and no it was not a joke, i'm all serious regarding the Screen Size
you can say the Note is just in the cross road of a phonbled, and too big yet not big enough, or too small yet not small enough

Pros and cons. That is a tough one as most people will surely give you different opinions of what they like and don't like. I can give you my opinions of the phone but that doesn't mean a single person on the planet will agree. Coming from the HTC world this is my first Samsung phone so it is taking some getting used to.
My pros and cons.
Pros:
Screen size
Weight
Thinness of the phone very sleek
Speed
Screen quality is absolutely phenomenal!
S-pen is cool!
Battery life compared to my Inspire 4G is out of bounds!
Overall smooth cohesive experience with Touchwiz
Easily rooted thanks to the devs in this forum!
Camera quality is superb.
Cons:
Or should I say Con and this is totally a matter of preference.
Touchwiz interface. I know I gave it a pro but I personally just enjoy a pure AOSP experience. My Inspire shipped with Sense UI and again preference only, I hated Sense. I do not hate Touchwiz, in fact it is really not bad at all and actually quite good. So this is really not even a Con but just a preference. I can install a different launcher and pretty much have an AOSP feeling rom. The Beauty of Android! And in all reality Touchwiz really in my opinion doesn't stray that far off from stock android as far as experience truthfully. Samsung has done a great job with hardware and software and I am truly impressed with my first Samsung device. In my own opinion I would take Touchwiz over Sense, Moto Blur or any of the other interfaces these companies have slapped on top of vanilla Android.
So really all in all, No Cons for me!

DON'T POST STUPID DANGEROUS COMMENTS IN XDA. I hope you were kidding but not funny either way.

Holy smokes I hope you are joking about the one handed typing while driving.

why are you typing while driving? that's very dangerous and very selfish of you.

Pros - Basically everything. Huge, great looking screen, great battery life, snappy performance.
Cons - Lack of ICS.

wow that is messed up. this user deserves a permaban.

Do not drink or text while driving..

It is still pretty new here for AT&T so the developers will come. As soon as I get time I'm going to start porting stuff over that I wrote for the inspire 4G. Just been super busy with work since I got my Note

One if the first replies said it best:
Pros: Screen size
Cons: Screen size
From there, it's going to be completely personal to which camp you'll have the bigger foot in.

Pros:
Great screen with the exception of the black clipping of dark wallpapers and dark scenes in movies.
SPen works really well.
Screen size.
Super thin.
Very fast.
Expandable memory.
Removable battery.
U.S. version can be used on Tmo.
The overall size of the phone is often highly exaggerated. It fits into all of my pockets.
Cons:
Battey life sucks. Buy extra ones. If used as a phone it lasts forever, but who would use this as just a phone?
Black clipping as explained above.

I also found that it's not that fast it lags quite often for me, I dont know if I have a lemon but I also have a Galaxy Nexus and that device has almost never lagged on me. Even just swiping through my homescreens is a tough job, I think Touchwiz has something to do with that.

Odd, my Note is actually quite responsive. Hard to compare nexus with note. Big difference between gingerbread and ICS as far as performance. I am running rooted stock with not a whole lot of widgets and stock launcher. Tried some other launchers with not a lot of luck and they lagged pretty bad. Maybe not meant for this resolution.

Good lord, people, i was kidding! Sheesh, i haven't texted and driven in years. Friend got in a nasty wreck and scared the crap out of all of us.

I don't have a G'note, but as an avid Inspire 4g user and ROM flasher, I can tell yall one big pro of it: flappjaxxx is on board
Would it make me a stalker if I used the upgrade on my step-father's line of my family plan just to get a G'note to wait (im)patiently for the first Collective ROM for it??

Okay guys i'm coming towards the end of my contract and will soon be saying goodbye to my beloved Hero. I have short listed either the:
*HTC Desire or *Samsung Galaxy S
Both have amazing specs and the price's don't bother me.
Can anyone help me sway towards one of them! With reasons
Much appreciated
sell the hero and buy both of em.
I am in the same boat as you. I am sort of inclinded towards the Samsung, purely for the following reasons:-
1. Dedicated graphic chip
2. Super Amoled
3. lighter, thinner and battery suppose to be awsome.
4. 2gb rom
5. Source code freely available.
6. Its not HTC - something different.
Possible downsides of samsung
1. Some GPS issues?
2. Touchwiz seems a mixed views.
3. No LED flash
4. No trackpad
5. Seems samsung doesn't have a good track record of updates (ie behold)
gsmarena is usually good for comparing
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3115&idPhone2=3077
Frankly, i went the logical way and got myself a Desire, but soon realized i rather have a smaller phone and ended up with x10mini which does 99% of what any other android phone, but weights half as much and takes virtually no space. So may be give it a try or wait for sony x8.

