[Q] CM9 App testing Help - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Does the app
Tablified Market HD Lite
work on CM9
my friend is the founder and it works on
android 3.0 devices and
CM9
he wanted to see it it would work.
Personally, i don't know how to install CM9
which the cyanaboot stuff (aka i am lazy)
so if anyone of you guys could just test it, that would be more than wonderful

Seems to be running okay on CM9.

thank you very much
he will be really happy
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anything in particular that he wants tested?

quoted from him
Mostly I just wanna see how it looks on that tablet. Anyway you can get me a screenshot? I had a feeling it would work though. Thanks!

Here you go. Only thing I'm noticing is the gray bar on the bottom of the screen. I'm sure he can fix that though.

thank you very much... i will message him

What he said
WHAT HE SAID
Hey thanks so much! This is really helpful. I am glad it's working properly. The grey bar actually had an ad on it and that is why its there. It looks like he's using an adblocker. This shouldn't be an issue in the full version though. If it's too intrusive then we might have to do something else. It looks fine on a 10" tablet though. It depends on demand.
I just tried it on my Galaxy Tab 7" running ICS and it works fine. The grey bar isn't intrusive. If you hide the categories (from the menu) then everything is spacious enough.

I didn't realize there was an ad there. It must have been showing while I wasn't looking. And I agree, it would definitely look nicer on a bigger screen, but that's what we get for buying 7 inch tablets!

[Q] How many of you are using Live Wallpapers?

I really want to use them because they are so cool, but I tried a lightning one and it just seemed to move a little laggy. Swiping, opening things, you could tell slightly it was a little slower. Not sure how drastic battery life is cut short though.
Anyone use them, or just use their own custom wallpapers? Or any other thoughts on Live Wallpapers in general?
I use them every now n then. I experience no lag at all with them on. it might just be that particular wallpaper not optimized for tablet or ICS. plus not too many out there that's HD. I rather use a highbdefinition wallpaper that showcases the Primes great display and colors. There are some really good live wallpapers out there though. They don't really drain the battery like people like to assume. Some are made better than others.
Some great ones are; Digital Hive(free), SunRise(free), Bubbles, Christmas HD, Season Zen(free), and Touch Ripples(free). Those all work n look great on the Prime with no lag. All this live wallpaper talk makes me wanna apply one now..lol
I've been using black hole that came with ICS. It works great. I use the ones that came with the system because their made for ICS. Doesnt effect the speed or scrolling.
I have been using the water/whale paper pre loaded. Works fine while indicating the battery level. Haven't noticed any lag or other issues.
.
I try them on occasion too, and then switch away when bored to something like Windows Vista Wallpapers (and Win7, the dramatic Landscape stuff) They are all out there, modified for the Primes resolution
I just tried Black hole because of the other post, and I like it much more than I thought I would. We will see, by end of day I will be looking for something else, LOL!
Anyone try the "semi-live" Asus "Day Scene"? Changes with time of day, so it's really just 4-5 static WP's. Nice, but the "dusk " one s horrible. Looks like someone peed on the landscape, LOL!
Installed the Skyrim live wallpaper, looks and feels pretty smooth.
Guess you have to like the game though.
Digital Hive is awesome...When you're not doing anything on the desktop, it's pretty passive, but during touch actions, it's cool as hell.

is yours working on ICS? it doesn't seem to move anymore on the preview screen. Before I had it animating the whole time.

I have never had it animated without a touch action...it wigs out when you first apply the wallpaper; every hex spins until you touch each of them.

nah, the whole wallpaper animated without even touching it once applied. you are talking about the blue honeycomb digital hive, right?

That's what I'm saying above. When first applied, it animated, but if you touch each hex, they won't animate again unless you're touching them.

Well, it doesn't seem to animate at all in ICS. Just a static image.
That's how the free one works for me. The paid version worked ok but not enough for me to keep it so I got a refund

I already miss honeycomb..

