[DISCUSSION] Android 5.0 Jelly Bean - Optimus One, P500, V General

Just like how we had an ICS discussion thread, I decided to make one for JB after seeing this:
http://androidadvices.com/android-50-jelly-bean-os-screenshots-chrome-os-dualboot-feature/
I thought that it was meant mainly for tablets, but judging by the picture it looks like it may run on a phone though right?
Not sure if this will ever be ported to our phone (or any phone for that matter) but I actually would rather stick with ICS (if those are the real screenshots, JB really screwed up in design in my opinion, but I really like the task manager in the status bar).
What are your thoughts?

let us have a stable ics first...
the interface isnt attractive. looks like we have to wander around miui then.

looks too gd to b real... waiting fr release

those images are just a "concept"...
that might not be the real jelly bean...
there are no real imgs available for Android v5...

I think this is a little to far for now.

The only thing I'm excited about JB is the netbook support. It was about time they released a desktop version of Android. It's linux and it will be great to test it. We could be talking about the future Windows killer

I agree, first lets have stable ICS first , beacause untill now even ICS is almoust imposible to be fully functional , almoust beacause the developers always found a"door " to resolve some things that at the first look where "imposible " , lets wish to the developers luck in the ICS builds

We don't have stable ICS yet because we are like "skipping" a step, because HC wasn't open-source, and ICS is based on it, and HC is completely rebuild, the task of getting stable ICS is as hard as getting stable iOS, if it wasn't closed-source... if I posted this when ICS was released, devs would have lost hope...
So JB should be lot easier to do
I was born in the '90's... 1290's >

way to good to be true

I don't think our device will be capable of running JB !!!):

earlier , everybody thought that ICS is impossible for our phone but the result is nw infront of us....
So let just hope that it's also possible to port JB on our O1 after it's release....

Yes people thought ICS was impossible but the devs knew it could be done.
JB will likely be too big to fit into the system and you would be taking features away from JB meaning it would be pointless

[POLL] Official CyanogenMod For ACE

Let's see what everybody thinks...
...So as most of us already know there will be an official CM7 for ACE. So let's guess when will that be.
You know, we do know. But its nit forth coming. I can't help thinking its sat on a PC somewhere and there it will stay. Just my opinion, hope I'm wrong.
sat in my one piece devil outfit as I type. . . . . no. . . really!
in my humble opinion, I think ever since it took a lot: (
Noob question:
I'm confused, I don't understand what's with the excitement about an official version. When and if the official CM for Ace will be released, what would the difference supposedly be to one of our unofficial versions? I'm currently using the vo-1 CM7.2 ROM for some time now and it has been very stable already.

I agree, most roms in here are trully amazing. I believe one of the issues that developers have to face with the official version is if the system will be armv5 or armv6 processor based. Somehow this affects lots of things. All roms in here are armv6 based... maybe an armv5 based rom will make it more stable. Maybe i am talkng rubbish, I am not an expert really.
I believe that developers of the official version try to deal with basic apps to work properly as in stock roms, like wifi, cam and stuff like that. As we already know some roms in here had issues with those that were finally fixed... anyway, this is just a poll
I think that all developer are working on cm9 and they "forgive" about Ace)

That makes it even more confusing. We have an ARMv6 CPU but a ROM based on ARMv5 would make it more stable?
Just sit tight and wait for unofficial CM9
i don't care about official one,i only want better camera clarity in CM7
i cant wait for that
Dont know how much time we have to wait to get official CyanogenMod...
its too long. hate it.
ME: are we there yet? are we there yet?
CyanogenMod: NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Anyway, I (honestly) had a dream last night that official CM7 for ACE was on my phone. Good sign? Am I obsessed? Am I going crazy ??? I can't get sleep at night, I wake up in the middle of the night, all sweat and checking for the cooper release....Please help me!!!! What's is wrong with me people? )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
Just joking....or am I not???? GOD HELP ME!!!!
Ok, come on, let me here you so CyanogenMod can hear you too... HOW BAD YOU WANT THE OFFICIAL RELEASE???