Thanks for the respones guys.
@silver2kgti
Haha I wish! If only the Hero sold for a bit more...
@tweedie
I agree the dedicated graphics chip and amoled screen is the reason for my debate!
IMO Touchwiz is inferior to Sense but i'm using LauncherPro atm anyway and yea the lack of flash is a disappointment but apparently it has nightmode and daymode
that actually makes a difference?
@pulpoff
What were your opinions on the Desire? Much the same as the Hero except improved hardware?
actually, I went a head and got myself a samsung galaxy s. and over the moon with it.
It is indeed a really awsome screen, bright and clear. not slow at all, and the boot up is literally seconds! battery life is surprisingly good. Touchwiz isn't too bad actually. some software on there is a bit pointless (like social hub that simply connects to the webpages, Daily Briefing seems american webpages and can't change it). FM radio isn't bad either - still have to connect your headphones but it can play through speakers.
Its incredibly light and thin. It does feel plastiky at the back, and cos its so thin it feels like its gonna break!
So far, the downside is that the GPS doesn't seems that accurate or fast. side by side with htc hero - hero wins.

[Q] Did I really mess up by getting an Amaze 4g?

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I'm happy to finally become a member of this community after shedding my buggy LG touchscreen phone.
I got this Amaze 4g on Monday at the T-Mobile store since they had very limited phone stock and the sales reps highly recommended it since they had dropped its price to the same as the SGS2. This is my first smartphone but I'm now disappointed to find out that the Galaxy S2 has much more dev support and is a bit better for gaming and power-using. I keep seeing youtube videos that hail the Amaze 4g as the winner in most if not all head to head reviews.
I'm now contemplating returning this for a Galaxy S2 since gaming is a big part of my spare time, but I'd have to pay a damn $50 restocking fee. Is the Galaxy S2 that much better to justify paying the $50? Am I really missing a lot?
I would love to hear more from gamers using the Amaze 4g. Most reviews of heavy games on the Market like Modern Combat 3 and Dead Space have reviews of SGS2 users, and I could find no Amaze 4g users among the reviews. I'm not really much of a picture taker, so the camera on the Amaze isn't something I would miss too much. I'm not looking to start a flame war or anything of the sort. I just want to make sure that I have a capable phone to play these games before I buy them.
They have the same processor so gaming shouldn't be too different performance wise.
The reason your seeing more reviews for the galaxy s 2 is because the gs2 is a more popular phone world wide compared to the amaze.
I work for tmobile and the most popular phone people ask for is the gs2, maybe due to proper ads by Samsung where HTC kinda stopped with advertising their flagship phones since they roll out a new one every month.
So don't worry, u got urself an amazing phone!

Hey.. leak out some kernels and phone info so we can grow the development...
Just stick a usb in.. copy, paste, and no one will ever know.
Just get a Galaxy S2 and feel good about it.
It's your choice not mine and if you don't feel like just get a right one for you.
You are stuck with this phone for Maximum 2 years.
Get a phone you want to use for 2 years.
I am a bit of a heavy user on my phone when it comes to games, all i use my phone for is games, facebook, text, and some other things xD haha. that said, i havent recieved my Amaze yet BUT i played Deadspace and Eternal Legacy (big game, over 1GB) on my Sensation and they ran butter smooth. now with the CPU underclocked and less RAM it would obviously not run as smooth as the Amaze.. the sgs ii will run just as smooth as the amaze in games. they have the same CPU/GPU/amount of RAM.
I'll vouch for this, I had the SGSII for a week and I hated every minute of it...the resolution is lower even though its a amoled screen, I don't think the colors are even that much better to be honest, the blacks are just darker, thats all.....I hated everything about it, the camera, how big it was, how big everything on it was...I did a direct sunlight test, and HTC IS better even though they advertise that super amoled is better, its BS. it has more dev support becauses samsung doesn't put as much restrictions on their phones as HTC does. That's the reason.
Camera is immensly better on the HTC. I absolutely hate Touchwiz, where as Sense seems much better.
Its ultimately your choice
Just to be clear when you're talking GS2 are you talking the GS2X with the Snapdragon or S2 with Samsung's more powerful Exynos processor?
Either way the Amaze has the upper hand in terms of resolution and Camera, keyboard if you're using stock Sense keyboard vs TouchWiz IMO. Game play goes to the Amaze if you're comparing Snapdragon's but if you're looking at the Exynos I'd give gaming to Sammy.

