Black Screen wont turn on but my computer detects it - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

My friend that I bought the Asus prime for, asked me if I could take a look at his prime.
Here is the screnario:
Listening to radio station app, screen went to sleep while the radio was still playing and he tried holding the power button down and nothing worked to reboot or wake up the prime. The Prime was left playing to drain down the battery. It has all its recent updates (.15), not rooted, and not unlocked. When I looked at it, I charged it up, I can see the light and turned green to full battery status. I can feel the prime vibrate as I hold the power button, I tried volume + power hold, tried the hard reset with the paper clip hearing the click next to the sd card slot holding it for 10-30 seconds. The laptop can see the folder in the prime as i hold the power button and also disconnects when i power down. ordered 12-28 from best buy so the return window has expired and its a BC0K serial number.
Anybody find a solution with a black screen prime that just vibrates and can be seen on the laptop before I send it for an RMA?

Was there any shock to the device? A small bump or anything, it sounds like the ribbon cable for the screen has become disconnected, there are some reports of this on the forums.

This + have you went into recovery?

maybe try draining the battery again then charging up. ive seen a few post issue like this. if screen connection didn't break, then letting it drain again and charging up might fix it. good luck!

Actually, the prime was already drained maybe a total of 3 times. There was no shock to the device as it was working with the radio app on and when it was being listened to while it was on the bed, the screen went into sleep and could not wake up no matter what button was being pushed so the prime was left to drain its battery. My friend didnt know how to reboot, so he decided to left the battery to drain. Could the radio playing + sleep of death + battery drainage caused the permanent screen sleep? Too bad I dont have the micro hdmi connector to see if i can isolate the screen as the problem.

yup the micro hdmi would help a lot probably. But if your PC recognizes it I suggest you back up data that you need then try to do a blind factory reset so you can get rid of any non oem app installed including that radio app if any of them is whats causing the screen not to turn on.
1. Hold volume down then press and hold power.
2. When you feel it vibrate (this could take up to 10 seconds if the tablet was already on) wait another 5 seconds and then release both buttons.
3. After you release wait another 5 seconds (dont wait too long here or it will reboot on its own if you dont select anything after about 10 seconds) then press volume down 1 time and volume up 2 times.
4. The tablet will factory wipe and after another 10 seconds it will reboot.
If the tablet still wont turn on then you got another issue and that isnt caused by the radio app or any other app.

Didnt work. It just vibrated and the screened stayed black... Im wrapping this puppy up and bringing shipping it to the repair center. Thanks anyways.

Vibrates when power button is held but wont turn on
My Prime also has the basic problem. I use it daily for about 3 to 4 hours, reading replying to e-mails and web browsing. While I was reading, the volume started going up on its own and I noticed that even after I put in standby mode, the battery discharged so I shut it down completely.
After that I could not turn it on. When I hold down the power button it vibrates bit the screen does not come on even after I fully charged till the led turns green.

Had to RMA back to Asus for them to fix the display and it took about a week. Warranty covered it, but if you do RMA ask them to ship you a shipping label. You shouldnt have to pay for shipping it to them for a manufacturer defect. And take pics and videos of the tablet and packing for your safety. They just need the tablet and nothing else. Good luck

Asus is F-ing with my endorphines...
I've had my TF201 since March 30th. Been using it for 1 week and it suddenly went dead (nothing on the screen, no vibration if I held the power button down). Tried everything I could find on the forums, it didn't work so I sent it to repairs (not immediately, cuz I had more important stuff to do). They kept it for almost 3 weeks, got it back this last Monday (May 21st) and... it died out on me again yesterday night (after just 3 days of use, congratulations ASUS technicians!). I was simply browsing and I clicked on the icon to increase the luminosity to the maximum supported (IPS+, I was charging it at the time) and the screen suddently went black. Like "nothing visible on it" black.
After that, I tried numerous times to reset it (including the volume+power down, according to the indications in this thread) - all I could get from it was the vibration as if it starts. Nothing else popping up on the screen. I plugged it this morning into my computer and it got somehow recognized, cuz my W7 tried installing drivers for it (even tho it had recognized the tablet again after it came from repairs and I already had drivers for it installed) but failed with the error "APX - no driver found".
I've had enough. Two months already and only one week and half of actual use. It's pathetic, ASUS needs to be taught a lesson, so I'm calling Consumer Protection in my country and the European Consumer Protection Comission. All the forums that I've surfed are filled with reports of broken units and ASUS will just tell you "if you have a valid warranty we'll repair it for free". I DON'T ****ING NEED regular repairs every 2 weeks!!! I need a functional tablet that I can use or give me my money back!
I'll post the results of my tribulations here...

