Bluetooth? - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

I saw a thread suggesting the nook color had bluetooth capability after you put CM7 on it. Does the nook tablet have bluetooth built in too, and if so, can you use it with CM7?

Nope, we can't use bluetooth. At least not yet. I believe the bluetooth chip is there, but it will take some time until the developers can get it working.

The longer more technical answer is that to get bluetooth working we need a "magic number" that represents a physical connection to the bluetooth chip inside the tablet. This number is unique to the Nook Tablet (not the same on any other device), and without it, the bluetooth functionality can't be initialized. (If you're even more technically inclined, we need a gpio value ".nshutdown" used for the wilink device initialization on the board file).
There may be a way to use the collective power of the internets to find it (ie, get 50 people to search a dozen gpios each until bt initializes), or maybe even create a sysfs interface to reset and reinitialize the device on a single device, but no one has been working on it due to more pressing matters like getting the 3.x kernel to work.

Is the gpio pin something that can be changed by a user and brute forced by members of the boards? Or is it change pin, compile kernel test, and repeat.

So I am running a side loaded Nook Tablet 16GB, GoLauncher intalled and everything working well.
I have been trying to enable bluetooth, but to no avail.
I intalled Elixer2 and Elixer Widgets, went to place a widget on the home screen, selected bluetooth, and get an error which says "No Bluetooth Adapter"
Would this be due to the fact that the tablet has no default bluetooth and needs to be able to communicate with the adapter, which means we need to find the special number to unlock the Texas Instrument 1270B and allow it to speak between antenna and chip?

Look above your post for answer.

Absolutely Amazing

I am not Android dev literate enough to find out how to try out different numbers, but if someone wouldn't mind making and posting a step-by-step guide, I wouldn't mind investing some time and effort to try out different options.
Maybe we could make a thread then where everyone could post ranges of numbers that he would try out?

our tablet has no bluetooth, never will

There is NO Bluetooth hardware in Nook Tablet
We have the same module, WL1270B, as the Kindle Fire.
I took my Nook Tablet apart just to verify if the Nook Tablet have Bluetooth support. Before that, I’ve tried many GPIO values and every time I turned on Bluetooth, the Nook Tablet would just restart. This is the best shot I have of the Nook Tablet wireless module. The text on the module was so small, I could barely read it even at close distant.

After that though, i thought they figured out they could activate bluetooth but only to reach about a meter or so. which could still provide useful for keyboards and gamepads. the Nook color had the same thing and people have definitively used it's bluetooth. Not sure if ive got that right so dont quote me but im pretty sure thats what they conluded.

No BlueTooth They also told me there is no camera on my Nook and my Nook takes great pictures

Good 1. April joke
Great joke with the camera, I guess it is a built in Hasselbladt

Or maybe it thinks the TP is running FB from the legit webOS app
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You don't believe me?
Ever think its because every other platforms FB app has been recently updated..and WebOS has not?
Facebook now requires a GPS connection, hence why almost all mobile FB apps give a rough location now when you post
OK.. Next question.
About that SIM Card slot...
Antenna? SIM Card? SD? Identifier? What IS that?
What exactly is that? Can you take it out? Can you insert something into it? Can you use it in some way?
If not...why would they include it...? It must be useful in some way...
That's odd...
its the sim card slot for the 4g models. on all other models its a dummy with the serial number
and there is NO sim card hardware if you have a dummy slug, teardown confirmed
but it DOES have the pins and chipset to wire one in but that would require a meta-doctor of the 4G doctor for drivers (webOS), but then CM7 would not work
Would have loved to have had an SD slot.
that would have been nice for the 16GB users, but im sure there will be a much easier method for OTG with a flash drive/sd card reader in the near future

