people are posting allsorts on it, but am i right in thinking once i have that file i just downloaded i go into ODIN v3.07 and just add that file into the PDA section and then untick all the boxes? This seems a bit different to some of the other Odin instructions i have read where they say tick certain boexes and do this, do that etc...
This way seems to be involving reflashing the PDA, and PHONE sections maybe? Am i not just wanting to flash CSC parts? I am SO confused now.
Can anyone help clarify a little more? I can't quite see how you make a firmware backup using ODIN before proceeding to actual flashing. I'd like to make a backup first before i do anything

if you want only the UK one, search on sammobile.com, u might find it!
why do you want stock rom?
you could install firmwares of other countries but u "might" face network problems!
backup your imei via galaxy toolbox app if you do so!!
u could flash a custom rom!!