I had a user that suffered the blank screen.
When you think it's presumably on. Try a paperclip to the reset hole on the left side. His came back up at that point and hasn't done it again since.
Never had this happen on mine.

[Q] Power light going *blink* *blink* *LongPause* (Archos 101)

I'm at a bit of a loss here..
Instead of powering on, the battery light goes *blink* *blink* *LongPause* ..
I have a (3 day old) Archos 101 and updated to the most recent software when it I first powered up the device. I probably drained my battery yesterday when I put it in the night stand drawer while Aldiko was trying to import a fresh ePub file..
When I turned it on this morning, it blinked once and stopped. When I plugged in the charger (figuring the battery was drained) the "blink blink longpause" started. Long pressing the power button stops the blinking. If the power is connected, the power light burns, so I figure its charging. If its not on power, the power light doesnt burn. I tried the "Hold + while powering up" to boot into recovery but that doesnt change anything.
The Archos FAQ said something about charging the battery, but its been charging for about 9 hours now and the device still wont turn on.. (Green light still burns continuously while charging, not when disconnected) My XDA forums search didnt turn up any results..
Anyone got a clue what this means, what I can do or whatever? Tnx
Maybe the screen froze. Try resetting it by holding down the power button for ten seconds or so. If you're charging it at the same time, it should boot right back up after the reset is complete.
Sent from my A32
Yes, I tried that :/ That's what I meant by long pressing the power button. It changes the blinking pattern to just the burning power led..
Thanks for the tip though!
Sent from my HTC Magic using XDA App
Give it another shot. Disconnect the plug. Hold down the power button for a little over 10 seconds. I would do like 15 in my head. Wait a few seconds after that and press the power button quickly once. If you get the steady green light just wait. Dont keep pressing it. You should eventually see the Archos splashscreen. I have had this happen on several occassions when the system has been idle for a while with the screen off. Hope it works.
Ok; I did that.
Except that when I push the power button that last time to have it boot up; the power light just flashes once. I didnt touch it to be sure and it doesnt start.
When I plugged in the power supply after that, the *blink blink longpause* resumed.
When I hold down the power btn now, it reverts to continuous burning green power led.
Its been charging for more than 24 hours now.
This sounds like what happened to mine. it happened after about 3 days, too. I finally got my replacement the Tuesday before Christmas.
If you get it powered up, get your stuff off & clean up your personal info (something I wasn't able to do.
From my post on AchosFans Forum:
For several days my Archos wouldn't take a charge. I didn't think anything about it the first day...stuff happens. After using it the next time, not really thinking there was a problem I plugged it in (and of course it turned itself on again). So this morning it only had 8%. I messed around a few minutes before work resetting it & such - checked setting>about>battery stats and it said "charging" and 0% battery. When I came home this evening it still said "charging" & 0% battery. It then shut down (with a not-normal screen flicker) the first time I unplugged it (hoping to cycle it or get lucky) and it is now a brick. When I plug it in now the charging light did a fast-double-blink and it it remained dead.
I called Archos & they told me to send it back. She didn't ask for much info before telling me to send it, which I took to mean that it is a known issue.
Same happened to me
The same has happened to me after the archos 101 drained its battery fully. I think the firmware has a flaw where it lets the archos drain its battery too far. In that state, hooking it up to the charger wont make it start charging all the time.
I had the blink-blink-blink problem also, even after it had been on the charger for hours. Finally it started working (and charging! )again after lots of 15-second Powerbutton presses, some in combination with Volume Up or Volume Down, and some with and some without the charger connected. Suddenly it turned on (showing 0% charge in the Settings, Information panel indicating it had fully drained and hadn't been charging in the previous hours) . I advice you to keep trying pressing the Power button 15 seconds with the charger connected, and experiment with pressing it in combination with the volume button, followed by a short Power press to boor the Archos.
In the mean time (till a new firmware comes), i make a habit of not fully draining the Archos (i will install Tasker to let it shutdown at 10%) , and checking if the green led comes on after plugging in the charger. Only when the green led is on, it's really charging. And it should start blinking after a few hours to indicate its full.
My wife has a chinese android iPad clone (a Flytouch II) and guess what? It's also picky at charging and turning on.
The Gravity reply had me scared (tnx though) but I'm glad to report that pwhooftman's post helped!
I plugged it in, put a movie on and started trying to reset/start it. It happened reasonably quickly after that.. I pressed the power button while it was off power, the power led flashed once as before. I plugged in the power. The green light lighted up. I pushed the power and + for 15 seconds, and pressed the power button once shortly. Unlike the other times, the blinking pattern didnt start and the green light kept burning. Hopeful, I put it down and waited - as the FAQ said it would start when it d charged more. Finally after a while, I pressed the power button and it booted. Not exactly exact science, but Im just happy that it works again :/
I guess the "blink blink longpause" means something like "I know I've got power but I cant seem to load my battery" - Archos should have this info in their manuals.
Thanks guys