there is no difference between cyanogenmods we have and official ones
here something better coming cm9

well then you are too self conscious..
all features you need may be working fine but there is still something that needs work and official release would be as stable as stock roms without any bugs..
ports are meant to be getting something to just work on your device
official means meant to be run on yours
and atleast you should be happy that its getting official as most of android devices dont have them except some bunch of high end ones

[Q] Why do some want ICS so bad

I was reading a topic like this for the nexus s but I am curious why we need ICS for the tablets? What is it going to bring that honeycomb does not do?

No wonder even Google refuses to open source honeycomb and asked oems and customers to move onto ICS.

Agree. There's already a thousand threads about what's new with ICS (and OPs that didn't do their own research).
So here's my addition:
ICS will not get you laid.
ICS will not cool you off on a hot day.
I'm waiting ICS beacause it will bring native support to VPN connections with Group Authentication, that now is impossible to use with Honeycomb..

Well, to be honest, I haven't found any major, or noticeable, bugs on stock. Could you tell me some you have run into?
And no major fc issues either. Some of the apps indeed force close, but that is an app issue and is usually rectified with an update from play. No hc blame there.
Of course every new android version is (supposedly) better than the previous. Gingerbread was way better from froyo, it had more features, but the lack of those features in froyo doesn't make it buggy. Hope you understand what I mean.

don't get me wrong. I brought a galaxy tab 10.1 on the day it was released in nyc, and am presently a happy owner of a tab 8.9
Just HC had a lot of bugs and fcs in its initial release, though the most current Touchwiz based on HC 3.2 is definately more stable. But of course, by now, I've blissfully moved on to aokp ICS custom rom, and naturally feel no urge to return to HC. I m sure when you upgrade to ICS after sammy releases the official version this month, you'll not want to return either.

Only cuz its a way better OS.. Best Google's work so far and it's really awesome.. Now if you want to stay with hc no1 is forcing you to do so..
It's just a dumb question IMHO.. If you have a 4 cylinders engine Chevy and out of nowhere Chevy calls you and tells to you that they want to replace your old engine for a brand new 8 cylinders engine FOR FREE, will you stay with the old 4 cylinders (that works ok but some times need oil) or will you be HAPPY and go get your new engine??
Again it's up to you to stay with your old engine or go get the new 1.. But consider yourself a dork If you don't change because you are okay with the old.

yay. my dream of all those threads being closed came true. lmao. I lost count of how many threads there were. But answer... It is very unlikely we'll get it through normal terms on our phones. I don't even know what the difference is to the new jelly bean anyway compared to 4.0. New phones will always get the new OS before a year old phone gets it. Simple as that. Most companies don't support their products after 6 months anyway. *which is really sad*
Anyway, Sure I hope we get the best since I still believe our phone is the best on the market. Having LTE phone isn't a buying factor. there won't be a LTE network for sprint for another year or so. But anyway, GO JELLY BEANS. btw for everyone. You're all my new favorite friends. You rock.

I'm really just hoping that Sprint EVO 3D owners get an official ICS OTA and that HTC gets around to releasing the source soon. I don't expect HTC to bring Jelly Bean to the EVO 3D, but if we get the new kernel source, we can just do it ourselves.

I think so, and I really hope so. The two factors that slow down updates for devices are custom tweaks (Sense, TouchWiz, etc.) and drivers (like for our 3D camera and autostereoscopic screen). If Google's moves can help speed up the process and minimize the work that needs to go into updates, such as 4.1 being on the same kernel (or at least one with very minor changes), hopefully that will encourage and enable manufacturers to bring the upgrades to more devices sooner. If the Android ecosystem can ever reach a point where new OS versions only take a couple of months at most to reach supported devices, it would be a dream come true.
JB Doesn't Support Flash
Don't get too excited about JB just yet as it Flash won't work on it (see link below).

Maybe so devs can add the notifications update to ICS? I'd be happy with just that.