I got my Transformer Prime earlier today (about 2:00pm to be exact) and I've been screwing with it all day. I love the way it feels and it made me very happy. The whole day I had also been postponing the update...
but I did it. I already miss the looks and feel that honeycomb offered. Yes, the ICS update may bring out the hardware a little more, but why did they "downgrade" some of the niceness of the GUI? The thing I liked about HC was that it felt different. It was a unique tablet OS that wasn't like anything else. Now that it has ICS, it feels like a bigger version of the ICS phone version. Long pressing home screens no longer brings up that convenient, pretty menu, but now just asks for the wallpaper location. The app drawer is no longer transparent and doesn't have that "fade" animation anymore, which I really liked. The home screens now have an unnecessary "dot counter" at the top and the default clock isn't the pretty blue one that I liked anymore. I feel like my first experience with the tablet is now history.
To top it off, the camera feels uglier and takes longer to snap photos. The flash is also messed up, because now when I take photos with the flash they are extremely bright and too white. Before, they would simply be brightened up a little bit.
I know some of this stuff can be fixed with app installs and stuff, but I really loved honeycomb and now I feel like the tablet isn't the same.
I agree whole-heartedly. I never expected to be saying it because I had been convinced by all the hype of how awesome ICS would be. Unfortunately, now that I've updated, I'm realizing that its no upgrade- lots of games/apps no longer work and the UI is only a shadow of its former self (see previous post). Hopefully someone will find a way to get these features to us, before we have to seek the next tablet.
SCOTT
I'm just hoping when the bootloader gets unlocked that someone makes an optimized honeycomb ROM. I know I'll be installing that for sure..
I think Asus rushed ICS on to the Prime. All the lock ups, freezes etc. Other than that I'm a fan of ICS. Honeycomb is an eyesore compared to it.
Well on top of that, all of the other stock apps seem to be downgraded as well. The calendar no longer has the nice coloring that it had before, the camera is now an ugly gray gradient color and is slow to take pictures, the lock screen no longer "ripples" and doesn't have the sleek animation that it had before, the homescreens now require more distance to swipe through (which is bad for me since I like swiping the corners a lot), the settings screen is all jumbled up, the clock is ugly, the gallery is now 2D and not as "nice" as the old one...need I go on?
ICS is such a downgrade for me. As soon as that bootloader gets unlocked I'm reverting to honeycomb right away.
I find the changes to UI in Android 4.0 as the best thing Android could have done. Native apps look sleek and modern, the sci-fi'ish/TRON coloring of UI itself is perfect for the culture it represents without being a bother for regular users.
I really, really love it.
But people are different, so it's interesting to hear some still prefer Honeycomb.
I love the style of ICS as well; the light blue / gray coloring is awesome. I'm just saying I really loved the black / blue honeycomb a whole lot more. It felt so much less cluttered and it felt "cooler" to me. Now I can't go back for at least a few more weeks
IcS OS the best thing to happen to Prime. Plus it was built for it anyways. People forgetting device was supposed to originally with ICS anyways. Yeah the long press feature on-screen of HC is missed but ill be OK..lol. too many people wanted ICS. ICS did fix alot of issues and speed things up nicely. If we would still be stuck on HC everyone would be crying about it. Plus ICS is the universal version. So phone version supposed to look similar. More n more benefits of ICS will show itself as more updates come. Probably with next update due anyday now.
I know what you mean and I agree with you. ICS definitely is a step forward and it was made to unify the platform and make everything better. My point is that I loved the way honeycomb felt and this is a little less nice in my opinion. Also to be honest I feel like it's slower now..but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
EDIT: Forgot to turn on "Force GPU Rendering" in development settings. It's super smooth now..like really smooth.
I'm glad I disabled my update. I was seeing all the problems people were having with updating to ICS. I think I'll wait until the bootloader is unlocked and we have a working CWM so I can do a nandroid backup before flashing any upgrades.
I'm so glad I've seen this, I thought I was the only one who preferred honeycomb on the prime.
Ics on my sensation = pure awesomeness
ics on my prime = just not as cool

I like it better (ICS) but where did Riptide go?
All I know is that when I pick up my original Transformer and use it for a few minutes, I'm missing the Prime pretty immediately--and ICS is one of the reasons. I just don't like Honeycomb...

I bet the Asus engineers scrambling to figure out the ICS lockup issue and hundreds of Primes owners with $500 paperweights would disagree with this.
Is it possible some of those pretty things in Honeycomb were Asus additions and with them trying to rush ICS out they didn't add those things? I agree, that I thought Honeycomb felt much more refined. I don't dislike ICS though.