Nice to know I can scare people...and it isn't Halloween!
I tried everything I could think of to get it to take a charge, with no luck. The problem I had with mine was the times it wouldn't take a charge BEFORE I had drained it - that is why it got drained in the first place.
I hope it was only mine!
He s at it again. Drained to 3% and now it wont charge anymore. *sigh*
except he wont even do the blinking anymore now.
Seems to be a fairly common issue with these tablets :/
Same thing was happening to me too. Dunno if this will work for people, but here is how I fixed mine.
Hold your finger on the power button for 10 seconds while the blinky light is on. This should stop the light completely.
Then plug the charger in. This gave me a continuous light rather than a blinky light. Leave it like that for a couple of hours and then try powering it on again.
Hope this works for others.
Had this happen to me once so far. Seems to have to do with it going into a sleep state or something. If I leave it for long and the screen turns off. Sometimes it won't come back up without first holding down the power to shut it down (even though I can't see anything on the screen) and then waiting to boot back up. I had to plug it in, get the steady light and then power on and it worked.
OK, I know this sounds weird...
But what's the temperature of the A101 like?
I had an identical problem a short while ago, and a forum post suggested that the tablet could be too cold. I thought it was a total shot in the dark, but I wrapped the Archos in a quilt for a few minutes, and amazingly enough, it popped back into life with the charger plugged in, and has been pretty fine since then.
To be fair, it could be one of three things: (i) temperature is the issue, (ii) coincidence, (iii) a bad connection in the pins/socket of the adapter input on the Archos 101 which just needs 'jiggling.'
I have also noticed that if I charge the Archos while it is in standby, I never get more than 92-94% battery. If I shut it down, plug in, then shut it down again when it restarts on power supply insertion, I can usually get 98% battery, at the least, sometimes 100% battery.
I agree, we shouldn't have 'quirky' devices, or have to wait for firmware to fix them, but other device makers have had similar problems in the past with battery reporting, until appropriate firmware fixes.
it happened to me last night frustrated the heck out of me couldn't get it to turn on no matter what i did, so i took it back to pc world and the guy said
"what would you like to do, out of curiosity do you like it?" I replied no and he said "then ill refund you"
i then paid the extra on a galaxy tab and not looking back the archos was a complete pile of sh!te! I almost cried when i turned it on and spent the next two months convincing myself i actually liked it.
its woefully made, cheap and tacky, screen is pathetic and the memory appalling.
i know its cheaper than tab and iphone but for 270 it should still be fit for purpose and this is not it's the worst gadget ive ever owned by a long long shot, i didn't even show it off at work because i was so embarrassed at how bad it was.

So, how did the story end?!? Did it survive?
Ok...
I kid you not, i've tried warming the archos up with a hot water bottle for several seconds and that did the trick appearently...

