[Q] cm7 exchange email app issues... - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I am currently using cm7 SD final on my NT16. I found the email app comes with it useful but not polished. It does allow search and it also strips previous email date information when you reply to an email. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I am aware of Touchdown, Enhanced mail, Kaiten and k9 options. The last two options don't support push. I have read good thongs about the first two but I am still researching for other options such as ported email apk from other ROMs or something.

I am using Touchdown to access my work exchange account, and I have no complaints about it.

That really seems like the way to go....
Does anybody have any experience w/ the CM9 email app? Is it better than the one comes with CM7?

Does anybody use the CM7 Stock Email app? I am still trying to find a solution to this w/o going to Enhanced Mail or any other 3rd party email client.
Somehow, I can't believe that the Stock CM7 Email app will purposely strip out date, cc and bc info on a reply. Is this a isolated instance of CM7 for Nook or is it a general issue w/ the Email app in CM7?

Yes i used a modified one (which i include in my modified stock ROM) and works pretty well, see below:

Stock Mail Application

Hi All,
I was just wondering I have been using the stock htc mail application to get my company email on my Eris. The application does not have a "all documents" view. This pretty much makes it useless to me because I use a lot of mail rules to move my email into folders as I receive it. I can see I have unread messages but I would have to comb through folders to find the actual mail.
I had this problem while working on the stock 1.56 android release that came with the phone and also with the 2.1 leak.
I was wondering if anyone has encountered this before and has come up with some sort of fix, or has a suggestion for another mail application. Also even if there was a way to show number of unread messages in the folders view that would also work.
Just one more FYI my company email comes through exchange.
Thanks!
You could try the Touchdown app. I personally did not like it, (also using Exchange) but they offer a free trial period to try it out.
Using Touchdown I am having the same issue that I had while using k-9. It pretty much does not work.
I am getting the email OTA Via an exchange server but the email is actually lotus notes based. Its a pretty crummy setup but because my office only supports blackberry it was the only OTA solution I could come up with.
Has anyone used Commontimes - Mnotes with K-9 and got it to work?
If so could you post instructions

Adding other email accts to Gmail problem

So i got my Eris all flashed over and provisioned and everything seems to work great. Except the ONE thing that worked through the metroflash BEFORE i provisioned ANYTHING was the stock Email app. After i finished drunkenmojo's tutorial, email did not work. GMAIL works fine however it will not let me add my AOL mail account, i think its an old version of GMAIL? How would i update it? Currently im running XTRom4.6.5. Everything works great except the stock Email app which i really need for my AOL mail. I tried K9mail and it has the same problem. If i can add my AOL mail acct to Gmail ill be a happy camper...anybody got any ideas? I reflashed the ROM and re-provisioned even...still same problem with stock Email app. I beleive my Gmail version is 1.3 or 1.5 or something like that.
Get gmail. Sorry but in there lies your problem

I have Gmail. Not willing to fully covert to it at the moment. There has to be a fix for this or a way to at least have the Gmail app read my AOL mail acct info...
I guess aol isn't widely used enough. my suggestion is find a rom with a email client that is friendly with aol

K9mail is open source right? Maybe theres something that can be done within its code to get this to work, idunno.
For now im using ShangMail as i found it works. It doesnt work the way i want to (like the stock Mail app) but it lets me check my emails just fine so whatever.

Syncing contacts

I have a question about the 2.3.4 hktw build is there a fix to sync Facebook contacts? I know blur isn't being used but is there another method to add fb contacts to address book
Try the blur fix.
I wish there was a way to fix exchange syncing. I can't get my email or contacts.

I've been using the version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=775007. It can be installed alongside BlurEmail from Motorola. It uses a separate "Exchange" type account outside of MotoBlur under accounts.
Note: This version has been hacked to remove the Exchange security features. Using this against secured, corporate Exchange is grounds for firing in some companies. (If anyone has stock Gingerbread email without this hack, I would love to have a copy.)
I use it against Zimbra, because BlurEmail frequently truncates Zimbra emails with no option to "Get More". Using this on 2.2.x allowed me to read all my email, but I couldn't click on links or copy text from the email. It seems to work perfectly on 2.3.4 though.
Just found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15164552 that was pulled from 2.3.4 samsung. It might work for you too without the concern about the security hack. I haven't tried it though.
EDIT: I installed this version. It seems to work fine. In the menu there is an icon that looks like a Volume icon that seems to actually be refresh.
That was an easy fix by just creating a new motor blur acount and adding the social networks to the accounts tab.