Yup, ditto.
Just experienced my first lockup/freeze on ICS in the car today. Was testing the IPS+ brightness boost and when I turned it on, the device became unresponsive and rebooted after a few seconds.
There had better be a firmware update quickly, or the unlocked bootloader at least.
EDIT: The camera also now has a flash issue. If you use the flash to take a picture up close to something, the flash will make the picture extremely bright instead of just illuminating the photo; honeycomb did not have this issue. Former macro shots now look like flashbangs.
The only thing that sucks in ICS versus HC, at least in my opinion, is the garbage Gallery app in ICS. In HC, the folders were alphabetically ordered, and you could toggle between viewing only photos or videos. In ICS, the folders a completely random mess that cannot be properly ordered, and the video/photos toggle is gone. This is more on Google than Asus, as the gallery is equally crappy in ICS on my Galaxy Nexus, but it's annoying nonetheless.

Exactly. I know ICS is a great step forward, but it destroyed most of what I liked about honeycomb in the first place.
EDIT: Second lockup just occurred a little while ago while I was looking for an app on the Market. Ugh..
EDIT 2: Another lockup, literally 10 minutes after I turned my device on in the morning..went to select the camera from the lockscreen and bam. THEN, while it was rebooting, it locked up DURING THE BOOT and went back to the splash screen. This is kinda messed up.
Just had two lockups in a row within a 20 minute period. One in the music player, the other in the market (that makes two or three lockups I've had in the market alone so far).
I know everyone is having this issue but jeez..it's happening so frequently.
EDIT: Another lockup by loading up Barcode Scanner for the first time. Yes, I'm kinda using this thread as a way to keep track of my lockups, but maybe it'll help somehow.

Does anyone else not care for ICS?

I have tried it out but I am not thrilled by it. I still need my Go Launcher and still like MIUI a little more. I have been using a Galaxy Nexus not the ROMs here (although I have tried them). Am I safe in assuming the on screen buttons (home, back, and whatever the other one is) wont be on the GS2 since we have actually buttons? I love the ICS theme but maybe since we have had the theme for so long already it just seems old already. How do you guys feel?
Does it have anything to do with the AT&T SGS2?

Onscreen buttons won't be necessary when we get kernel source - they're a temporary workaround for our touchkeys not working right on I9100 leaked kernels.
So far, I haven't been impressed with the ICS leaks for the I9100. A little bit of kernel tuning might fix that, not sure yet.
CM9 is quite slick on the Tab 10.1 - so a properly working non-Touchwizz ICS port should be good. The problem is that Samsung's anti-developer attitude makes me doubt if CM9 will ever be properly polished on the GS2. There's just too much of a minefield of undocumented Samsungisms throughout the device.
I was not in a rush at all to get ICS. I saw Entropy's thread with working firmware and the in call audio fix so I though I would check it out. Turns out I love it. I think its a huge improvement. G+ is a nicer experience and Gmail has a new look. Having Chrome as the default browser is pretty nice with the option to view as desktop ..and since flashing CM9 I've noticed incorrectly spelled words get a red line under them for easy spell check/fix.. I am absolutely loving it. I can't seem to pull myself away from ICS now

I don't even want it.....at all. AOSP used to be clean......nothing......minimal. Now its a iPhone. A whole designated launcher with integrated everything ......its Touchwiz.....its Motoblur.....its....Sense. The official version we will see will be a themed settings menu and a new version number.....I guess its cool the wifi icon and battery will be blue.....there are a couple of things that make it alright in its function. One thing is for sure is that it makes the device it was designed around lag like a son of a *****....shutters like a frozen homeless hooker.
Maybe a cooked version comes out sweet.....Entropy will make a nice sweet kernel I am sure.....but official **** and straight AOSP .....I will be fine without it.

You guys do realize you can use any launcher you want right? I've used ADW and Nova on my i9100. Both work great...
ICS Fixed the Settings menu layout. In GB there was way too many things. ICS cleaned them up. I would say it's more MIUI then iPhone.
And EVERY iteration of Android AOSP has come with a new theme. Google keeps it fresh every time. This time was dark with lots of bright blue. Next will be Light with lots of... who knows, orange, maybe...
You can theme it how you like, you can still run what ever launcher you want. Or you can go back to GingerBread... All I can say is that for me it has fixed all my little complaints, if I had them.
I have ICS running on my captivate right now. I do like the new UI, but I have to agree that with all the ICS themes out there, I am not excited by the look. It does seem old already. At this point I'm on the fence. There have been some awesome roms come out recently in the development section so I can wait. Truth be told I am rocking the black and chrome theme on checkrom right now and loving it. More my style

I like it....but my iScrewed works way to good for my purposes. No issues. When all is worked out i will use cm9 though. I keep my eyes on the thread over there.
Waiting for Kernel source before I make my decision, but probably going to jump when that happens.