Eh, for me at least, I'm not too concerned about Flash. It's a dying breed as it is, with HTML 5 replacing it at a decent rate. I'd rather have the OS enhancements of Jelly Bean than Flash. But, that's just me, and I get the impression that you use Flash sites more often than I do.
I would expect some devs to port components of Jelly Bean to ICS, such as the notifications. It wouldn't have the Buttery goodness of JB, though.

Ok, so I do see your point and you are correct, I am on my browser all the time and love the flash component. It was originally a major factor for me choosing Droid over iOS in the first place but certainly not a deal breaker by any means. I do know that HTML5 is the next big thing though. I'll take my buttery goodness in the form of ICS w/ JB notifications update please!...lol.

JB
Hey guys.
I consider being able to handle/see flash a requisite of seeing the real web but at the same time, I dislike it. Can't wait till it is dead.
I'm guessing we won't see any "official" JB so not to nag but what is a typical time course [predicted?] for when we may see unofficial JB roms for CDMA Evo 3D, if ever? I'm just wondering order of magnitude type thing: 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 2 year...?
Couldn't we just use dolphin or ics browser+ for flash sites? I think chrome is the only browser that is not supporting flash... (not positive though)

I no experience differs between users but I really don't get why people say devices such as the Ray aren't suitable to run ICS, imo that's bull****. My phone runs perfectly well with ICS, just as good as it did on GB, plus, GB is so old and it's time it was allowed to die a natural death instead of people still craving after it. I get that we all like different things but this constant talk of ICS being laggy and basically rubbish is just complete nonsense .... Blame Sony for not putting out a completed, bug free version of ICS ... Blame Sony for bogging down every device with useless apps that the vast majority of people do not want or need, now that's a RAM killer (2 apps for UEFA springs to mind, I mean, WTF lol)
We all want different things from a ROM, that's why I say this purely as my own opinion but the bashing that ICS seems to get is, for me, unjust. I run stock ICS with a few mods and my Ray not only runs well but looks and feels just how I like it ... I for one am so glad ICS came along because GB was just so dull and boring in comparison.

New Roms/Updates

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of activity on the Rom front as I'm seeing it.
Is everyone busy getting ready for 4.2?
I'm kinda of jonesing for something to install.
Until we see source for the JB kernel, we are stuck on ICS builds, or JB data using a modified ICS kernel.
But no true JB builds yet....g

If anyone is leading you or anyone to believe 4.2 is an option currently, they are not being honest. Right now the only reason we have JB 4.1.2 is because we are using a modified ICS kernel and ICS proprietary blobs(drivers etc)
These blobs and kernel were enough to get JB 4.1 working but as you can see the best of the best JB ROMs ALL suffer from the same issues.
1. Random reboots
2. Random freezes
3. Video overlay issues in games and video players etc.
So our developers have done a great job with what we have.
Now we have JB 4.2.1
JB 4.2.1 introduces a lot of new features and all new obstacles.
In official JB the proprietary blobs(drivers etc) have changed tremendously from version 4.1 to 4.2.
What does that mean to us Note users?
It means that the ICS proprietary stuff is not going to work in 4.2. I am not saying it is entirely impossible but it pretty much is.
Now what?
Now we need to cross our fingers that Samsung/AT&T release an official JB update for the Note. Even if it is only 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 then we have viable proprietary stuff to work with. Until then don't get your hopes up for JB 4.2 no matter how much people say they are working on it.
There is a reason why no one has even touched it for our device. CM AOKP etc know that the time and effort it is going to take to try and patch together the ICS proprietary stuff isn't worth the end product if it will even boot. I've already compiled a JB 4.2 ROM for the Note and it doesn't even come close to even finish booting.
So everyone cross your fingers and toes for some official JB and when/if it does come, it will be like we all got brand new devices! Until then just don't get your hopes up. Even if we can get it booted with the ICS proprietary stuff its gonna be pretty useless and no way will it be able to be a daily driver.