HERE is the FIX ! I am on my second A-70/250 - my wife has the 8gb version, and I thought the 250gb one was simply defective - evidently, this IS a known issue, but it can be fixed, and I sent back my other one without reason
Anyways, no more pity party for me, here is the fix - if you have the flashy-power light dealio going on, plug your Archos into the power adapter, plug the adapter into the wall, and plug in the USB CABLE to the Archos, and to your PC - the Archos WILL pwoer up, when it does, it asks if you wish to mount the USB to copy files, select, "YES" and let it sit and charge ! Now - the REASON it does this is VERY simple, and it kills me to admit that I was killing my tablet all by myself ! Disable the "never off" screen thingy - set it for 10 minutes - (settings - display - screen timeout). Go into your power settings as well - (settings - power management) and make sure there is a checkmark in the deep sleep area ! THAT IS IT ! You are fixed ! Dang... I REALLY wish I would have found all this out before I returned the other one - I had SO much stuff loaded on it ! GAH !! - SenKat !
I got the same problem yesterday, it kept blink blink and could not turn on. After 5 hour charging, I warmed it up by hair dryer and suddenly it's on. Crazy amazing! Hahahahahuahuahuahua.
Temperature is main problem. Try with your hair dryer!!! Heheheheheh
Its sounds unbelievable, but low temperatures are indeed a cause.

Anyone had Issues with the Display not Turning On?

I found a couple posts about this but people seemed to just return or RMA it. Thought maybe my experience might help others and was curious if anyone else has this problem.
A few times I have picked up the Prime and hit the power button and the display would not come on. If I plugged it in I would see the green light on the power button come on and go off when unplugged. It appeared to still be attached to the WIFI. If I held the button down it would buzz, but nothing else.
I found out that if I held the button down, waited for it to buzz then continued to hold it down for another 30 secs or so (seems like it takes forever) the Prime would then reboot and I would get the Eee Pad boot screen.
I have been storing my Prime in the box to keep it clear of kids and cats until I get a case. My wife ended up picking up this cheap case from Walmart which used rubber bands around the corners, and this triggered the problem by holding down the volume up button. I have not been able to reliably reproduce it, but it seems like holding down the volume button (or combo of power and volume button) puts the device in some diagnostic mode or something that shuts off the screen.
The natural tendency to release the power button immediately after the buzz while trying to reset made the device seem like it was broken. Luckily I figured out how to start it back up so I did not return it or RMA; however I wonder how many others experienced this problem.
This appears to be a software problem and not a hardware issue. I have not had this happen since I started being cautious about the volume buttons, but have not tried to reproduce on the last firmware update.
I have had no other issues with the Prime. It runs great, WIFI works for me and I could care less about the GPS issue. However, this display thing has scared me a handful of times until I figure out how to reset it.
Anyone else have this kind of issue? I was going to wait for ICS and then see if I could reproduce it before calling ASUS, but it has not been crippling especially once I figured out that when all else failed just hold down the power button until the screen came back on.
I've had this problem as well, three or four times so far. Actually, it happened to me on the first full day I had mine, and was really freaking me out. I've been using the pinhole reboot button to get it working, but it sounds like you were more patient with the power button than I was.
I can't replicate it either, exactly, but I've noticed that it's only happened after extended periods (6+ hours) of inactivity without charging. I also looked at my battery usage last night, and saw that my device constantly is awake; maybe somethint's happening when it tries to sleep?
Anyway, I feel the same way you do - I'm waiting for it to happen on 4.0(.3?) before I really worry.
I've had this happen twice. held down the power button to reboot. I can't reproduce it either, but I don't have any problem with the device sleeping. I'm at 50 hours of uptime now (15 on current charge) and have not run into it. Mildly glad to see its not just me though.