FWIW, I am running [ROM] [CDMA] AOSP ICS / CM9 - BUILD7 [03/04] from http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11697-rom-cdma-aosp-ics-cm9-build7-0304/ on my 7" Sprint Galaxy Tab, and I really like it, even these "extra" onscreen buttons have added value in the tab world.
But I can say for sure that I don't want ICS on my phone yet (regardless of the business with the touchkeys)...
ICS is cool and all. But I don't really care for work arounds. I want my soft key buttons to work.

Exactly. Its got its hooks in about 80-90% of the firmware (just like Sense does).
As for liking ICS, remember the Froyo days? We had a lot of well working smooth roms and made Froyo enjoyable, then Gingerbread came out which seemed more like a theme than anything. But it was under the hood that made a lot of differences. The same is true for ICS, except the "theme" is a lot better, cleaner and intuitive. The under the hood stuff seems like a bigger leap then Froyo to GB was.
So am I excited, yeah. Theming can be done on any phone/rom so Im not worried about that, but where they placed things from older versions is much welcomed. Its the underneath part that Im mostly excited about.

Red.....I agree with everything you said. I do understand the depths of Touchwiz also.....I won't whine though as I am running a nicely themed version right now.
I also am right there with you with the old 2.1 roms ....those are what made me love android and spend the first year I was a member here reading until 4 in the morning. I am OK with the direction the ICS OS is going.....its just the look and what is now considered AOSP that is hard for me to digest. I realize that it is just a canvas but I am old school...every ROM I download, I pull apart change what I want, theme it....some times build my own custom theme....so I am not worried about the look over the long haul.
What I can say is that I was running ICS on my HD2 before the nexus was even released....it was fun at first....but the new-ness rubs off real quick....somethings I loved, some I hated......None of those things are something that I feel I am missing out on. Hey to each their own....my brother in-law is rubbing his nexus in my face every chance he gets.....and refuses to believe, that I don't believe, his phone is the greatest ever. But I don't......I just don't think its the same android....its cool and sooner or later we are all getting it whether we want it or not.
The one thing I am going to miss, is taking my brand new bloated phone, and flashing a sweet. ....squeaky clean AOSP ROM and after it booted seeing that sweet minimal dock and nothing else......now after a flash the first thing I have to do is get that hideous launcher with their oversized gimmicky icons off?????.....AOSP just aint what it used to be. I think I am just jaded that they took away a little piece of my Zen man...

[Q] Making the black status bar hide?

I'm so frustrated, ive had the prime for over a month and love 99% of it EXCEPT the fact that the black bar at the bottom is constantly there. The buttons dim, but the bar does not. 500$ for a 10.1 screen, and you cannot actually use all 10.1? Irritating! I have the galaxy nexus phone which is also on ics and while watching videos, the bar disappears, and when you touch in that area it returns. Why in the world is this like this with the prime...not the iPad? And how is there not a way to make this happen without a hack (which i don't have a clue about) and possibly screwing up the tab? An inch may not seem like much but to me it is. Why promote a 10.1 screen when you cannot use all 10.1 inches? I should feel like im watchin all videos in "widescreen" on a 10.1 inch screen!
So is there a fix for this? Ive tried every media player, none do it!

You are not able to do it stock inside of android. There's a mod over in the Xoom forum that allows you to toggle it via an installed "app." There is probably a way to port it over to the Transformer Prime (especially since the mod was for the Team EOS rom on the Xoom, and that was just announced for this device today).
This is a racist thread.

This is the link to the thread about the mod for the XOOM. Don't flash this on your device obviously. But if you can find someone else who would be able to modify for the Prime, or message the OP for that thread, then we could get it to work on here. If not, there's no way to remove the navigation bar with a simple app like we could in Honeycomb. This method requires modifying the system to stop the process for the bar and then start it again when you open the apk.