Love my Amaze, although I don't like the feel in my hand. My hands aren't that big so the curved back makes it difficult to hold it tightly.
Actually wished it was squared off more, like the SGS2, but it's a minor issue.
Held the DROID RAZR and that thing holds very nicely, but no removable battery (and not being on T-Mobile) kills it for me.
Overall, very satisfied with my Amaze, although it took installing LauncherPro & disabling a bunch of preinstalled apps using ADB using ZergRush 1-Click Temp Root.
I love the amaze as well.
Did a lot of researching before picking one up, but so far it's been worth it (other than battery life, and possible video recording issues.). Got a nice score of 1057 on Vellamo, so I'm plenty happy about performance. In terms of hardware specs, it's pretty much one of the high end ones, with a balance of storage and features. (Unlike a couple of other options out there.)
Hasn't locked up/random reboot on me yet!
Of course, I came from the Motorola xt720 (extremely buggy at times), which was my first android device. So my experience isn't as great as some others.
Currently on stock ROM, but it's unlocked and rooted. Just waiting for a nice stable ICS build to come along!
I came from an SGS1 and I loved that phone, especially since it had so much development. To be completely honest, if WIND Mobile had the SGS2, not a single doubt in my mind that I would've gotten that handset instead of the Amaze, simply because the SGS2 is leaps and bounds ahead of the Amaze in terms of custom ROMs and whatnot.
That being said, I still love my Amaze because it is by no means a bad phone. It's just a lot newer than the SGS2 and it's a shame that HTC is making it harder for developers to get into coding for the Amaze.
I love HTC I guess you could say I'm a fanboy so take this with a grain of salt. My friend has the Samsung C(r)aptivate and my mom the Samsung Galaxy Tab (1st gen), and when ever I upgrade either one I f**k it up in some way or another, because for some reason I always have to go back to stock before I do anything but having an HTC I forget this. I don't know about the SGSII since I've never rooted/flashed one but I love my HTC Amaze it should be better than the SGSII by a bit since it is clocked faster stock, however SGSII have an accelerated internet browser so it is a bit faster in web browsing. So all in all it is looks, feel and preference. I love the heft of this phone and the way it feels in my hand, Sense is the best interface other than AOSP although it is a bit heavy, IMO TouchWiz is garbage. So they are pretty damn similar phone (unless it is the SGSII Hercules which is exactly the same). As mentioned before Samsung has better development since it is a joke to root it and have no Nand lock etc...

My 2cents worth, the Amaze has only been out a few months, the Devs are working on it, so custom roms are slow coming out. Personally I really like the Amaze, and have never had a Sammy, so can't say on that. Finally it's all up to you and your preferences.
You my good sir did not mess up... The amaze is waaaayyyyyy better than that sgs2. First, just look at how the amaze is made compared to the same old plastic on the sgs. Second, the camera, don't even get me started, this phone has the best camera I've ever owned to be honest, I don't buy expensive cameras, infact I've only owned one camera. Third, there is more developement on sgs2 because its pretty obvious, Samsung has managed to put their galaxy line in the mainstream, popular enough to be competing head on with the iPhone. And remember that HTC doesn't release their phones the same way everytime, they change how their phones are made every few models, take a look at the sgs line and its pretty much the same. Also the amaze has a qhd screen, the sgs has has a 480p screen if I'm not mistaken, and when I look at the sgs it looks all pixaleted if you know what I mean. And finally, the dev here is still in its baby steps, its all about patience.
And as for gaming, my experience has been great, I've been playing gta3 with no fcs no lag, I've also played asphalt 6 and worked awesome.

Plus, the Amaze is one of the few to receive the ICS update (hopefully this month). And once that drops, I believe development for the Amaze will pick up substantially.