I've had the same exact problem andthe funny thing is I also have a case from Walmart with the rubber bands. Is yours the case logic? Since reading this post, I've removed the upper left band. I wish my case would ship already!
guys if you're familiar with transformer 1 and hacking\custom ROM tegra devices power + vol up = apx mode kind of download mode blank screen, nothing wrong with the device just working like it should. now just a blank screen with sound when u plug in could be defective screen has happened to me
Awesome to know this is expected behavior.
I didn't have the original transformer, and googling has just led me to people who can/can't get into the mode, so I'll ask here: what exactly is apx mode? I get what it's for, sort of, but what is it?
also happened to me while it was in a case. maybe the power button was pressed too long or something...
this happened to me yesterday, except the screen is still off....tried everything mentioned and it wouldnt turn back on, its fully charged...i get no buuz sound or anything...
LOL, I was just searching for a thread like this.
Mine has been working flawless for the last 4 days. This morning, would not turn on. I tried every combo and button push I could think of.
No LED charging lights, nada.
I finally reverted to the paper clip in the reset hole. Booted right up.
Don't know what the issue is.
reset button wont even work for me...
Yes It happend to me yesterday twice... i think if we leave it for an extended period without out charge , the screen is getting locked somehow... both the times i have held the power button till the buzz.. then it rebooted....
Same behavior here, was fully charged in the Morning, and plugged in, when i got home Both LED's (Dock and Tab) were green but the Screen won't turn on, pressing the Power button for 10sec rebooted the device, maybe some kind of power saving feature... hopefully it will be fixed with ICS
Okay, rockstatus90's problem seems different, but the rest of us, pceasar explained that we're likely entering APX mode, right? It's designed behavior? Now I just want to know what APX mode is, and if there's an easier way to exit than rebooting.
Happened twice for me so far.

Yes this is normal. Although most other Android devices seemed to give some sort of on screen message.
It is mentioned here as a process of rooting the original TF:
http://eeepadhacks.net/transformer-hacks/how-to-root-your-eeepad-transformer/
Basically, this is a mode that outputs to your PC and is supposed to blank your screen. You are supposed to reboot afterwards, so there is no other way out.
I have not had the problem since being sensitive about pushing volume+ and power at the same time.

Unfortunately it looks like return or rma is your solution. I would try to call Asus and see if they can troubleshoot it. Best case they can reset it for; worse case its dead.
Really wish you could pull the battery. Thats the sure fire reboot.

Prime won't turn on after 9.4.2.15-PROBLEM SOLVED!

I hope this is the right sub-forum to open this thread if not please movie it.
Half an hour ago I Got the 9.4.2.15 firmware update from asus. after the update was applied my prime asked me if I want to turn it off....I approved and the device shut down and stayed off.I tried to turn it on and nothing happened.
When I applied the update I had more then 80% of the battery.
I plugged the phone to the charger and the charger light on the power button changed from orange to green
While the Prime was charging(and after it was fully charged) I tried to do some stuf
I tried to press the on button and nothing happened and no vibration.
I tried to hold the on button for about 30 seconds and the only thing that happened is that I got a vibration(the same you get when you turn on your device).
I tried to reset the device with the reset hole near the microsd with a needle and nothing happened.
I tried holding the power button and the volume button(once the up and the other time the down) and nothing happened except the vibration after about 10 seconds.
ANY IDEAS?
*my biggest problem is I purchased the Prime from "Amazon US" and I don't leave in the us...How If I need do I use my ASUS warranty.who do I connect?
Thanks.
Try draining the battery completely then charging it back up. Then try to boot it up again. You might have a glitch or bug. Its always good after an update is applied to let it update then it reboots itself. After it loads back up,go into home screen. Then **** down device and cut back on. This will eliminate anything happening from rogue codes.

I am unable to do "Hard reset" because the device do doesn't start, after pressing the power button nothing happens the screen stays black. the onle response I get from the device is vibration(after I hold the power button for about 10-12 seconds).
I don't think that "EP201_SDUPDATE.ZI" will help because I don't have accesses to my bootloader
Did you happen to drop the device or bang it pretty hard? If so, could be a chance the connector to your display is loose and device is actually on but the screen is off. Best way to check this is to connect your prime to your t.v. thru HDMI. Then try to cut it on. If something displays on your t.v. but screen still won't cut on, then connector came loose from your display. That is the best way to check. Plus you could also operate tablet like that.
Nope,didn't drop or hit it.
Unfortunately I don't have HDMI cable that connects to the prime.
your idea is good but even without the cable I am sure it's not the problem...but lets say that it is the problem...then if the device is actually on I should be able the hear the sound it makes when I use the volume buttons and when I receive new emails...the thing is I am unable to produce any sound from the device.
I just applied my update and it didn't ask me if I wanted to power down, it did itself. Did you power down when it was starting to install?
My screen did say "power down" but I knew it would do it itself.
Maybe like doing a battery pull during a flash?