Read this http://www.precentral.net/how-webos-facebook-app-made-jobs-yell-zuckerberg to understand why facebook for webos isn't as consistant as official facebook app interfaces.
Regarding the via mobile message, like others said, it was updated for ios and android devices. It still says Blackberry, Windows Phone, etc for other platforms.
You can put your conspiracy theory to rest.
Okay.
Is anyone getting that Wifi and Sound problem from time to time?
Every now and then, the sound will become rattly. It just happens.
And every now and then, the WiFi will just stop working. And you have to reset it.
It's happening increasingly often..is it just me?
Noticing the WiFi issue for sure. Never happened before 3.4.
Um, in Android. What's with Facebook not working?
I see people with the icon on their homescreens. But... Why if it doesn't work.
It shuts down repeatedly.
I never really looked into this issue since I browse the facebook website rather than using the app but I did skim over this issue. I believe it crashes because it's trying to pull your location and the touchpad has no GPS. Solution is to fake it. I think there's a fake gps app on the market to fix this.
As to why people have the facebook app. 2 functions. Contact syncing and ability to share photos via facebook app.

What is the cause of the HP TouchPad's bulkiness? If you tap the back of your TouchPad with your fingernails, it sounds hallow- do you think they'd be able to issue out new backings that would make the TouchPad half as thick?
Another thing is, you can scroll through card view left and right, but why not up and down?
Ever notice in webOS, when you're interacting with card view and you tap to bring the card up and it's blurry for a moment- why does that happen?
Odd...

[Q] How is the GS2 identified by bluetooth?

I have a Ford Sync navigation setup in my truck. My truck has the ability to pair with several phones and then you can choose which one is a favorite or main phone and it will automatically connect to that one every time it 'sees' it. Or if that phone is not available you can manually select one of the other previously paired phones. Currently i have my I-777, a T-989, and an iPhone 5 paired on the Ford Sync.
Being a frequenter of this website for many years I obviously can't leave well enough alone and I flash various roms on my GS2 whenever I feel the need for change. Currently I am running the latest AOKP task650 update as my main rom and then with Siyah kernel 5.01 I run a dual boot and also have Jellybam as rom #2. They both run great as I have them setup and I have no complaints about the kernel or the roms.
My question here is this: How is the GS2 identified by a Bluetooth device when it is pairing? And is there a way to change this identification?
My reason and other thoughts behind this question: Being as I cant leave well enough alone with the roms I frequently change roms or boot to the second rom. When i do this the Bluetooth pairing to the Sync is gone and it needs to be re-paired. The old pairing is still there on the Sync and when I re-pair the GS2 it replaces the old pairing. This in turn wipes out all the saved favorites because the Sync assumes its a new phone.
I have tried naming the GS2 the same name such as I-777 and also a different name such as AOKP or I-777x2 and in both cases the the phone must be re-paired, the old pairing and name is replaced by the new name and pairing, and all the saved data is gone.
The T-989 and iPhone pairings don't get replaced, only the previous pairings of the GS2 regardless if I rename it or not.
I seem to remember that my Captivate could be stored on the Sync as several different pairings and names, why would the GS2 be different? Could it be that the Captivate multiple pairings were from back when we would have to fix our android IDs after each flash? And if I flashed a new ID for each rom I could have my multiple bluetooth profiles saved?
I even want to say at one point I did have two different GS2 pairings on the Sync. I think one may have been RockRatts Cobra rom and then maybe ShoStock? perhaps one was a GB rom and one was an ICS rom at the time? Would that make a difference?
Or is it something like a MAC address and the name change under bluetooth settings is just for user convenience but the Sync always sees the digital bluetooth identifier?
I looked around on the web and couldn't find a clear answer to my question and after reading through some more searches on XDA that came close but didn't answer my question i thought i would post it as I know someone here has the answer already.
Ok, to reply to my own thread, yes each phone has a unique Bluetooth MAC address that can be spoofed or changed.
Interestingly some of the moderators shut down threads about it while others don't. I can't decide yet from the threads I have read in the last 2 hours if its something I can easily change to run permanently different in rom 1 vs. rom 2. Or even if I can run a script to change it based on the rom I am currently on so the Sync sees a different MAC for each rom.
Interesting reading though, Google knows everything once you figure out what keywords to use.

