[Q] PS3 control won't connect - Sony Tablet S

Hi everyone, I just got the Sony cable to hook up my PS3 control but it doesn't do anything. I plug it in and the control lights up and seemingly charges but no sync, no notification on my tablet saying it's plugged in or anything.
Any ideas wtf is going on?
Cheers,
Daniel

Is your tab on 3.2.1 rev 2 F/W ?
Are you using an OTG (on the go) cable ?

Yeah, you need to be on the correct firmware. Also the cheap cables off ebay dont work. Make sure it states 'sony tablet' in the description.

Umm well I don't know about OTG, but it's the legit Sony SGPUC1 one that the website says to use? Could it be the PS3 cable that is wrong perhaps or will any mini usb work for that? The Sony cable works with my usb, just not the PS3 control. And yeah, defs the latest firmware, 3.2.1 release 2

The SGPUC1 is just a standard USB Micro adaptor, you will need to get an OTG micro-usb adapter cable to pair your joystick with the tab - do a search on Amazon or Ebay - will show plenty of options.
Hope this helps

EDIT
Got me confused now - some are apparently using this cable (SGPUC1) to connect to their PC's and some are using it to connect mice, keyboards and memory sticks - an OTG cable only works in HOST mode so it cannot do all of the above ????
I don't use a Sony branded cable so I'm not sure now just which type of cable the SGPUC1 is.
Standard Micro-USB adaptor - Tablet S is a slave and can communicate with host on a laptop/pc.
OTG Micro-USB adaptor - Tablet S is host and can cotrol attached devices, mice, keyboards, joysticks etc....

The Sony website has the following patch note:
Adds support for the Wireless Controller for PlayStation® 3 entertainment system
Requires SGPUC1 USB Adapter Cable (sold separately)
Not available in all countries and regions For Sony Tablet S only
Does anyone know if it's available in Australia? I just contacted Sony and hopefully get a reply on Monday.

My Australian Tablet S works on 3.2.1r2 with a standard DualShock 3. I'm not using the SGPUC1, I'm using one from ebay (http://tinyurl.com/75qm3zy) which I plug a standard USB to Mini-USB cable into with my DualShock on the other end. As soon as I hit the PS button, it pairs and the screen shows a notification telling me it's connected.
Are you sure you've pressed the PS button to initiate pairing?

Yep hit the PS button and still nothing, soon as I unplug it it starts up my PS3 though. I think it's gotta be a firmware issue, I can't think of any other reason it would charge but not connect properly.

Have you tried to connect anything else to the tab with the adaptor, like a usb keyboard or memory stick, if the cable is OK the tab should "see" a device plugged in.
If this works then you know the adapter is OK and that the tabs USB port is working OK, since you know your dualshock is also working, it just leaves the cable to the dualshock and the tab f/w as suspects.
You can then check the dualshock cable by plugging it into the ps3 to confirm that the ps3 is seenig the dualshock through the cable - if it does then the prob is definately with the tab.
If I remember correctly my tab responded immediately to the dualshock being connected by installing the driver for it.
Hope this helps to narrow the problem down for you.

Just another thought, make sure your PS3 is turned off at the mains while trying to get it working with the tab - I had to do that.

Remebered to turn bluetooth on ?

Is it working OK now ?
If so - happy gaming

USB's, External Hard drives both work but still nothing from the PS3 control I tried turning the PS3 off, bluetooth on and off, everything I can possibly think of. Tried multiple mini-usb cables into the PS3 control, nothing works.
I think it must be software related if it will charge, work with other usb devices but not the control. I might wait it out for ICS, according to rumours should only be like a month.
That and I'll try ringing Sony I guess, see what happens.
Thanks for all your help though guys, really appreciate it!

I'm sure you've already gone through all the steps, so it might be a hardware issue (tablet, cable or the controller).