Maybe you are right and for some reason I turned the device off while it was in the middle of the update... so 5hat means as you said that I interupted the flash process...in this case the problem is the software of the device ...could I do somthing to fix it without going with it to a lab?

You might try inserting a pin or a paperclip into the reset hole next to the micro SD port.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
I decided to try and fix my prime one last time before I use the warranty. so I took a needle SMALLER one then I used the first time I tried to "Hard reset" the prime and inserted it into the hole near the microSD port....and this time I felt a "click"...I pressed for about 10 seconds and then released and the screen turned on
I immediately got the screen withe the open green robot and with a blue line under it that showed me that the update was applied....then the screen changed to the screen you get when you turn on the device(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol) and again I got a blue line showing me that the update is going on.
After the blue line went foreword to 100% it disappeared from the screen and I was left with the screen you get when you turn on the device(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol).
I have waited for about 20 minutes and nothing happened....I turned off the device with the power button and then turned it on again(this time the device responded after 1-2 seconds)...I got a vibration and the screen was on(asus symbol and tegra3 symbol). after a few seconds the screen changed to another screen( another ASUS symbol with a turning circle under it) after about 8 seconds my device was fully working all my data was present(didn't reset with the needle should have deleted everything?) and my software number was 9.4.2.15,so the update was fully applied.
I tried turning on and off the device for a few times and had no problems with it.
So basically the device is working and I have no idea what was the problem
The tip i got for everyone trying to reset the device with a needle/paper clip....YOU HAVE TO FEEL THE CLICK
that's awesome! Congrats!
These are expensive toys (in my case addiction).
Maybe it was a bad flash which can be really spooky if you're not rooted with a custom recovery.

[Q] Bricked beyond repair, one minute it was working the next minute DEAD!

Okay, so my prime was on the latest CM10.1 offered here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2053269
I had TWRP 2.5.0.0 on it as well as the corresponding GApps. I did nvflash and everything on my Prime and it was working flawlessly since the day I bought it. I have had ZERO issues and thought it would never brick.
Just a few weeks ago, I began to notice my TF201 acting VERY slow. When I say slow, I mean like opening Solid Explorer, for example, would take a long time. I didn't pay it any mind and continued on watching movies on it, reading books, browsing and just my every day normal usage. Two nights ago, I copied over some files using AirDroid and saw that I had 36% battery left. I left it charging overnight and unplugged it when I woke up. When I came home, it wouldn't turn on. I don't know if my charger is borked and somehow f*ck'd up my TF201 while it was charging, but I can't think of anything else.
I've tried the following:
-plug it in and hold power button
-leave it plugged in to charge some more
-leave it unplugged for a few days to drain and then plug it in, holding power button
-pressing and holding the power button
-holding vol up + power (10+ seconds)
-holding vol down + power (10+ seconds)
-holding reset button (10+ seconds)
-plugging into my computer
The screen just stays off. No vibration or anything. If I look at the power button, it just stays orange, steady not blinking. If I leave it unplugged it goes off. If I leave it plugged, it stays orange never green.
Is my battery done? Fried? By the charger? I have babied this tablet since I bought it. I have a $60 Gumdrop case for it. It is flawless on the outside with zero blemishes. How could this happen? Has anyone else seen this kind of brick before?
Sounds like some sort of catastrophic hardware failure. Slowness and boot failure could be perhaps explained by fried eMMC/SSD but it's strange that it doesn't power on at all. Because of the speed issues you mention that were happening, it doesn't really sound like the battery.
I hope you get it figured out -- have you tried contacting Asus or any tablet repair specialists? Surely someone might be willing to talk some debugging. I take it that it's not under warranty anymore?

It's definitely out of warranty --both the limited time and the fact it was hacked to the teeth. I'm not as upset anymore about losing that tablet. It barely had any XDA love anyway. Lol. My Xoom is at least still heavily supported by Team EOS and Steady Hawkin.
The reason why I suspect the battery is because of the fact it wouldn't turn on at all. The power button just stays orange. I could be wrong, of course.