someone mentioned that the gs2 has lower clock speed, i think for the original one.. yes. but the tmobile hercules t989 it has the same clock speed.
anyways, there's too much exaggeration that the tmobile gs2 development is light years ahead of us. they do have a few devs, but they're not light years ahead of us. a lot of their devs are leaving, and its mostly just tweaked touchwiz, like how ours is tweaked sense. Yeah there are some asop roms, but don't think by having a gs2, you'll be flashing roms like crazy.. because you're not (yet).
I've had the amaze for 2 months before switching over to the gs2. Don't get me wrong, the amaze is a beautiful and fast phone with the better camera... much better. The only thing that bothered me is the battery life. the battery life is simply okay.. this could be fixed by running something other than sense or having a spare or two (one should be enough). but yes sense kills the battery. if it wasn't for the battery life, i would still be using the amaze.
listen to everyone else about the screen. the washed out screen isn't as bad as it sounds. you won't notice it at all when playing games. i played games on both phones. the amaze will give you more details and it will pop out more with more accurate colors. like i said on one of my breakdowns of the two phones.. if you're a gamer, you would want to go with the amaze simply because the games look better. functionality is the same for both phones. You're gonna kill your battery playing games on either so buy a spare anker and you're good to go.
As far as gaming the amaze is pretty bad as far as touch screen compared to the SGS2. i noticed this on few games that my buddy at work(who has t-mo sgs2) informed me about where multi touch gets faulty the more you play or longer you go with out rebooting you phone. This is not the case on his galaxy.
few games that come to mind are jelly defense, jet car stunts, flick golf, also on GTA3.
Well, I'm happy to hear more people have been gaming on the Amaze 4g. I've downloaded Zenonia 3 and Dead on Arrival and they make my phone's left side of the screen really hot. Yesterday whenever I would quit Zenonia 3 and go to the Task Manager, the phone would lock up and do a restart. It did this consistently 3 times! On the last time it switched off the mobile network by itself which was very frustrating.
I find the Amaze to be a bit laggy when navigating menus, especially regarding the touch-screen's feedback. I have yet to take a pictture with this greaest of cameras. Can Sesnse be removed? I just would love to know if this will get better but it is more of a gamble than anything. I hope when ICS comes out things get better. If the T-Mobile store doesn't get a SGS2 by next monday I'll have to stick with the Amaze.
Thank you all so much for the comments and advice.
I did a lot of soul searching when I was deciding on SG2 or Amaze.
What I like in the Amaze:
1) Camera buttons
2) Notification Light
3) Better form factor, SG2 feels too wide and square (personal preference)
4) Higher resolution
5) Solid/higher quality build perception
What I like from SG2 is:
1) AMOLED screen
2) Better battery life out of the box
3) Better benchmarks (bragging rights but doesn't translate into better everyday use)
4) Lighter feel
5) Better brand recognition
I initially ended up with the Amaze because they were out of SG2. I don't regret it after comparing it with two of my friends with SG2. I can still return the Amaze but I guess I'll keep it. The only thing I hate so far with the Amaze is the softkeys light bleeds onto the screen. Battery life so much better after I rooted and custom rom.
You guys shouldn't regret having the amaze, I am not happy with the sgs2. I use to have an amaze I really miss my amaze its impossible to get use to this stupid resolution. More devs don't matter when the roms aren't up to quality a lot of them haven't been updated in a long time. Juggernaut is the best so far IMO but the amaze feel is better x makes quality roms. No notification light is annoying to now I have to use bln.

Galaxy S3... Share your thoughts

So finally the galaxy s3 is here. What do you fellas think of it. Please share.
For me, considering that I took no notice of the over hyped rumor mill that preceded it's launch, its a great phone with a few decent new features like s voice, s-beam, eye tracking, etc.
Although these features I suspect will have very limited day to day application, they're still nice to have and show Samsung to be at the vanguard of new innovations. It also feels like an ICS phone which sadly the HTCs do not. Maybe something to do will the 3.0 kernel.
The processing capabilities are very impressive with a buttery smooth user interface and silky scrolling. In terms of speed, it obviously won't feel much faster than most multi core devices but it's smoothness is unrivaled.
An 8mp camera and the absence of a hdmi port is rather disappointing but not crucial. It's design will not please all. Let's face it, no design pleases all.
Given a choice today between it and the xperia s, I probably would still go with the xperia because it has the hdmi port and better quality display but I hope the ICS update improves the UI performance and scrolling. Without improvement in those areas, I might find myself beginning to regret picking the xperia.
I thing user experience counts for a lot and a jerky and even laggy experience is quite frankly in my opinion, beneath a 2012 phone.

Compete fail just a slight incremental update at best to GN and It looks butt ugly, like an old plastic mid range Nokia, screens to big for most ppl, also uses touchwiz, phone will only be good for 10 mins of benchmarks and that's it. Enough said.

Not good and pretty enough. I didn't regret buying SXS over the One series and still I don't regret buying it.
And seriously. Pentile display in a flagship phone?
My thoughts?
I couldn't care for it really...like all the other phones out now besides the Sony line, its...blah...
Nothing appealing to the eye :/
They should/could have made it better, all bark and no bite.
....next!
Meh. Looks like a Galaxy Nexus 4S. A bit more screen, a bit more CPU power, a bit of this and a bit of that. Lots of gimmicks that you're never going to use - the best are wireless charging and S Beam ( which is most likely SGS3 to SGS3 only ), though the latter can and likely will be implemented in AOSP or forks when someone gets their hands on the actual device and explores the protocol, or maybe even earlier without Sammy compatibility. Lots of even more gimmicky accessories (spebble). Ugly ugly ugly ugly UGLEH body. Battery hog (quad-core x AMOLED x front camera always on aka Smart Stay - wireless charging = fail ). If I had to choose between my Desire and the SGS3, I would pick SGS3. But my XPS does everything I need so I won't be getting that thing ever.
@OP Sammy never was the innovator in the first place. Almost every single killer feature they have is either vanilla ICS or already exists in some form.

I think it will do much better than that. Credit where credit is due. It's the best performing phone right now and I just hope ics improves the ui performance of the xperia s because it's the poorest part of the phone. It's pretty fast and instant everywhere else but the UI feels very 2011 possibly even 2010ish in its performance which is a damn shame.
Well lets keep hope alive even history tells us that software development has always been one of Sony Ericsson weaknesses.

