I'd like to know this too but am running miniCM7

Try GO SMS Pro (Advanced settings)
An easy way to bypass this inconvenience is to use GO SMS Pro as your default SMS app. In Settings->Advanced->Notification Settings->Default Notification Settings->Select ringtone: you can select another sound for SMS notification and keep your default only for email notifications.

Set up personal sms tone

Hi Guys,
I have been using Ringdroid for a while now...this app is real good. I have added my personal ringtones to my contacts and notifications.
Everything is working except sms tone. Everytime i get a sms same system alert plays. Have i done something wrong? What setting do you have to change to put your own sms tone??
Thanks for help
Go to messages - menu - settings - change it there, the sms tone is different to the notification tone.
Thanks alot...It is not long time since i had my first android phone...so still trying to catch up!!

can I set a custom ringtone for text messages

ok my first Atrix I could do it. I can not find where to do it. It is only showing my the regular tones. What am I missing? Where can I put a custom ringtone for text message. I am using the standard text with the phone.
Thanks

Here's how I do it:
Install GO SMS
Set the default notification sound in Settings (Android NOT GO SMS) which will be your email notification sound now.
Turn off notifications in the stock Text Message app
In GO SMS set the notification sound to whatever you like.
This way you have one sound for email and another for text messages.

[Q] How to disable stock SMS app notifications?

Hi,
I have Go SMS Pro installed and disabled sound notifications in the stock Messaging app, however... When I get new messages and read them in Go SMS, I get a notification icon in the stock App (number of new unread messages) as well as in the social Hub, to which the stock messaging app belongs as well.
Any ideas how to disable it?
Use titanium back up and freeze the " badgetProvider". But it will give u forceclose notification everytime u get a message.
So another words, there is no menu option for doing this

Hi I also use Go SMS pro, and was hoping bypass the use of the stock messaging app.
Have you had any joy with this? Also is it possible to change the default homescreen icon for messages to open GO SMS Pro instead of the stock?
TIA
I use Go SMS Pro, too. But I don't have any problem having a notification coming from the stock messaging. What I did is I unchecked all the boxes from the menu of the stock. That's what I did from my old x10i, too. Works well for me.

As above, this sorted out the issue for me.
In the settings for the stock messing client uncheck the notifications box and that should get rid of it

Go to the App Drawer, press Menu button, tap Edit, you can then drag and drop GO SMS icon over the stock one.
I like GO SMS Pro i always used this with my HD2 but the stock SMS on the GS2 is a massive improvment on previous android efforts and i think ill keep this.
Just uncheck the notification setting in the stock sms menu?

[Q] sms vibration doesn't work

Hi. I'm using MiniCM7-2.1.7 ROM over nAa kernel v9 (x10 mini pro)
Call vibration works fine, but sms vibration doesn't work. My vibration option is set to 'always'.
Any idea?
Thanks!
Could be your messaging app. I'm on MiniCM7Pro and the messaging app that comes with it has vibrate turned off by default.
u can use go sms pro which will automatically start vibration on ur mobile
if not go to the cm settings and sound setting and u can find notification settings where u can set vibration to ur notification which means messages
Thank you guys for your answers. I found an option (not cm settings) where the notifications vibration was off. Just opened stock messaging app and pressed menu button for settings. (((SOLVED)))
Now I'd like to know your opinion about GO SMS. Some months ago y tested it...worked fine for a few days, and then it blocked my incoming sms . It said that my sms memory was full, or something like that. I erased messages, and could not fix it.
Now I'm testing it again. I love the custom led color notification, based on recipient, and other options.
Did you guys have any issue with GO SMS? Do you recommend this app?
Thanks a lot!
I had a feeling it was the messaging app that was at fault..
I don't what's causing the problem with GO SMS, but it may be worth trying Handcent SMS instead. The two apps are very similar (to the point where you start to wonder if it's deliberate) and you still have all the options for customising your notifications.
Handcent doesn't have the social network bits that GO SMS has, but I can attest to its stability as I've been using it for the best part of a year without any problems at all.
Thanks Tickefish for your help.

[Q] No notification sound in GoSms Pro / Handcent apps (KitKat 4.4)

Hello!
Does anyone familiar with a "no notification sound" problem when notification sound is set inside the app (Notification Settings) and the device is not muted, not in blocked mode, sound level is not zero, "show notifications" is checked for the app, and yet NO SOUND is heard when receiving messages, even in the notification settings test in the app ?
The above is true to both Go Sms Pro and Handcent apps, same after uninstalling and reinstalling.
Did someone encounter this problem?
Device Info:
Galaxy S2 GT-I9100
CM11 ROM (KitKat 4.4.4)
Thanks.
