im on axiom 4.0.3 ICS rom right now, love it. only thing i miss from my nexus is the black sms apk, can i use any old apk from the nexus or does someone need to make a new one for the razr?

Have you searched around for any black oriented themes for go sms pro? That may help you with what your looking for.
Use Hancent, best messaging app I've ever used. The theme is so customizable, that you'll probably be able to duplicate your Nexus' style.

Problem with Handcent, for me, is it's kinda bloated and slow and ugly to be honest. They really need to streamline it and make it line up with the simple look of ICS.
I would definitely give go sms a shot because once you set it up the way you want it as far as colors and themes it's simply an incredible third party text messaging application

I'm not having any luck with the hacked ones for the evo. Fc city. I liked the black kb with the blue highlight when you touched the keys.
This happened with my old evo too. The stock is kinda blinding at night in a dark environment. How about white letters, black background.

Inverted how? If you are talking colors just get Handcent and mess with the settings (Android based, Dark themed)
I know about handcent. Only reason I would want stock is because its a much smaller app than handcent or chomp. Thank you for the suggestion though. Inverted meaning white text and black background. There are alternatives and modded stock and aosp out there but you need root for most of all the cool stuff.

Much smaller meaning the size of the apps? Like how many MB they are? I think with the shift especially, the size of the texting app (going from stock to handcent or chomp) wont matter. But to each their own...and I'm not completely sure but with all of the moving apps to sd cards these days I would say size is one of the only things that wouldn't be an issue.
Anyways, good luck, cant wait for the root so we can get all that cool stuff!

It appears that the stock SMS app doesn't have any settings related to conversation style. You could always try a different app, like GoSMS, which is almost 100% customizable.
I suggest you go into the fascinate themes and apparently thread, download the touchwiz 4 theme, then take the mms.apk from the theme and push it to your phone with root explorer, then you should have conversation style texts. Hope this works!

Hi, does anyone know if there is a theme for handcent that looks like the default messaging app on the EVO3D? I love the look of the lifted paper edges on the default messaging app, however love the features of handcent.

not a perfect solution but if you are looking for options that give you more than the few options handcent gives you when it comes to sms bubbles... check out go sms pro and chompsms
both have several more options and most of any in some aspects more features. they both allow you to make the app look more polished and hi-res if you ask me

I really like HTC's widget for messages. A friend recommended Go SMS Pro and it is a much better sms client. The widget they have is not as good though.
I just made the jump from CM7 to ICS Passion and am loving it... with the exception of the SMS app. I feel that there's a ton of wasted space and horrible color scheme (I like simple and effective... Nothing bloated and fluffly... If I wanted that, I'd own an iPhone).
It appears there are no options to change the skin.
Are there alternative themes/skins available or can I flash over another messaging APK (e.g. the old CM7 messaging APK)? Did my best to search for a solution but couldn't find an answer....

you could always try using the inverted mms apk found in the vibrant app section. its simple blue and black. looks good =)
It does look good, but I'm hoping I can find one in which 1/3 of the screen isn't taken up by cartoon heads.
It does look like any ICS-compatible apk will work though... Will post something here if I find something - hopefully help someone else out in the process.

I use that instead. Sind can be changed and it's a pretty smooth app

Is there a current custom HTC stock SMS app? I actually dont mind the stock sms but I would really like to know a way to change the color scheme of the messaging bubbles, fonts, and/or backgrounds.
I've been running some of the 3rd party SMS apps (Go SMS Pro, Handcent, and etc.) I was even able to fix the profile picture sync issue with them, but they seem to run a little glitchy sometimes. Where as the stock sms performs great other then it being so plain.

I agree that the 3rd party SMS apps aren't running smoothly at this time. I'm running the stock SMS but have SMS Popup installed which doesn't run smoothly either. I'm looking for alternatives to use, cause I like the Individual Notification option in the 3rd party apps. I've used Handcent and GOSMS, both ran decent but they both had there issues with working inconsistently.
If you go into settings>personalize>skin, you can change the skin, some of the skins have a blue sms theme some have a green sms. I know its not really what you are looking for but it is better than nothing.

Until such time we can compile the apk's successfully it will be tough to make it to your liking. I do themes, and we can't yet get ICS apk's to compile after they've been edited. I'm sure there are devs working on this issue, but as of now there unthemeable.
A black background would be nice.

I am now currently using GoSms again, but I had to disable the notification / Quick response box. Now it runs smooth. So I'm guessing it's a Sense 4.0 issue. Apparently Sense, doesn't like notification boxes.