The thing is smoothness to CPU power is not linear. Having four cores doesn't give you an instant boost and a buttery smooth UI. This 'lag' is the way Android works and the great multitasking power we are used to might not have been possible without it. The rest is manufacturer optimisation. And yeah, quit whining about smoothness. Try ICS on a G1 and you'll be happy about how smooth your UI is on any other device.

It definitely fell short.
I think too many people hyped it up.
I know that many Samsung fanboys are upset. I was on another forum and after the unveil all I heard were complaints.
It is the new performance benchmark though.
However, it's too freaking big and the design is ugly.
Can't wait for the Sony Hayabusa to mop the floor with it.
and just one more thing, MEIZU quad core is most powerfull phone on market this year...
Samsung isnt top BEAST out there...

I don't think I mentioned CPU anywhere in any of my posts. The UI performance of the xperia is the poorest of all the new phones out right now. It's as quick as any if not faster at performing tasks. Could be something to do with the very graphics intensive nature of it but I think it's performance is not quite 2012ish.
Let's not turn this into a fanboy topic. It's not a major crime hoping for software improvements now is it.
I did not believe any of the rumors that followed the Samsung so I'm not surprised in any way by it's spec sheet.
Those who were expecting 1080p displays and all the rest of it were just living on another planet. You can't expect too much after just a year after the release the S2.
Can we not discuss the positives and negatives of phones without reverting to all the tribal nonsense.

Then you should ask this question on general android forum section....not in SXS section...we are with reasons on SXS, reason to buy it, to keep it and reason to develop it.
We do not need any other phones on this part of forum if you ask me..
but you asking in wrong places....
that is like a blog of iPhone ask that about SGS3....LOL
Seriously you think that big egg is very beautiful??
I mean you're joking right!you know I even had second thoughts of buying HTC OneX,
Then again thank god that I didn't go for the Tegra 3 chipset cause nVidia has some issues with HD video playback and which snapdragon doesn't have at all.
and I even noticed that XPS is very responsive and smooth,
I seriously don't care about the faster performing tasks, only thing that bugs me is the yellow tint that I got, which is a pain in the ass when it heats up.
and even though samsung tried too hard to put up their new phone and they failed to beat up iPad's GPU which is sad for them,
technically I don't regret having this phone and I really love the timescape UI and I think they will do something new with their ICS update,
cause they always the first to come up with new ideas and others tend to copy it from them.and I love the fact that they are keeping up with snapdragon chipset.
I know nothing much about nova thor chipset though..
GS III is an epic failure to me and I'm looking forward to get this hyabusa with S4 chipset.
the funny thing is that after GS3 the very next day LG comes and anounced a BEAST phone with Quad core chip,1,5ghz,4,7 inch screen with 720p display 32gb internal with micro sd support,LTE and the best thing 2GB RAM which Samsung already has 1GB AGAIN with GS3..i love galaxy s2 but galaxy s3 dissapointed me...i own a Sony Xperia S now and i am very happy with it..after the Samsung Galaxy S3 event i trade my Samsung Galaxy Nexus with Sony Xperia S because Samsung made me mad (seriously PENTILE SCREEN again??i dont give a fawk if it is AMOLED screen)...Now i love SXS because its my first Sony smartphone and i have to say its brilliant and fast and the screen is just AWSOME...!LOVE IT seriously and i prefer to go for the new LG with 2GB ram rather than SG3 if i had to give SXS for another but i will not do this soon...now i will shut my mouth and i will enjoy SONY XPERIA S!!!!
I do like the eye tracking idea (bugs me like hell when the screen switches off when I'm reading something!!).. but I the rest of it is generally pretty lame.. and the size.. Jeez.. I'm 6'1" and I couldn't operate a phone like that with one hand.. just too big.. Quad core.. schmod core... once we have ICS we will see a smoothness added to the UI...
not impressed... and other than the fact that they have a big customer base from the SGSII.. I can't see why anyone would choose it.
Not bad!
I can't deny that i've been anxiously waiting for the release of this new Sammy device and a bit impressed of it overall!
The design is not bad as most of the people say, not new but not repulsive.
As of the specs, we all expected most of the things; that's y most of us SXS owners didn't wait for its release coz the SXS did it all!
I already owned SGS2 and HTC sensation, both were amazing, but after i used SXS, i really enjoyed having a smartphone, in terms of build and sound quality and most of all the software, but really annoyed from the touch buttons though. The phone never hanged on me, always smooth and responsive, not like the touchwiz which is primitive and the sense which is laggy no matter what u do with it.
We should wait and see when it's available and after being used by people and assess after user experiences!

