Good external battery charger - HTC EVO 3D

Hello. I am wondering if anyone has had any experience with external battery chargers for the EVO 3D batteries? I am using the EVO battery in my Sensation so I figured I would ask here. Just so im clear I am looking for something like this... http://www.amazon.com/External-Batt...BVFO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331668412&sr=8-1 not an external battery I can plug into my phones charge port. If anyone here has any suggestions or input I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I have one I got with my Anker battery (looks the same but with white plastic instead of black) and it works great. It's adjustable so you can charge different batteries.

How do you adjust it? Is there a dial or a switch of some sort?

The pins slide sideways to match the battery contacts, and the bottom is spring loaded to hold the battery against the pins. It's acually pretty cool.
EDIT: After looking at link again that charger is specific to a certain battery. sorry.

Ohhh!!! I thought you mean for different capacity batteries not physical sizes. Thanks for the input. I searched around a bit and found a charger for about 10 bucks but a charger/battery combo for 20. Think ill go with the battery/charger combo. Having a third battery could never hurt right?
Just so im sure this is the charger correct?

I would rather go with the anker branded one. Its got decent reviews on amazon and I know people have good luck with anker products. That one I linked above is the one you have right?

That is the charger. These batteries have about 10% to 15% more juice than the OEM Evo 3D battery. Been using them in our 2 Evo 3D's since August with no issues. You should get them pretty quick, they are in Santa Clara.

Do not buy that. I have one. It's utter crap. You have to keep an eye on the battery to ensure it's still charging, and if not.. move the battery around until the charging light stays on. Several others have said the same. (This is tested with multiple batteries.)

Anyone seen a Desktop Cradle for the CDMA variant?

Hi Guys,
The Verizon CDMA Touch Pro2 presumably requires an adjustment to the standard design for Desktop Cradle becaue of the USB port being offset from the middle to make way for the 3.5mm phono jack. has anyone found a desktop cradle that will fit yet? I assume that the Sprint version also has the same requirement.
I'm looking for the exact same thing for my Verizon TP 2, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tatiania
I definitely would like to have one as well for my desk. Especially if it also has a battery charging slot or two.

Unhelpful...prolly the reason why the poster came here in the first place.
I just ordered one from the Boxwave website. It is for the Verizon CDMA version. It also has a slot to charge an extra battery at the same time which is what I really need so I don't tie my phone up for 6 hours to charge 2 batteries.

Good deal, let us know how well it fits. Interested in seeing if the offset USB will be a problem. What kind of secondary battery did you go with? Seido is or has released an extended battery that fits under the stock cover. An additional 250mh.

I got the stock battery from verizon. Battery life is pretty good with the stock battery. I like to try and time my usage so when I charge it at night the battery is low. Some say that's better for the life of the battery.

Mike, I'm finding my battery hangs in there pretty well also. Only 1/3 use over a nine hour day where my tytyn would be 2/3 as I end my work day!
Yes, but seem out of stock at the moment

Any word on the cradle from Boxwave for the Verizon TP2? I'm wondering about the fit with the offset usb connector.
What would be really cool is a cradle with the offset usb connector and a 3.5mm plug so the cradle would have an audio out. That way you can still use your headphones with the TP2 in the cradle.

That used to be true until Lithium ion came out. Shallow discharges are actually preferable now. This site explains it well: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone.htm
Having said that, battery life is exceptional on mine. Don't see any good reason to bulk it up more with a larger one either.

Got mine today. They must have sent the wrong one because it doesnt fit. My order does say that I ordered the Verizon version. The connecter is not offset as it should be. I emailed Boxwave today asking them to send a new one along with a paid shipping label to send back the wrong one. Hopefully they will do that so I can at least use the spare battery charger portion. Also I don't want to have to pay shipping fees to send back the one that is wrong.
Mike
I was afraid it wouldn't fit.. the pics on boxwave didn't show an offset connector and reading the details.. just said for the Verizon TP2 with no mention of an offset connector.
I've been looking everywhere and when I see one labled "for the Verizon TP2" the pics never show an offset connector. I think a cradle for the VZW TP2 is gonna be hard to find for awhile yet.
Tatiania
WTF?!? Did this post die a premature death or what? Nobody's had any luck finding a cradle for the CDMA version?
Tati
I don't get it. Who needs a cradle when the device has a built in tilt screen and sits up quite well on it's own with the screen showing off it's landscape mode while being plugged in from the side. I'm all for cradles as I owned one for my Touch Pro, but this device really doesn't need one....

[Q]what are some good external battery packs.

As we all know the battery life isn't the greatest for this phone so I was wondering if anyone could give me some suggestions on good external battery packs.

I have two that I own. For a single charge (or a couple from ~40%-~90%), I use PowerGen 2900mAh UltraSlim Power Bank Charger. It's small enough that if you wanted to you could Velcro it to the back of your Razr and has a built in Micro USB which is handy.
For longer stints away from power (travel, camping, etc.) I have the New Trent iCruiser IMP1000 which gives me 6+ charges and is still fairly compact at 4 x 3.75 x 1.125 in.
Thank you.

I should add that I have found using Juice Defender Ultimate, I rarely have any power issues. With normal use (30 min stream audio, some camera use and pretty frequent use of text/email/checking in on forums) I can easily go all day on a charge. I'm at 12 hrs and 51% right now after a typical day.
So if you haven't looked at JD, I'd recommend it. They have a free version and two paid. You can compare their attributes here. I went with the Ultimate and figured I'd grow into it, which has happened. The more familiar I got with it the more I find myself taking advantage of it's flexibility and options. Definitely a great app!
Here's my review of the New Trent IMP99D. It has a slightly smaller capacity than the New Trent that Sally talked about, but mine can charge two devices simultaneous (provided that the second device is a tablet).