1 inch? You do have a problem.
Actually the home bar is about 8mm wide which comes out to .3 inches so you actually have 9.8 inches of viewing area.
Damn, some people complain about the smallest things.
What is the taskbar activity called?
Maybe i can write a tasker profile for it

Well, when you pay $500 for a 10.1 inch tablet and you cannot view the entire screen....it is a big deal, inch or not. The IPAD doesn't do that, my galaxy nexus's status bar hides when video is playing and all you have to do is touch at the bottom and it pops up. Not sure why I would want t "widescreen" experience on a 10.1 inch screen.
The iPad does not do that because it has a physical home button, so if you would like that feel free to buy one. If you are looking to remove it, run AOKP ROM. It allows you to use the power menu to toggle the taskbar on and off, thus allowing you to use the full screen.

Open WebOS, anyone interested?

Hi there, it's me again!
After being away for quite some time due to a lot of issues with my netbook, and being busy with school, I recently checked the progress on the Flyer. As expected, Dexter did an excellent job already on Jelly Bean.
I tried the ROM, and I gotta say I'm quite satisfied with it. FWIW, I am thinking about getting the 3.0 kernel from the DHD to run on the Flyer. But, I have another project I'm thinking about which sounds more interesting.
So, is anyone interested in Open WebOS on the HTC Flyer? I am considering to give it a try this week, but only if there is some potential interest from the community. It would pretty much be an effort where I try to combine various challenges: getting WebOS to boot, and getting the Raspberry Pi to compile Android kernels, since my netbook does a horrible job at this.
Please report if it sounds interesting for you, and if I get positive answers, I'll do some research on the structure of OWOS.
Although WebOS seems nice I'd rather see you beat the crap out of JB and try to get it fully working until you say "I can't take this any further".

I'm not sure, I actually think JB has 1 major dev working on it. Sometimes it's better to have multiple, good, mostly stable options too chose from than 1 completely perfect one.
That aside, I don't use bluetooth headset so some people who do really want the devs to pool their work into that.
I'm all for web os though. And dual boot (don't push yourself ) would be awesome.

I am using the latest JB ROM atm., and I'm wondering (since I haven't followed the development the last 2 months): what is really broken atm? Aside from bluetooth.
Mine VM with Ubunto is stil there for u if u decide to give Flyer some more of your time. Am I interested? I am interested in Flyer with as much hardware working posible; working BT for voice calls, music and movei playback. As long as those work well i dont care even if it is Win 3.11EE if it runs nice and smooth. However Geting camera and hw movie playback suport on JB would be very nice and would get the ROM to TOP level. U cracked those nuts on ICS; any way u give it a try on JB?
Welcome Back CHAOS I agree with Antis (even though I don't really Know the advantage of WebOs) i was hoping that You could do something like get the front camera working for Skype

No HW playback support, no cammera and videorecorde, some flickering i belive,... rest is nearlly all there! So close to top BUT BT is FIXED (no report if for calls as well but rest been tested and reported 100% working BT functionalities)
I am not sure dual boot would be neat but i know thats asking alot. but like every one else don't matter to me if it JB OR ICS as long as we can get a nice and smooth working rom that has BT good HW for movies ect and cameras working i will be as happy as a puppy with to peckers ....

Hardware Acceleration for video playback. WebOS would be interesting.

@Chaos-X u been asked for Kernel source on :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1724246&page=54
i belive to help with video decoding fix wich is missing in latest JB... U think u can help with this?
I personally would prefer a fully working JB ROM (we're sooooo close now), but WebOS would be a cool OS to fiddle with.

-Cant change CPU clock
-Some bugs with graphics
-External SD on AOKP is bad
-Boot animation
If you help him do it, it will be best ROM. Please.
yes, or maybe no...
while I'm a huge fan of webOS and would love to see it on the flyer I think your time may be better utilized by teaming with Dexter to finish ironing out the wrinkles in his JB build first, then perhaps a dual-boot option?

+1
I loved web os on my palm pre, just didn't like the hardware. I would love to have it on my view. Especially if we could dual boot it.

Slide out keyboard had very small keys and the slider mechanism was very poor. Screen was also very small compared to today's phones. The only nice thing was wireless charging. That was awesome.
WebOS ran very well on it though.