Again I never said the galaxy s3 was beautiful. All I said was beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I also said that given the choice, I world pick the xperia because it suits me more.
I'm very disappointed that very few people in here have the grace to say anything positive about the S3 which is a shame as it has many good points too.
Instead we have ended up with the same tribalism where you only dwell on the negatives.
The eye tracking thing is a bit suspect in my opinion. Having the front facing camera constantly working like that could have a detrimental impact on battery life.
My greatest appreciation is reserved for the silky smooth UI. Now that's something I could really do with. I'm rather tied of jerky and laggy.

I for one never said that it's a bad device. I even said I would buy it in certain conditions. The chipset is good, the screen is good, the software has some good features that I outlined. But overall SGS3 is the Half-Life 3 of mobile devices. It was hyped so much that it couldn't live up to the hype built around it not without Samsung's help. We expected something revolutionary, and got something evolutionary. Therefore the general meh direction this discussion is taking.

Was expecting a Arc>>>SGII situation
But it's just another One X
To put it in a metaphor, the SXS is ya Japanese/European supercar
SGIII/One X is ya American Muscle
I guess It depends on what ya want from the phone really, I personally still think what you lose from the SXS for them quads is too much.

Hello all, Just would like some opinions please

Hi all, I am a member here coming from an AT&T Galaxy S3. I just ordered a Galaxy Note an hour ago and wanted to know some hands on user experiences? I have looked at youtube videos and they just don't seem to do the trick. I would like to know if they are really smooth and if they have good functionality, battery life, and if the development is good?
With the GSM SIII's losing IMEI's left and right, and all the bugs already, I am wondering how good the note really is.
I am not really looking for a 'persuasion' opinion because I will have both devices here before too long when the note gets here. I just want to know everyones experience and if the phone is laggy or anything, or any known bugs.
Any help is greatly appreciated and I will thank all members that give me some feedback.
Thanks! :good:
First off congrats on getting your note.
Stock 2.3 had some lag issues for me but ics fixed that and is smooth even stock.
As far as development goes i haven't tried allot out but have seen allot going on there are some great stockish roms with only a few tweaks but my choice right now is the collective aocp cp1 ROM .

I appreciate this. I am hoping it will be good. I have like 8 devices now and I am trying to keep it on just one lol. I am stuck between my GSIII and now the Note when it arrives. I am sure each will have its perks. I just wanted user experiences.
Right now, in my opinion, the Note is the best phone on the market. We have awesome dev support. Any worries of lag you can pretty much throw out the window. The stock ROM, debloated, is very smooth and performs well, I have been quite happy with debloated stock ICS, and it it's legitimately the first Android I have used where the stock ROM is bearable, let alone satisfactory.
However, the work the devs have done will likely make you want to flash a custom ROM fairly quickly. We have official CM9 nightlies, and to make that even better, Cyanogen himself is the developer for that. We also have AOKP variants, as well as a few hybrids and AOSP roms. I'm currently running Gubment Cheeze by rasroygbiv, which is a CM9 variant, and I couldn't be happier, this thing flies and sips battery; highly recommended by me. I've tried most everything in the development forum as I'm a flashaholic, and I can tell you that the Note will not disappoint. JB is also in the works by several of our developers, and we should have stable builds very soon. Dev support is awesome to say the least.
There are no issues with IMEI switching that are know, and we have plenty of options to return your Note to complete stock, including a flash counter reset, so you shouldn't have any worries flashing. In addition, it's a Samsung, which means unless you're dumb and rush things, it's damn near impossible to hard brick. And even if you do manage to hard brick, there are JTAG services available for like 40 bucks that will fix that.
Battery life is slightly above average which is nice. Most people get around 3.5-4 hours of screen on time, and generally anywhere from 12-18 hours of standby or more depending on what all you have running/syncing. So there shouldn't be any worries there.
Plus, we have this beautiful 5.3" monster of a screen that will make you fall in love. It isn't even a question that you'll love the Note. It's a question of if you'll still love your other phones. =]

First thing I would recommend is go with either a stock debloated ROM or even better would be going with h0tw1r3's ICS kernel and DAGr8's AOKP milestone 6 ROM. This combination for me has been beyond excellent. Incredibly smooth, rock solid stable and a pleasure to have. With my current CPU setup I'm at 15 hours off the charger and still have 70% battery (1 hour of screen on).
You can expect about 4-5 hours of actual screen on time.
If you can get past the size of the phone - which is honestly the biggest stumbling block for most new comers to the note, there's very few devices out there that are as good as the i717.
Good luck with your new note!

I am limited to 8 thanks per day, which I am pretty sad about, but I will be sure to thank you tomorrow haha.
I am not worried about the size, just the lag issues I have heard about and the quality of the screen.... can you differentiate between pixels to the naked eye or anything?