Phone will only power up for 7 seconds total

Had and still have an issue today. While driving earlier yesterday, I was listening to music in my car with phone connected on headphone jack. It made a buzzing noise( that came through car audio) , I disconnected and removed battery. I replaced battery and phone will not turn back on at all, will only show both Samsung logo's then go black screen. The phone will only power up for a total of 7 seconds from initial power up vibration on any combination of buttons,or even using a JIG
which went right into download mode.
- If I plug into power source , phone will just vibrate.
- I removed battery and replace, both Samsung logo's will appear then turn off.
- If I hold volume down + power button and place battery in, it will go into download mode. In this mode I can hit volume down to restart but it will just stay on black screen. Also if I hold these buttons down and do nothing the screen will just go black after a few seconds.
- I can also put into download mode to hook up to ODIN using same method and pressing volume up, but will say downloading then shut off.
- I've tried holding down volume up+down and power and it will not go into recovery.
- Odin with recognize it for a second (say device plugged in) and start to download files then it will say device unplugged after a few seconds
I've been looking at unbricking and unrooting threads with no luck. Any help is appreciated.
I don't know about the buzzing sound, but the rest sounds like a dead battery. Are you sure it's charged or that your charger didn't die on you? I don't believe phones brick after the flash is up and running.

Yes I'm 1000% percent sure its not a dead battery and even had it at AT&T warranty center this morning having them look at it. I was trying my luck even though its out of warranty. This issue is like none I've heard, because of the fact that phone actually powers up and I can get into download mode within those 7 seconds, but will shut off after. I've timed it till it powers off.

Am having this same issue with my girlfriends phone just as of a couple hours ago. It's completely stock and just recently received an OTA update a few days ago, she showed me bragging how she can watch videos and do other things at the same time now knowing how much I want a Note lol, she's had zero issues with it other than the battery getting very hot while charging a week or so ago and seems to be very slightly bulging now that I've looked at it. Out of nowhere today as we're walking through a parking lot and she's carrying it in her hand, not even using it, she says something is wrong with her phone and hands it to me with it vibrating every couple of seconds and not reacting to any buttons. I take the battery out and when we get inside put it back in and without even pressing anything it goes to the Samsung logo, black, animated Samsung logo, then turns off and goes back to vibrating every couple seconds. I look up the button combination for recovery and download mode and all that, I try recovery and it does the same vibrate every couple of seconds but never goes to recovery, and if I take the battery out, hold down volume down, then put the battery in it comes up with the warning about installing ROMs and all that, weather I press volume down or do nothing it stays at that screen for maybe five seconds then turns off and the only way I can get to the download mode is to take the battery out then press volume down. I have the Sprint Samsung Epic 4G and the batteries aren't the same but are very similar, mine is just shorter and 1500mAh, hers is taller and 2500mAh. So for the heck of it I put hers in my phone and hold it enough to where it connects and turn on my phone without issue, it boots up and shows 70% on the battery, I now have it plugged in and charging the battery at the moment with no issues. I put my battery in her phone and held it till it connects and it does the same Samsung logo, goes black, Samsung animated logo, then turns off BUT no vibrating anymore. If I press ANY button though as long as it's being held it vibrates every couple of seconds and if I hold volume down while I connect the battery it goes to Download mode but can't do anything and it turns off after about five seconds same as before, still no recovery access either. Heard that there is a power button issue with this phone and for the heck of it I've wiggled and pressed the power button with no charger or battery connected for around half an hour just to see if I can make it better, but no luck.
Hope to hear a solution to this. I would take the back cover off and clean the power button but I'm not sure if that would void the AT&T insurance, not going to try till I know I can get away with it without them knowing because if I can't fix it it's getting sent off for repairs.
EDIT: And sort of following captemo's suggestion I took a metal box, laid a hoodie over it for a bit of padding, then moderately bounced the phone on its power button side (without letting the power button be pressed/pushed, by letting it hang over the edge of the box) for a minute or so as if thinking the power button was stuck pushed in and I was trying to knock it back out, then put its battery back in and what do you know it turns on fine now. Weirdest way I've ever had to fix a phone, but hey it works now so the girlfriend will be happy.

Sort of is about right, glad you got it going. Many will complain about the button still clicking even though button is actually stuck. Many have cited some very simple sounding instructions for cleaning power button contacts with minimal deconstruction of phone. Using swab and alcohol. Run a search in q&a, sure you will get something.

I tried the button with no resolution. I just went ahead and jumped ship and bought Note 3. Thanks to everyone who tried to help out
