Battery life - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

What settings do you all use to maximize your battery life?

Screen brightness all the way down for starters. That will tremendously help your battery life.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk

0% Screen brightness unless I'm outside and need it, mostly black wallpaper, and only one homescreen with one widget (minimalistic text clock widget). Today has been a light use day, but I'm at 18 hours with an hour and a half screen on time and 46% battery left. Could not be happier, it's easily twice as good as my infuse.
On normal heavy use days I get about 16 hours with 4 hours of screen on time.

Buy juice defender and task full
Sent From My MAGNUM DROID XXLR

Do you guys recommend wifi overnight or staying on LTE?

Get Juice Defender. Just took a screenshot, absolutely no recharging in between. No messing with settings or anything. I just have my settings on aggressive.
I'm at 5hrs 27 min @ 1% screen time.

i only get aprox 4 to 6 hrs of straight use at stock speed
games, few phone calls to test the phone, local video playing, youtube stream, long 2 hours of backup & restore (500+ apps & games)

On heavy use my phone lasted 13 hours off the charger with 6 hours of screen time.

wifi use gets better battery life, if you're not charging during your sleep leave it on wifi.

+1 on juice defender

ondemand in SetCPU and deep sleep for when the screen's off and use Wifi whenever possible to keep it from polling for data connection which is not nearly as strong for me.
Oh and I use Autostarts which is an app that lets you pick and choose which apps to not have run at phone start up and other times. This works better than Juice Defender (imho) because instead of killing processes, some of which just start right back up upon killage, Autostarts prevents the apps from running to begin with and essentially locks them from running other than when you call on them.
That's about it.
Used to have SetCPU set to performance but was getting tired of charging the phab two and sometimes three times a day.

It's 384 min by default. It's a setting you need to adjust yourself with a kernel that will allow you to do it, (like Da_g's, found here.)

5 hour screen time is great, but sucks to put a gorgeous super amoled screen at 1% brightness

I can set that with stock rooted. I kinda feel like it's a bit laggier when coming out of sleep, but that could just be a placebo effect.

How much screen on time did you have? how long has it been since you flashed your current set up?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
sorry forgot that shot....i rooted and flashed on either Sunday or Monday this week.....now i do use bluetooth for work so i'm thinking that kills the battery big time....
That is kind of good battery life considering you got almost four hours of screen on time. If your really worried then you should get one of the 3500 mah batteries. I have this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21589969. This battery gets me through at least a day and a half of heavy usage, and it works great for the price.
yeah i wasn't sure...i always keep reading about people getting 1.5-2 days on a battery...it's a new toy so hopefully when the excitement wears off that screen won't be on so much
That's exactly what will happen. You have new phone syndrome. I did too, when I first got my Galaxy S2. Except that I, unlike you, was running stock unrooted, and my battery life was more like 8 hours. I'm now running stock rooted with Entropy's kernel, plus I don't use my phone as much, and I get between 15 and 20 hours.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
Yeah...with almost 4 hours screen on, and mostly on cell data (assumption based on your 2.x hours of wifi on) that isn't too horrible. Your total awake time is about an hour more than screen on, so assuming you had phone calls, music playing, or some other screen off background task to account for some of that, you're doing pretty good...
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA App
LOL so I'm guessing the best way to really conserve battery is to keep the screen off. Just outta curiousity (which I will test tonight after full charge) what is an acceptable drop rate when phone is fully asleep for say 8 hours or so. Like what 1-2% an hour?

I think the best I have seen reported is 0.5% per hour. Mine on wifi has been as good as about 0.8% per hour, but usually a little over 1%.

2%/hour idle drain I consider bad - that's why I haven't released a kernel since 1/2/2012 - I have a power management regression that pushes drain to a bit over 2%/hour when connected to wifi.
I strive for 0.5%/hour and get very close to that frequently when in a good signal area. In a weak signal area (like at my desk at work), it's around 1%/hour.
4.5%/hour or so is the idle drain you'll get if the phone is unable to enter deep sleep.

Is my Thunderbolt losing battery too quickly?

My rate of battery loss is insane. I can sometimes lose more than 14% an hour while using it. That's with cm7 and the extended/fat battery! Is this normal for heavy use or is there something inherently wrong with my phone.

No bluetooth. Mostly baconreader for reddit. 4g strangely makes no difference. Normally it is off, but I have found that the angle of descent is not impacted by switching. Brightness always sub 40%

My brightness (in a profile) is set to 15% and I run that 24/7 unless I'm outside making a phone call or something to see the screen . . .
Could be the antivirus. Have you tried battery calibration by nema? (In market) I'm running infected and using the same battery (OEM right?) And I get about 5% drain an hour with 4g on and screen on about half the time. Sometimes more or less depending on usage.

I could be wrong, but isnt juicedefender an app constantly running? Have you tested your battery without that app?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA
First off thanks, I now feel better about my battery life. in my opinion battery life depends on a lot of things. Juice defender didn't seem to play well with my phone. I only turn on wifi when I need it. Also I would charge to phone to 100% and reboot into recovery and clear the battery stats. Not sure if any of that would help, but it can't hurt to try.
I've noticed a bit more accurate readings when resetting battery stats, which is why I suggested it.
Otherwise, you could try a complete backup of all your apps and trying a different rom?
My battery lasts about 14 hrs with regular to heavy use. 11 hrs on the fat battery seems like its way too low. Have you rooted and unclocked?
I would unistall juice defender. You can set up the phone just as well without it and have one less app running (which uses battery)
I have an avg of about 12 hrs fully cycle since i bought my phone over a year ago. I have to make sure that all the setting (i.e. GPS off, wifi off, screen turned all the way down) are always correct to push anything past the 12 hr mark.
Your best bet is do like the rest of us and make sure you have a charger always ready if you are ALWAYS using it.