Haha yeah I think I've tried everything possible and still not working, thanks for that though No idea why mine won't work :/

Is it a 100% official Sony controller? Or is it potentially a knock off one from ebay which without side-by-side comparison, looks like a genuine one?
My motive behind that question being you say you've tried everything, (multilpe cables, usb ports, etc) but no mention of trying a different controller. hence why I suspect this could be the problem
EDIT: Also if possible try a different controller

Haha yeah I have three all legit playstation controls, two non dualshock and a dualshock. None work. I'm gonna call Sony since they haven't replied to my email

Does the touchpad support a mouse?

I recently bought a bluetooth keyboard with a joystick for mouse movement online. Does CM7 support mouse input or is that only supported when ice cream sandwich is released?
it is supported. i just paired mine to see in both webos and cm7. cm7 gives you a nice little pointer and works really well. i know it got native input support in a honeycomb update but it appears it was added to cm7 as well. do not connect it in webos though, it treats it like a keyboard and when you move around it spews out so many characters.
Cool. Thanks for the info. Can't wait to try it out! Does it work on flash content too? (Like hovering on something causes an animation)
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
just tried it out. no rollovers at all work. flash or otherwise. i think that it is just emulating touch and showing where a finger hit would be rather than a real mouse action. maybe the native mouse input in honeycomb and beyond works with rollover.
Oh that is somewhat disappointing, but anyway thanks for the help. Still should be useful for plenty of apps, thanks!
Maybe that's a browser thing. Try other browsers to see if mouse over works.

I am using XRONified VB2.2, which I believe is based on CM7 3.5. I am using a usb Y-cable with a 5V battery pack to provide power.
When I plug in a usb mouse, the tablet freezes and must be restarted by holding both the power and home buttons down. However, I can plug in a usb mass storage device and use it just fine.
For those that have a mouse working, have you tried using a usb mouse and what version of CM7 are you using?
I think it supports Cat....
But i am also interested in buying one...if anyone can confirm which one works well with TP...both on CM& and Webos

It seems to work with CM7 alpha 2, given videos on youtube.
Anyone using CM7 3.0 willing to test if inserting a USB mouse causes the touchpad to freeze, or can anyone using CM7 3.5 without the XRON mods confirm this?
I am using a battery back which is very tiny and I hope to sew it into my case and directly tie the 5V line into my OTG cable instead of using a bulky y-cable. Having a usb keyboard/mouse support on such a compact setup would be very cool.
Battery pack is the T-mobile pack sold on amazon, I cannot link since I am a newb.
I'll take pictures when I decide how I'm going to hack apart my case/battery pack in case anyone is interested. The battery pack has a usb port on it, with all 4 pins. It might be worth taking the time to directly solder a micro usb cable to this port internally, creating a black box with cable that plugs into the touchpad and a usb port to connect devices.
A bluetooth mouse will work just fine on the touchpad (not the ones with the dongle). Android has always supported mouse input (at least since 2.0).

Thanks for the reply. It would be worth it to get a Bluetooth setup then.
I tried a USB keyboard and it worked great. I tried 3 usb mice, all of which froze the tablet. Its odd as I would think the support would be build into the kernel. It might be a bug with 3.5? Can anyone confirm that a USB mouse works or not?
Here is a video link of a mouse in action on Cyanogenmod TouchPad.
Just incase you wanted to see!!

Just got a Motorola BT mouse and it works great on my HP TP with CM7!
I defiantly recommend using a mouse.
I just need to figure out how to zoom in Maxthon for tablets with a gesture. Everything else works, even swiping.
Well, I've concluded the Touchpad currently works with USB keyboards but only with bluetooth mice. Connecting a USB mouse causes the tablet to freeze and requires a hard shutdown, at least with CM7 3.5.

Cool, thanks. So maybe it is a bug in alpha 3.5, the video is alpha 2. If anyone else could confirm it, I'd be happy. Just plug a mouse into your touchpad if you have an USB OTG and Y-cable.

Sony Branded PS3 Controller works wirelessly without root!