The new one is coming or being announced in two weeks. My note with the ROM I'm currently using is just as fast as my S3, and much more capable due to the Samsung apps-- I.e. S Note, the widgets, and the ability to flash S3 apps and widgets because of phMod and the touchwiz framework support inherent in such a configuration.
You absolutely ant go wrong. I had a macbook pro, which I used for browser duty/media, and an iPhone for gaming and news. I stopped using my iPhone and my macbook pro when I got my TF101. I then got my Galaxy Note, and stopped using my tablet for anything but reading, and I split news duty between my Note and Transformer.
Even with the Snapdragon S3, ICS & the custom ROMs (and gingerbread earlier on) made it so the performance was as smooth or smoother than on any other device I touched, including the Prime.
Even games like Dead Trigger, with the Tegra 3 graphics effects enabled run well. They don't run at 60FPS, but to be honest, the display quality is such that you'll be wowed by the resolution and color vibrance and won't notice when you're only running at 30-40 fps. The gpu was the only area where I could've used just a tad bit more power-- I had that power with the GPU over clock that came with the first over clock kernel that was available here. I haven't seen that GPU OC make a comeback in ICS, even after the kernel source was released--disappointing.
Some suggest that the new Note will have a quad core S4, or the new Exynos wit baked in LTE (they won't give up LTE)....so I really think you're cutting yourself short. On the other hand, the enthusiasts and developers are, and will be here, likely for another year, when on contract, they can get an early 18 month upgrade, unless they buy retail.
You have a vibrant, CM and Indie supported community here, with the turkey, the gravy, and all the trimmings. Its impossible to guarantee that wit a new device-- especially one that had a predecessor released what, 4 or 5 months ago (Jesus christ!).
So weigh an established device that is supported, vs a SoC upgrade....because the Note 2 won't be much different. It wont have a better screen-- in fact, the screen resolution will stay the same, and if the rumors are correct, screen size will increase, resulting in a lower pixel density. It will be unproven, and might get better battery life (I say it might, because the rumors say it will get thinner....something that will impact the battery capacity, when in combination with a change to a more efficient, would likely balance out). It will have a less dense, but bigger screen.
I will however tell you that virtually e v e r y o n e that's used the Note, would likely pick it over any device on the market anywhere.
The form factor and screen quality trumps virtually every other ace in the hole out there.

I can't compare the Note with your S3, but I have the Note and the international quad core S3. My quad S3 is definitely a hair smoother, but that doesn't make up for the extra screen real estate, and s pen functionality. The extra smoothness of the S3 is hardly noticeable, versus when I pull out my s pen and start taking notes. That's a noticeable difference.

honestly I will probably NEVER use the SPen lol.... I just like the bigger screen and I hear great development for it.
I just dont wanna go from my S3, to a Note, and then be disappointed. Granted I can always switch back, but I just spent X amount of money a new in box sealed note. I am pretty hopeful it works good. Thinking about donating some of these other phones I have to Devs that have bricked or something. I litterally have 2 iphone 4's, 2 iphone 4s's, a One X, a Note now, an S2 and S3, and like the older G1's and stuff. May do that when I finally decide what device to keep.

iPhone 5s to M8

Anyone else jumping ship? Very attached to my iPhone and it's extremely fluid simplicity.
I can't deal with the battery life anymore, drives me up a wall so I have been looking around.
I worry about the new camera technology featured here where as I am a proud father and rare urban explorer and enjoy snapping and editing in my downtime.
Any advice or suggestions?
I'm not new to Android in any sense, typically favor the Galaxy series and CM nighties for that Vanilla fix but I haven't been around lately to be in the loop with development.
Thanks guys. - Harry

I just got the M8...came from an iphone 5. Been using iphones since 3g. I got tired of itunes dictating everything I could do with my phone. I like the freedom of plugging my phone into any pc and adding pics...and music. That wasn't a luxury with the iphone. I also like the fact that you don't have to restore your phone whenever your storage space gets to low, because the mysterious "other" is taking up the extra space.
I also felt like the iphone's are being left behind. If you look at the 3g to the 5s...there isn't a whole lot of difference with the features they have. I will admit that it's going to take some getting used to the M8 coming from the iphone...mainly the touchscreen...I like the Samsung touchscreen a lot better. But I still feel good about my decision to switch phones.

Battery life was great until 7.1, things went down hill really fast after that.
I might be jumping ship, still deciding.
I jumped ship from iPhone 4 to the HTC One X back about a year and a half ago. Was an excellent decision for me. If you like tinkering and more freedom with customizing your phone AND you want a quality built device I think the M8 would be a great choice. I have had the HTC One (M7) and Galaxy s4 and HTC is superior.

I did own the S3 for a while then upgraded to the S4 and paid cash and was simply disappointed.I didn't feel it was a true upgrade and returned it within 24 hours. The Note 3 seems more appealing then the S5 at this point due to it's larger battery size but I read reports they last about just the same.