[Q] Methods for streaming video from my PC remotely?

Many of the suggestions I've ran across so far were for local wifi streaming. Im looking to be able to watch something stored on my pc with my N4 away from home via mobile network. I have an unthrottled data plan, so nothing is overkill.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Ok I figured it out, and feel silly that it was under my nose this whole time. I hate when people figure out a problem without sharing the solution so I'll share for anybody with the same question in the future.
1. Download the Plex server (Plex for connected TVs and streaming devices): https://www.plex.tv/downloads
2. Invest $4.99 (well worth it) into the Plex app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexapp.android
3. Setup the Plex server on your computer and enable the myPlex server. (see attachment)
Your app should discover your computer as if you're connected on the same network.

I never implied that you weren't going to share it, so my apologies if my wording seemed directed at you. My "not sharing" comment was directed to people that fix a problem they have without sharing a solution after the fact. By all means, I'd love to hear your method!
Other methods I ran across were a bit wonky. Plex offers the ability to change the bitrate of the videos I'm streaming, which was a major plus for me. The five bucks was well worth it. (having a gift card balance left over didn't hurt either.)

Garmin Fenix / Tactix GPS BLE ABC Watch is Great …No Android Support Any Suggestions?

Given how much has been modded/hackable in the past does it seem likely the Garmin Fenix GPS watch with BLE will be made to communicate and allow notifications from Android phone? The Fenix currently pairs and is compatible with the iPhone. Garmin's position is (paraphrasing) there are too many versions/models of Android. On the later model Android phones is an app all that is needed?

A Time to Speculate and Opinionate
Not looking for a solution as much as attempting to tap into the fast reserve of knowledge and wisdom the internet has created in the unification of us mere mortals to glimpse the future based on past accomplishments (0_0). Seriously, it does seem a bit odd that a watch as powerful and popular as it seems to be has not been whipped into shape and brought to it full potential like displaying Android phone notifications making use of a loud alarm and a great vibration motor.
http://youtu.be/EC5-cEbr520
the real problem il BLE!
apple use it from iphone 4s, so garmin develop it....android start to use it not many time ago, our model is one of the first...of course garmin develop with the first one!
please post on garmin forum...and hope anyone see our post...
<UP>
add my experience: i try with a lot of apps (B-BLE, BLE explorer, nRF toolbox) all find devices, but any one can comunicate with this.
there's a way for send notification via bluetooh? in iphone there's a special section for notification, in android where is it?
What is Happening
Are you using a Nexus 4?
I am thinking the BLE support for N4 which is what I am using has not come out yet. That kinda blows because is a Google phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979207
I will keep looking but have found very little info so far.
On a side note: for the first time my watch turned its self off because of low battery. The odd thing is I don;t think it was that low, I could be wrong.
Yes, i'm N4 user and happy Fenix user...i wanna more happy: i want notification!
I try on garmin forum, on twitter, on facebook and vere but now all stop with no solution.

i try but i can't connect with my Fenix...
maybe with another app for this type of watch...
I'd happily pay money for an app that allows for this. I hate not being able to use my fenix for notifications.

