Interesting tidbit - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

So, trying to upload a picture to the forums via the mobile app. When the phone has no SD card or youre set to store pics on the phone it saves as PNG or something like that which wouldn't allow for upload. I had to change in esFile to JPEG. But, now that I have a SD card and am saving to it, ALL my pics have converted and continue to be saved as JPEG. Now uploads are no big deal.

Interesting. Kind of ironic since PNG files will be bigger than JPG.
While it may be useless for upload to XDA, PNG is a better format than JPG. Both use compression but PNG is lossless, JPG is lossy even on its lowest compression setting.

That is what i posted as a problem as well. But you fpund a solution. So wherr do i force the pics to the sd card. Problem here is i have always had an sd card installed.

In the camera settings i believe. Funny thing is though is that the pics i have on the internal memory also are JPEG now. That i dont know how it happened. But regardless it makes posting here that much easier and that's all that matters.... now if i coukd just figure out why those pics have to get "resized " when i send them as MMS....

tried what you did and still cant post a screen shot...its kind of annoying really. I actually was a able to before but all of a sudden i get the file extension error now!?

If using Tapatalk, just click "Tapatalk hosted". The pic will look much better anyway. Haven't used XDA app in a while, but I assume its the same, no?

After latest update photos deleted.

After the latest update on my phone (multi-touch) I am missing photos from my SDcard. Anybody know why?
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Afaik the update should not have messed with SD card files unless there were some stored on the phone itself maybe?

Same like me, after update 2.1 update-1, I lost my few picture on sd card

Are you sure that they're not just in another folder and you've "misplaced" the folder? the fw update won't touch your SD card.
I had several pics vanish after I initially updated to 2.1. I never really thought much about it at the time, and it's never happened since.

100% sure. every folder had pictures deleted from it, some more than others. And stupid me I didn't back them up because I thought no way the SDcard will get touched. That'll learn me. :-(

My pictures are all still under /sdcard/DCIM/100ANDRO
I actually thought that I had deleted it myself... but you are right... they have disappeared..
I was going to open a thread about this same curious issue. Yeah, it happened to me after updating to .435 by flashing. I lost some pics from DCIM/100ANDRO and /Picture Folders, both of course in the SD card.
Yup, happened to me too. Not very impressed.

Same here and there are pictures I can never get back.

It has happened to me too, but I suspected JustPictures and not a FW update - because it used to happen to me at random.
Hasn't happened now for a while tho.
Hmm, I hadn't lost any pictures. But I certainly gained pictures after the update. It;s rather annoying too. It's picking up any picture type file on my card, including anything in game, apps folders etc. It never did this before.
Ya guyz. I too lost around 150 photos from camera pics folder nd other folders in my sd card..
seem to have found out that the problem in face recognition service
remove it and format SD card for protection against loss of pictures
Ditto. Most recovered with R-Studio.

posting screenshots using xda app

hi, can anyone tell me how to post screenshots onto a thread using the xda app on a samsung galaxy s2? i get an error saying jpeg in incorrect format or something like that. ive tried searching but couldnt find anything. help is much appreciated.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
Make sure it's in fact a jpg. No png, etc.. Only jpg.
Sometimes the app can be screwy, especially the premium version. I never had issues posting with the free one though.
If you still can't get it, try an external source like photobucket, or something similar..

Screenshot from Home+Power will result in a PNG file. You will need some kind of utility to convert from PNG to JPG to post.
thanks guys. do you know of any converter from the android market? or will i be best just posting screenshots from my laptop?

managed to do it, for some reason when im going to upload and i choose smaller size instead of normal size it seems to work, even with png files. thankyou for your help anyways. much appreciated

Gallery problem in CM10

Hey guys, I'm having issues with the gallery in epinter's CM10 rom. I've done some searching and it seems like other people's is working but everytime i open it up it shows no pictures. I've cleared its settings and cache but it still shows nothing. The only reason this bothers me is because it appears that Google+ won't instant upload pictures unless they show up in there. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm using the 8-11 release but it gave me the same issues in the release before that. Also, I'm using internal storage with no sd card if that matters.

bump
Just download quickpic.
I've been using quickpic for several months now, but Google+ uses the gallery app (from what i can tell) to share pictures and detect new pictures for instant upload.

I'm having same issue. Also no music. Tried moving files to external and back, format both cards. Nothing I've tried has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
MB860 Peace
I have this occasionally, but don't use G+ so it doesn't really bother me as quickpic always works. But to help with the question, I thought I read that when the Media Service is running, things like the Gallery, Maps, and a few other google apps (that use the service) might act like they're hanging, but it's because one of them is using the service. You could try force closing it, or let it finish on its own. Also, try clearing the cache on the media service/gallery/camera/maps. On occasion when the camera stops working on me if I kill the service it sometimes then starts working. This might not be the best option, but something to try.
im having the same problem... apollo dont recognize any music someone can help?
Well my camera has always been laggy on all 4.0+ roms even though some people say it works for them. Anyways, I tried clearing the data and reseting maps/gallery/camera but it still doesn't work. I'm wondering if the media service is actually just borked and I've been misinterpreting what other people have said.

Hmm.. gallery and camera worked for me..

Look for and delete a file named .nomedia from the base of which ever card you have these images or music on. I heard that this was something a ROM Manager update did.

I had the same issues with my pics and music. Looks like you've chosen reboot option from power off menu. For some reason after reboot pics and audio can't be recognized. Try to power off your atrix and trurn it on after few sec, this worked for me, hope will help you too.
Didn't work. Thanks anyway
MB860 Peace
Well I kinda figured out what's going on with the Gallery. It appears that a media scan won't show media already existing on the device. However, if you take a picture it will show the new pic in the gallery correctly. I've also verified that I have no .nomedia files.
I'm guessing that when a photo is taken it explicitly adds an entry to the media table, but there is a problem when a full scan is triggered which makes the gallery blank.

[Q] trying to retrieve a deleted pic

Is this possible?
I've deleted a photo by accident, and i need it back, it's still being used as a contact picture, so it's in the phone somewhere, , any ideas if I can get it back?
I solved this problem by taking screenshot of the contact and cropping image.
If you are rooted try undelete on the market

I've got this and the thumbnails are not the ones i want, and the ones without thumbnails are in the hundreds.
I don't have a PC, as running a mac, and cropping the pic makes me loses the bottom half of the pic

[Q] Strange issue with images.

Not sure if anyone would know how, but here we go. I found an old Micro SD Card, and thought it'd be cool to load some old pictures onto my DNA. When I go into my gallery, I see the entire image as a thumbnail. However, when I click the image, half of it is covered with a weird grey box. Anyway to restore the image?

I would suggest using a microSD to USB adapter (or if you have a card reader microSD to SD Adapter) pull the pictures via a computer. If you see the same issue, the actual photos are corrupt. However, if they are clear, you might want to just transfer via the computer, drop box or google drive.

Thanks man I will try that when I get home. It's just weird because the thumbnail is perfect but when I click on it half of it is gray. Is their anyway to fix the image if transferring it via computer doesn't work?

More than likely the images are fine, the file architecture has changed a few times so the card may not be in a proper format for your current android OS to read it correctly. In the case that the SD card/images are in fact corrupt, there isn't really a way to correct them. Find out via your computer first, there MIGHT be some tools that could help but it's a slim chance.