I think a lot of it is also personal preference. I know plenty of people who love Samsung TouchWiz and people that hate HTC sense. I just happen to dislike TouchWiz quite a bit and found that I enjoyed Sense especially after switching away from it. Likewise some people enjoy the simplicity of iOS. Ultimately just depends what kind of user you are. But I do think that the hardware is comparing apples to apples at this point. Just depends what you like! But I suggest taking the jump from iOS to android and trying it. I don't think I'll be getting an iPhone again any time soon!

I really like the m8. I was using a note 3 a good bit, but kept on falling back to the iPhone even though the two phones couldn't be any more different.
I liked the screen and great battery life on the samsung, but the device on a whole user experience level never hit that high note of polished software and polished hardware. Don't get me wrong, spec wise the note is great. But like apple has been saying for a long time, the marriage between hardware and software is really important and it matters to me. Samsung software works, but it's ugly to look at. Combine that with a plastic phone and there leaves a lot to be desired.
Which brings me to the m8, which to me, is really the only phone I have used that can be directly compared to and compete with the iPhone. I happen to like htc's sense because it is flat, consistent and useful without trying to simply pack in useless features. This combined with the design of the phone make it truly enjoyable to use. The things that raise the m8 above the latest iPhone for me are the screen quality and size, and the battery life. So far I have had battery life comparable to the note 3. My standard for assessing battery life are simple: if I need to, or want to use the phone heavily throughout the day - does it last? Or do I need to plug in at some point during the day? The note 3 and the m8 pass this test. I can use the phone as much as I want at work and after work and will only need to plug in at night. The iPhone can not do this. It needs to be plugged in during my commute to make it through the evening. To be fair, it does charge quickly and it is usually not an issue, but I would prefer to be completely untethered throughout the day because everyone knows there are days that take you away from chargers completely.
Anyway that's my long rant of why I like the m8 more than my beloved iPhone. If apple puts out a bigger screen around 5 inches and increases the battery life to match other flagship like the m8 and note 3, I might buy another iPhone. Until September or so when they do their next reveal, I'm set on the m8.

Honetly, Im considering a switch again Im just bored (again) with Apple. I jailbreak everything but its still the same boring IOS. I will miss imessage though.
Im on the fence between the M8 Nexus 5 or the SG5. I just dont know which way to go

iMessage makes it really hard for me to get off the apple ecosystem. There's no way I could ever convince my buddies to use whatsapp or hangouts etc. I'm really loving this M8 though lol.
same here. I remember it taking a few days for my number to switch from IOS to android
I'm leaving the iPhone 5 for the M8. Had a couple droids before; the most recent being the galaxy 1. It left a bad taste in my mouth with it's toyish feel, and the back button that liked to activate all by itself. I switched from it to a 4s and really liked it for a while. Jailbroke both the 4s and the 5, but it still didn't really feel the same as a rooted droid. That and always having to wait for jailbreak to come out for various IOS versions.
Now I gotta get back up to speed on what all is involved in rooting this thing. Back on the galaxy it was super 1 click, clockwork, don't remember if there was anything else; been a while!
I came from so many androids from droid x to bionic galaxy s4 to htc one I switched to iPhone an not looking back yeah you can root android and customize them but development is old nothing really fresh same stuff with different tweaks ..not going back I seen the htc M8 hands on yes it's good but everyone has there opinions

I switched from a 4s to the One m7, and just upgraded to the m8. Best decision for me. As said before, even jailbroken, iOS just got boring to me. I tried a few ROMS on for size on the m7, before settling on the ViperONE, which added a bunch of new functionality to a Sense based ROM. Made the phone great in my opinion, and I eagerly await to see what the Viper Team comes up with for the m8.
If you like to tweak and play around with new ROMS, then android is where you want to be. If that is not a big deal for you then iOS will probably suit you well.

I still have my iPhone 5s, but I can tell you that every time I try to use it for any length of time, the small screen makes me want to ragequit life. The phone is nice overall and the camera is a benchmark for quality and speed, but I just can't stand using a phone screen that small anymore. It's literally my only real beef besides the lack of customizability.
I have an M8 now and I have 5 other Android phones and I can tell you that the M8 is a very nice device. The speed and fluidity are unparalleled and the camera is just as fast. I like all the camera features. It may not take pictures that look as good as the iPhone, but at least I can set a different SMS app as default or the look of my launcher, etc. I also actually like Blinkfeed. I use it to keep up with Twitter/Facebook, etc. Great overall device. It's too bad that it will be overshadowed by the GS5 when it launches.

Agreed I have an iPhone 5s and boot it up from time to time and I simply cannot use it for more then 5 minutes. The screen is so tiny I wondered how I used iPhone in the first place. It really feels like a toy. The only thing I could do with an iPhone is make calls due to screen size. No way you can use it for browsing, games or even typing it feels so cramped.