Really? It lasts longer than my Bionic which was longer than my Charge which was longer than my Dinc.
I think that for the size of the phone, the battery life is FANTASTIC! However, if you invest in the New Trent like we have, you'll be happy.

My battery last at most 12 hours under moderate usage.. Is that normal? I really want to get an external battery charger that is below 30$

One more vote for the New Trent ^^
check at your Verizon stores for the Motorola external battery pack. The new one has a grey USB cord and sells for $40, but some stores still have the old ones with the blue cord on clearance for half the price (I ended up paying $16.50 total with my company 20% discount). They're the same exact thing as the new one but just with a blue cord. I've been happy with mine, even lent it to a few iphone guys at work to give them a charge.
Also, check stores like Office Depot, etc. in their accessories section. Yesturday I just happened to run across a "iGo" backup charger/portable battery pack (1800 mAh) for $12 on clearance regularly $40.
I tried posting links but I guess noobs on here can't post links.
Anker 5600 mAh slim small, variety of adapters only $39.99 on Amazon.....

Yes, it can be charged via USB.
Fyi, besides the micro USB output charging port with built in cable, there's a micro USB input charging port and a USB female output charging port for charging any device via USB. It also has a LED flashlight.

It really doesn't matter which port, I don't believe the DNA uses more than an amp to charge, but you can't damage it by using the 2A port.
This is correct! The phone decides how much charge to pull preventing incorrect chargers from damaging

use the 1 amp. When using car chargers that have 1 and 2 amp choices, my phones have always charged @ 500mah on the 2 amp side but 1 amp on the 1 amp side. I think its to protect the phone. There are battery apps that will tell you how much charge the phone is getting.
http://www.amazon.com/5600mAh-Exter...d=1353451168&sr=8-2&keywords=external+battery
I use the 5600mA version (though only has a charge rate of 500mAh, but the biggest one can even charge a laptop and it goes for less than $45, the smallest one is about the size of two fingers put together and the largest one about the size of a 2nd phone (though probably a bit thicker) and has a 3Ah max charging speed
edit: i was looking at the 10000 mA version and it seems that the astro3E doesn't have the laptop charging, but i found the regular one (astro3) that does have the output for laptops, but is also selling for $60.
What about MintyBoost? I'm planning to make a few. The main feature is that it works with standard AA batteries (or AAA or whatever gives it from 1.5 to 4.5 volts or so, rechargeable or not it's not picky about source) and you can hot-swap them in the field with fresh or even cannibalized ones (you can easily "increase" the amount of power you carry with you without buying another expensive charger by just having a stash of cheap rechargeable AA).
Anyone tried? Any bad things about it?
I just got the EasyAcc 12000mAh one from Amazon for $40 and I highly recommend it. 12,000 mAh so roughly 5 full charges for the DNA. I'd post a link but I'm new.
I've got the Motorola P4000 from VZW. It's nearly perfect. The form factor is exactly what I want...very very thin. It also has a built in MicroUSB cable, which tucks nicely into the lip around the unit. Both of these are features I wanted. It also accepts a USB cable to use a separate cable if you prefer, but the integrated cable is huge to me. It's recognized as a 1A AC charger and charges fast.
There's just one fairly big problem though. If I'm in certain areas, presumably where signal is a bit iffy, it'll kill my signal when I plug it in with the integrated cable. Interestingly it seems not to do that if I use a separate cable -- even if the phone and the charger are in the exact same spot as when I used the integrated cable. So it seems like there may be some kind of interference that isn't being shielded with the built in cable. It's a big issue, but I haven't yet found another device with the form factor, integrated cable, and 1A charging. And in most places, it doesn't happen. I just have to keep an eye on it if I'm using it and expecting a call.

I believe the OP is referring to something portable. A "power bank" being a battery...
I don't think it's exactly what you mean, as from your post I picture (in my feeble mind..) a battery pack with a built-in QI charger coil. But, just to experiment and test something, I plugged my Nexus 4 wireless charger cable into my portable battery pack and it works just fine. The Nexus 4 charger may not be ideal for a car, since it doesn't lay flat, but I think the flat charger they sell at Verizon (an LG?) has a micro USB connector as well. If so, it may very well work with any of the battery packs which have a USB charging output.
Keep us posted on what you find.

Ew, I can't believe you guys are actually telling people to break their phones. I'm sorry your covers snapped off, clearly you're all very bitter about it. But let us, whose phones haven't broken and still look sexy, try and enjoy that fact.
I think the OP is looking for something like the mophie with built in Qi charging. I don't think anything exists that does that. I supposed you could hack something together so that a Qi pad connects to the power pack's USB port. It wouldn't be pretty but it'd work. The efficiency of the process though would be pretty painful (charging the pack = loss, wireless charging = loss, heat = loss).

Type C Right Angle Charging Cable

Hello All,
Wondering if anyone knows of a good Right Angle Type C cable. Preferably the Type C is the right angle and the normal USB can be straight and 6FT in length.
Looks like the PZOZ has both Wired and Magnetic available in 90° cables. I have never used them, no endorsement given.
If you want something that can be gotten from Amazon, I have used these and have no complaints

Okay, I'm a doofus, my last OnePlus was the One, and I wasn't quite sure how to differentiate the dash charge.
To clarify, no, the cable does not actually support dash charge in my test, I just tried it with the original cable, and it seems like my power extension does not support it either, the Qualcomm QC and stuff, idk.