I have Fenix (4.05) and Galaxy Note 1 smartPhone. The solution I found (to have notifications on my Fenix) was to upgrade my Nexus 7 7" android tablet to an iPad mini 2 (wiFi only version) . Now I feed/share my 3G internet conection from the N1 via BT3.0 tethering to the iPad, wich in turn now has/runs my Hangouts + WeChat + gMail sessions, with in turn it notifies (via BTLE) the F4.05.
I never upgraded the N1 to N2 (because didnt made sense to downgrade to a bigger screen with lower resolution), and recently skipped to upgrade to N3 too because of the irritating "region lock" Samsungs now decided to impose even on it's "unlocked" EU models.
So I find myself in a path from being a full double Android customer (SmartPhone and Tablet) and developer, To a mixed Android/iOS Smartphone/Tablet user, to, most probably, a tripple iOS customer (iWatch/iPhone6/iPad mini 2).
I simply got tired of the Galaxy imposed useless bloatware, the new "Region lock" restrictions, the Andoid platform fragmentation and slow update software cycle (my N1 just got to 4.1 a week ago, still miles away from the minimum 4.3+ required for BTLE)
With new 4.40 firmware, i connect fenix with my LG G2 with no problems, now it seems closer but still no app for communication, even when im connected i cant use it.

Virtual Windows on Yoga Book Android

Hi guys,
as I'm reading since a couple of weeks that many of you woul'd like to have Android and Windows running on their Yoga Books I'd like to share how I was able to do so.
Basically I've just purchased the Yoga Book to try this way in order to evaluate whether I still need my Windows Laptop or not. Answer: I do not need it anymore
At "Paperspace" it's possible to create a virtual windows desktop PC which you can access via chrome browser.
There you have the option to create either an already licensed Windows Server which will be used in desktop mode or you can bring your own Windows 10 pro license to use a regular desktop version (which I did).

After this decision you can either rent this virtual Windows machine on a monthly or hourly rate. I chose the hourly rate as I just use my Windows account for programs like tax or "just" windows based tools. But most of the time I can live with Android for surfing, entertainment and similar.
As soon as you finished those steps you can just run your machine from any device on your Chrome browser (works with smartphone and tablet and of course on other Windows machines).
You can see a almost transparent circle in the upper right area where you have a menu to swith to fullscreen and to other advanced settings (e.g. gaming mode,...).
The difference from paperspace to other services like AWS from Amazon or similar is the fact that you won't start a remote desktop session but a video feed. Therefore you can achive way better frame rates and can also play games and watch Netflx for example (for me pretty good as I'm living in Germany and with this alternative I do not need a VPN anymore in order to get the US content).
I've also installed my Office 365 on the Virtual Machine and it works perfect. So as you can see you'll have a fully functional Windows running on a Android device in your browser.
There is only one negative fact which I do not want to hide. As Windows is running as a video feed the touch support is not possible (yet). To bypass this issue I've ordered a bluetooth mouse which will then enables the mouse cursor in windows and makes it fully usable. It's not a big issue (at least for me) as I'll just use windows for special programms or tools where I anyway want to control it via mouse instead of touching on the display.
Here the mouse I'm using which I've purchased at Amazon for 25€: Microsoft Designer Mouse
If you have something what I should test for you or if you've any questions just ask.
As I was searching several month/years for such a solution I thought its worth sharing with you.
Note: It does not work with iPads (tried it with my mini before I bought the Yoga Book) due to the fact that iOS does not support mouse cursors "unjailbreaked".
I gave this a try today, and I am not thrilled.
I first tried it on my Chromebook and it worked well.
Although the load time is kind of long.
When I got home from work I tried logging in from my Yoga book (android) and It was not a good experience.
full screen did not work well for me as it kept cutting off the bottom of the screen.
The touch pad does work well, and when I tried a bluetooth mouse it worked better, but no right click.
I think it would work better if there was an android app instead of using chrome.
Also the mouse/ touchpad options on the Yoga book android sucks. the Stock mouse handeling is way better, and I would love to get that fixed.
Right click must depend on the mouse cause at mine it's working.
Loading time for booting takes ~30sec and also at my yoga book there isn't something cut off in Fullscreen mode.
Hi,
I have spent a lot of time searching about that topic, I have some difficulty with the word & PowerPoint products quality and I want to do more with photo editing?
want to thank you alot ?
Q// Someone say that there is issues with the sound, true??
Q// How can I do that for my android Lenovo??