[Q] Tablet style email app?

Anybody found a Tablet style email app (like the WebOS one or the Galaxy Tab 7 one) that works well on CM7 alpha?
I need exchange account to work as well...
Please share, thanks
Need this too.
I tried to install some samsung email apks but I was not successful.
Kaiten .. looks really nice both in landscape and portrait.
And on a side note greader has 2 panes and on a tablet looks alot better than the stock google reader app
Looks very good. I like it.
Kaiten looks perfect! I'll give it a try

Kaiten is definitely a good candidate here. However, it's worth pointing out that it doesn't support recent Exchange servers (anything newer than Exchange 2007, I think).
I've used it successfully against Gmail, though you'll want to remap some of the IMAP folders (sent, drafts, spam, etc.) to the correct ones for Gmail (or whichever mail system you're using).
Look for the notion ink adam email client (is not on the market, but lok for the apk on google). It is VERY similar to the webos client (and it supports gmail push and exchange)
(It is called Mail'd)

I'm going back and forth between Kaiten and Gmail. Not too thrilled with Kaiten. Unwashed looking for "Mail'd" and nothing came up. :-\

Are you talking about the beta email client that's been floating around the g-tab forum? It works fairly well on cm7 on the g-tab, it should work for the Touchpad. I can't remember if it had exchange support though.
Check this out (I have not tried it yet): http://rootzwiki.com/topic/6629-dual-pane-email-app/
I want a different email app, but also need Exchange 2007 support.
Here's a demo of Mail'd:
Looks like you can get it from here

How about k9 mail, it's free on market.
Installed k9, entered my work email info, played with it for one minute and quickly uninstalled. It doesn't appear to me to have anything that beats the stock app.
Completely agree. Actually the best I've seen is the stock app. But I'm primarily a Gmail guy.
Has anyone gotten mail'd to work? I flash it with success in recovery but no app appears on the tablet.

Why did you flash it through recovery????
Look at your PM and I'll send you the APK, just install it as any app
Works great for me. No portrait mode. Im always in landscape unless an app forces me. Just thought I'd mention it.

Stock email app unusable

Anyone else having trouble with the stock email app? Its brutally slow and freezes the whole phone. The problem is that it syncs with the stock calender app which I need. K9 mail does not as far as I know. I wish it was possible to remove our replace the stock email app with a newer or older or fixed version or something, but I don't have root and I don't know how to without it. Any suggestions for this problem or similar experiences?

I was having issues with the stock email app. Any message I would send from my phone it would stay in the outbox and not actually send the email. I would try manually pushing the email and that would not work. My suggestion is to try enhanced email from the market. I have been using it for a week now and the customizations above the stock email are worth the price. I believe you can Google it and download a free week trial version from their website.
You can try other mail clients but if you are using your phone for work and connecting to an Exchange (or exchange-like) ActiveSync server, take it from someone who is not only a heavy email user but also the email co-admin for a 5000 user environment, Touchdown by Nitrodesk right now is the only fully functional non-buggy exchange mail client for Android. If you are only a casual or occasional email user then Enhanced Email is ok, but still has a lot of bugs. I have a lot of experience supporting everything else out there (Including a few hundred Blackberry Enterprise users, and iPhone users) and right now Touchdown for Android is the only stable one that has feature parity with a real corporate email client.
Having said that, the stock mail client on CM7 is a lot less buggy than Samsung's, HTC's or Motorola's. So if you really need to use stock for some kind of calendar integration or because your favorite widget only supports stock mail and you are comfortable with flashing custom roms then CM7 give a try.
Hi, i'm really new to all this root/cwm/flash thing, i hope i am posting to the correct thread. It seems that the stock email client will not work on unNamed rom, probably because social hub is not installed. It just won't set up the account. (I did install social hub using the addon provided by the unNamed, but didn't work, social hub won't add any account for that matter) Gmail does work. I just wanted to point out this issue, to see if someone is having the same situation.
Sorry, i'm a complete noob.