NOTE: If you have an OFF BRAND Controller ALL BETS ARE OFF. THIS WORKS, BUT ONLY WITH THE SONY BRANDED CONTROLLER
Is this weird, or has support for it crept in in the last few ICS Builds and I missed it? I am not much of a gamer, not by any standard, but I was impressed when I saw video of Games like Riptide and Shadowgun with a PS3 controller.
Only limitation was, they had it cabled and not wireless, but then everything I read while researching said I would need to be rooted and use Sixaxis from the Market if I wanted to pair it wirelessly. I took that at face value and moved on. THEN...
Tried my sones wired Xbox 360 controller, and it worked, mostly... Wanted a better experience and my own controller so tried 3 different off branded controllers, one was a Madcatz (Xbox360) and that worked a little, but not great, then tried 2 others one was a Power A or something like that, forget what the other was. Neither worked at all, Nothing...
So I gave in and got a nice, Bluer, Sony Branded DualShock 3 controller. Used a USB to Mini-USB cable I had laying around, and hooked 'er up. Played Riptide. Wee. Tried Shadowgun.. cool for about 90 seconds... Then I got frustrated when it wasn't easy enough for a 5 year old to play... like I said, not much for gaming. I like racing games quite a bit, and tried Need For Speed Hot Pursuit.. WHEE EE EE!!! kay, enough of that... Then I grabbed an N64 Emulator (actually a few, N64oid, SNESDroid and SuperGNES. Loaded up some old favorites. DiddyKong Racing. Super Smash Bros. etc.
Then I saw it, I was on the .13 build for the last few weeks, no major issues, just generally crappy battery life. But when I was testing some router settings for better throughput, when I went to turn on Bluetooth... whoa... Why does it show PLAYSTATION(R) 3 Controller among my BT devices? Figured it was a tease, no way I had a wireless connection without root.
But no, I went an got the controller, and as soon as I pressed the center button, like a SPLIT SECOND later, that entry went straight to the top of the list, and showed... CONNECTED. ???
Go to a game, and it was soon obvious. It just works. And works amazingly well. I suggest ANYONE that has a Sony Branded PS3 controller, and has not tried it repeat my steps... Just so we can prove this is not a fluke... Oh, and I flashed .14 today, and it still works... I don't care what changed, I am thrilled.
I may even become a serious Gamer! anyone for a real Gamers Hard Core game.. like, uh... what Angry Birds or somethin'?
Thanks. I can't wait to try this when I get home.

Yep. I hope it works as well for yo as it did for me.. Just cable it and play for a while first... The weirdest part? I never attempted to attch it via Bluetooth. Never even tried!
Heres another guy saying it works, but claims it works even with Bluetooth off (It doesn't - I HAD to try that, knhowing it was BS, but flipped BT back on an all good )
You can use a wireless Xbox controller with almost anything if you have the USB wireless microsoft receiver. I tried it today with SNESoid & N64oid. I am also not rooted and it works without any special app.
I thought it was common knowledge that you could connect a PS3 controller wirelessly without root if you had the dock, I'm pretty sure you can do it with the original TF too.

News to me. I had the TF101. And you needed it cabled to use a controller - Also, why on earth would you need the DOCK to connect WIRELESSLY? The only thing it ADDS is a USB port (And SD card which is meaningless) For that matter you can get the USB adapter that goes in the charging port to cable the controller to the Prime, if you can find one - I have one from my TF101 - Here is THE video used to demonstrate the PS3 Controller in use with Prime:
You sir are a genius...awesome!
@smarta$sphone. i may be wrong and sorry off i am but how did you have a USB to mini USB on the prime? where would the USB go? and the mini end would not fit either only micro but still confused because ps3 controller does not take USB takes that odd shaped crimped port... please advice?
And whoever said the controller will work wirelessly with dock? don't that defeat the purpose of wireless or is it to connect dock first to device to be able to use the controller wirelessly? sorry don't understand thanks
or you talking about plugging USB into the dock to begin with?
I know it works wireless (the controller) with the Sony Tablet S.