Does this sound right to you? Battery life.

Take a look at these screen shots seems to me the battery life sucks here!!

Ouch, 7% per hour in standby? Mine only drains 1% per hour. Goes up to 3% if the "charge wakelock" issue pops up.
The first long test I ran when using Screen Filter @ 75% I drained to 5% and had 4 hours of screen time. I think my total run time was 15-16 hours.

[Q] Battery Degradation/Battery Life Question

Over the course of the past month I've appeared to have a drastic decrease in battery life. Just wanted some opinions. I've switched between AOKP, Neo-AOKP, and Rage (which I am currently on), and there seems to be little difference (or at least, nothing is making it significantly better). I always do full wipes before installs. All GPS features turned off, brightness around the 30% mark, no task killer, JuiceDefender running on default balanced settings. See screenshots below for additional information. From 100% to the time of these screenshots I've done about 15-20 texts, 2 phone calls that were both less than 60 seconds, 5 times or so on Facebook (just scrolling through feed mostly), and a total of 5-10 minutes on the internet. I guess what I'm wondering is: Is it possible that my battery has somehow degraded over the past month? And, should i be getting better battery life than this? I am on the stock/standard Rezound battery. Thanks!

I used to run juice defender. It doesn't seem to play well with AOSP, causes lots of wakeups. Try uninstalling/disabling and seeing if it helps, particularly overnight. I don't have any proof but my battery seems to be lasting longer without. (About 5.6 pct per hour during the day, 1-2 pct per hour overnight)
Personally, I use setcpu to make profiles for screen on and off. Screen On, I use Intellidemand tho Neo swears by Lazy. For Screen Off, I set max clock speed to 700 ish mhz and put governor on Wheatley. I can say one thing for sure, Wheatley makes the phone deep sleep very well, assuming you don't have a sync issue or frequently updating widget interfering.
Sent from my Rezound using Tapatalk 2
There seems to be a discrepancy between your battery usage monitor and your GSam monitor. Your battery monitor is showing 7 hours plus while the GSam is showing 3 minutes plus since charged.
For the 69% on screen, how long was the screen actually on? Touch the screen percentage to see how long your screen was on. Right now, I am at 13 hours plus with 50% left. My screen is at 65% and has been on 1 hr 53 min. Indoors, I also keep my brightness at 20%.
It seems that some folks have also said they find juice defender to use more battery than it saves. Try uninstalling it and see what happens.
I am using Nils' Business ICS4.0.3, Sense 3.6 ROM and having great battery life with the standard battery.

Snuzzo - it seems, for now, that your recommendation to go with a vanilla CM9 seems to be the trick. I'll have to monitor over the next few days to be sure, but with the same setup i was running on rage, where i would lose about 3-4%/hour with the phone just sitting and going to sleep, i've only lost 1% in the past 2 hours while on your most updated (10/16) build with your 1.5 kernel..
would i be able to run more recent versions of your kernel on you 10/16 build?
I haven't done 1.8 and 1.7 has the minimum frequency voltage fixed plus a couple extras. Don't try running 1.6 as it was very experimental.

[Q] Samsung galaxy s3 battery

Im new to this forum thing so sorry if i do/type something wrong. Anyway, i got my gs3 few months ago, and the battery life lasts a day, when i had iphone 3g it lasted like 3 days without charging, so i wanna know if this is normal with everyone or i have to fix it. Yes its rooted with a costume rom.
How often do you use it? Which CPU governor are you using? Make sure it can deep sleep, because if it doesn't it will drain very quickly.
Deep sleep? First I'm hearing about that. Could I set that myself in the paranoid kangdroid ROM
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Deep sleep is a built-in feature that reduces power consumption when you're not using the phone. There are some applications that will keep your phone awake (known as a a wakelock) even when the phone's screen is off. To find out more, get CPU Spy and Wakelock Detector. The former will show you how long your CPU is in each frequency and deep sleep, if at all. The latter will scan for apps that are keeping your phone awake when it should be sleeping.
How much screen on time and other use does it get?
I get 3-4 hours of screen on time before I charge and that's a typical day for me. The newer and more powerful hardware is going to use more battery in general, too - compared to an older phone with much weaker hardware.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2

Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
If your phone lasts a full day, that's a miracle by today's standards. My S3 i9300 lasts about a full day also, with ~2 hours of screen time at most. Unless you have a Motorola Razr Maxx (3300 mAh battery) or a Note 2, you're probably not going to get over a day of battery life on any phone with anything over minimal usage. Also, don't let your battery die completely; don't go lower than around 20-25%. If you repeatedly do, your battery will overall hold less of a charge.
I suggest also that you turn on Power Saver if you're not gaming. Go into Settings -> Power Saver and disable the screen power savings (it limits the frame rate). This basically keeps the phone from going above 1 GHz (barely noticeable in terms of speed, but big battery savings).
Since you use a custom ROM, try messing with the min/max frequencies of your phone. My Samsung Galaxy SII has pretty good battery life; in this screenshot it's about 2 hours of screen time - 30 minutes of internet data, 30 minutes of music and the rest is miscellaneous gaming, videos, arranging apps etc. Oh yes, and a few phone calls, of course.

Don't expect too much from today's fancy smartphones. They are mostly form over function, and would rather have a slim body and unnecessarily fast internals rather than good battery life.