That "crimped port" is one of the most common smaller charge/data ports for older mobile tech and other things...
It's miniUSB. Just uses any ol' miniUSB to USB cable, and the dock has a USB port which is needed to sync the controller to the Prime...
I don't understand your mini/micro USB comment there, so no real comment on it...
*EDIT:
Right! I should have said it more clearly. Like the next poster says, you have to have the dock (or that adapter) to have a USB port on the Prime; all the tablet has is its proprietary charge/data port.
thanks
gotcha, lol didn't know that the crimped style was USB... so if i got that connection to a mini USB it will plug directly into the tablet or would i need mini to micro USB? worth four all the questions thanks btw
does the tablet have a mini or micro USB port?
You need either Asus Adapter or dock for USB

Yes, sorry for any confusion. I initially plugged the Dualshock 3 into the dock via a standard USB to Mini-USB cable. I also have the USB adapter that fits in the Tablets charging port, but I rarely use it - Once as an experiment I plugged the adapter into the charging port on the dock, hoping it would provide a second USB port. Logically it could have worked, but that was not the case.
You asked who said the controller would work wirelessly with the dock? Uhmmm Post #5 in THIS THREAD, the one directly before my comment, that I QUOTED in the comment?
And what ARE YOU talking about? No offense, but that "Odd shaped Crimped Port" is a MINI USB... Very common, and was used on more devices, phones, cheap cameras tablets etc, for a while until Micro USB took it's place for thinness. Look up "Mini-USB" in Google, then hit "Images" Very common...

The Tablet has NEITHER... The tablet ONLY has a proprietary charging port, but you can add THIS ADAPTER if you do not have the Dock. The adapter and the dock provide full sized USB, so you cable wood be USB (Full sized) to Mini (For the controller) Obviously you do not have a Prime, so why ask all of this?

Even if they did make that cable it would be quite useless with the prime. The tablet itself has no USB controller onboard. The adapter and the dock both have a USB host controller which allows the tablet to communicate with USB devices. HDMI is High Definition Media Interface, its not for hooking up I/O peripherals other than a monitor of some type.

Right!
Your (micro)HDMI is just audio/video, like more compact (and digital) old RCA cables.
The only way to transfer data over a hard line with the Prime (just the tablet, no keyboard dock) is through it's 40-pin proprietary port: be that through it's charging cable to a computer, or the linked adapter to some other USB device.
Keyboard dock needed?
Sorry I'm an idiot, but do you have to have a keyboard dock to user PS3 wireless controller?
Have someone tried connecting two PS3 controllers at the same time? One with bluetooth and the other one trough the USB connector. Would have been nice if you can play co-op games on the SNES. (Contra!)

[Q] Is it possible to pair PS3 controller with no root and no USB/dock?

I've been trying to figure this out for a few days now and everyone who has paired is either rooted or has a dock/USB dongle. I know it's possible to use the controller without having root and apparently it's possible to pair it without using USB but I can't get it to work at all.
I used the Sixaxis Pair Tool on my PC to set the address to my Prime. According to the instructions, as soon as you unplug and hit the PS button, it should be paired...but it didn't. The Prime picked up the controller in the Bluetooth menu but when I tapped it to pair, it asked for a PIN. I tried 0000 and 1234 which both didn't work and can't find any info on how to find the PIN. I also found someone that just said to keep cancelling when it asks and it eventually pairs for some reason but that didn't work either.
I tried pairing the controller to my phone but it doesn't even detect it (I entered the BT address) and the sixaxis app says the phone is not supported. So I put it back to my Prime's BT address and now my Prime won't even detect the controller at all like it was before. I was able to pair my phone and Prime together with no issues and the controller (original Sony brand btw) works fine on the PS3.
So has anyone here gotten a controller to work in this situation? Or do I have to use this as an excuse to buy the dock now?

I'm not sure. I have the dock and my PS3 Controller only appeared in the BT devices section after I Plugged it in to the dock.
However.... I was thinking... the Proprietary charging connector goes to a USB plug. Could you use a female USB adaptor to connect your PS3 controller to to the tablet (without the dock)? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Female-USB-...XX2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330594457&sr=8-1

I just got my prime yesterday, and I got my ps3 control work by just plugging it into the usb, pushing the centre button, then in bluetooth settings on the prime, I switched it on, scanned for devices and my ps3 control appeared so I selected it and it said connected. Then I just unplugged the usb and it worked.
I played sonic episode 1 and shadowgun with my ps3 control wirelessly. No root, no extra app downloaded. I'm going to try some more games today just to be sure.

I played sonic episode 1 and shadowgun with my ps3 control wirelessly. No root, no extra app downloaded. I'm going to try some more games today just to be sure.

I'm not sure. I have the dock and my PS3 Controller only appeared in the BT devices section after I Plugged it in to the dock.
However.... I was thinking... the Proprietary charging connector goes to a USB plug. Could you use a female USB adaptor to connect your PS3 controller to to the tablet (without the dock)? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Female-USB-...XX2Q/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330594457&sr=8-1
Can anyone answer this?

I can tell you that it will not work. The prime has no USB host controller in order to connect peripherals for communication. It only can use the built in port to communicate with other devices that do have a controller. To get a USB host controller you have to use the dock or the adapter.

Female/female adaptor to join my nexus cable (micro usb?) To my ps3 controllers cable (weird mini usb?) And it wont pick it up. Still tryn though, i have high hopes for this to work!

[Q] 4usb Hub plugged into dock?

Just about to order my dock, am i able to plug a 4usb hub into the 1 usb port provided? to give me 3 extra usbs? If someone has tried this, please give some information.
I would like to have my external HDD Mouse, Ps3/xbox controller plugged in and whatever else!
If this is the case, can the ASUS External USB Adapter also do this?
That shouldn't be any problem. Just be sure that you don't connect 4 things to your usb hub that require high current. I think that the usb host only can provide ~500mA. So, for instance, you can't connect 4 USB HDD, because they require more power. Use a self-powered hub if you want to do that (don't know if the TFP can support 4 USB HDD at once?).
EDIT: I'll try it when I get home.

Seems like the TFP only can have one external storage device at once. Can be modified in SW probably
You don't need to leave PS3 controllers plugged in, you can just plug it in, turn on bluetooth and unplug it. So that's one less thing to worry about. <.<
I've done this with my travel Targus usb hub and it works fine.
It seems I read the only thing you can't do with USB Hub and Prime is run 2 External storage devices at once with the Hub. Not sure if this true but seems I saw that somewhere.

Thats so true!! i hate using that sixaxis app! its a great idea, but just doesnt map the keys so great.
Thanks for the results, if someone has the adapter can you please test with a hub with 3 different devices, before i commit to buying!
Thanks for everyones answers!
USB hub/port.
I tried to connect a 4 port USB hub. Not successful. The prime recognized only one usb drive at a time. Once it locked on to the particular drive it will not change over to the alternate drive even if you disconnect the first one. I had to reboot to have it recognize the alternate drive.
this is an utter shame, I've ordered my adapter now, so i will tell you what happens, if it just reads my hdd that will be fine as i mostly want it to view on my TV so i dont have to connect my ps3 everytime :/
keep posting replys and outcomes of testing as i think this will be useful for everyone else wondering!

Compatible Gamepad for Tab Pro 8.4

Hey, does anybody know which gamepads are compatible with the Pro 8.4? Can't seem to find any info online. Was also looking at the Samsung Micro USB to USB adapter, and was wondering will that work with a USB Controller?

Can't recall where or what device it was with, but I do remember reading someone's post (not sure if this site or another) about using a usb gamepad on the device at that another replied: wow it works don't know why it did not occur to me to TRY IT before like I mention on another post y sent for the Hdmi kit and works perfectly. if i get a otg cable or a dock i'm trying to get cheaper i'll try with my old trusty Saitek rumble force p2500 and let you know
I actually tried an OTG cable i bought on EBAY, but it didn't work. Not sure if it is faulty or what. I tried plugging a keyboard in as well, and nothing worked.

My PS3 controller works beautifully on my Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 (SM-T520)
No need to root your device too, unless you absolutely want it to be wireless (bluetooth).
Install Sixaxis Enabler app from the playstore and run it (can't post URLs just yet...)
Plug your OTG cable in, then plug in the PS3 Sixaxis controller using its mini usb cable and voilĂ !
